| | Game 59: Blackhawks 2, Avalanche 1 | | 2008-02-18 08:23:39 | | Okay, we get it, you won. Knock it off already. Sad. That's all I have to say about the Avalanche. If you want a full recap, check out the AP or ITCS. I can't bring myself to do one of my own. UPDATE: Dater's recap at the Post is pretty good, and addresses what most of us here have already noticed before about the Avs' defense. Skrastins, this time, fully withstanding: "We didn't handle the puck a lot." When they did, Quenneville said, "we made some direct passes from our stick to their stick, with not a lot of pressure." Quenneville was probably thinking of Karlis Skrastins' umpteenth giveaway of the kind he made Sunday on the game-winning goal. Skrastins had the puck with time during a Blackhawks flurry, but instead of a safe clearout or pass to a teammate, he put it right back to the Blackhawks at the point. A few seconds later, the puck was behind Avs goalie Jose Theodore, after Martin Havlat shot it into the right side of the net to make i | | By: Mile High Hockey | | |
| | Kane paying big dividends with Blackhawks | | 2007-11-26 02:47:44 | | Some players might gripe after ending a six-game road trip with a 2-0 loss in Vancouver on November 25 and being held off the scoresheet for the fourth straight time. But not Patrick Kane.
“I think we had a good trip, and you’ve got to be happy with the way we played,” the 19-year-old Chicago rookie [...] | | By: Hockey Adventure | | |

| Blackhawks GM looking to make moves | | 2007-08-01 22:42:41 | | Chicago Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon tells Tim Sassone of the Chicago Daily Herald that he is still very much interested in making some adjustments to his roster.

With approximately $7 million left to spend under the salary cap, the Blackhawks could make some significant additions, although Tallon may only want to tinker with his roster.
Either way, Tallon admits that he is looking to bring in some “more grit at wing and on defense” before training camps begins in September.
Nothing is imminent, however. Far from it. Tallon expects it will get busier as camps open.
“It’s pretty quiet now, and it should stay that way for a while,” Tallon said.

| | Blackhawks going after blueline depth, not Roenick | | 2007-07-19 15:44:37 | | Chris Kuc of The Chicago Tribune reports that the Chicago Blackhawks are actively working the phones in the hopes of making a deal.

Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon notes that although a deal is not imminent, he is very much interested in acquiring a “veteran defenseman.”
One player that does not seam to be on the Blackhawks’ radar is one of their former stars, Jeremy Roenick. Tallon told Kuc that he has “no interest” in bringing the talkative forward back to the Blackhawks.
While rumors persisted the Roenick would call it a career sometime during the off-season, it appears that he may be having second thoughts. According to recent reports, Roenick is considering all his options. The veteran forward is said to have contacted the Toronto Maple Leafs for a job.

| | Samsonov traded to Blackhawks | | 2007-06-16 19:43:52 | | TSN is reporting that the Montreal Canadiens have traded struggling forward Sergei Samsonov to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Canadiens GM Bob Gainey admitted on Friday that he did not see Samsonov as part of the team’s future, so he had to make a move.
“Considering we didn’t have plans for Sergei Samsonov in our organization for next season, our options were either to buy out his contact or to trade him in order to allow us to save valuable cap room over the next two seasons,” Gainey said in a release.
Going to Montreal are defenseman Jassen Cullimore and forward Tony Salmelainen.
In Chicago, it’s expected that Samsonov will get all the opportunity to regain his form.
“We believe Sergei can rebound and give us a spark on the power play and offensively as well as improve our overall skill level,” Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon said in a release.

| | Blackhawks and Ducks throw down the gloves | | 2007-03-18 02:28:00 | | Friday night was a wild night for the Blackhawks and Ducks that is. They brought back some old-time hockey with four hockey fights in the game. The first fight was between heavyweights David Koci and George Parros. They both exchange right hands and grapple and then go down to the ice together. I give that one a draw as neither guy looked to land a solid punch. Later in the game Tuomo Ruutu looked to high-stick Andy McDonald, so Chris Kunitz dropped his gloves, grabbed Ruutu and started throwing punches at him. Ruutu turtled as Kunitz threw punches and didn't really hurt Ruutu at all. Later, Ryan Getzlaf and Danny Richmond dropped the gloves but it was all Getzlaf as Richmond waited to throw a punch and then he lost his balance and went down. Decision to Getzlaf in that fight. Then later in the game, something that hasn't happened in a while happened. On the faceoff, before the puck was dropped, David Koci and Sean O'Donnell had some words and gave each other pushes and sticks, and | | By: NHL Hockey Fights | | |
