Super Bowl MVP apparently does not equal respect
    2008-07-16 06:00:06
Here we go again with the lack of respect for Eli Manning! The Sporting News is out with its rankings of the top 25 quarterbacks in the NFL. Eli is ranked 12th, and looking at the list just makes me shake my head. Without even looking, I'm sure you can guess that Tony Romo is ranked ahead of Eli. If you guessed that, you'd be right. Romo is No. 7 on this list. Romo being ranked ahead of Eli doesn't bug me as much as you might think. I'm getting used to the supposed "experts" being fooled by Romo's numbers and his celebrity status, and forgetting the bottom line -- which is that Eli has gotten the job done when it counts and playboy Romo hasn't. It's several of the other names ahead of Eli that really have me ticked off. Brett Favre at No. 8. Sorry, but how can Favre even be on this list? Technically, he's not even in the league. Even if he was, or is, or will be again sometime soon, he's not the Favre of his glory days. Will he play like he did last season (66.5% completions, 28 TDs

    world’s smallest ramen bowl
    2008-05-29 16:02:02
So we all know what a big bowl of ramen looks like. What about a microscopic bowl? An engineering professor and his students at the University of Tokyo have created the world’s smallest bowl of ramen, complete with (unedible) “noodles” that are only 1/12,5000th of an inch long and 1/1.25 millionth of an inch thick. Compare that with a human hair, which is on average, only 4/1000th of an inch thick. The ramen bowl was created “for fun” using carbon nanotubes, which are microscopic tube shaped pieces of carbon. No word on what kind of soup base was used, and unfortunately, it doesn’t come with any toppings or chashu. As soon as we come across a nice microscopic plate of gyoza to go along with the ramen, you’ll be the first to know! Thanks to tamade38 for the heads up! Share This Tags: ramen news

IRS Spending As Much on Publicizing and Processing Stimulus Rebate Checks as Was Spent on Super Bowl Ads: $200 Million
    2008-03-28 00:00:00
"Dear Taxpayer," it starts off. "We are pleased to inform you that the United States Congress passed and President George W. Bush signed into law the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, which provides for economic stimulus payments to be made to over 130 million American households. Under this new law, you may be entitled to a payment of up to $600 ($1,200 if filing a joint return), plus additional amounts for each qualifying child." You might have received this junk-mail-esque notice in the mail the other day. You probably did, in fact, because the IRS spent $42 million mailing them: essentially taxpayer-funded campaign ads for incumbent politicians. And that $42 million is just to mail notices that the checks will be mailed in a few months, not the rebate checks themselves. The notice doesn't even tell you how much you'll be getting or when it will be mailed, making it less informative than these Tax Foundation blog posts. It turns out the IRS was just getting wa

The Rodney Dangerfield of Super Bowl champs
    2008-03-26 07:41:13
In a diary entry Tuesday, 'SBaker' points out that Yahoo! Sports did not show your defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants much respect in its first set of 2008 pre-season rankings. Yahoo's Charles Robinson (who is he, anyway?) has the Giants ranked seventh -- with Indianapolis, New England, Dallas, San Diego, Jacksonsville and Cleveland (you freakin' have to be kidding me) ranked above New York. Umm, Mr. Robinson, can I please get some of whatever you have been smoking? Are you serious, with Dallas, San Diego, Jacksonville and Cleveland (Cleveland, for chrissakes!) ahead of the Super Bowl champs? Here is what this yahoo said about the Giants. Giants fans seem to think last season's Super Bowl win translates into automatic success in 2008. But the division is still brutal, and some players tend to slack off the year after getting a ring. Don't be surprised if turmoil returns again with a slow start. Ahh, Mr. Robinson, what Giants fans have you been talking to? And

This is a 1 minute clip against Florida DE Derrick Harvey, a potential 1st round selection in this year's draft as well. Long is the LT in all the plays. He gets blown up in the first play and does a nice job the rest of the way.

    Some interesting Super Bowl reading
    2008-02-15 08:24:16
I came across a couple of very interesting articles on Super Bowl XLII heroes David Tyree and Justin Tuck yesterday. First Tyree. His amazing over the shoulder against the helmet catch on the game-winning drive hasn't got a fancy name like Dwight Clark's 1981 'Catch.' But, if you ask Clark, that doesn't make it any less spectacular. "I was there to see it," Clark said of Tyree's 32-yard catch on the game-winning drive. "I thought it was spectacular when I saw it live, but when I caught it on replay it was one of the most unbelievable things I've ever witnessed. To hold the ball like that when he was hit by the defender, and then to have the strength to hold it against his helmet and reach out with his other hand to make sure the ball never hit the ground ... it has to be the greatest catch ever made. Definitely one of the top two or three." Clark also knows that Tyree's catch has changed his life forever, just as the 1981 catch of a Joe Montana pass changed his. "The Gi

    Peterson Wins Pro Bowl MVP
    2008-02-11 11:28:00
Adrian Peterson of the Vikings capped off a truly amazing rookie season by leading the NFC to a 42-30 win in an entertaining Pro Bowl on Sunday in Honolulu.Peterson rushed for 129 yards and scored two touchdowns in the second half to lead the NFC to a comeback victory. Peterson posed with the new car he won as Pro Bowl MVP at midfield after the game. He said his goal for the game was "to win the game and become MVP."Mission accomplished. It was a really spectacular way to finish off one of the best rookie seasons any running back has ever had in NFL history. Peterson set the rushing record against the San Diego Chargers with 296 yards, and became the first back ever to have two 200 yard rushing games in the same season. Now he became the second rookie ever to win the Pro Bowl MVP, joining Marshall Faulk, who did it in 1995.Broncos safety John Lynch may have said it best about Adrian Peterson and the day he had on Sunday: "He's going to wreak havoc in this league for a long time."I sure

Fox Super Bowl Ratings...THROUGH THE ROOF! To The Delight Of The Fox Network

Hello again on this Tuesday very wet morning. Nope, no snow...but I'm sure those two expected snowstorms (expected by me!) before the strength of the sun overpowers everything WILL happen. Mark my words! I just saw this WPRI dot com article about the "through the roof' ratings for the Super Bowl. Take a peek... "The New York Giants win over the New England Patriots was the most-watched Super Bowl ever, with 97.5 million viewers.Nielsen Media Research says the game eclipsed the previous record of 94.08 million, set when Dallas faced Pittsburgh in 1996.More people watched Sunday night's game than all but one American television broadcast ever-the "M-A-S-H" finale in 1983, which was seen by 106 million viewers. The game had almost all the ingredients Fox could have hoped for: a tight contest with an exciting finish involving a team that tried and failed to make history as the NFL's first unbeaten team since 1972."Peter here. Super Bowl Commercial
    2008-02-04 14:09:16
I had to post one of my favorites. Being a mother of 3 kids means that I have a few back seat drivers. Every time there is a squirrel on the road and it looks as if I am going to hit it...the squirrel seems to get out of the way. Makes me happy that I did not add to the road kill numbers! My kids always ask me, "Mom did you hit it? Did it get out of the way?" So when I saw this commercial I laughed so hard it brought tears to my eyes and my belly ached! Here is the link to the commercial...I hope you find it as entertaining as I did! It is titled "SCREAM" Since I am still pretty new at this blog thing I have to put a link for your viewing pleasure. We have been hearing it and for people who watched the Super Bowl, a lot were really disappointed. The excitement was generated and even the die-hard fans sacrificed some sleep due to the big event. But as it turned out, it seems like the Super Bowl was only pure excitement. The outcome was not as [...]

Giants SHOCK Patriots And Win Super Bowl
    2008-02-04 05:19:00
The New York Giants are the World Champions after they beat the previously undefeated New England Patriots by a score of 17-14. The Giant's defensive coordinator outcoached defensive specialist Bill Belichick, using a vast array of blitzes to keep the pressure on Tom Brady and his offensive line as they held the record-setting Patriots' offense to a mere two touchdowns. The fourth quarter started with a 7-3 score, but MVP Eli Manning twice marched his team down the field for touchdowns, and the Patriots could not retaliate. In one remarkable play, Manning thrice avoided being tackled, which would have spelled doom for the Giants and an undefeated season for New England. Somehow, someway he emerged from the pack of would-be tacklers and connected to Plaxico Burress. That was a miracle play, and I must congratulate the New York Giants, their coaches and their fans. Wow, what a great game! And the fourth quarter was one for the ages. Finally, a Super Bowl that was better than the commerci

Super Bowl XLII: A Tale Of A Sore Loser
    2008-02-04 00:54:00
It doesn't seem to matter what area of endeavor a person falls into. It doesn't matter if your male or female. Be you black, white, asian, whathaveyou, you have a roll to play. Play it you should, and you should play it with good sportsmanship and upstanding conduct. EVEN IF, you happen to lose. But we don't see things that way anymore in America it seems. More often than not, turned up noses prevail. Backs get turned, names get tossed, and tantrums (oh boy, the tantrums) get thrown. Makes me wanna start carrying around a huge box of diapers to toss to those whom have chosen "the path."We saw it during the 2000 election, when Al Gore got beat down for the presidency. Re-count, and re-count, and re-count some more. We've seen it on T.V., when Rosie O' got beat down on "The View" by Elizabeth. Rosie walked out on her contract. But nothing, dare I say EVER, will out due todays biggest show of spoiled sportsmanship. Todays (Feb. 3, 2008) Superbowl XLII game will hold title to the "Sore Loser

ACC & SEC Presence in Super Bowl
    2008-02-03 16:37:15
espn.comIt should not a be a surprise that the BCS Champion LSU Tigers have the most players of any school in the country playing in the Super Bowl. The team who has the most overall players in the NFL, Miami, has the second most. If they don't have any allegiance to begin with, Georgia fans will probably be rooting for New England - where Richard Seymour, Ben Watson play while Georgia Tech fans will be rooting for New York where James Butler, Gerris Wilkinson, and Michael Matthews will be playing.LSU - 5Miami - 4Tennessee - 4Georgia - 3Georgia Tech -3Auburn -2Florida - 2Boston College - 2Biggest surprise on the list was Marshall with 4 participants.

Super Bowl Sunday February 3, 2008...And A Super Pick
    2008-02-03 04:58:00
Good morning on this Super Bowl Sunday. The kickoff of the game is scheduled for 6:18PM EST, and I can't wait. This yearly extravaganza marks the end of the football mindset of American sports fans and the beginning of baseball hopes and dreams for all. Being a Red Sox fan, 2008 promises to be a year filled with surprises and realistic hope, for the Boston Red Sox are indeed the favorites to take it all home yet again. Wouldn't that be nice! But today, if only for a post or two, my thoughts are centered on the big game between the surprising New York Giants and the unblemished and undefeated New England Patriots. If the Pats win, they would finish the season undefeated, with a 19-0 record. Nobody will surpass that mark. EVER. The Brady injury, if it WAS an injury, will not affect the outcome of the game. Not one whit. But if the Giant's Plaxico Burress, said to have ankle and knee woes, is in any way hampered by his injuries, New York would be in trouble. BIG TROUBLE. I think the Giant

Super Bowl Sunday Day Trip Southern California
    2008-02-01 08:21:00
This Sunday most people will be staying at home or heading to a Super Bowl party which leaves the roads and highways wide open. If you are not a football fan Super Bowl Sunday is just about the best day of the year to head out on a day trip. Last year we went to see the USS Midway Aircraft Museum in San Diego. The drive from Orange County to San Diego can take up to three hours on a normal day. We made the trip down to the museum in under one and a half hours. The freeway was wide open and average speed 80 miles an hour. Parking was a breeze and thier was no waiting for a bay front table at Anthony's Fish Grotto for lunch. For a desert day trip a good bet is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway >. If you decide to go be sure to bring warm clothing there is plenty of snow on top of the San Jacinto mountains this time of the year. North of Los Angeles a trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo should be possible with minimal traffic. If you can drag your partner away from the the TV Super Bowl Sunday

YouTube Tuesday: Super Bowl Media Day
    2008-01-29 19:01:00
Super Bowl Media Day is a big-time joke. An American Idol winner is asking people about their journalistic credentials. A reporter dressed in a wedding dress was asking players, such as Tom Brady and Deion Sanders, if they would marry her. This is becoming an embarrassment if you ask me.

Frank Misaege gives us a 49er twist to the game as he is a San Francisco 49er NFL Team Columnist and senior writer at NFL Draft Dog.com. The 49er Coaching staff coached the South team, who won the game 17-16 in dramatic fashion after a late fourth quarter drive.Well, it turned out to be a very interesting game in the 2nd half...gotta love Coach Mike Martz' call to end the game. I thought it was pretty cool of Ainge to Praise Martz over and over after the game...which made me think, if he can do that much in five days with these college players, just think what he can do with Shaun Hill and Alex Smith between now and Sept. Anyway, it gave me a good feeling just seeing him on the sidelines calling plays. As for the guys who got my attention during the game, here they are and my observations:- QB John David Booty. I still don't understand why he's not ranked higher among the QB's...all the guy's done is win. I thought he was the North squad's best QB...he makes plays, is smart, and t

    Super Bowl XLII
    2008-01-19 18:52:00
This blog post is simply stating that I am going on record as predicting the New England Patriots over the Green Bay Packers in a close game, highlighted by a classic shootout between Brett Favre and Tom Brady. This will provide Brett Favre and his young teammates the necessary motivation to return to the Super Bowl next year and come away victoriously allowing Brett to retire on top. This will cap off the Patriots record shattering perfect season in the grandest of fashions.I predicted the Patriots would win the Super Bowl this year the second I first caught wind of the Randy Moss draft day trade and never looked back. I didn't choose the Packers as my NFC representative until week 8 or 9 and even then had my doubts about if they could beat the Cowboys but that doubt was settled after the two teams met and the Packers were able to keep the game close despite cornerback Charles Woodson and defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila sitting the game out injured as well as Brett Favre being k
