Hundreds of Young Penguins Found Dead in Brazil
    2008-07-21 10:46:00
Every year, Brazil airlifts dozens of penguins back to Patagonia or Antarctica. On last Friday, rescuers and penguin experts have reported that hundreds of young penguins swept from the icy shores of Patagonia and Antarctica are washing up dead on Rio de Janeiro's tropical beaches, Brazil. Rescuers and those who treat penguins are divided over the possible causes. According to Eduardo Pimenta,

    Bureaucracy In Brazil
    2008-07-18 12:58:00
We are in the process of renewing our drivers licenses, and the bureaucracy here in Brazil is amazing. Any government process here in Brazil is very complicated, even for Brazilians, and it is even more so for "estrangeiros" (foreigners). In the US it takes one trip to the license bureau, maybe 30-60 minutes, and a small fee. Unfortunately the process here is not as simple and is much more expensive (about US $140 each). We needed to visit the tranportation department 5 times before we were done with the initial process, because they are not very helpful and they do not seem to know much. Here are some of the other things we needed to get or do: go to a couple of places to get several government documents; go to a special place for"authenticated" copies of other documents; go to a photographer to get small photos of each of us; go to a specific bank to pay the government fee for license renewal; go to a government approved doctor to get an eye test and physical exam. Until now we have

    Our Vacation Trip To Brazil

By: Aoureliou TelevkoTo be honest with you, before going to Ceara, Brazil, my husband and I did not know what to expect there. We were conscious that it could be both, unbelievably good or bad. To our surprise, what we discovered for ourselves was a very pleasant weather, lots of sun, and superb beaches. All of the above make Ceara one of the main tourist destinations of Northeast in Brazil. It is located right below the line of the Equator, and has 573 km of coast along the Atlantic Ocean. The sea breeze softens the temperature, making the air to be about between 23C at night and 30C during the day all year around, and has a typical tropical climate.Based on some dates and historians, Spanish expeditions arrived in Ceara in 1500, at Ponta Grossa Cape, but for some reasons the discovery was never officially recorded. Ceara's occupation began in 1603 with Pero Coelho de Sousa's expedition. In 1649, the Dutchman Matthias Beck built fort Schoonenborch, that some years later would be calle

Life In Sao Caetano / Sao Paulo, Brazil
    2008-05-20 16:08:00
When most Americans think of Brazil, they think of the Amazon, jungles & rain forests, Rio de Janeiro, and Carnival... Life in a 3rd world country... And there are supposed to be monkeys and other animals running around in the streets. This is what most of America sees on TV about Brazil. Life here in Sao Caetano/ Sao Paulo is vastly different than the perception most Americans have. Our city, Sao Caetano do Sul, is located next to the city of Sao Paulo. Both are fairly modern cities, and life here is not a "3rd world country" type of life. We have excellent health care here (praise God), and we have modern conveniences like cable tv (we even have ESPN Brasil), cell phones, wireless internet,... we have many pizzarias and good restaurants. There are many small specialty stores, and also some supermarkets like Extra (Brazilian) and Carrefour (French). There are many strange and different things, and also there are some familiar things like McDonalds, Sam's Club & Wal-Mart (althou

Brazil Is Very Open To The Gospel
    2008-05-08 16:51:00
It is amazing to see how open Brazilians are to the Gospel. God has truly prepared a great harvest here in Brazil, and we are privileged to be a part of this great work of God. We are always excited about seeing God touch and save so many people, and we are happy about how open Brazilians are to the Gospel, but at the same time we are somewhat sad. When you see such wonderful people that are very open to the Gospel, you cannot help but think about how different it is in the US. The difference is incredible. How can a nation founded by Christians and long considered a Christian nation be so closed to hearing about Jesus ? Why do so many people have hard hearts towards the things of God ? Why are many other nations and people groups in the world far more open to the Gospel ? You hear about God doing awesome things in other parts of the world, and touching & saving great numbers of people in many places other than the US. Why is it like this ?I definitely do not have all of the answers

    Brazil's homeless and landless unite
    2008-04-26 10:50:01
Homeless is a word we know all too well here in the U.S. But landless? Do people have a right to land? Seems to fly in the face of our deep-seated belief in the right to private property.Brazil's Landless Workers Movement, or Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Terra, is the largest social movement in Latin America. The MST interprets the Brazilian Constitution as allowing for the occupation and expropriation of unproductive land. Sometimes the Brazilian court agrees with MST and sometimes it doesn't. MST members occupy the land and begin subsistence farming.Recently the MST has been working with the Movement of the Roofless -- Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Teto-- which has been organizing takeovers of abandoned buildings in cities like San Paulo. One building in the city, Prestes Maia, has been occupied since 2002. Conditions are poor but, say residents, better than living in a cardboard box on the street. Brazil Has Great Beaches
    2008-04-25 12:33:00
We live in Sao Paulo and we are only 1 to 1-1/2 hour from the ocean, depending on where you go. When we get the chance we like to go to the beach to relax for the day, especially after a long & busy week. There are many beaches to choose from that are close in Praia Grande, Santos, Guaruja, Bertioga, Riviera,... We especially like Enseada Beach in Guaruja and Riviera Beach. Because it is tropical weather here, you can go to the beach a good part of the year. Most people say that the best beaches in Brazil are in the northeast part of the country, and we hope to travel there sometime in the future. Here are some beach pictures to enjoy.

Triciclo Pompéo - ethanol powered three-wheeler made for Brazil
    2008-03-25 15:30:25
Click on the image above for more shots of the PompéoThere are plenty of people who would love to have the fuel mileage of a 250cc motorcycle, but choose not to ride one because of the inherent safety problems and the lack of weather protection. Brazilian company Triciclo thinks that they have the answer to this issue, and it's called the Pompéo. Using a small motorcycle engine which is capable of running on either gasoline or ethanol (important for the Brazilian market), the Pompéo is said to have decent performance due to its low weight. Also important is the fact that the machine - which looks kind of like the front half of a car - is fully enclosed, meaning that the occupants will stay dry no matter what the weather outside. Seat belts provide a measure of safety lacking from the typical motorcycle, although in some countries it will be classed as such regardless. Finally, the cost is said to be in-line with a 400cc motorcycle, meaning the Pompéo should be quite

    2008-01-09 22:40:00
i know this is an old post but this is important. Orkut has offered mobile orkuting a year back but when will it give its Second largest user base which is India this feature of accessing orkut through mobile. Many people are waiting orkut to contact to any big player in market such as airtel, reliance, tata, vodaphone but lets see when it will be available. Hopefully it should come soon. One year Ago , Official Orkut Blog posted that,While orkut users love having an online social network, we understand that a good deal of your social life happens offline. We wanted orkut to enrich the offline social life of its members, so we thought we could either give you computers with really long cords or we could bring orkut to the device you carry around in your pocket: the mobile phone. Thus the idea for an orkut SMS service was born. With orkut's new SMS feature, you can scrap your friends, look up their contact information and receive scrap notifications. Now you can send scraps from the bus, bar or bathroom, and your friends can get notified of those scraps when on bicycle, beach or bed. Along with the standard orkut features, we've included a few hidden goodies for the adventurous to find. We hope to expand soon to other mobile service providers in Brazil and around the globe.Lets hope for sms orkuting India also.

Yesterday, at 11:00 am when I was going to shower, the doorbell rang and I was thinking I am not going to open he-he-he silly me. Because I was still wearing sleeping clothes but I did decided to go out and open the door. I was surprised the mail carrier was standing the front door with the package. Whew! I knew already where it comes from. I thought already from Brazil, from my husband’s classmates when he was studying an English language in Australia. This is not the first time she sent a package to us, she sent every time when the holiday season comes. She sent a gift for my husband’s birthday also, she sent to me too and for our little baby Cedric and how sweet she is, that she remembers my husband and she cares and thought of us too.

Brazil’s B2 law goes into effect at 35,000 fuel stations
    2008-01-04 17:23:19
As of Tuesday of this week, all diesel fuel sold in Brazil contains just a pinch (two percent) of biodiesel. The UPI reports that its sources say the law is good for farmers in the country and "won't increase costs for fuel marketing companies" or how much customers pay at the pump. UPI says that the National Petroleum Agency has data that shows that Brazil will save around $410 million a year through importing less diesel. While Brazil is known as the king of ethanol in biofuel circles, the country's leaders have been accelerating biodiesel production so much that the next phase of the mandatory biodiesel blending law (B5) will likely be a reality by 2010 instead of 2012.Related: State-owned Brazilian bank invests $1.777 billion in biofuels Brazil accelerating biodiesel production [Source: UPI]

    F1: Hamilton tops practice 2 - Brazil
    2007-10-19 21:26:07
Championship leader Lewis Hamilton beat title rival Fernando Alonso to the fastest time in Friday afternoon practice at Interlagos. Despite the looming prospect of a post-session visit to the stewards to find out if he will be penalised for using too many sets of wet tyres earlier on, Hamilton set the fastest time by 0.122 seconds when both McLarens tried the softer Bridgestones in the final minutes. The Ferraris only managed third and fourth places. After the rain that affected first practice, only a few damp areas remained when the second session began. A few drivers experimented with intermediate tyres initially, but once Mark Webber had gone quickest by 2.6 seconds on dry tyres, the rest of the field swiftly followed suit. With track conditions improving all the time, the top spot quickly changed hands during the following half an hour. Alonso's early 1:16.081 benchmark did not last long before Hamilton embarked on a long run that eventually took him down to a 1:14.949 lap. Felipe Massa then took a brief turn on top before Alonso reclaimed first place. The BMW drivers were next to lead the way when they tried the softer tyres, with Robert Kubica holding a six tenths of a second advantage over the rest of the field at the halfway point. Alonso's first run on soft tyres was spoilt by traffic, but on the second attempt he produced a 1:13.239 and beat Kubica by 0.3 seconds. That proved insufficient when Hamilton switched to softs five minutes later. The championship leader lapped in 1:12.767, half a second quicker than his teammate. They were briefly split by Felipe Massa, before Alonso found more time on a new set of tyres and closed the gap to Hamilton to 0.122 seconds. Kimi Raikkonen lost time on his soft tyre run when he locked up while trying to pass Hamilton. He could only manage fourth place. Giancarlo Fisichella completed the top five for Renault, ahead of Kubica and the two Williams. Kazuki Nakajima had been as high as fourth during the session, before ending the day 0.009 seconds slower than teammate Nico Rosberg.Pos Driver Team Time Laps 1. Massa doubts he'll need to help Kimi in Brazil
    2007-10-16 06:51:00
Felipe Massa said on Wednesday that his Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen is unlikely to emerge with the world championship from next weekend's season finale in Brazil. He became the first Brazilian since Ayrton Senna to win at home a year ago, but Massa promised to defer to the 27-year-old Finn next Sunday if it will help Ferrari secure the other 2007 title.Raikkonen winning the title would require both Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso to strike major trouble at Interlagos, and Massa told a news conference in Sao Paulo on Wednesday: "I don't think that will happen."But if the miracle happens I'll be glad to help the team."I work for Ferrari, so I'll do what I can to help Kimi, but I'll drive to win the race."It would be great to win it for the fans again," he said.

Kazuki Nakajima replaces Wurz in Brazil
    2007-10-16 06:29:00
The AT&T Williams team today confirmed that Kazuki Nakajima will race for the team in the final Grand Prix of the 2007 season at Interlagos in Brazil in a fortnight’s time. The 22-year old Japanese driver, this year’s GP2 series Rookie of the Year, is the team’s official test and reserve driver. He has covered over 7,000km in the FW29 in testing and has represented the team at five Grands Prix as a Friday driver. The intention behind Kazuki’s nomination is to build and develop his experience and is not an evaluation exercise for a race seat in 2008. AT&T Williams Team Principal, Frank Williams, said, “You cannot assess a driver’s capability on the basis of one race but this is an ideal opportunity to develop Kazuki’s experience. I am confident he will approach the race in a very workmanlike and focused way.” For his part, Kazuki Nakajima said, “I am very grateful to the team who have given me this opportunity. I hope I now know the car very well and thankfully have done some Friday driving as recently as Shanghai. This is a chance I intend to grab with both hands and repay the faith the team are showing in me with a strongperformance.”

Team Germany Is The 2007 Women's Soccer World Cup Champion! Convincing win against Brazil 2-0
    2007-10-14 07:07:07
The German Women's Soccer Team proved that they are still the force to be reckoned with in the world of women's soccer! Goals from Birgit Prinz and and Simone Laudehr dealt the Brazilian the heart breaking loss as they seemed invincible in the run-up matches to this 2007 Women's Soccer World Cup finals. In fact, the Brazilian women had somewhat the upper hand on this match against Germany as they had longer possessions than their opponents and also had more free kicks. Goals however were the things that counted the most as Brazil failed to scored in their lengthy possessions while the German women were precise in their tactics. This competition is a 2008 Beijing Olympics Qualifier tournament.Player of the match Nadine Angerer took the limelight as she saved a penalty kick by Marta.
