| The HIV Risks of Breastfeeding | | 2008-07-24 22:51:49 | | As we are all well familiar with the fact that breastfeeding is the only source of nutrition for newborns and babies. But besides providing nutrition to the newborns it can also transmit some infectious diseases. One of these is HIV. Breastfeeding and HIV does offer considerable risk to newborns. In fact, the risk of breastfeeding and HIV can be as high as 1 in 4 HIV infections if a baby is breastfed by an HIV+ mother. There are risks to breastfeeding from other illnesses too. It has been generally accepted that breastfeeding a newborn is extremely beneficial for the baby as well as for the mother. But there are circumstances which cast a shadow of doubt on that premise. Certain medical conditions make breastfeeding a health risk. Specifically, does HIV, Hepatitis B and C, or herpes pose a risk during breastfeeding. An HIV+ Mom Infect Her Baby While Breastfeeding. | Weaning my baby Clarisse from breastfeeding | | 2008-06-28 10:56:01 | | The past 2 weeks has been very exhausting. Why? Weaning my baby Clarisse from breast-feeding. She would get up once or twice nightly crying to be fed but will not consume anything else except breast milk. Forcing her to drink formula has been fruitless. It made her resent the very sight of a bottle even [...]... | | By: Momma's Diary | | |

| Baby, Breastfeeding and Bottle | | 2008-05-21 01:42:00 | | Translate Baby, Breastfeeding and Bottle Arabic Chinese Simplified Chinese Traditional Dutch French German Greek Italian Japanese Korean Bulgarian Portuguese Russian Spanish Sucrose, Fructose and ObesityBabies may have a reason of their own for preferring Similac Organic: it is significantly sweeter than other formulas. It is the only major brand of organic formula that is sweetened with cane sugar, or sucrose, which is much sweeter than sugars used in other formulas. No health problems in babies have been associated with Similac Organic. But to pediatricians, there are risks in giving babies cane sugar: Sucrose (NYT - Requires a free, one-time registration.) can harm tooth enamel faster than other sugars; once babies get used to its sweeter taste, they might resist less sweet formulas or solid foods; and some studies suggest that they might overeat, leading to rapid weight gain in the first year, which is often a statistical pred... | | By: The Health Archive | | |

| Breastfeeding | | 2008-04-03 19:17:07 | | At WIC, Zachary and I were chosen as the breastfeeding mom and baby of the month! But here is what I came up with:Breastfeeding is one of the most wonderful parts of being a mother for
me. I have never even considered anything else, for so many reasons!
Breastfeeding provides the most amazing, perfect food for my baby--even
changing as my baby grows to be just what his little body needs at
whatever age he is! There can be no worthy substitute for breastmilk.
Breastfeeding has created such a powerful bond between my children and
me. The closeness I feel with my baby as he nurses is so special, and
at the same time he forms a strong attachment to me as well.
Breastfeeding is so easy, convenient, and free! I never have to mix
formula, wash bottles or pack them in the diaper bag--not to mention

| Half-Naked Mamas Defend Breastfeeding | | 2007-06-22 14:53:56 | |
A group of mothers recently bared their breasts in front of the Supreme Court last Tuesday in a creative move against the case filed by big companies challenging ad restrictions on milk substitutes to breastfeeding.
The SC favored the petitioners by issuing a temporary restraining order against the enforcement of milk ad prohibitions. But the aging mothers did a good job of highlighting the need to promote breastfeeding. Although, they were not totally half-naked as slogans were painted over their breasts.
However, it still involved baring, a form of protest action which I am not in favor of. But still, this recent breast baring is more original compared to the worn out naked-running gimmick pursued by some youths last opening of classes.
