| How the Body Works : Breathing | | 2008-07-05 09:57:08 | | The body's breathing apparatus is enclosed in an expansile bony cage, formed by the ribs, the spinal column and the sternum. The floor of the cage is closed by the muscular diaphragm. Air passes down the windpipe, or trachea, to enter the lungs. During inspiration, or inhaling, the diaphragm moves downward and becomes flatter, and the rib cage expands. This creates a partial vacuum in the lungs and, to equalize the pressure, air is drawn in. Expiration, or exhaling, is passive. The lungs have elastic tissue in their walls and during inspiration this is stretched. In expiration its natural recoil causes the lungs to partially deflate.Discuss more on this topic at Live Blood Analysis Forum

| | Proper Breathing, 4 Stages To Better Breath | | 2008-07-03 15:00:00 | | Bob Hubbard from MartialTalk.com tells us about Proper Breathing, 4 Stages to Better Breath The idea of a guide to breathing seems rather strange to some. After all, we all do it automatically. But, like everything else, there is a right way to breath to maximize its benefit to you.The most common breathing uses only the top half of our lungs. This leaves the bottom portion unused and tends to hinder the fullest absorption of oxygen due to the retention of stale air. This stale air and poor use | | By: Boxing - Fighting Center | | |
| | Exercise Your Lungs for Better Breathing and Less Time Out of Breath | | 2008-06-25 21:14:00 | | Breathing is something we do naturally, but rarely do we think about how better breathing can enhance our performance in both sports and everyday activities. Training your lungs is just as critical as other fitness activities we participate in for a better health. There are many benefits to health and many potential problems when the breathing fitness is ignored. Fortunately there are solutions to improve the breathing and thus your performance. If you have difficulty breathing, a conversation with a doctor or respiratory specialist would be time well spent. The information here can be a source of help for these conversations. When breathing properly, the body of oxygen and cells and tissues are received from the energy required to carry out their functions. Concentration has improved, strengthened the immune system, increased metabolism, stress reduction, and an overall feeling of wellbeing. | Can Saunas Improve Your Breathing or Sinus Conditions? | | 2008-06-24 00:00:00 | | Saunas can help those with breathing or sinus conditions breathe better. This may seem like a contradiction, especially since the steam associated with a traditional sauna can aggravate certain breathing conditions, especially asthma. However, studies have shown that those with breathing conditions can actually find relief from a trip to the spa.

| Breathing When Working Out | | 2008-06-04 04:09:00 | | When you first go to the gym the trainer will tell you the most important things you need if you plan to start working out. One of them is breathing and although it is always highlighted so few properly understand its importance and end up neglecting breathing. A general rule of thumb is to always exhale on the exertion part of the exercise (the hard part of the actual movement) and inhale while doing the easy part of the exercise. For instance, when doing push ups, you inhale when you are going down with the weight and you exhale when you push it up away from the floor. You need to properly understand the importance of breathing when working out and this can be highlighted by a simple fact. You can live a few weeks without food and even a few days without water but if you lack oxygen your body dies in minutes. This can be linked with bodybuilding, fitness and every single sport out there as lack of oxygen (or better said enough oxygen) will lead to your body not being able to perform | | By: Great Bodies | | |

| | Fire Breathing Nonsence | | 2008-05-16 00:00:00 | | There are things,
Scary things,
Living in my mind.
And if you took a trip there,
Here are some things you'd find.
Fire breathing monkeys,
Hamsters with super powers,
Butter churning penguins,
And ninja flowers.
Pancake flipping donkeys,
Muffin making snakes,
Showtune singing pineapples,
and Chuck Norris making cupcakes.
Like I said before,
There are some scary things,
Buried in my mind.
I am the definition,

| | Using Breathing to Quiet the Mind | | 2007-12-10 10:04:00 | | When I began my journey of recovery from alcoholism, I became interested in studying all types of spiritual principles. I am a Christian and I believe that there is one God. And I also believe there are many roads to one God. The God I know isn't judgmental or punishing. Life is tough enough without having God against you, too. I know God is always available to anyone--regardless of the level of perceived separation on our part. We were created to be joined to the God who gave free choice. Love is like a boomerang--send it out and it will return to you. The first meditation technique I learned was learning to center myself. When you begin to meditation, find a quiet spot and practice breathing. With your eyes closed, think each breathe you take in. Say or think one thing for the intake breath like "Heal me" and something else on the breathe you expel like "Heal others". With this practice you learn to breath deeper and fuller. Many believe that this proper breathing helps our bodies in countless benefits. Deep breathing methods are generally similar. From one of the books in the Changemaker Library, Stress Control for Peace of Mind, deep breathing is included to bring on the relaxation response. Practicing deep breathing helps to make this response automatic when stress occurs. The author, Linda Wasmer Andrews, suggests the following steps: Sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes. Place one hand on your belly, just below the navel. Take a long, deep breath in. Try to make your hand rise slightly as you inhale. Let the breath out slowly. Try to feel your hand fall slightly as you exhale. Keep taking slow, deep, even breaths for a few minutes. Focus on the steady rising and falling of your hand. She also adds, "If you have trouble getting the hang of belly breathing at the outset, try lying down and placing a book (instead of your hand) on your belly. Then concentrate on making the book move up and down with your breathing. Many people find tha | | By: Changemaker: Healing Mind, Body and Soul | | |
| | Breathing for Health | | 2007-10-01 06:10:54 | | Ancient Chinese Healing Techniques Reveals How to Breathe Disease Out of Your Body...Secret Methods Date Back Over Four Thousand Years-- Harness the Most Fundamental Life Force Known To Eastern DisciplinesDear Friend:It's a system of breathing techniques combined with simple body postures, handed down for centuries by traditional Chinese doctors. These powerful techniques use the principle of chi, considered by Eastern disciplines to be the energy source that carries life through your body.* Imagine treating and preventing cancer, colds, viruses, ulcers, heart disease, arthritis, impotence, and discomfort from menopause--simply by breathing...* Imagine banishing headaches, fatigue, nervousness, stiffness and pain, simply by breathing...* And imagine harnessing the most powerful force in your body, channeling it, and using it to heal yourself...* Imagine all this, and you will understand how important a discovery we've made. Please let me explain...Reveals Ancient Chinese SecretsIt's a secret system of Chinese breathing exercises called ki-kou, a system that's been used by Chinese doctors for thousands of years, to treat everything from colds to cancer. The techniques are based on a force called chi. (Also known as "ki," or "qi" by Eastern philosophies.) It's the same force the ancient Vedics of India called "prana," and was identified as "pneuma" by the classical Greeks.Chi is the vital, essential force behind all life. One ancient saying states that "Chi is the mother of blood." Acupuncture, traditional Chinese medicine, shiatsu and reiki are all based on the principles of chi, and work on the paths through the body that this energy flows through. In fact, anyone familiar with Eastern forms of exercise and meditation has probably heard of chi. Tai chi, yoga, qi gong, karate, and Zen meditation all teach correct breathing as the basic necessity for practice. That's because correct breathing focuses the power of chi and radiates it through the body.Your Breathing is Probably All WrongIn the Western world, we've learned extremely poor breathing habits. We've been taught from an early age to hold in our stomach and stick out our chest. Men are supposed to stand like soldiers, and women like beauty queens. The result is that we learn to breathe by puffing out our chest. This causes very shallow breathing. We're only using the upper portion of the lungs, and neglecting the lower lungs entirely.Poor breathing has even led to a condition known as "hyperventilation syndrome," a little-recognized but common disorder that can cause everything from tiredness and chest pains to sexual problems. People take rapid, small, upper-body breaths, and are not getting enough oxygen.Doctors Recognize the Importance Of Proper Breathing:Now, any doctor can tell you that exhaling carbon dioxide too quickly will disturb the balance of acidity and alkalinity--known as your pH--in your blood. When the acid level drops, a complicated reaction occurs that actually keeps the blood cells from delivering oxygen to muscles and organs, including the brain. According to leading doctors in integrative health, what happens is that the upper chest--specifically the muscles at your neck and upper back--take over the job of breathing. This can lead to high blood pressure, racing heart rate, and shallow breathing that can lie at the root of many of our ills, including heart disease. Doctors have begun to realize the importance of proper breathing. Breathing techniques are now used by Western doctors for a variety of treatments, for everything from sports performance to reducing high blood pressure, and from headaches to emphysema. This is a good beginning, and a step in the right direction. But the breathing techniques Western doctors are using are still simply based on getting more oxygen into the lower lungs.Unfortunately, Western Medicine Completely Misses the Most Powerful Secret of Healing:You see, Western medicine refuses to recognize the existence of energy fields. If Western scientists can't measure something, quantify it, and put it under a microscope, to them it doesn't exist. In the Eastern healing systems, they're not bound by these quantitative limitations. These secrets have been used for thousands of years, and thousands of years of success is proof enough for them. These healers understand the most powerful force in living beings: The power of chi. By practicing ki-kou, the ancient Chinese breathing techniques, you do much more than simply get more oxygen into the lower lobes of your lungs. You actually radiate vital life energy through your body. The ancient Chinese believed that when chi is stalled in your body, you get sick. When you practice ki-kou, your energy is able to travel through your body freely, healing and preventing disease. That's why chi is the basis of so many Eastern healing arts. They believe that healing and wellness stem from the care and management of this central life force, the energy system that is within every living creature. The belief is that when chi flows freely and smoothly, the body's organs and systems are in a state of harmony. When chi becomes blocked, imbalance and illness can occur. Here are just a few of the techniques you can use to heal and prevent disease:* Prevent and help treat cancer with "ton-ren-mai-zan." (In this technique, you'll also learn to use two secret pressure points, known as dan-chu and hya-kkai, along with the breathing. These are critical areas where chi can be stalled in the body, causing illness and disease.)* Relieve angina with "fei-je-jan-you"--simple movements that Western doctors may not discover for another hundred years.* End fatigue with "pei-ta-chuen-shen." (This technique uses a secret system of tapping and patting the body--more concentrated than massage, but more gentle than acupressure--to free energy throughout the body. It's fast, it's easy, and the results are amazing.)* Banish arthritis pain with "woo-rong-tan-jao:" Forget drugs! They simply mask pain and suppress inflammation. Healing techniques such as woo-rong-tan-jao combine gentle movements, breathing, and the body's own energy to relieve and heal afflicted areas. Now you are completely relaxed right? You feel calmness and peace within yourself. You feel emotions such as nervousness and anxiety slipping away. Your chi can flow smoothly through your body, and you are ready... Deep breathing helps the potent points release any pain or tension and encourages healing energy to flow throughout the body. As you practice the self-acupressure routines in this book and concentrate on breathing deeply into your abdomen, you will help your body heal itself and generate a great feeling of well-being.Concentrated breathing can especially help you better use a potent point that is painful. A known allergy that people experience is that of Asthma. Asthma is caused by various things such as over breathing. Hence the thing is, a person has to get down to the immediate problem first before they can turn towards addressing the sleeping deprivation state from snoring. But thanks to the Buteyko Breathing Method, sleep deprivation victims can now look forward to another potential aid.
Snoring is almost certain to occur. One can just imagine how worst the situation can occur considering that snoring alone may be more than just nasal blockages. It would be best to consult physicians first, especially if they have asthma problems.

Most will be unaware that the impact that such factors would have on the human body are very much important. For some, it may become a difference between determining the overall well-being of a person and that of potential health risks which may come up when they are supposedly resting their laurels.
To date, the only way to be able to determine if something is indeed wrong with a person is by resorting to medical attention. There are gadgets that can help determine the overall healthy state of a person through them and it would be wise to be alert of such. In some cases, taking such health concerns for granted may eventually become vying factors that can spell the difference between life and death.
