| A chat with Brett Favre ... sort of | | 2008-08-22 05:34:23 | |
Since there is currently no Jets blog here on SB Nation, I can't do a '5 Questions' segment with a rival blogger this week. So, in place of that, here is a Q&A with Jets quarterback Brett Favre ... sort of. It's actually what Favre would have said if he had really spoken with Big Blue View.
Big Blue View: Thank you for taking ...
Favre: Cut the speech and get on with the questions, punk! I haven't got all day. I've got hunting to do.
Big Blue View: Hunting? In New York City?
Favre: Yep. I'm hunting for Corey Webster. That imbecile ruined my retirement, having the balls to intercept that pass. Without him, I could have gone to the Super Bowl and then retired like the hero I really am, which is what was supposed to happen. I'm BRETT FAVRE, dammit! I have unfinished business with him.
Big Blue View: Umm ... Mr. Favre, Webster will be playing Saturday night in your exhibition game against the Giants. You can find him on the field.
Favre: Oh. He didn't retire? Dummy should have. He wi | | By: Big Blue View
| | | We Now Return You to Your Regularly Scheduled Brett Favre Update… | | 2008-08-07 06:42:00 | | That muffled thumping sound you’re hearing is Chad Pennington repeatedly banging his head against the wall. Rickey usually doesn’t pick up the sports pages until later on in the day, but apparently it has been somewhat of an eventful evening for you Jets fans. Rickey’s received three text messages in the past hour from inexplicably joyful Jets fans happily anticipating the dawn of a new era for Gang Green. Rickey’s quick response to all of them: “why haven’t you hung yourself already?” Sorry but unless watching a sixty four year old quarterback repeatedly overthrow his intended receivers is the sort of thing you’re into, this is incredibly bad news for you Jets fans out there. While ESPN et al., had spent the past weeks pontificating where Favre would end up (we had our money on Beijing and/or Mars) Rickey became increasingly mystified over the media infatuation with an athlete well past his prime. | | Brett Favre Traded to Jets… | | 2008-08-06 22:56:37 | | I
It is being reported that Brett Favre has been traded to the New York Jets for a draft pick. The exact compensation was not immediately known, but it is believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season. | | Mythbusting:: Brett Favre and the Jacksonville Jaguars | | 2008-07-07 14:46:15 | | This will never happen!
There is nothing more disapointing as a a sports fan than to hear a rumor that makes no sense, but because it's said by a "serious person", it spreads farther than it should. As we are all painfully aware of, Brett Favre is dominating the media cycle with his "itch", and with this irritation comes terrible specuation about where he might play in 2008.Because some in the media are ignorant of the Jaguars, their name comes up. Perhaps it's because of the residual memories of Byron Leftwich or the lack of recognition outside the North-Florida region, but the team is coming up in discussions of possible homes for the 38 year-old gunslinger. I've heard that Dan Patrick even alluded that the Jaguars were interested in the soon-to-be Green Bay exile.Excuse me? Is this 2007? Did Jack Del Rio decide to play games with David Garrard like he did with the Byron Leftwich/Daunte Culpepper noise of last July? Of course not. | | Au Revoir, Brett Favre | | 2008-03-06 10:15:56 | | Click here to see Favre's press conference streamed live. Sometimes, certain players transcend the game of football. This is a Buffalo Bills blog, and Brett Favre is a transcendent player. Today, the legend is officially announcing his retirement from the game. It has no effect on the Buffalo Bills; like Favre's playing career, it has a profound effect on any football fan. Brett Favre wasn't the greatest quarterback of all time. Nonetheless, he's a legend. He was, at the very core of his mythology, a gunslinger. You'll be hard-pressed to find a quarterback that was as much fun to watch ever again. Au revoir, Brett. You'll be missed. Check out NFL.com at noon to see Favre's retirement press conference. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings
| | Brett Favre | | 2008-03-06 04:31:00 | | A legend has left us, and the world of football will never be the same. Brett Favre's career and his legacy have been discussed in depth so much everywhere by now, I won't go into great detail. Favre leaves the NFL holding virtually every major statistical mark a quarterback can achieve in all-time career categories, including wins, touchdown passes, and passing yards. While it is possible his numbers will one day be bested, we will not likely see that day come any season soon.Favre was a player like no other and I always hoped that the television scheduling gods would look upon me and grace me with a Packers game. Favre will be sorely missed by the entire state of Wisconsin and his fans the world over, myself included. However, from Favre's position, this was likely going to be his best chance to go out as close to the top as he would be able to. Last year was one of his best and finished off an unparralled career. | | By: Sunrise on the Sufferbus | | |
| | Brett Favre Retires: The end of an era... | | 2008-03-04 15:09:46 | | [editor's note, by River City Rage]: Acme Packing Company is a great source for more Green Bay News! If you've turned on ESPN or strolled across the radio dial to sports talk today this simply won't be news. Brett Favre has retired today. In retrospect, the Green Bay Packers were smart in making a backup web page for the breaking news because it seems the entire NFL has stopped for the day to recognize the retirement of one of its greats. As a Jacksonville fan and a general admirer of the sport, I too will tip my hat and raise my glass for one of the most interesting players to watch. Though I don't have all the love in the world for the guy, I respect what he's accomplished on the field. Let's be frank here, Brett Favre has played for longer than the Jaguars have existed. When Brett Favre was drafted I was in the third grade. I trace my football consciousness to 1993, one year after Brett became a Packer. | | NFL QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE FINALLY MOVES TO RETIREMENT | | 2008-03-04 14:07:00 | | After 17 good years of playing on the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, quarterback Brett Favre finally decided to retire from the game. The Packers retired quarterback told ESPN today in quote, “I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired.” The legendary three-time MVP has achieved many goals in his career, including over several league records and, this year, setting the most career touchdown passes in the NFL. | | Even Mike Shanahan Has Thoughts On Brett Favre | | 2008-03-04 13:11:39 | | Mike Shanahan released this statement about Brett Favre -- "Brett Favre is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of professional football. You're judged by winning, and he's won more games than any other quarterback who has ever played. But I will remember him just as well for being such a fierce competitor and an outstanding leader. "He was the face of the Packers and a great credit to our game. It was an honor to coach against him." Did Brett die or just retire???

| | Brett Favre Retires From The NFL | | 2008-03-04 12:40:59 | | Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that Packers QB Brett Favre has decided to call it quits. Favre will finish with a magnificent line of 263 consecutive starts, an 85.7 quarterback rating, 61,655 yards, and 442 touchdowns. | | By: JetsCentral.com | | |
| | Brett Favre Retiring From The NFL | | 2008-03-04 08:38:02 | | Fox Sports' Jay Glazer is reporting, and Buzz Cook, Favre's agent has confirmed, that Brett Favre has told Packer's Head Coach Mike McCarthy he is retiring. Favre is apparently upset that the Pack was unable to get Randy Moss, and this decision was, in no doubt, affected by Green Bay's lack-luster attempt to obtain Moss, this year or last off-season. This is typical Brett Favre. Selfish. Yea, he'll go down with all those records, but I'll remember Favre's last pass, an interception, and his "I am taking my ball and going home" attitude he is expressing in quitting now. At least Packers fans can take heart that Favre can not hold the franchise hostage. The best comes from JSOnline -- Quarterback Brett Favre told Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy Monday night that he was going to retire. But his agent, James (Bus) Cook, told the Journal Sentinel this morning that he believes Favre wants to play another year and didn't get the sense that the Packers wanted him back all | | By: Mile High Report | | |

Fantasy Outlook:
Why should you draft Brett Favre: At this stage of his career, Brett Favre is backup fantasy quarterback. That being said, Favre hasn't missed a game since 1992, and he can be cemented in for throwing over 3000 yards, which is the kind of production and reliability that fantasy owners want from their bench. Since joining the Packers in 1992, Favre has never thrown fewer than 18 touchdown passes in a single season. Not to mention, it wasn't that long ago (2004) that he threw for 4088 yards and 30 touchdowns.
Why you may want to stay away from drafting Brett Favre: Over the last four seasons, Favre has averaged nearly 22 interceptions and almost seven fumbles. In his prime, Favre was | | By: DR U Fantasy Football GURU
| | Brett Favre Asked to be Traded | | 2007-05-14 14:00:00 | | It is being reported that Brett Favre requested to be traded to another team once the Green Bay Packers failed to acquire Randy Moss. Even if the report is not true, there is no debating the fact that Favre is seeking another Super Bowl ring. So I got to thinking, what teams could Favre get traded to that would have a chance to win the Super Bowl?
Well, the first thing I did was eliminate the contending teams that already have a star quarterback. Therefore, the following teams are not an option for Favre: New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles.
Next, I ruled out the quality teams that are using young signal callers that appear to be their future franchise quarterbacks. Consequently, the following teams are also not an option for Favre: San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
