NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell continued with his no nonsense policy sense becoming the leagues top guy. Today he informed the San Francisco 49′ers that they were forfeiting their 5th round pick in next month’s draft. This after an investigation that he determined the Niners tampered with Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs.

| Potential Bills Free Agent: LB Lance Briggs | | 2008-02-19 16:40:49 | | Briggs seems poised to re-sign with the Bears (Photo Source) It's a name that has enticed Buffalo Bills fans for over a calendar year. For a Bills team that is in need of playmakers wherever they can find them, fans have continually pleaded the organization to make a move for this linebacker. He has experience in the Cover-2, he's been a key cog on a team that made a trip to the Super Bowl, and he's once again the elite name amongst free agent linebackers. I speak, of course, of the Chicago Bears' Lance Briggs. The 27-year old veteran has enjoyed four straight 100+ tackles with the Bears, and has developed into a star on one of the quickest, most menacing defenses in the league (up until last season, at least). But just how available is Briggs? When a player this elite becomes available, demand is high. What would it take to get Briggs into a Bills uniform - and is it even a good decision to do that? | | Bears and Briggs to Try and Settle Differences | | 2007-07-05 17:09:27 | | It appears as if the Bears and Lance Briggs are going to try and work out their differences, as agent Drew Rosenhaus has presented some new proposals to the Bears about getting Briggs back in the fold. While Rosenhaus was in Chicago wrapping up the five-year deal for first-round pick TE Greg Olsen, he gave the Bears some food for thought about Briggs. “We presented some concepts that we think will work for the Bears and for Lance,” Rosenhaus said in the Chicago Tribune.
It has been a stressful offseason between the Bears and Briggs, to the point where Chicago slapped him with the franchise tag when a new deal could not be worked out. The tag will guarentee him $7.2 mil for one season, much to the dislike of Briggs, who has been outspoken in wanting out of the Windy City. The talks between Rosenhaus and the Bears is the first sign of progress for quite some time.
