    Britons kidnapped in Iraq are ‘held by Iran’

    Five British hostages who were kidnapped in Iraq almost a year ago are being held inside Iran by Revolutionary Guards, according to two separate sources in the Middle East and London.The hostages were handed over to the Revolutionary Guards by their Iraqi kidnappers last November, the sources believe. One of the sources said they were being held in the western Iranian city of Hamadan.If confirmed, the involvement of Revolutionary Guards would be seen as evidence that senior figures in the Iranian government had backed the decision to hold them in the country.     Britons buying greener new cars in 2008

    According to a survey by Motorpoint, a UK car supermarket group, three out of five new car buyers in 2008 will be purchasing a vehicle with lower CO2 emissions than their previous car. Motorpoint reached this conclusion after checking its own order books, but they aren't the first ones to notice the trend. "We've increased our online sales force by more than 10 percent in order to cope with the increase in customer inquiries and orders. And many of those inquiries involve giving advice about CO2 emissions levels," said Motorpoint operations director Paul Winfield. "But let's not lose sight of the fact that, though the Government wants to get people out of high-emissions vehicles by making them more expensive while also cutting the cost of driving the more environmentally-friendly alternatives, our survey also shows forty per cent of the country's 33 million drivers are still ready to pay the price for driving the car of their choice however polluting it may be," he added.     Britons join Kurdish rebels to fight Turks

    Britons are among foreigners fighting Turkish troops with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, The Sunday Times can reveal.According to PKK fighters holed up in one of the natural fortresses of the Qandil mountain range which runs along Iraq’s Turkish and Iranian borders, several Europeans have joined forces with their group.At least three Britons were in the PKK’s 3,000-strong force, boasted one fighter as he and a group of men huddled in a room discussing the latest clashes with the Turkish army. The group also included a South African expatriate worker, a spokesman for the U.S. embassy, who declined to be identified, said by telephone from Abuja. A spokesman for the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth office in London, who also declined to be identified, confirmed the number of Britons seized. The workers were abducted from a pipe-laying vessel off the coast of the Niger Delta near the Brass crude oil export terminal, the Reuters news agency said. As many as nine people may have been taken, Agence-France Press said, citing unidentified people.
