| | Mozilla Firefox Web Browser | | 2007-10-23 22:27:00 | | A web browser is an essential software program that every PC must have. Without it, you won't be able to access the Internet. One popular web browser is Firefox (created by Mozilla). Well, it maybe not as well-known as Internet Explorer (which comes with every Windows OS), but from my experience, it's definitely BETTER.First of all, it's FREE. You can get it here.Internet Explorer (IE) can only be used in a computer with a Windows OS. Safari (a default Mac web browser) -- I'm not sure. I haven't tried using it.In terms of security, Firefox is equipped with phising protection (for online financial information processing), a pop-up blocker, and an anti-spyware feature. The Tab BrowsingThe tab feature was first used in Firefox (IE also has it now on its latest version, IE 7). The 'tab' is like a semi-window which opens at the very same window that you are using when web browsing. For me, it's a very useful feature, since you don't have to open a new window for several links. A lot | | By: One Site Fits All. | | |
| | Flock - THE Social Networking browser | | 2007-10-23 11:16:00 | | As I mentioned yesterday I have discovered another time saving and organization tool ideal for bloggers and this is a doozy. It was enough to set this blogger's heart all a quiver. The application responsible, the Flock browser, is not new but it's newly released version has surpassed itself in my expectations. with its new social networking and blogging features.I have been using Flock, almost since its inception, as a secondary browser, often having it and Firefox open at the same time. Flock is built on top of the Firefox application and the only reason I used it as second choice was that Firefox was all set up with my favorite extensions and I did not spend the time adding them to Flock.I am now making Flock my preferred browser as it is ideally suited to managing and organizing blogging, social networking, bookmarking, researching and online photos. Come to think of it, that is basically all of my online life. I do not even have to add many extensions because so many features are built in already.I could write a really long post about all the features but as it is has so much in common with Firefox I will stick to the areas I think are valuable to bloggers. Some are new, others have always been there:People Sidebar- shows your contacts and allows you to interact with them according to the application - eg message, send link, add a wall post, twitter, go to their profiles, view their favorite YouTube videos in the Flock media bar. These features really do save time as well as keeping you up to date and reducing the need for multipletools/extensions.MyWorld toolbar button opens up a three-columned page showing your Favorite Sites, Favorite Feeds, and Favorite Media.Blog directly from Flock's blog editor as I am doing now.Web clips - drag a URL or image onto the clipboard, where it gets saved and blog about it with one click.Upload Photos directly to Flickr, Photobucket or Piczo by dragging and dropping - I have used this for quite a while now. So quick.Star - Click on the Star button when you see a photo, video, page you like, to easily find it afterwards.Del.icio.us - view your browser favorites and del.icio.us favorites in one sidebar - much speedier than the Firefox extensions I have used to do this.Feed reader - inbuiltI love this application and after almost 20 years of online life it takes a lot to impress me so much. | | | Clearing passwords from your browser | | 2007-09-26 03:55:00 | | There is nothing better than automation, especially when it comes to remembering passwords to websites. How about when automation turns nasty, or out of control? Sound like something out of the Terminator movies, You can relate right? Often, password management is like the weed in the garden that takes control of everything. It can be overwhelming, and downright impossible to manage them all. What’s worse, most of your passwords are masked – that is the browser turns them into little stars and asterisks. How do you remember them, and what do you do when your password management stops doing its job? You can easily tell when this happens. It’s when you cannot login to your favorite sites. Internet explorer and Mozilla firefox both come with password management utilities and neat options to automatically fill in webpage forms. When the time comes to reset a password or request a new password from that locked out website (for example; The little sentence under the login that says -forgot your password?) You can easily access these features and perform a few simple steps; Internet Explorer: To clear out ALL your saved passwords,Click tools, internet options, then click the Delete button. This will open a prompt to allow you to choose what to delete. You have the option to delete all your history and temporary internet files, or individual deletion of temporary internet files, cookies, history, form data, and passwords. The last being the ones you should be most concerned with. Note if you delete passwords, ALL are delete, there is no selective deletion. To completely disable the Prompt to save passwords; Open Tools, then internet options. Click the content tab. Look beside the Autocomplete section and click the settings button just to the right hand side. Clear the following checkmarks: - Usernames and passwords on forms. Clearing all the checkmarks (web addresses forms, user names and passwords on forms, prompt me to save passwords) will completely disable these autocomplete features. Mozilla Firefox has the same features, however with a little more control. Mainly, it offers the ability to actually see the passwords to your favorite websites. To control these settings, open tools, options, then look in the privacy tab for Private Data, then click settings. The options are very similar to the previous step for Internet Explorer. If you need to see passwords to your websites, look under the Security tab, passwords, then click show passwords. Once that dialog box opens, click the show passwords box once again to see your passwords. Get Others To Promote YOUR Affiliate LinksOn Over 2 Million Webpages Across The Internet...FREE! | | | How To Clear The Internet Explorer Browser History | | 2007-07-31 14:38:35 | | Microsoft Internet Explorer keeps a record of all of the web sites you have visited. Spyware objects that infect your computer from the web and other sources will sometimes steal this data. It is then used to profile your browsing history. The worst part is spyware can be hard to detect without the right programs. One safe habit is routinely deleting the list will help to make sure you don't leave a trail laying around for intrusive advertising companies to find. Here are the steps for clearing the Internet Explorer browser history. 1) Click "Start" 2) Click "Control Panel" 3) Double-click "Internet Options" 4) When the "Internet Options" window opens, click the "General" tab if you are not there already. 5) Under "Browsing history" click the "Delete" button, this will open the "Delete Browsing History" window. 6) This window allows you to clear on types of data at a time, or to erase the entire history at once. The different types of data you can clear are "Temporary Internet Files", "Cookies", "History", "Form Data", and "Passwords".It is highly recommended that "Temporary Internet Files", "Cookies" and "History" are cleared at the least. If only these three are deleted, IE will still save passwords and information you have entered into forms on the web. To clear all data instead of individual selections, simply click the "Delete all..." button near the bottom. When a window opens asking you to confirm, click "Yes". 7) When you are back at the "Internet Properties" window, click "OK" and you are finished. Also see Using EasyCleaner To Delete Excess Files, Registry Entires and Browswer History | | By: Windows XP Security Tips | | |

| | | Firefox winning the browser battle | | 2007-07-15 15:52:31 | | IT Wire is reporting that a poll of web sites indicates that Firefox has seriously eroded the market leadership of Internet Explorer. Just to sink this one home for folks, at techwag, these are the browsers over the last 30 days.
1. Firefox 1,648 44.81%
2. Internet Explorer 1,563 42.50%
3. Safari 207 5.63%
4. Netscape 129 3.51%
Not a bad showing for a browser that works just fine, and a near miraculous recovery for the competition when it comes to who is going to own the browser of choice in the longer run.
A study of nearly 96,000 websites carried out during the week of July 2 to July 8 found that FF had 27.8% market share across Eastern and Western Europe, IE had 66.5%, with other browsers including Safari and Opera making up the remaining 5.7%. The July market share represents a massive 3.7% rise since a similar survey in March. Source: IT Wire

| | How To Make Firefox Clear Private Data When You Exit The Browser | | 2007-07-05 10:52:57 | | Firefox has a nice feature which allows you to clear private data from the browser each time you close it down. This is a good idea since information about where you have been on the web is stored in your browser history. Sometimes web sites give out what are called "cookies". These can either be helpful or harmful. The helpful ones add functionality to web sites. The harmful ones can steel information from your history to see where you have been browsing. This data is then sent to shady advertising companies. Firefox also stores information which you have entered into forms as well as your passwords. Some people like to have all of this information removed each time they close the browser with a nice feature called "clear private data". 1) Click "Tools" in the top menu of Firefox. 2) Select "Options" at the bottom of the list. 3) When the Options window is open, click the "Privacy" tab at the top of it. You will be taken to a window with all of the privacy options. 4) Under "History" you will see three checkboxes with the following lines next to them: "Remember visited pages for the last _ days." "Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar" "Remember what I've downloaded" Leave the first box checked and change the number of days to 1. Uncheck the next two boxes below that one so Firefox does not remember what you enter in forms or what you've downloaded. 5) Under "Cookies" leave everything like it is. There is a better way of handling them which will be covered in the next steps. 6) Under "Private Data" you will see two checkboxes. Check the one which says "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox". Uncheck the box that says "Ask me before clearing private data" if it is not already unchecked. Look over to the right and click the "Settings..." button. This will open | | By: Windows XP Security Tips | | |

| | | | Evergreen’s network TV tuner streams content to your web browser | | 2007-06-15 17:54:28 | |
While it’s not apt to replace Sling anytime soon, Evergreen is hoping to give the Japanese market a taste of network TV tuning with its JTV-100-F-PJ. The device — which happens to resemble an external modem circa 1998 — accepts both coaxial cable inputs and composite video sources and converts them to MPEG4, which can then be streamed to a network TV server or viewed on your web browser. Notably, it even allows you to view the content in a trio of resolutions depending on the bandwidth available, and it boasts a maximum bit rate of 1.8Mbps. So for those still yearning for a placeshifting box over in Okinawa, Evergreen’s alternative is available as of today for a respectable ¥19,999 ($163). Jump on through for a shot of the rear.
