The "Day of Honor" in Budapest
    2008-02-10 07:10:00
Every year Hungarian and foreign skinheads remember February 11 1945, when German and Hungarian troops attempted to break out of the Soviet siege in Budapest. The memorial which took place on Heroes Square, was registered by DOMOKOS Endre János who was the leader of the Hungarian Blood and Honor (Vér és Becsület) association. This organisation was dissolved by the court few years ago because, let's say, their memorandum of foundation didn't really "match" the Constitution. The event is always in the focus of the media since showing thousands of skinheads marching and holding flags looks impressive on the newspaper covers. This day (or as the organisers call it the "Day of Honor") is of course followed by counter demonstrations, this year by a peaceful flash mob and by a noisy demonstration of punks anarchists.click here for pictures

    Old Budapest #1
    2008-02-05 10:09:00
Since our previous filler worked out really good and we like all kind of retro stuff we are going to launch an "old Budapest" series. This will be basically based on the film Budapest retro which is composed of archive film footages from the 60's-70's. This time period is the middle of the so-called "Kádár era" which is considered as a soft version of the communist despotism. Hungary in this particular period enjoyed many amenities not available to other communist countries in the Eastern block, but paid a high economic price for it in the early 90's. Of course the "happy"people on the videos didn't know what the consequences would be of their short prosperity.

    Illegal metro party in Budapest
    2008-01-20 20:10:00
A flash mob-like action took place on subway-line 3 in Budapest on Saturday where a whole wagon was totally occupied for a few stops. The participans calling themselves the 4th republic were organising the event through e-mails and gathered almost 200 people hungry for a cool "metro party". The action was ceased when the driver stopped the veichle and called security and the police. Click for video and more.According to the police: "(..) raging young people occupied a subway wagon which was forced to wait for 13 minutes (...) no damage or personal injuries were done." The action seemed to scare the hell out of the authorities because they arrived with a relatively huge force on the scene although in other countries these events are quite common. And maybe if the Budapest Mass Transportation Company would have watch the film Kontroll they might have not been scared like hell:picture made by visualterror

    Budapest swing lovers
    2008-01-07 14:50:11

The minor country: Martin SCHULZ 's reaction to last week's riots in Budapest
    2007-11-02 16:35:00
Well the quiet times are good for one thing (besides learning) to have time for reading. This video what I've found here on most and itt blog was recorded about one week ago on an EU Parliament session where the leader of the European Socialist Fraction, Martin SCHULZ is speaking about the urban disorders in Budapest during the national holiday. He says that it was up to everbody to decide to love or hate the Hungarian Prime Minister GYURCSÁNY Ferenc (MSZP) but calling him a "dirty jew" by the protesters was something that could not be accepted. This is a sign of fascism. After his speech only few MPs weren't clapping, among them two Hungarians. They are members of the opposing party FIDESZ and are looking in the distance confused of what to react. When I wrote previously about this topic I was absolutely sure that regulations like the Hatred Act are not needed in an adult country. I was absolutely sure that the vast majority of a society which accepts the fundamental and universal human rights is unable to take seriously theories and concepts like antisemitism, the "side effects" of which are well known from history. But the MPs' confusion confuses me also. If there are representatives of a country which cannot deal with "these phenomenons", then this is a minor society and the Act is needed to cure this childhood sickness. I hope the time is not far away when Hungarian society grows up and will have the ability to define and accept (without the help of law) those groups of topics which are never to be questioned by educated people.
