| Buffalo's offense impressive in victory in Indy | | 2008-08-24 21:48:08 | | Poz, defense force five turnovers in W (Photo Source)
The Buffalo Bills were the first visitors ever to Indianapolis' brand new Lucas Oil Stadium, and the Bills proved to be rude party guests, stealing a 20-7 victory over the Colts in the team's third pre-season game of the season. Buffalo looked strong and consistent in all three areas of the game, but it was Turk Schonert's offense that hummed along as if it were in mid-season form, even with backup QB J.P. Losman running the show.
Buffalo's starting offense put together an 18-play, 93-yard drive in the second quarter, eating up 10 minutes of clock and converting four third downs; RB Xavier Omon capped the drive with a one-yard touchdown run, giving the Bills an early 10-0 lead in the game. Losman was efficient in a half of action, completing 13 of 19 passes for 108 yards, though he did sustain another injury to his throwing hand.

| | Just how "easy" is Buffalo's 2008 schedule? | | 2008-08-19 18:58:27 | | Bills second-year QB Trent Edwards (Photo Source)
They say that no schedule in the NFL is an easy schedule. That holds especially true when a given football team is young and inexperienced at key positions - most notably quarterback. Even with an easy schedule, that youth may not be able to capitalize on their opponent advantage.
The 2008 Buffalo Bills, however, are hoping that their young team - led by second-year quarterback Trent Edwards - can do just that in making the post-season for the first time since 1999. In an ultra-talented conference packed with several Super Bowl contenders, these Bills can use any advantage they can muster.
Just how "easy" is Buffalo's schedule? Let's examine...

This year, we will have three Rumblings fantasy leagues. We had 30 brave bloggers from this site sign up, and thus we'll have three ten-team leagues: the Rumblings Premiere League (RPL) and two other leagues who will compete for a spot in the RPL next season.

| | Buffalo Rumblings Exclusive: Interview with LB John DiGiorgio | | 2008-07-21 06:00:06 | | DiGiorgio a key contributor entering third season (Photo Source)
Entering his third season as an NFL linebacker, John DiGiorgio of the Buffalo Bills has quickly made a name for himself. The former undrafted free agent out of Saginaw Valley State, in just his second year in the league, started 14 games in 2007 and was quietly one of Buffalo's most consistent defenders, compiling 112 total tackles, two sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries in place of injured starter Paul Posluszny.
Even though it seems highly likely that DiGiorgio is headed back to a reserve role this season, his experience from last season automatically makes him one of Buffalo's most important young depth players. He's also expected to be a key contributor on a revamped Bills special teams unit as well. With a blue-collar work ethic, a scrappy on-field demeanor, and the ability to produce when called upon, DiGiorgio has the potential to become a fan favorite in Buffalo if he continues to | | By: Buffalo Rumblings
| | Putting Buffalo's Schedule, Playoff Hopes in Perspective | | 2008-07-16 12:00:07 | | Can Buffalo really deliver on Whitner's guarantee? (Photo Source)
As the beginnings of the 2008 NFL season approach, Buffalo Bills fans are more hopeful than we have been in recent memory that the Bills - who have not made a playoff appearance since 1999 - can end their playoff drought. Citing a weak schedule and improvements made to personnel in the off-season, playoff predictions and double-digit winning records are predicted by fans on nearly a daily basis.
It ain't that easy, folks.
Let's put aside the players themselves for a moment - because at this point, making an attempt to gauge just how good each individual team can be based on their off-seasons alone is quite the difficult task. It's much simpler to focus on what we already know, and that's what happened last year. That easy schedule we reference so often? It's not even the easiest schedule in the AFC East, a division so top-heavy and mediocre that beyond New England, it's a virtual crapshoot. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| | If You Ran the Buffalo Bills' Front Office... | | 2008-07-09 19:09:31 | | Evans headlines list of unsigned impact Bills (Photo Source)
It's something that nearly every Buffalo Bills fan out there has fantasized about at least once (or, as in my case, multiple times daily): having a say in personnel decisions for our favorite team. I can't begin to list here every little thing I'd have done differently than Buffalo's various front office personnel over the years; it'd take months to get everything out on that front.
This evening (and we'll discuss it through lunch-ish tomorrow), however, our greatest dreams are being realized - in some twisted, hardly-based-in-reality way. Our task as Buffalo's fantasy front office is simple: prioritize the five big-name players seeking new (or inaugural) deals from the team.
Sure, it's all good that the team has signed half of its ten draft picks (CB Reggie Corner, TE Derek Fine, OT Demetrius Bell, WR Steve Johnson, CB Kennard Cox); it's also great that the team has taken measures to lock up young talent such as | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Last year, cornerback was an area of weakness for the Buffalo Bills. Injuries to veteran Jason Webster and Ashton Youboty forced Jabari Greer into the starting lineup, and while he performed generally very well, depth was so thin that the Bills often played safeties (such as Donte Whitner, Jim Leonhard and Bryan Scott) on slot receivers.
Clearly, depth is no longer of concern at the position. The team's two starters - Greer and Terrence McGee - return. Youboty is back. The team added veteran Will James via free agency, who brings some much needed experience and size to the group. And, of course, the team added three corners through the draft; two (top pick Leodis McKelvin, fourth-rounder Reggie Corner) are expected to stick.
With six players that could see playing time at the position, one does wonder: exactly what will Buffalo's depth chart look like on opening day 2008? It's anybody's guess - bu | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Former Bills C Kent Hull (Photo Source)
Over the past few weeks, readers of Buffalo Rumblings have been diving into their collective histories as Buffalo Bills fans, recalling memories, waxing nostalgic, and putting together a roster of players we're calling Buffalo Rumblings' Best of the Bills Team.
All of the starters are in for this team's offensive unit save one very underrated position: center. (Just ask Ron from NM and his padawans about the importance of a good center.) Who will man the pivot on our team of all-time greats? We've got three candidates for you to vote on, as usual, but entrance polls are indicating that this vote may be a runaway...
Al Bemiller ('61-'69): One of the better lineman of the earliest Bills teams, Bemiller manned the pivot of the line that paved the way to two AFL championships. Bemiller was also a highly versatile player, starting games at left tackle and right guard during his nine-year stint as a member of the team. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Schouman unexpectedly steals early reps (Photo Source)
Can a man with three career receptions - for 19 yards - possibly be the savior of a Buffalo Bills offense that, in reality, was one of the worst units in franchise history last season?
Second-year tight end Derek Schouman, like every Bills fan familiar with the name, is about to find out.
A 2007 seventh-round draft pick out of Boise State, Schouman was not even an initial member of Buffalo's final roster last season. After the severe injury to TE Kevin Everett and another injury to TE Ryan Neufeld, Schouman was elevated to the active roster after spending the first five games of the season on the practice squad.
His active-roster stay as a rookie ended less than a month later, as an ankle injury forced the team to place Schouman on Injured Reserve on November 8, days after Schouman set career highs of two catches for 10 yards in a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hall of Fame OG Joe DeLamielleure (Photo Source)
Throughout the storied history of the franchise, the Buffalo Bills have had many excellent players pass through the doors of the team's facilities. We've discussed a lot of them recently, including Hall of Fame (and potential Hall of Fame) talents like Jim Kelly, O.J. Simpson, Thurman Thomas and Andre Reed.
Who knew, however, that Buffalo's deepest position of all-time - at least offensively - may be offensive guard?
Today, when voting for our two starting guards on our Buffalo Rumblings Best of the Bills Team, we have four candidates to choose from. Two are Hall of Fame players, one went to four Super Bowls, and a third is currently finishing out his active career and could very well end up in the Hall of Fame himself. There's plenty of talent to choose from here, to be sure; here are your four candidates for starting guard on our Best of the Bills Team:

Important: Please read voting instructions carefully.
Back by popular demand, I thought this morning would be as good a time as any to re-vote on the wide receiver position for our Buffalo Rumblings Best of the Bills Team. Thus far, QB Jim Kelly, RB Thurman Thomas and TE Pete Metzelaars have been "officially" voted onto the team; wide receivers will officially join them this morning, but only after a re-vote.
First thing's first: Bills all-time leading receiver Andre Reed has been declared a "mortal lock" for the team, as he is Buffalo's all-time leading receiver and the one wideout most likely to make the Hall of Fame as a Bill (James Lofton doesn't count).
That leaves four candidates for two spots. Here's where it gets important. Please vote for one (1) player NOT worthy of making this team. Just like American Idol (or whatever other input-laden reality show you watch), vote for the player you don't want to see on the team. It's that simple.

With the rest of the skill positions voted for and cemented (well, maybe not the WR position), it's time to get on with what could shape up to be the most intriguing debate we've had to this point: who makes our Best of the Bills Team as the starting running back?
The Bills are a team rich in history, tradition and production at the running back position, and two of the candidates listed below rank amongst the NFL's best all-time rushers. Here are your candidates; be sure to vote in the poll below:
Cookie Gilchrist ('62-'64): He only played in Buffalo for three seasons, but Cookie Gilchrist made them count. Splitting rushing duties with Wray Carlton, Gilchrist amassed 3,056 yards and scored 31 rushing touchdowns in his three seasons as a Bill. He also added 78 receptions for 875 yards and four more scores during that time period. Yesterday, Buffalo Rumblings readers and avid Buffalo Bills fans voted three wide receivers - Andre Reed, Eric Moulds and Elbert Dubenion - as starters on this community's "Best of the Bills Team". The three receivers join QB Jim Kelly as the four starters elected thus far.
A fifth starting player will be elected today, and this time, we'll be discussing a position that hasn't had a ton of success in team annals - tight end. Buffalo hasn't had many viable receiving threats at tight end in the team's history; that doesn't mean, however, that there aren't excellent candidates for our All-Star team. Rumblers, here are your three candidates for starting tight end - please vote for the tight end you'd like to make the team:
Ernie Warlick ('62-'65): His receiving stats weren't gaudy (90 career receptions, 1,551 yards, 4 touchdowns), but in just four professional seasons, Warlick made four Pro Bowl appearances. As is the case | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Yesterday, Buffalo Rumblings readers and avid Buffalo Bills fans emphatically - by a 96% to 4% vote split, in fact - voted Jim Kelly as the starting quarterback of this community's "Best of the Bills Team".
In what should be a bit more of a lively debate, we're going to settle the team's starting wide receivers today. There will be three starting receivers on this team, in homage to the Bills' K-Gun offense of the early '90s, which utilized three receivers more often than not.
In order to vote in three wideouts, we're going to vote players OFF this morning. So when you vote in the poll, choose the WR that you think doesn't belong on our Best of the Bills Team. I chose the following five nominees based on play (obviously), longevity with the Bills, and impact. Your candidates - and if you feel I've left someone out, let us know in the comments section:

Ever wondered what it would look like to see the best Buffalo Bills of all-time lined up on the same field? Ever salivated at the thought of a dual-threat running back tandem of O.J. Simpson and Thurman Thomas? Today, Buffalo Rumblings sets out to get those dreams as close to reality as possible.
Today, we're starting a series (inspired by the folks over at Big Blue View) called "Best of the Bills Team", in which Rumblings readers will vote into prominence a 27-man roster (22 starters, K/P, 3 specialists) of Buffalo's best players of all-time. The Bills have a rich history and have had plenty of outstanding players don the red, white and blue; it's time that this blog community properly honor those players that made us fans in the first place.

Last year, to help pass the time of the NFL's "dead season, " we had a feature every Friday until the start of the season called "Around The AFC East." It was a chance to talk about some of our divisional rivals and hear what their thoughts were about the upcoming season. From what I could tell from some comments and a few e-mails, it was rather popular.
Well it's back for 2008. Every Friday, each of the AFC East SB Nation sites will exchange questions and comments about carious topics. And though we don't have a Jets blog at the moment, we were lucky enough to get Brian Bassett from the premier Jets site on the net, The Jets Blog, to help us out.
So to get us started, let's talk Buffalo Bills. And to do that, we enlist the help of Brian Galliford from Buffalo Rumblings. Below is his response to my question. You can head over to his site to see my response to his Dolphins-related question.

| | A (Very Early) Look at Buffalo's 2008 Roster | | 2008-05-12 08:58:57 | |
What's more fun on a Monday morning in May - from a football perspective, at least - than attempting to predict which 53 players from your favorite team will be lining up in front of your eyes this coming fall? That's exactly what we'll do this morning. With position-by-position breakdowns of the Buffalo Bills' 2008 roster just around the corner, I thought it would be prudent to take a look at the overall picture first, then break it down in the coming days.
So this is how I see the 2008 roster shaking out. Keep in mind that in the grand scheme of things, this exercise means very little; it is a topic that should, at the very least, bring about some interesting philosophical discussions, however.
Here's the positional breakdown. We'll avoid doing this depth chart style for now since, ultimately, I was playing a numbers game here. (It's not hard to figure out the depth chart, however.) Feel free to offer your own alternatives, pick apart my ideas, | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

[Note by Brian Galliford, 05/10/08 9:48 AM EDT ] Curious to know more about the Buffalo Bills' 2008 opponents? Our very own kaisertown has done a wonderful job of breaking down the run defense aspects of every one of Buffalo's 2008 opponents. Take it away, kaiser. [End Note]
The media typically uses yards allowed per game to rank defenses. But those numbers are obviously flawed because they take into account a team’s ability to keep its defense off the field. Using yards per game will also mean a team’s run defense numbers will be altered by a team’s pass defense. I like yards per attempt. I don’t think it gives you an exact number for how well a defense defended the run or pass, but it is the most accurate statistic out there.

Stroud will be counted on as leader in '08 (Photo Source)
Leadership may be a bit of a cliche when it comes to discussing NFL rosters, but the fact of the matter is that good NFL teams have good leaders. Whether that leadership comes in the form of coaching, star quarterbacks or even punters, NFL rosters these days are so full of young players that it takes a certain type of leadership structure to get the most out of that inexperienced talent. Just look at how the leadership of the 2007 New York Giants milked outstanding play out of several rookies en route to their Super Bowl championship.
With one of the youngest rosters in the league, where does Buffalo's leadership come from? That's the question we'll attempt to answer this morning. Due to the youth of the roster, especially at key positions, Buffalo's roster leadership structure is slightly different than those of teams like the Patriots and Colts, who have natural leaders at the quarterback position.& | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| | Why McKelvin to Buffalo Makes Sense | | 2008-04-30 14:44:56 | |
Was McKelvin a "surprise" pick on draft day? (Photo Source)
Anybody who reads this blog on a regular basis knows that I was a receiver guy. When it came to the Buffalo Bills and our pre-draft preparations, I was dead set in my opinion: the Bills had to draft a wide receiver. Clearly, this past weekend, that did not come to fruition, as the team's top draft pick was not a receiver, but cornerback Leodis McKelvin. As disappointed as I was that the pick was not a wideout (note: that disappointment was quelled after our second-round pick), I saw the logic in the McKelvin selection. Good player, elite potential, and a position of need. Nothing wrong with that.
Yet there is still a contingent of Bills fans out there that believes the McKelvin selection was a poor one - and today, Anthony Bialy became their ringleader. This contingent is a small one, but some of their concerns deserve to be addressed this afternoon. Since Bialy is the ringleader - | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

Or maybe it was Oklahoma itself burning the bridge. Kelly ran a disappointing 4.68 second 40-yard dash on Wednesday, part of a workout that leaves the player's first-round prospects in serious doubts. Kelly's 32-inch vertical leap left something to be desired as well; though reports have indicated that Kelly looked solid in positional drills, the soon-to-be-rookie was less than thrilled with his performance. The problem is, Kelly didn't put the blame on himself. That was laid directly on the shoulders of his alma mater. The Buffalo Bills need a cornerback. The Buffalo Bills need a tight end, a center and a strong safety. We all understand what the Buffalo Bills are most likely to target heading into the 2008 NFL Draft. Yet we also know that in two years of drafting, the Bills have been known to pull some surprise selections. Safety Donte Whitner and quarterback Trent Edwards were among the most surprising selections that the team has made. So while I've been trying to prepare myself for the inevitable selection of a wide receiver with the Bills' first pick - a move I still feel strongly will occur in late April - the Buffalo Rumblings community, led by a vocal contingent of intelligent football fans, have been promoting what many deem an unlikely draft selection. With draft season approaching in full force, many fans of the Buffalo Bills have been discussing the possibility of their favorite team drafting a cornerback in the first round of the draft. With four cornerbacks (Leodis McKelvin, Mike Jenkins, Aqib Talib and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie) possibly representing the best value for the Bills when they choose at pick 11, such talk makes sense. When one takes a gander at Buffalo's roster, however, taking a cornerback doesn't make sense. The free agent addition of CB William James, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants, has plunged Buffalo into a three-way race for the starting right cornerback job opposite Terrence McGee. That gives the Bills four legitimate NFL cornerbacks, all with | | By: Buffalo Rumblings
| | Buffalo Rumblings Mock Draft, V3.0 | | 2008-03-30 00:00:29 | | Kelly to Buffalo in Version 3 of our mock draft (Athlon Sports) 'Tis the season to be mocking, Bills fans, and tomorrow SB Nation begins doing just that. If you're looking to find the coolest mock draft anywhere, be sure to tune in to Mocking the Draft, SB Nation's NFL Draft blog, tomorrow morning for the start of the second annual SB Nation NFL Mock Draft. Last season, I was fortunate enough to represent the Buffalo Bills in the first edition of the mock draft and used the opportunity to draft LB Patrick Willis, RB Antonio Pittman (ouch) and LB Quincy Black for the Bills. Two out of three isn't awful, right? This year, we'll clearly be making the Bills' selections again; stay tuned over the next week for Buffalo's selection. We'll have much more on the SBN NFL Mock in the month leading up to the draft. In the meantime, however, now is the time to unveil the third version of Buffalo Rumblings' Mock Draft. | | How Buffalo's Receiving Corps Measures Up | | 2008-03-29 09:11:36 | | Parrish part of weak receiving corps (BuffaloBills.com) As the NFL off-season chugs along toward the NFL Draft, it is becoming abundantly clear that as far as the Buffalo Bills go, wide receiver is the team's biggest need. The team is coming off of one of its worst passing offense performances in team history, it cut incumbent starter Peerless Price, and missed out on signing free agent (and current 49er) Bryant Johnson to be a starter. The result of this off-season to date? A position that was poor to begin with has actually gotten worse. Just how bad was Buffalo's receiving corps last season? Clearly, the fact that Buffalo only scored 20 offensive touchdowns - and 8 of them directly involved Marshawn Lynch - is a leading indicator of just how poorly this unit performed last season. But, as always, statistical comparisons show the real horror. Bottom Five Comparison In terms of receiving numbers, Buffalo's unit ranked #31 in the NFL last season, "outdone | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Where the buffalo are afraid to roam | | 2008-03-28 15:37:40 | | U.S. GOVERNMENT PLUNDER OF THE WEEK: FEDS SLAUGHTER OF WILD BISON BEATS 20th CENTURY RECORDSOver 1,000 wild buffalo have been slaughtered in the Yellowstone National Park area since November of 2007, representing the largest kill since the 1800s. "It would seem as though history was not learned the first time, for here we are today, watching these same government entities enacting the same policy," said Nez Perce tribal member James Holt. According to those monitoring the situation, namely the Buffalo Field Campaign, the total kill-off number will likely exceed 2,000 for the year. While the government's official reason for the slaughter is to prevent the spread of brucellosis from wild bison to cattle, no such transmission has ever been documented, and the bison being sent to slaughter are not being tested for the disease. This was a tight race, with Rivers picking up 41% of the vote and Leodis McKelvin getting 32% of the vote. Jeff Otah was third, with 10%. So here's how the last 5 picks have gone: New York Jets - Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St. (56%) New England Patriots - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tenn St. (32%) Baltimore Ravens - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU (41%) Cincinnati Bengals - Sedrick Ellis, DT, LSU (80%) New Orleans Saints - Keith Rivers, LB, USC (41%) To see the entire draft so far, click here. For clarity's sake, the only pieces I added to this body of work is the "Fit the Bill" section, and to further clarify, all of those appear in block quotes. Everything else is sireric's. Enjoy! In the upcoming NFL draft, it's a pretty good bet that the Buffalo Bills will draft a tight end. Incumbent starter Robert Royal, who is known as a solid blocker, is a shoo-in for the 2008 roster (sorry, Nick BensalemPA), but the rest of the depth chart consists of a plethora of good hands/bad blocker types. The Bills will be looking to add a "complete package" kind of tight end. They'll be looking for somebody who can stretch the field as a receiver, make the tough catch, be a solid red zone target, and still hol | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | RB Lynch an Evolving Star in Buffalo | | 2008-03-26 08:30:24 | | Lynch looks to build on solid rookie season (BuffaloBills.com) It's not often that an NFL rookie plays one season and is then considered the face of his franchise. That's exactly what happened with Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch, however. In a season when the Bills dealt with tragic injury, shuffled quarterbacks and missed the playoffs yet again, Lynch was the steadying force for a franchise still headed in the right direction. He's a hard-working, fun-loving guy, and his gritty, never-say-die running style has made him an instant fan favorite in blue collar Buffalo. Entering his second season in the league, the expectations for Lynch continue to grow. He'll once again be counted on as the centerpiece for offensive coordinator Turk Schonert's re-tooled scheme. He's expected to improve on his rookie season production, regardless of whether or not the team makes significant improvements around him offensively. | | Straying Outside of Buffalo This Morning | | 2008-03-25 07:33:20 | | Good morning, fellow Rumblers. I'll be out of town until this afternoon for a job interview! I promise you all that I'll have a much more interesting, Buffalo Bills-related discussion up later this evening; for now, I encourage you to visit any of the discussions we've had in recent days, especially our re-tooling of the needs list. We're still looking for input on that discussion as we revise our needs list heading into the draft. For now, as I stray a bit further away from Bills country today, I thought it would be prudent to take a quick look at what's happening outside of Buffalo in the NFL, as well - with a little help from three of SB Nation's finest football writers. Even though Fooch at Niners Nation is clearly distraught over Commissioner Roger Goodell's punishment for tampering against the 49ers, I have to applaud the efforts of the Commish on this one. I've enjoyed the cracking whip of Goodell's tenure so far, and think he's taken good strides to keep the game as ho | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Buffalo Rumblings Community Needs List: Retro | | 2008-03-24 07:33:49 | | Jauron, front office plug significant holes (BuffaloBills.com) It was nearly two full months ago (my, how time flies when you're talking football) that the Buffalo Rumblings community assembled our very own BR Community Needs List. We spent nearly a week analyzing the weaknesses of the Buffalo Bills, using that information to prioritize the needs of the team. The final list we put together was in-depth and thorough - and folks, we pretty much hit the nail on the head. Looking back on this list two months later, with free agency all but over and the Bills turning the majority of their attention to the draft, it's pretty safe to say that our consensus-based line of thinking was very close to what the fine folks at One Bills Drive were thinking. Here's the final list assembled, with commentary on how the landscape of each position has changed this off-season. You might be surprised at how accurate we were. 1. | | Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock: Rounds 4, 5 | | 2008-03-20 05:27:55 | | Why do I love this blog? Because no matter what project we're undertaking, Buffalo Bills fans far and wide can bring each other down a peg. We're all equals here, and y'all have proven that through the first three days of this week as we've unveiled the Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock. I applaud each and every one of you who have taken the time to share your thoughts on the Bills' roster over the past few days, and offer further applause to those of you who have taken the time to critique our mock selections intelligently. We encourage you to keep up the good work - we've had fun defending our selections (well, I've had fun reading your comments while on vacation, at least), and we're learning a lot as we plan to do a similar project much closer to draft day. The first three rounds are in the books. Discussions on those selections have been outstanding. | | | Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock: Round Three | | 2008-03-19 00:01:35 | | For the past two days, the four authors of Buffalo Rumblings - sireric, jri111, Kurupt and myself - have been playing the role of General Manager... err, COO... of the Buffalo Bills in presenting to you our Authors Mock Draft. As we expected when we first put this project together, reviews have been mixed; we applaud y'all for your excellent critiques of our work. We look forward to hearing what you have to say about today's installment - hopefully our most intriguing yet. In fact, I'll guarantee that one pick made today (that would be sireric's) will get y'all talking, whether it be about the player, the pick, or sireric's sanity. Here's how we chose in regards to Buffalo's third-round pick, number 71 overall: Brian Galliford's Pick 3-71. Tyvon Branch, CB, Connecticut. - Branch is a thickly built (5'11", 204 pounds) corner that's tough against the run and has superb straight-line speed (4.31 40). Debate, as usual, was heated in regards to the selections made; y'all had some very productive and enlightening discussions, however (yes, I'm still reading what y'all have to say from South Carolina). With the first round out of the way, here's how the four of us see the Buffalo Bills selecting in the second round of the Authors Mock: Brian Galliford's Pick 2-42. Jason Jones, DE, Eastern Michigan. - Probably the biggest sleeper pick amongst all defensive linemen in this year's draft. Jones has fantastic size (6'5", 273 pounds) and although he's still a bit raw, has the potential to fill the role that Anthony Hargrove filled for two seasons here. He's a guy who will take some time to develop, but his raw athleticism and talent is tremendous, and he's a smart kid with a killer work ethic to boot. | | Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock: Round One | | 2008-03-17 06:50:32 | | With more than two weeks fully elapsed since the start of the NFL's free agent signing period, the Buffalo Bills are hitting the home stretch in terms of veteran player additions. The team made an early splash in the period, adding plenty of help to their defensive front seven with the additions of defensive tackles Marcus Stroud and Spencer Johnson along with linebacker Kawika Mitchell. The team has since added tight end Courtney Anderson and is poised to make serious bids to add DE James Hall and CB William James as well. For the most part, however, we as Bills fans can now focus on the next big event - April's NFL Draft. With the Bills re-tooling their needs list (and our community following suit next week), the authors of Buffalo Rumblings - sireric, Kurupt, jri111 and myself - thought it would be prudent to bring to y'all what we're calling the Buffalo Rumblings Authors Mock. | | The Very Latest in Free Agency: Buffalo Style | | 2008-03-05 17:51:33 | | Over the past three days, five free agents have met with the Buffalo Bills. As of the time of this posting, none of those free agents have signed any dotted lines with the team. That's not necessarily bad news - there still seems like there's a good chance that any (most?) of these players could be members of the Bills by week's end. For organizational purposes and further discussion, here's the very latest that we know about those five players: Cardinals UFA WR Bryant Johnson: Clearly, this is the name that has been speculated about most. Johnson visited the Bills on Monday, where in an interview with the team claimed to have a visit scheduled with the Washington Redskins. The Redskins have since denied having a scheduled visit from Johnson. We have not heard anything for about 48 hours, other than ESPN's John Clayton reporting that the two sides were still negotiating as of this morning. The problem with getting Johnson (who wants to be a Bill) on board is the contract. Give | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

Like I said, it's officially the end of an era The Twin Towers of our defensive line are broken apart. Marcus Stroud is now a proud member of the Buffalo Bills and John Henderson is without a partner in crime. Marcus excelled with the Jaguars as a three time Pro-Bowler, but greatly declined into a shell of his former self in 2007. It's rumored that Marcus just wasn't going to return to his Pro-Bowl form, despite his reputation. Microfracture surgery is no sure thing and the powerful bull rush and aggressive approach of his previous seasons just wasn't there. What made Marcus Stroud so impressive as a lineman was for his massive size he was quick enough to get penetration and disrupt plays up the middle. Farewell old friend, till we see you again. It's Offical, the Jaguars have traded Defensive Tackle Marcus Stroud to the Buffalo Bills. In return, we received the Bills 3rd and 5th round picks. Buffalo had an extra pick in each round, so I'm not sure if we got the high ones or the low ones in each round. Buffalo has the 72nd and 73rd pick in the 3rd round and the 138th and 142nd pick in the 5th, so either one is close. Iit's a great deal. Jacksonville traded away the highest salary on the roster for the potential to move around in the draft. | | Buffalo Rumblings Mock Draft, V1.5 | | 2008-02-27 11:57:08 | | Way back on February 9, I, your humble narrator, attempted to prognosticate the NFL Draft a full two and a half months before it took place - not just for our beloved Buffalo Bills, but the whole kit and caboodle. Since that date, however, the NFL Combine has shaken up draft boards, and on a more community-related note, we've added three more authors. With the free agent signing period set to start at the stroke of midnight tomorrow night (or Friday morning, however you'd like to view it), it made sense for us to put together one last mock draft before player movement changes the entire outlook of the draft - just so we can say "man, were we off". So, over the past few days, Kurupt, sireric, jri111 and myself have been throwing together a two-round mock. The results weren't perfect, in our estimation, but they're certainly worth considering. Below is our Round One results; Round Two is beyond the jump for the purposes of preserving front-page space. We urge you to ask questions a | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| | With DT pool thinning, where can Buffalo turn? | | 2008-02-20 21:16:29 | | Will McCargo get a new running mate? (BuffaloBills.com) Tennessee has franchised Albert Haynesworth. The Packers followed suit this evening, tagging Corey Williams. With the Buffalo Bills searching for help at defensive tackle - and with the two "big names" off of the market - where can the Bills turn to find a run-stuffing complement to their current DT corps? There are a few avenues to explore - so I'll lay them out on the line, and y'all can decide what the best route to take is. Here we go: 1. Stick to Free Agency: Even with Haynesworth and Williams off the market, there are still some intriguing names to ponder. Titan Randy Starks is the most commonly referenced name, and even though he's drawn the ire of some Titan fans, he's still young and in the right environment could excel. There are also some intriguing veteran names (Atlanta's Rod Coleman, Seattle's Chuck Darby, and New Orleans' Brian Young are examples) that could give the Bills time to deve | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | What could Buffalo expect from a rookie WR? | | 2008-02-20 12:57:59 | | Moulds took time to develop (FOX Sports) [editor's note, by Brian Galliford] Author sireric takes a look at some recent Pro Bowl wideouts to try to figure out if the Buffalo Bills can reliably count on a rookie receiver this season. His argument is convincing, and one I couldn't have made more convincing myself. End Note Can you expect a wide receiver to give solid production in his rookie year? And what would you consider solid production for that matter? For the sake of argument I will say that a solid season (statistically) for a wide receiver will be: 50+ catches, 750+ yards, and 3 or more touchdowns. Those aren't superstar type numbers, but they do represent a solid season, particularly for a rookie. It has been my argument that taking a receiver in the draft, anywhere, not just the first round, and expecting that player to give you a solid season, similar to the one I described above, is foolish. While some agree with me, others argue that gi | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

| | Greg Olson Emerging as Coordinator Candidate in Buffalo | | 2008-01-08 07:37:27 | | Time to put the roster breakdowns on hold, folks. It seems to be speculation at this point, but it's smart speculation - Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News reports this morning that former Rams offensive coordinator Greg Olson is a rumored candidate to replace Steve Fairchild-Mularkey as Buffalo's offensive coordinator. "Former Rams coordinator"... sounds familiar, right? Olson was a candidate for Buffalo's offensive coordinator position back in 2006, after Dick Jauron had just been hired, and as he was assembling his first staff. Current Rams head coach Scott Linehan was a new coach at that point as well, and Olson - formerly the quarterbacks coach for Jauron in both Detroit and Chicago - took up the same post with St. Louis. Don't Panic While Olson's rumored candidacy doesn't provide us with the most thrilling name out there (he's no Cameron or Martz), he's qualified for the position. The obvious advantage here is portablity as the device will easily fit in your pocket.Another area where the Buffalo SHD-UHRS scores over existing external hard drives, is impact resistance due to the solid state memory. It has been impact resistance tested from a drop test at 2.5 meters.A hybrid memory design was used for the SHD-UHRS, which includes both SLC(Single Level Cell) and MLC(Multi Level Cell) technologies. | | The Giants Should Lose in Buffalo? | | 2007-12-18 18:45:00 | | I usually do my best to avoid sports talk radio. It is usually a haven for brainless nitwits who can run their mouths off about any sports subject. (Sounds like the Internet actually.)Yesterday was a rather dull day so I listened to a bit of "Mike and the Mad Dog" on WFAN. (I still love the nickname Don Imus once hung on them: "Fatso and Fruit Loops.") A big topic of discussion was the Giants upcoming games against Buffalo and New England. The Giants are still in a very good position to make the playoffs despite the loss to Washington last Sunday night. Francesa took the absolutely bizarre position that it might be better for the Giants if they actually lose to Buffalo this Sunday. He feels that a win against the Bills, which would clinch a Giants postseason berth, would make the final game against New England almost worthless, as the Giants might want to rest a number of their star players against the Patriots if there's very little to play for.But if the Giants fall to Buffalo, | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

Trent Edwards mounts a furious last-minute drive that gets to the Browns' 10 yard-line, but a screen pass on fourth down doesn't convert, and Buffalo's season is over. No playoffs. It was nice to see the team never gave up, but nonetheless, it's Buffalo's first shut-out since 2003. Let's get a couple of wins to close with a winning record, boys. Update [2007-12-16 15:48:10 by Brian Galliford]: We've reached the two-minute warning, and the second half stalemate continues. Cleveland has a 4th and 1 coming up, and the Bills are out of timeouts. What more can any football-loving American citizen ask for? Tons of delicious food, a couch (or other comfortable piece of furniture), and a mix of good football to watch (Packers at Lions) and boring football to sleep to (Jets at Cowboys, Colts at Falcons). It's one of America's great traditions, and I fully plan on indulging in it today - and so should you. Therefore, we'll put the Bills bashing on hold and enjoy this national holiday before getting back to business early tomorrow morning. A few "thanks" I'd like to pass out - first, to the brave men and women fighting for my right to pass out at the dinner table today, thank you. Second, to the Detroit Lions, for finally making the early Turkey Day game worth watching. Third, to our Buffalo Bills, for still being in the hunt at this juncture of the season; and fourth, to you all for taking the time each day to stop by Buffalo Rumblings. | | Trent Edwards Remains Starting QB in Buffalo | | 2007-10-24 00:04:36 | | Edwards to make first road start (BuffaloBills.com) After three starts and two wins, it was highly unlikely that Trent Edwards would be benched. That notion turned out to be extremely true, as the Bills' official site is reporting that Edwards will start at the Jets this coming Sunday. The rookie signal-caller, who this past Sunday picked up the biggest win of his career against a stellar Ravens defense, will make his first career road start this weekend. This story is breaking in the same fashion as it did last Tuesday: the decision has been made, but we must still wait until tomorrow's media address by Dick Jauron to hear anything about the finality of this decision. Is J.P. Losman still hobbled by his sprained knee? Is it yet again a one-week decision, or have the coaches decided to move forward on a permanent basis with this decision? I've said it before, and it bears repeating as often as it takes to see results: as long as this charade continues on a weekly basis, it will hurt this team in the long run. More importantly, it will hurt Edwards' development - if he performs poorly and he's pulled in favor of Losman, we're simply seeing a redux of exactly what happened to Losman here in Buffalo. Look how well that has turned out for Losman, whose predicament in Buffalo has been unfair essentially from Day One. So pay attention to Dick Jauron's comments tomorrow as he addresses the media about the decision. It's time for him to man up and declare a permanent starter. If he is non-committal about anything beyond the Jets game, you have my permission to yell and scream all you like in this thread - I'll probably be right there with you. Update [2007-10-23 19:18:48 by Brian Galliford]: Straight from Jauron's mouth (linked in the article above): "We are naming Trent Edwards as our starting quarterback. I have spoken with both Trent and J.P. Losman and want to get the word out to our fans." Hmm... is this, perhaps, what we've been waiting for? A permanent starter at the position? Feel free to speculate for now; we'll (hopefully) know officially tomorrow. Stay tuned... | | By: Buffalo Rumblings
| | QB Debate Rages On in Buffalo | | 2007-10-23 00:28:52 | | Does Edwards have support of coaches? (Courtesy: BuffaloBills.com) Another week and a second win are in the books for the Buffalo Bills after the team defeated the Ravens 19-14 at Ralph Wilson Stadium yesterday. There is a growing sense of confidence amongst the young team after three consecutive strong performances - even if all of those performances were played out in front of a home crowd. Yet despite the improved play we've witnessed in the last month, a storm cloud hovers over the Bills: who will play quarterback this week? This is a question that many Bills fans don't wish to answer on a week-to-week basis. With QB J.P. Losman fully healthy (and presumably rust-free), the question has resurfaced again - will the young leader and team captain be given the chance to re-claim his starting role, or will the coaching staff stick with rookie Trent Edwards, the starter in both victories? Each week the debate rages on, the Bills fan base continues to become more divided on the issue. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone has the Bills' best interests in mind. No matter which QB you're behind (or if you're neutral - bless you), what's getting lost in the shuffle is that there very likely isn't much debate going on in the mind of the one person whose opinion really matters here: Bills head coach Dick Jauron. If you're a betting man (or woman), pony up the bucks on Edwards - he's likely to start next week against the Jets, at the very least. Jauron's Style = Edwards' Style If there is one deciding factor in predicting the winner of this controversy, it's taking into consideration the coaching style of Dick Jauron. The coach is often described as conservative, calculating in looking for big plays, a great teacher and, from the negative perspective, a coach that "plays not to lose". With that in mind, take a look at the description of Edwards' performance yesterday by the Ravens blogger Rexx at Baltimore Beat Down: Quarterback Trent Edwards did just enough not to lose the game, and actually made a few big plays at key points to keep drives alive. Uncanny, right? Those words are literally a microcosm of the exact style of play Jauron has become known for. You may not like it, but the writing is on the wall: Losman has often been described as a "gunslinger" and is at his best when using his athleticism and strong arm to make plays down the field. There is a contingent of people, myself among them, who feel Losman would excel in a scheme that played to his strengths and allowed him to be a playmaker. A conservative, methodical approach is not, and never will be, Losman's style - and that's to his credit. You have to love a fearless QB like that. But, unfortunately, it probably places him a notch below the conservative, methodical Edwards in Jauron's mind. It is certain, beyond a shadow of a doubt, in my mind that J.P. Losman can be a successful quarterback for this Bills team. I'm also certain that the events of the past month (i.e. losing his job to injury) have been incredibly unfair to the young signal-caller, and I've long felt that he's the better quarterback right now between he and Edwards. But again, that's just my opinion - what really matters is Jauron's. Edwards and Jauron just seem too perfect a style marriage at this point to believe that the coach will insert Losman back into the lineup at any point in the near future. Whether you agree or disagree with naming a starter - at any position - based on your style of coaching, think about this: Jauron, for better or worse, has his beliefs, and they're instilled in the schemes this team runs. He's taken a lot of criticism for playing conservatively; what if the pile of losses he's endured have been because he hasn't had time to find the right players? There's a chance that Edwards is the QB that Jauron always envisioned building a team around; doesn't the coach deserve the chance to prove that he can (finally) win with his schemes, his conservatism and his quarterback? Again, a Plea Let's avoid naivety, folks - based on his status with the current regime, his style of play and his potential, it's a near certainty that Edwards will get the call from Jauron when he makes yet another QB announcement on Wednesday. My plea, once again, to Dick Jauron is this: make the decision permanent. Seriously: there is no longer a point to further playing out the "one week at a time" bit. The coaches have seen over a year of Losman, and have seen enough of Edwards over the past four games to know what to expect out of him as well. Both players are healthy, talented and players that the Bills can win football games with. This time, the decision has to be final. There's nothing more to wait for. The time is now to end this debate (at least internally) and move forward with the remaining 10 games on the schedule. So please, Coach Jauron. Name your starter, and name him permanently. End the charade - your job is difficult enough as it is. Please, for the sanity of Bills fans everywhere, make these next two days the last two days we'll have to talk about this. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens: Open Game Thread | | 2007-10-21 15:14:31 | | 19 vs 14 FINAL SCORE Breaking Down the Ravens :: Baltimore Beat Down Update [2007-10-21 17:42:25 by Brian Galliford]: Whew. Just whew. With visions of the Monday Night Meltdown running through the collective minds of those of us watching the game, the Bills were able to hold on to a 19-14 victory over the Ravens today. We'll break down the pros and cons of the win later on this evening; for now, enjoy it, Bills fans! Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to Me... It's game day, Bills fans! When the Bills and Ravens kick off at The Ralph in 5 hours, you're going to want a place to discuss the game, right? Well, here it is - use this thread to discuss the events of the game, whoop when the Bills score, agonize when the Ravens put up points and curse out Steve Fairchild-Mularkey ("SF-M"). This is your thread today, so have at it! Here's what you can expect to see in this game: Bills on Offense: Memo to SF-M - a conservative game plan is going to get your Bills blown out, Coach. Baltimore is going to stuff the run, come out with some elaborate blitz packages and try to make rookie QB Trent Edwards beat them. That means 4-5 yard dump-offs and nothing beyond 10 yards won't get the job done. However, since I'm a realist, I'm expecting to see just that, at least early - the Bills will try to run the ball against the league's 3rd-best run defense, move the chains efficiently and control the clock. They may have success - but it's a formula for the Ravens to get up early. If that happens, the pressure will mount on Edwards and he'll likely struggle for the rest of the day - he's not the type of QB to lead a team from behind. Bills on Defense: An improving Bills run defense will face its biggest challenge to date in attempting to shut down former teammate Willis McGahee, the league's fourth-leading rusher. McGahee may get a blocker or two back today, as three Ravens linemen - tackles Jonathan Ogden and Adam Terry and center Mike Flynn - are all questionable for the contest. If the Bills are able to at least contain McGahee, it will put some pressure on QB Kyle Boller. That's the best way to beat this offense. Baltimore is a team that turns the ball over in bunches, so forcing a couple today would really help the Bills' chances. Baltimore always places heavy emphasis on ball security, so getting turnovers won't be akin to stealing candy from a baby, but it is possible to make plays against the Ravens. If the D can create short fields for Edwards and the offense, our chances of victory skyrocket. Prediction: I have a gut feeling about this one. The Bills are coming off of a bye week and are getting healthier (LB Coy Wire returns today), and they have the capability of beating a Ravens team that, at 4-2, is a touch overrated. The Bills need to win the turnover battle, keep McGahee out of the paint and make a big play on special teams. If it's a close game, there will be a lot of pressure on K Rian Lindell. I'm expecting a close contest either way - but this Bills team is due for a big win. I think they'll get it. Final Score: Bills 16, Ravens 13. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | Week Six Picks: Buffalo Rumblings Style | | 2007-10-14 05:33:55 | | This is something I've been regretting for a while: not doing a community-wide weekly "Pick'Em" for all you readers who frequent the site. In light of not having much Bills-related to talk about for a couple of days, however, why not start this little tradition during the bye week? So it's on - every Saturday night, I'll throw up my weekly NFL picks, and anyone interested can make theirs as well. Or they can just publicly mock mine. I'll tally up the correct picks for anyone who leaves their selections, and we'll make a little competition out of it. Sound good? So, in light of this new little wrinkle at the site, here's how I see the Week Six NFL action shaking out over the next couple of days (picks made without taking spreads into account): Cincinnati over Kansas City - The game may be at Arrowhead, but there's no way Damon Huard out-duels Carson Palmer. Even if Huard is playing the atrocious Bengals defense. Jacksonville over Houston - Houston's had the Jaguars' number recently, but David Garrard is playing well and that Jacksonville defense is ridiculous. This should be a fun game to watch. Cleveland over Miami - Don't discount the winless Dolphins in this one - anything can happen when the Browns are involved. I just think Cleveland's offense is playing too well right now for Miami to win one on the road. Green Bay over Washington - I love the Redskins; I think they may actually be the second-best team in the NFC. But it's difficult to believe that Brett Favre will lose two straight at Lambeau Field. Baltimore over St. Louis - I'm very interested to see how the porous Rams' defense fares against the not-so-explosive Ravens offense. This should be a good primer for the Bills/Ravens tilt in Week 7. Chicago over Minnesota - Chicago is riding high after their comeback win in Green Bay on Sunday night. Just don't expect 20+ points from the Bears offense again; Minnesota's defense is very, very talented. NY Jets over Philadelphia - Call this one a hunch, but I think the better team loses in this game. The Eagles are rested and looking to rebound from a 3-point effort against the Giants; the only reason I'm picking the Jets here is a hunch. Seriously. Tampa Bay over Tennessee - Even at 3-1, I think the Titans are slightly overrated; they're good, but they're not that good. I'm going with the home team with more to prove this week in Tampa. Arizona over Carolina - The game is in Arizona, and the Cards have the advantage of having a really, really good offense with Kurt Warner at the helm. Carolina's hurting, and they're not as good as their 3 wins indicate. New England over Dallas - Obviously, everyone's talking about this game. Even after what happened Monday Night, I'm pulling for Dallas in this one, simply because I'm obligated to hate the Patriots at all times. I just can't pick against them in this one. San Diego over Oakland - Daunte Culpepper seems re-born in Silver and Black, but San Diego looks like they're back among the league's elite. LT should finally get the big game his fantasy owners have been looking for. Seattle over New Orleans - Poor New Orleans. They're 0-4, missing any semblance of a running game and now they get the chance to face a smarting, talented Seahawks defense on national television. Seattle should win this one handily. NY Giants over Atlanta - We all know that anything can happen on Monday Night, but the Giants are just playing good football right now, both offensively and defensively. Atlanta's got a tough one to win Monday Night. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
| | No Doubt About It: Losman Needs to Start in Buffalo | | 2007-10-10 15:11:29 | | Losman (top) may lose QB job to Edwards (Courtesy: BuffaloBills.com) We've been talking about it for two weeks - ever since rookie QB Trent Edwards led the Bills to their first win over the Jets - and we'll be talking about it for another two weeks, as the Bills have a bye this week. Will Edwards, with just two NFL starts under his belt, win the starting QB job, unseating young veteran J.P. Losman? That question, for the forseeable future, does not have a clear answer, as Bills head coach Dick Jauron has refused to commit to either quarterback until after the bye week. Until he makes that decision, the QB Debate will rage on. The problem is that, for Jauron, his decision really isn't that difficult: he needs to name J.P. Losman his starting quarterback. Emphasis on the word "needs". The Trent Edwards Perspective Let me preface this by saying that I am a Trent Edwards fan. In two starts, he's shown that he has what it takes to be a bona fide starter at this level. But that is all he's proven - he hasn't proven he's the long-term answer as this team's quarterback, and he has not proven he's a star in the making. He is very smart, very poised and pretty accurate - but that is all we know. The kid has a future. But is it time to say "The Future is Now"? There is a huge contingent of Bills fans who are screaming "Yes!" at their monitors right now, but I don't think it's necessarily true. Even if Edwards has supplanted Losman in the team's long-term plans, putting Losman back in the starting role won't inhibit Edwards' development at all. We can even use J.P. as an example of that here - in 2004, after being benched following a 1-3 start, Losman came in for the injured Kelly Holcomb at home against the Chiefs and threw two touchdowns in a 14-3 Bills win. Many attribute his time off the field that year as the reason he had success when he returned. The same would be true for Edwards - he has just as much to learn by returning to the sidelines as he does from continuing to play. Starting Losman Preserves Chemistry We all know the playing disparity between the two players: Losman played poorly in his two games, Edwards played relatively well in his three. But at this point, Edwards' playing role has purely been as a fill-in; a backup, if you will. As it stands right now, Edwards played because Losman was hurt. The fact that this controversy sprung up in that fashion makes this decision predominantly about one thing: team chemistry. The big question Jauron needs to ask himself is this: What kind of message am I sending my young, developing football team if I bench a guy after he was injured? Especially if that guy happens to be a team captain, and was voted into that position by his teammates? The answer, Coach, is that that message would be potentially devastating to this young team. For better or for worse, Losman is a leader on this team. He can't do his leading from the sidelines. Meanwhile, if Jauron chooses to sit Losman, we're left to entrust that leadership role to a rookie? A rookie who, despite his positive press, was still only able to muster 20 offensive points in his two starts? That, ladies and gentlemen, is a very poor notion. That message could set this team back another full year in their development. The Deciding Factor Let me be perfectly clear here: I am not endorsing Losman as the savior of this franchise. I have just as many qualms about his play as the Edwards backers out there. I think that both of these quarterbacks have the ability to be highly successful in this system. I think both players could be the answer, and I think there is a good chance both players could not be the answer. What it comes down to is this: there are 11 games yet to be played this season. If there were, say, 4 games left in the season, we might be having a different conversation here. But there are 11 games to play. It is still too early to give up on the 2007 season - just turn to the Monday Night performance as proof that this team can hang with anybody. Simply put, it is too early to commit to Edwards. If you sit Losman now, you've officially declared that you're done with him. If you sit Edwards, he's returning to his original role. See the difference here? Bills players know that, in reality, the starting job is still Losman's. That's why JP got a ringing endorsement from Lee Evans. Evans, Losman's offensive co-captain, is right: it's still J.P.'s job. You can say that Evans is a minority in this camp, but can you prove the opposite? The media would like to; they're coming up with hair-brained trade scenarios for Losman already. Be glad that Bob DiCesare is not the GM of this team, folks. To summarize: Starting Edwards would create a split in the locker room, damaging the psyche of an already fragile young football team. It would leave the rookie to pick up the pieces; it is incredibly unfair to ask a rookie quarterback to play well on the field and re-unify a locker room at the same time. Trent will not be hurt by a return to the sidelines, because he can continue his development process from there, with game experience under his belt. The only psyche that starting Losman would damage would be the fans'. So please, Coach Jauron. It's not a matter of preference, and it's not a matter of picking correctly now which quarterback is right for this team. It's simply a matter of logic, and logic dictates that, at least for now, J.P. Losman needs to be the starting quarterback of your Buffalo Bills. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

| | A Final Look At Week 1 -- Closing The Book On Buffalo | | 2007-09-11 22:12:39 | | Tuesday is traditionally an off day for players around the NFL, but not those of us here at the MHR. We'll use Tuesday to take one last look at the week that was before shifting full focus into the game at hand, which this week means that team in charcoal and gray. One thing we'll do each week is have some fun with numbers in regards to the Broncos. It's always fun to twist stats and bring up some little known statistical facts about the Broncos... Enjoy!!! Interesting Notes From The Buffalo Game -- TEAM --Sunday's game marked the second time in team history the Broncos had a 300-yard passer, a 100-yard receiver and a 100-yard rusher in a season-opening game (Cutler-304, Walker-119, Henry-139). The only previous occasion was Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 when Brian Griese (330), Rod Smith (115) and Terrell Davis (101) reached those marks in a season-opening win over the New York Giants, in the first game at INVESCO Field at Mile High. | | Buffalo's Role Players Need to Shine | | 2007-09-03 23:28:46 | | Parrish, others poised for big years (Courtesy: BuffaloBills.com) What makes a successful NFL team? If that question were easy to answer, there wouldn't be any suspense to a given NFL season. There isn't one correct answer, either. "Defense wins championships". "Run and stop the run". These are all mantras that gained repute for a reason - they've worked. You might hear good coaching, a franchise quarterback or others topping the list. My theory is slightly different. Good teams don't necessarily have good head coaches - the Jets are a good example, where they made the playoffs more than once with Herm Edwards "leading" the way. (For the record, I like Herm, but I think he's a tad overrated.) Last I checked, Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl in Baltimore, so scratch the QB debate. And you cannot possibly make the argument that the Colts' defense won them the championship last season. None of those theories occur consistently enough to be 100% true. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |
