| We Eat 38 Billion Burgers - Let's Make Them Healthy | | 2008-07-24 01:13:00 | | Is the cheeseburger our national dish? We order more than 13 billion burgers in restaurants and make another 25 billion at home, according to NPD research group. Looks like burgers are ranked up there with Mom and Apple Pie.Is there a way to have a healthy cheeseburger? I know I'm hesitant to eat burgers at a restaurant namely because of the food recalls this year; beef e-coli recalls, tomato or peppers, and even cheese recalls. How do I know if they are cooking the meat long enough to supposedly kill bacteria? How do they keep their produce, is it away from meat, properly stored? Where do they get their food? There is a healthy cheeseburger that is not a fast food burger but fast to prepare. And you won't get 1,130 calories like if you eat the Big Mac meal. This recipe was created for Kim Klaver by her nutritionist, Dr. Heidi Dulay. Kim doesn't digest meat easily, and she's a Carbo Type (light appetite). But she craves a burger or filet mignon a couple of times a month, probably because... | | By: Whole Food And More | | |

| | BBQ Season is Here! Part 1 - Burgers | | 2007-05-02 23:48:00 | | In America men tend to do the grilling. Growing up this was never the case in my house. Mom's explanation was that Dad would get talking and forget about the food, so Mom became quite the accomplished griller! In our house the husband tends to take responsibility for the actual grilling of the food, whereas I would prepare it and any side dishes.

| Pike and Fish Burgers | | 2007-04-25 10:27:00 | | My grandmother (my father´s mother) was born 1883. Her name was Elin; a housewife, who took care of the children. In the past, entire generations of a family would live together in a big house and so did my family. My father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, my younger sister and I. We all lived under the same roof. This is one of my grandmother´s recipes. It originated during the 1930's or perhaps earlier. I found it in one of her cookbooks from that time. This recipe does make a lot of burgers, but they freeze well once cooked. Allow them to cool, then wrap individually in plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag.INGREDIENTS:60-65 burgers* 8 hg (800 g) pike fillets* 5 hg (500 g) minced meat (or lean beef mince, mixed half-and-half with pork mince)* 4 eggs* 6-8 cooked, cold potatoes* 1 ½ tablespoon salt* 1 teaspoon pepper* oil and butterMETHOD:1. Pass fish fillets, potatoes and meat through a meat grinder to obtain a homogenous mixture.2. Add the other ingredients and mix everythin... | | By: My Recipes | | |
| | Pork Burgers | | 2006-01-02 16:17:00 | | Here's a recipe that I created last week when I wanted to make burgers for dinner but realized I only had ground pork in the refrigerator. After gathering the ingredients I had on hand, these burgers turned out great. My husband and I couldn't wait to have them again the next night. Let me know what you think if you get a chance to make them (I apologize in advance if some of the measurements aren't exact, sometimes I tend to just throw things together and realize after that I should have made a note of the amounts used).1 lb. Ground Pork1 garlic clove chopped1 tbsp. water1/4 cup or less honey dijon mustard2 tbsp. chili sauce1/2 tsp ground pepper1/2 tsp ground thyme1/4 tsp poultry seasoning1-2 slices of swiss cheese cut into small squares1-2 tbsp. fresh chopped parsley2-3 tbsp. grated cheese (ex. I used parmigiano regiano)Combine all ingredients in a medium sized mixing bowl (I use my Tupperware Thatsa Bowl), if the mixture is still a little dry to form into patties, you can add in more mustard or chile sauce to your liking. Press down mixture evenly in bottom of bowl and divide into 4 equal sections. Form each section into a firm ball and then flatten and shape into a patty. Place each burger onto a skillet coated with olive oil. Cook until no longer pink.Tastes great when served on slices of organic artisan bread (I used a multi grain loaf). Much better than traditional burger buns since most of the ones I've seen tend to contain high fructose corn syrup, preservatives to retain spoilage, and worse.... | | By: Best In Food | | |
