    Game Review: Burnout Paradise
    2008-05-16 02:06:00
Developer: Criterion GamesPublisher: Electronic ArtsConsole: Xbox 360/PC/PS3Release Date: January 2008The GoodParadise City is gorgeous. Plenty of traffic, building variety, a lake, sea shore, country side, and countless off-road shortcuts. No loading while driving around. Paradise City is huge, and as you’re driving to a new area the game loads without you ever noticing it, except for a little icon at the top left corner. There is loading before and after each event, but it’s not terrible.Marked Man events. You must go from point A to point B, but there will be 3 or 4 black cars out to get you. They will try to make you crash enough times to the point where your car won’t be able to race, and you will lose. These guys mean business.Road Rage, my favorite event, is back. Opponents seem a little easier to take down this time around, but as you get new licenses the takedown score to beat becomes pretty high.Online races are a lot of fun. You can also complete online-only challenges

    Burnout Challenge!
    2008-05-15 17:27:27
Five drivers -- Johnson, Harvick, Greg Biffle, Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch -- will compete in the inaugural Pennzoil Burnout Challenge, which will be held at Lowe's Motor Speedway before the qualifying event for the Sprint All-Star Race. In similarly prepared Richard Petty Driving Experience cars repainted in all-star colors, drivers will have to perform a full, drag-racing style burnout between two designated points followed by 360-degree spins. The winner will earn $10,000 for his preferred charity.Humpy Wheeler, president and general manager of the Charlotte track, sees the burnout contest as a skills challenge comparable to those surrounding other all-star events, such as the slam dunk contest in basketball or the home run derby in baseball. But drivers just seem to dig the idea of burning out in a car that's not their own."It's fun to do burnouts," said Biffle, a 12-time race winner on NASCAR's premier circuit. "I think I do a pretty good burnout, but it's a matter of the tire hol

    Homeschool burnout
    2008-03-23 18:57:48
When a parent takes on the responsibility of educating his or her child, homeschool burnout is one of the more common issues they have to deal with. There are many reasons that lead to this burnout: an illness, a new baby, added responsibility, change in routine etc.The symptoms of burnout vary from lack of patience to overeating and crying without any apparent reasons. Surprisingly, a burnout need not be such a bad thing. It is a wake-up call - an indicator that things are not going well and th

    Burnout Paradise
    2008-01-14 06:48:54
Speed is an essential quality in driving games. Without it, you might as well be taking a Sunday drive in the family Yugo. However, with the Burnout series, developer Criterion Games has added another ingredient that has become just as important as eye-bleeding speed: crashes. The Burnout series has set new standards for snarling, metal-bending, [...]

    Game Preview: Burnout Paradise
    2007-12-20 20:12:00
The Burnout Paradise demo has been available for download on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network for a while now, and as a fan of the series for many years I thought I’d go ahead and write my thoughts on it.The main feature in Paradise is that the game is no longer linear. You are free to roam around Paradise City and choose which challenges to participate in. I wasn’t sure this was going to work, but playing is believing. The demo only allows you to race on two events and do a single stunt run, but what’s there is exciting enough to make me want to own it when it’s released next month. Oh, and the graphics are sick! Expect a full review early next year.

    MMORPG Burnout
    2007-10-04 13:34:00
Why is it that it seems like every few months, sometimes less time than that, whatever current MMO I'm playing seems to get boring to me? Is there some facet that is missing in current MMO titles that lead to the burnout? Let's examine some common factors in many of today's MMO titles that might possibly influence burnout. The Grind I think this might be a major contributing factor. Most MMO's out there these days are all built around the concept of a character earning experience and slowly building in power. This is a decent concept and I imagine starting with a really powerful character would be much more boring than building a character's power level over time. But I really think other areas should be explored in character advancement. Perhaps a more skill based system, wherein using the skill garnered more expertise in the skill. (Much like the old LPMud system, if anyone remembers MUD's these days.) It seems that shortly after it gets to be more of a grind to earn XP than a natural course of events is shortly before I'm tired of the MMO. Crafting I like crafting in most MMO's as long as it provides clear benefits to the character or, at the very least, monetary rewards for doing so. I've seen a few MMO's get this really right. Everquest II does a good job of it, to a certain extent. There are quests related to starting up a crafting profession, but shortly after that, it becomes grinding again, since you really can't do much with the items you make to skill up and there are no real rewards for making those items. Vanguard incorporated a good system to avoid the worthless item crafting that occurs in most MMO's for increasing skill, but their crafting system was quite cumbersome, really. I think this is an area where it would do good to review the crafting system in Star Wars Galaxies for most games to provide a template for interesting crafting. Unfortunately, other aspects of that game contributed heavily to burnout. Grouping This is a big factor, I think. It seems recently, most other players I've encountered in MMO's are brainless twits. Maybe I appear the same to others or maybe I've just grouped with only children lately, I'm not sure. It definitely gets frustrating though when you attempt to accomplish something in a group and most of the group won't stop sending garbage and trite comments across group chat or won't stop bouncing around each other long enough to actually find out what the plans are. I don't know how to correct this, but the first MMO that comes out with an enforced age restriction, I'm signing up for immediately, I don't care if the premise of the game is competitive crocheting. Quests Where do I start? I understand games should have goals, but what happened to storylines? True, some quests that appear in MMO's do sort of make up a storyline, but for the most part, it's just kill x this and gather y that. This may be one of the most important contributing factors to burnout. If real deep and thought provoking storylines could be better incorporated into quest systems, the likelihood of that feeling of doing the same thing over and over again would surely diminish. Am I the only one seeing these trends in MMO's, especially as of late? Technorati Tags: MMORPG, burnout Yuwie.com | invite friends. hang out. get paid.
