    Burress, Giants nearing deal?
    2008-08-06 08:02:27
It appears that the last remaining off-the-field issue confronting the Giants -- Plaxico Burress' contract -- could soon be taken care of. That, of course, is great news. A happy Burress is a key to the Giants offense. Of course, they also have to get him healthy and get him on the field. In that same notebook, Ralph Vacchiano mentions that Brandon London has joined the list of injured wide receivers. Vacchiano notes that the Giants have more injured receivers than healthy ones heading into Thursday's exhibition opener in Detroit. Mike Garafolo notes that the exhibition season opens just in time, since the Giants look like a team tired of practicing against each other. Here are some notes about various Giants' rookies as the first exhibition game approaches. Mario Manningham is finding learning an NFL playbook to be a challenge, especially after playing in a very simplistic offense at Michigan. Insert your own Wunderlic Test joke here. Terrell Thomas is finding out that 'combine sh...

    2008-08-01 12:42:08
Sources say that talks between Giants WR Plaxico Burress and the team are going nowhere, and the situation is not going to get resolved anytime soon. The Newark Star-Ledger reports that while talks are ongoing, the sides may soon break off talks becuase of the lack of progress between Burress’ agent Drew Rosenhaus and the [...]...

    Optimism from Burress
    2008-06-19 06:00:01
In case you missed it, there was some good news reported yesterday on the Plaxico Burress contract situation. Burress sounded optimistic, and not bitter at all, about getting a deal done soon with the Giants. "Honestly, I think my situation is going to be rectified before training camp," Burress said. "I'm not going to worry about it, but I did state that I was unhappy with my current situation with my contract. It'll be worked out." Burress made it clear he is happy as a Giant. "I don't want to go anywhere. I made that very evident," Burress said. "If I wanted to go somewhere else or if I didn't want to be there, I would have let that be known, too. I'm going to come out and speak how I feel and tell you what's right. But as far as me, I'm very happy where I'm at. I love the situation I'm in, I love the guys I play with, I love the city and I just love everything about me playing football up there. I just want to end my career there. I don't want to travel all around the globe t...

Burress Refuses to Practice at Giants Camp; Demanding New Deal
    2008-06-11 20:27:40
Distractions usually follow a team after success, and for the Super Bowl champion Giants, that distraction started today at the teams camp.  Star wide out Plaxico Burress, who caught the game winning TD in the Super Bowl, has stated that he will not practice during the teams mandatory minicamp because he wants a new deal [...]...

Should the Giants sit Burress for a couple of weeks?
    2007-12-04 07:23:15
The Giants can clinch a playoff berth this weekend against Philadelphia. Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News lays out all the scenarios. Here is a question for you, and I know I am getting a little ahead of myself here. You're Tom Coughlin. If and when you do clinch a playoff berth, do you shut Plaxico Burress down until the first playoff game and see if you can get his injured ankle healthier for the playoffs? It's an interesting decision. Burress, even on one healthy leg, is still obviously the Giants best playmaker at receiver. He leads the Giants with 55 receptions and 9 TDs and is still the guy Eli Manning would prefer to throw to whenever possible. No other Giants receiver has more than 3 TDs. Jeremy Shockey has 54 catches, but it's been obvious for weeks that he and Manning are just not on the same page. In a key spot, do you really have faith that the Giants can call Shockey's number and that he and Manning can make something happen? I love Shockey, but to me the...

Burress' status? Only Plaxico knows for sure
    2007-09-27 19:31:25
Over on Bleeding Green Nationthere is speculation that Plaxico Burress might not play for the Giants Sunday. Hopefully, that is just wishful thinking. Burress has, of course, been dealing with an ankle injury that has been keeping him off the practice field. He did have the ankle evaluated by a specialist this week, but teammates are expecting Burress to be on the field Sunday night. Here's what Antonio Pierce told NFL.com about Burress. "Plax, we call him 'Game Day,"' Pierce said. "On game day he shows up regardless of what anyone wants to say about him during the week. The guy has been in the league long enough, eight years, and he knows how to take care of himself." I guess we'll find out Sunday night. ...

Big surprise -- Burress skips first day of OTAs
    2007-05-30 21:13:24
So much for his new, mature attitude. The Giants held their first off-season Organized Team Activity today, and Plaxico Burress was among the no-shows, according to Ernie Palladino of the Journal News. Jeremy Shockey, of course, was also missing, as were Michael Strahan and Jim Finn. This apparently didn't sit too well with Coach Tom Coughlin or quarterback Eli Manning. You make the best out of it," said Manning. "Whoever comes to practice, I'll try to get the best out of them." I know that Burress and Shockey will be productive players regardless of whether they show up for the OTAs or not. It still bugs me, though, that they can't show any respect for their quarterback -- who obviously wants them in town to work with him. Your thoughts? ...

Burress shows up, shows some maturity
    2007-05-09 14:03:26
Quarterback Eli Manning begin throwing to receivers Monday, and the Giants have to be thrilled that one of the targets catching his tosses was wide receiver Plaxico Burress. Burress has historically skipped these 'optional' workouts, preferring to stay in Florida and work out at the University of Miami. The Giants, however, have to have grown tired of miscommunications between Manning and his primary targets, Burress and Jeremy Shockey. Burress, at least, seems to have found the maturity to realize those things aren't going to improve until he puts in the time working with Manning. Here is part of Ernie Palladino's report on Burress' presence, taken from his Giants Journal. "I'm not trying to make a statement," Burress said. "I want us to be better, and I want him to reach his full potential, which I think would be great. I want to help him out. We're here, we're willing to work." He might have a selfish reason, too. Despite 10 receiving touchdowns last ye...
