    Work At Singapore Call Centers?
    2008-03-18 11:41:00
For sometime now, I've dismissed this idea of working for call centers in the first world country of Singapore. I've already heard stories. I've seen ads in the newspapers. I've heard news about friends of friends already working in Singapore as call center employees. For one thing, I just thought it was a scam. One needed a work permit to even apply for a call center job in Singapore. This I found true at most job posting in Jobstreet Singapore.Secondly, Singapore's high standard of living will suck most of your earning in that place no matter how high your salary offer was. Essentially negating the lure of earning big money because the cost of living is much too high.Today, I chatted with an old call center batch mate. We never really were close but we knew each other enough to entice me to connect with him even if it was just to say hi and ask him how he was. To my surprise, he says he is now working at HSBC call center in Singapore! We parted ways 5 years ago. He worked for the HSBC...

    Philippine Call Centers Gossip Column
    2008-01-06 13:00:00
Notice the spanking new banner I've put on top? A little distracting maybe but I tell you it's worth the distraction. Techgoss.com is a BPO news company that approached me to promote its website. Interestingly enough, they've hired a Filipino call center insider to write about current news and gossip in our local call center industry.I've read a couple of columns this guy called Juan Dela Cruz wrote so far and this dude has got some revealing information about your favorite and not-so-favorite call center companies here in the Philippines. To tell you honestly, I think this guy knows more than I do so it's worth a look. Check them out now by clicking on the banner. Ciao! ...

What's New In Philippine Call Centers In 2008?
    2008-01-01 09:57:00
I won't do a recap of 2007 as I feel it is too retrospective. I'd rather be forward-thinking. So this post is about the things I know that will happen in 2008. I'm writing this piece so people can get a glimpse what it can be like in 2008, what to expect and which call centers are going to be nice to work for next year and which ones I think will be better to leave as soon as possible! LOLLet me name a few call centers that I think will make headlines in 2008.1. Genpact - This company, aside from being one of the most admired BPO's in the world, will definitely be more successful in 2008. With them landing the Wachovia business alone, they are in an excellent position to make 2008 the best year since their inception. You can already see indications of future success at Genpact. They've got a cool new building in Alabang and they pay employees with above industry salary. Genpact seems like a cool sturdy wall employees can lean on. Success in the Wachovia account will definitely bri...

Move Over Call Centers/BPO! Here's The New Sunshine Industry!
    2007-10-24 22:33:25
I knew it all along! But it took somebody else to write about it first but I had the same idea. There's a new challenge to the call centers domination as a premier industry that provides excellent opportunities. The industry is much more lucrative because it offers an alternative and pays A LOT better than working for call centers. It's been around but most people hardly notice it. Sirit? The work is called Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing. As per wikipedia, Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic for a website through natural or "organic" search results. While Search Engine Marketing is a form of Internet Marketing that seeks to promote websites by increasing their visibility in the search engine results pages. A lot of technical things that don't make sense to the unopened minds I'd have to admit but it's really simple! People who own websites and sell their products on the web are crazy about these! Why? Because being visible on Google and more importantly ranking higher in the search index usually means more SALES! ( or at least more people to see what they got to sell ). But "why is it important"? people may ask. Let me set an example. For a normal person who is very eager to buy something and looks to the internet to find information about that something, he will naturally look it up using Google or Yahoo. For a normal person once he types in that something and clicks on seach, he will click on the first search result on Google's index. He will browse around that website and if he loves it enough, he will buy it on the spot without looking any further. Ka-ching! for the website owner! Now multiply that searcher/buyer in ten of millions times ---> You got a website owner become an internet mogul! It is no wonder why business people use websites to market their products! Gone are the usual stores or offices to show their wares. Internet Sales is a multi-billion dollar industry. BUT whether their business is Online or Off-line, the same business principle is still followed.... That is "location... location... Location!" For those business people owning stores, it is prime LOCATION that they are willing to pay top dollars for. In the case of internet business people, it is TOP location in the search engines they are willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for.Now for those Filipinos who are into this SEO and SEM stuff, this means thousands of dollars in earnings if they are successfully hired to "optimize" a website owners site. I'm not kidding! I know some Pinoys who are quietly making their fortune through these stuff! In fact, I'm into SEO and SEM myself! I started blogging about the Olympics as a way to capture the huge internet search traffic that the 2008 Olympics will generate for next year! But what's in it for me people may ask? Making money ofcourse! When people visting my Olympics Blog click on the ads I have all over my blog, I earn some money. Every time someone signs-up through my referral ads in my blog, I earn some money. Every time, I write a review for a website or blog, I earn some money. When people buy Olympics stuff I advertise on my blog, I earn some money. Even when people watch celebrity news videos I have on the bottom of my blog, I earn some money! There's a lot of ways of earning extra cash in blogging. In these past few days alone, I have earned 40 dollars just by writing reviews. The best part about it is it only took me a total of 3 hours to do it. Really easy!Even with the limited SEO knowledge I have, I'm expecting huge traffic for next year. That's because I have high search engine rankings for some good keywords. For example, if people search for the term Olympic Blogger in any search engine, my blog comes on top. It's the same if other people search for best Olympic blog or top Olympic blog, my blog is always on top of the rankings. There are other search terms that my Olympics blog ranks high, but I'll keep that for myself for now because a lot of people have already jumped on the bandwagon and started blogging about the Olympics to profit. In other words, I don't want my competition knowing my strategies.Admittedly, I'm just a novice in this business compared to the pros I know. But I found a niche that I know has great promise. It's big business for the SEO and SEM people in the Philippines. Too bad there's only a few who actually have SEO and SEM knowledge.Check out this article about SEO/SEM beating the call center industry in the Philippines soon. ...

The Dark Future Of Call Centers In The Philippines
    2007-09-20 11:07:44
If one may think of the call center being around for decades more, think again! The worst case scenario is already starting to happen. As I read one the alerts I set up on my email address for Google to bring me "call center news" anywhere, it troubled me to find out that there might be a movement to bring back outsourced jobs to the US job market. There's a lot of reasons why this movement might gain ground and support from the U.S.A. which is the main source of outsourced jobs in the world. For one, Americans are a patriotic bunch. When sector of their society is continually being repressed, it only takes one sharp tongued media personality, celebrity, politician or advocacy group to rally a huge majority of their citizenry to support bringing back jobs to the U.S. mainland.Good news for them, bad news for outsourcing for us which is just beginning to mature in the Philippines. The way I see this might be happening going to be out of our hands. Something we cannot fight. Why? Because it will not be a question of call quality or cost-effectiveness or for redundancy anymore. It is going to be a matter of job security for the American people. If there is enough people in the U.S. that would notice that outsourcing countries like India and the Philippines are taking away some people's livelihood and if this gains enough support, no matter how good we are at the things we do in our jobs, we are still going to lose the battle of keeping call centers here in the country. Think in the lines of how the support for the withdrawal of troops in Iraq has finally succeeded recently. Even the President buckled in to clamor to bring home their troops stationed in Iraq. For outsourcing it's going to be a different fight. The end of the call center industry will begin if we see ads from companies that the support "keeping jobs for the Americans" or start to brand their company as "US-labor market friendly". Not the best slogan from me but I hope you get the idea. Nevertheless, I'm pretty sure the Americans would not mind paying a little bit more as long as they know by doing so they are helping their own people keep the jobs they need to support their families. That's the clincher for us.It might not be a total loss for us here in the call centers. But if this scenario happens, even if the call centers don't totally withdraw for their operations in the Philippines, there would still be effects on our jobs here. For example, jobs availability would be less and more competitive. Also there's always a possibility of lay-off for current call center employees. Salaries and salary offers would not be as competitive as it is now. There's always that economic effects for the country if this sunshine industry suddenly comes to a halt.A very bleak future indeed. But one that has not happened yet. Hopefully we don't head on to that direction. Here the news article that got me thinking of this possibility:AT&T brings Outsourced jobs to the U.S Arkansas Call CenterI apologize for not being able to update this call center blog daily. I'm currently preoccupied with my second blog The Olympic Blogger recently. I will however try to update and post once a week for our call center readers. Please support my second blog below! ...

    2007-05-29 06:13:04
MANILA, Philippines — In a recent public disclosure of the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA), the Philippines diverted over 500,000 foreign visitors to other destinations in 2006 due to lack of accommodation facilities in most of the key tourists spots in the country. This resulted to income loss amounting to about US$400 million due to [...]...
