| Israelis rediscover the joys of camping | | 2008-08-21 17:34:00 | | The Sharabi, Cohen, and Almogi clans have finished eating their pancakes and begun straightening up their tents, which are pitched in one of the authorized campgrounds along Lake Kinneret. Nearby, at the camp site of a group of families from Moshav Eitan in the Lachish region, the parents have pampered their children with spinach patties, as requested. "It's an inexpensive and real vacation like old times," Limor Sharabi says on his way to swim.Israelis seem to have "rediscovered" camping. Families, couples and groups of young people are increasingly forgoing vacations in Eilat or Turkey, grabbing a tent, charcoal grill and the kids, and heading for one of the campgrounds located throughout the country. The hobby is not yet as developed as in other Western countries, but it is certainly gaining momentum.Avi Cohen of Moshav Eitan takes his family on an annual camping trip to the Kinneret. | | Camping with FBT 2008: where do Jags stand in key areas of focus? | | 2008-08-08 07:47:48 | | Training camp is quickly coming to an end with practices closed to the public. The Jacksonville Jaguars will now begin to shift their focus to preparing for the 2008 campaign.
This year, they are not only carrying the burden of being considered one of the top teams in the talent rich AFC, but they are also fighting for their playoff lives in what could be considered to be the best division in the NFL. Success or failure could be determined by one win or loss.
For a team that is regularly mentioned among those with a legitimate chance of making the short trip to Tampa to play in the Super Bowl in February, there is a great deal of anticipation for things to come.
After spending the majority of the past week attending training camp and watching the 2008 iteration of the Jaguars going through the process, it is clear to see that this is a team that is poised and ready to take on the challenge ahead. | Camping with FBT: 8/5/08 p.m. camp report | | 2008-08-05 22:11:14 | | The conclusion of what had to be the least taxing training camp in franchise history was certainly a fitting end. With the heat and humidity still hovering heavily over the practice grounds for the evening session, the Jaguars took the field in full pads.
The list of players that were not participating this evening was the longest of training camp. The non-participants included Chad Nkang, Jeremy Mincey, George Wrighster, Reggie Williams, Brad Meester, Clint Ingram, Jerry Porter, Derek Landri (right knee), Troy Williamson (groin), and Clyde Edwards. Reggie Hayward was dressed out and participated in individual drills, but then stuck to the sideline for the remainder of practice.
The practice was pretty much a non-event compared to the session last night. The Jaguars were in full pads, but the only contact drills were toward the very end of practice when they went to red zone drills in the final 11 x 11 round of the evening.

| | Camping with FBT: 8/4 p.m. camp report | | 2008-08-04 22:37:44 | | With the public sessions of camp winding down to the final few, the Jaguars have been adding new wrinkles to the practices in an effort to continue to adding layers to their play book.
The team took the field shelled tonight, but contact was still kept to an absolute minimum. The humidity was up a bit, and the practice was a little bit more spirited than we have seen in recent days, with the blitz packages and defensive schemes becoming more complex and aggressive as they prepare for the upcoming pre-season game against Atlanta.
The players that did not participate in practice tonight included the usual list of suspects: Chad Nkang, Jeremy Mincey, George Wrighster, Jerry Porter, Reggie Williams, Derrick Harvey, and Brad Meester.
Porter did some running and stretching exercises before heading back to the locker room. Meester was in a sling, and appeared to be in pretty good spirits, agreeing to talk to the press after practice tonight. Reggie Hayward did no | | By: Big Cat Country - An Unoffical Jacksonville Jaguar
| | Camping with FBT: 8/1/08 p.m. scrimmage report | | 2008-08-01 23:23:45 | | The Jaguars took the field inside the friendly confines of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium tonight before a crowd of 12,109 eager fans wanting to get their first glimpse of the 2008 Jacksonville Jaguars in a scrimmage environment.
Most people came expecting to see a scrimmage similar to years past, but Jack Del Rio decided to shuffle things up a bit, changing the format from what had been done previously. Instead of a scrimmage, the fans were treated to the garden variety practice inside the stadium. There was no scoring, no real hitting, and a lot of fun for football fans.
The atmosphere inside the stadium was terrific. There was a new stadium announcer. Hopefully he is only a temporary patch as he is even worse than the regular guy.
It takes a lot to achieve that, but when the announcer actually refers to the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars as David Jerrard, you know that there might be a slight problem in the booth.

| Camping with FBT: 8/1/08 a.m. camp report | | 2008-08-01 13:02:59 | | The practice this morning was a very light session lasting about an hour. The players were in baseball caps, shorts, and shirts, so any expectation of real action was tossed out the window the minute they walked out of the stadium.
The players that did not participate in the drills this morning included Jerry Porter (on sideline with the bulky ice bags in tow), Jeremy Mincey, George Wrighster, Chad Nkang, Brad Meester, Reggie Williams, and Derrick Harvey.
The one interesting thing to note is that the rookie barbershop was open for business, and several of the newbies on the roster were sporting new hairstyles as they took part in practice. Some were more creative than others, but all were rather entertaining.
Quentin Groves had one of the more unique styles. Someone took the time to cut a spiral in his hair that encompassed his entire head.
Theo Horrocks was also given a pretty special cut, having rings shaved around the circumference of his noggin.& | | By: Big Cat Country - An Unoffical Jacksonville Jaguar

| | Camping with FBT: 7/29/08 pm camp report | | 2008-07-29 22:33:57 | | It rained most of the afternoon at the stadium. The clouds began to part around the time that the Jaguars were making their way out to the field for the second practice of the day. Conditions on the field were certainly a concern because of the weather, particularly on the field turf where any rain can create quite a slick surface. The field did not disappoint in that regard.
The team was back on the field in full pads. The players that did not participate in the evening session included Jerry Porter, Brad Meester, Jeremy Mincey, Chad Nkang, and George Wrighster. Reggie Williams and Mike Walker both participated in the evening session, and there may be some consequences as a result. There will be more on that later in the report.
Let’s get straight to the drills:

The Buffalo Bills will hold their first night practice of 2008 training camp tonight at 7PM Eastern at St. John Fisher College. Buffalo Rumblings will be represented by yours truly at the festivities; we're already scheduled to meet up with killascript and the Dukes of Awesome, and if anyone else wants to meet up to chat for a few minutes, I'm game. Look for the lame-o wearing the Posluszny jersey, holding a digital camera and obsessively writing notes. Hope to see some of you out there!
Here's what's been making headlines recently in Bills country...
Bills' Defensive TweaksWhy are the Bills tweaking their defensive system, abandoning specific defensive line techniques and focusing on becoming more physical? Not just because it makes sense. They're doing it to take full advantage of the talents of DT Marcus Stroud.

by FBT on Jul 27, 2008 7:35 PM PDT
The Jags took the field tonight under somewhat humid, but cooler conditions than during the early sessions. Still, the humidity claimed a couple of victims on the field in the night session. The boys were in shells tonight as they prepare for the next step as the pads go on tomorrow night beginning the portion of training camp where the defense can finally be heard from.
The players that did not participate in practice included Jerry Porter, Dennis Northcutt, George Wrighster, Chad Nkang, Jeremy Mincey, and Reggie Williams. The good news on Williams is that he did not appear to be limping, and while his knee was wrapped and iced early in practice, he took off all of the wrappings later on and was walking around looking fine.

| | Camping with FBT: 7/27/08 AM camp report | | 2008-07-27 11:56:57 | | Day two started out in similar fashion to opening day of camp. With a significantly smaller crowd in attendance, the Jaguars took the field under sunny, hot, and humid conditions. Similar to the practice yesterday, the Jaguars have quite obviously made the decision to shorten the length of the practice sessions considerably over years past. After initial warm-ups and stretching were completed, the team ran through drills for just about 70 minutes again this morning.
With the dawn of a new day, the return of one of the Jaguars more popular players marked the event. Fred Taylor, who was excused for practices on Saturday to attend a funeral, was back on the field participating fully with the team.
The players either not in attendance, or not participating included Derrick Harvey, Jerry Porter, Jeremy Mincey, George Wrighster, Mike Walker, Chad Nkang, and Reggie Williams. The Jacksonville Jaguars returned to the practice fields to begin the process of preparing for the 2008 season this morning. It was a balmy start for Camp Del Rio 2008 at the practice facility with barely a breeze. The overcast skies kept it from becoming too hot for the players on the field, and the 2,500-3,000 fans in attendance were also grateful.
This was a very light and short practice session by previous camp standards. The entire practice ran about 75 minutes, which is significantly shorter than in years past. It may have been an effort by the coaching staff to ease into this process as the real grind will begin on Monday when the pads are in play.

It was good to see the team back on the field this morning, sporting their finest shorts and shirts. Noticeably absent from participation (but still on the field with the team) were Mike Walker (worked with the training staff for most of practice with his knee wrapped. According to the team, he’ll participate in 1 practice daily), Brian Smith (still walking with an obvious limp), and George Wrighster (knee was wrapped up tightly).

| | Camping, fishing and golf | | 2008-03-09 19:59:28 | | In my post the other day I was talking about my passion for fishing and camping. Camping can be heaps of fun, but if you are going to get into it I would recommend purchasing some quality camping accessories to make life easy. The most important, apart from the sleeping gear, is the stove you will use for cooking. Camping becomes more appealing when you can make a decent meal and there is nothing like a Woodgas camp stove. | | Camping at Jalama Beach near Santa Barbara | | 2008-03-08 15:51:00 | | From a map, Jalama Beach County Park looks like one of the most isolated beach campgrounds in Southern California. The beach hugs a crescent-shaped coastline between Point Conception and Point Arguello, just south of Vandenberg Air Force Base.No multimillion-dollar mansions or rickety piers mar the coastline for miles in either direction. Just the ocean lapping at the raw land, as it has for millions of years.Despite its remote locale, Jalama Beach is not the rough, isolated park I expected to find when I drove a winding, two-lane country road to the sand-swept campground in February. A dozen relatives and I arrived a few hours before sunset.

| | Beach camping offers waves of enjoyment | | 2008-01-07 09:58:00 | | We were new to beach camping, so the throng caught us by surprise. That "just me and the trees" feeling you often can achieve even in busy forest campgrounds was out of reach here. We were packed in like sardines. The campsite was basically an extra-wide parking spot with a piece of dirt behind it. Nearly all our neighbors were housed in RVs, which seemed the better way to go.
