| YOOUUK!! Red Sox 5 Cardinals 3 | | 2008-06-23 04:02:00 | | This would have been a tough loss and a lousy end to a nice Sunday afternoon, but Kevin Youkilis wanted to go home. So did I, and I WAS home! After all, the players and the crowd had been emotionally involved in a game that lasted more than five hours, including slightly less than an hour rain delay. Youk came up with Mike Lowell on first base and promptly launched one deep into the Monster Seats. That made a winner of Javy Lopez and salvaged one game of the three game set. Here's what the hero of the day had to say after his jubilent tour of the bases..."Sick of playing that game," Youkilis said, after the 5-3 win over the Cardinals. "Glad we got done with it. It was getting a little tiring out there, little humid today with the rain. I just wanted to go home."Peter here again, and I hope your trip home was a little easier than our trip through thirteen innings of hope and angst, Kevin. | The Cardinals Eke One Out On Celtics Night At Fenway...St. Louis 5 Boston 4 | | 2008-06-21 04:23:00 | | It was a festive Friday night at Fenway Park in Boston, and a sea of green Celtics tee shirts and jerseys greeted the Celtics and Red Sox players and coaches before the game in a great ceremony. But after a rain delay of an hour plus, it was time to play baseball. Tim Wakefield pitched well enough to keep his team in the game, allowing 7 hits and four runs, three of them earned (a Lugo error) in 7 innings. Hideki Okajima, continuing his up and down season, gave up three hits and the game-winning run in the eighth before Aardsma, who becomes MORE VALUABLE TO THE CLUB WITH EVERY SINGLE APPEARANCE, struck out the side in the top of the ninth. But Boston had squandered what chances they had and ended up on the short end of the stick, runs wise. Three times they had the bases loaded, and this is the result...one sacrifice fly, one strikeout, one double play, and just two runs. And that ain't enough! Was it the green jerseys? | Game 57 Recap--Pirates 5 Cardinals 4 | | 2008-06-03 14:28:00 | | Just an awesome win. Great game. Tragically, I don't have a ton of time so I'll sum it up real quick:-Gorzo was awful again (at first)--giving up 2 runs in the 1st and 3rd innings. The Cards were spraying lasers all over the ballyard.-It stayed 4-0 through 6 innings because Wainwright was dealing. He had given up one hit through 5.2, and that runner was quickly erased by a double play.-Gorzo managed to recover, not giving up any more runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th. Todd Wellemeyer vs. Cubs hitters: only 9 at bats
Marquis vs. Cardinals hitters: .304/.365/.470 in 115 at-bats
Reed Johnson has faced Wellemeyer 4 times and is 1-4 and that’s the most plate appearances for any Cub against Wellemeyer. Marquis has been beat up on by the Cardinals hitters in his career, which makes perfect sense since it’s Jason Marquis. In 4 starts against the Cardinals last season he threw 25 innings and allowed 22 hits and 9 earned runs (3.24 ERA).
Ramirez is not in the lineup.

Jason Marquis (1-1, 4.45/1.62) vs. Todd Wellemeyer (2-1, 4.14/1.19)
It's Sunday Night Baseball and it's the Cubs and Cardinals....despite what ESPN will say tonight, the best rivalry in all of baseball. The rubber game of the weekend series will feature two starting pitchers facing their former organization. Todd Wellemeyer could never match the expectations he set in his big league debut and Jason Marquis was tossed to the side by Tony La Russa and Dave Duncan....so both pitchers should be out to prove a point tonight.
In other News.... Jon Lieber will replace Rich Hill in the Cubs' rotation and should take the mound in Cincinnati for his first start of the year on Wednesday. You people make me sick. It's not just Will Leitch - it's all of you. You don't appreciate the beauty of this game. Like I told that profane &$@% Leitch, you guys are part of the dumbing-down of America, with your detailed statistical analysis. What the hell is VORP anyway? You #$%@& people don't care about baseball. It's wrong to say that there is no way that you could possibly love it, and so much of baseball is about love. The Cubs will try to avoid their first three game losing streak of the season for the third time in the last 10 days. Lou Piniella's crew is coming off two tough losses and needs Ted Lilly to step up and deliver a victory....not only for his team but for his fellow pitchers in the bullpen. Well, he (being Ian Snell) could not have his usual electric stuff and give up 4 runs in a 9-batter 1st inning. Yeah, that was pretty demoralizing. | Wednesday Game Thread; Cubs at Cardinals; 7:10 p.m. CT | | 2007-07-25 23:00:00 | | Welcome to another episode of "That's Ronny!"
Okay, so you were called up yesterday, got put in when DeRosa went out with tendonitis, and went out and got a crucial RBI single in the sixth inning to tie the game. Good Ronny, good!
Oh, but then, you made an error (already!) an inning later that could have cost the Cubs the game. Bad Ronny, bad!
(Cue theme music, and Cedeno looks at the TV screen, smiles and says, "Thaaaaaaat's Ronny!")
And we could get another episode soon if DeRosa's injury keeps him out a couple games. We'll see. Anyway, the Cubs look to win the series tonight, sending out No. 2 himself, Ted Lilly, who has a 10-4 overall record with a 3.58 ERA. And he doesn't have to face Barry Bonds tonight, which I'm sure Lilly's happy about. For the Cardinals, it's Adam Wainwright, who hasn't been too shabby in his first year moving from the bullpen to the starting rotation. He's 9-7 with a 4.18 ERA and has given up more than two runs just once in | | By: A League of Her Own

| Cardinals Prepared to Soar in NFC West | | 2007-06-05 22:36:05 | |
The general mood among most Arizona Cardinals fans this off season can best be described as tentative anticipation. After the emergence of Matt Leinart last season and the Monday night debacle against Chicago, that is probably reasonable. The Cardinals are a very talented team offensively, but have a very young, yet potentially good, defensive squad. While Chike Okeafor and Antrel Rolle are proven leaders, the rest are somewhat unknown factors. They are all players drafted from reputable colleges with solid football programs, but still relatively young and inexperienced. They’re missing that big defensive playmaker like a Brian Urlacher or Champ Bailey. On special teams, K Neil Rackers led the team in scoring but is coming off a fairly average 2006 after leading the league in points and FG‘s made in ‘05 and RB J.J. Arrington is a legitimate return threat. It is this defensive question mark that has me thinking like most Cardinals fans.

| New Coach - New Look; Cardinals Aim to Fly High in 2007 | | 2007-05-15 16:20:17 | |
According to their new head coach, the Arizona Cardinals are off to a good start in what is going to be an interesting season in the desert. New coach Ken Whisenhunt just wrapped up a three day mini-camp with his new team, and liked for the most part - what he saw. One thing that Whisenhunt was asked about was his first group of rookies that participated in the camp. “There are so many, I can’t hardly keep them all straight. As a group, I thought they did very well,” Whisenhunt said. “Usually there’s a few that you can pick out early that maybe don’t have a legitimate chance, but I didn’t see that in this camp.”
The Cardinals will once again have high hopes this season, as Matt Leinart will enter the season as the undisputed starter at QB, and the rest of the offense will be called upon to have a better year than 2006. The biggest part of that may come in running the ball better, something the team simply did not do very well l | | By: NFL GridIron Gab
