    2008-06-27 07:33:00

    Wow, the Challenges
    2008-06-09 07:16:39
Last night I typed that I was going to rise above, remember? And this morning I just blogged about how my day could not be ruined with the success in my weight loss.Well, Salinda is trying her hardest to make me a liar. She has work crew this morning, a consequence of one of her many probation violations. I woke her up 30 minutes before time to leave and she didn’t get up. I woke her up again 15 minutes later only because I don’t want to her to spiral down like she usually does. Her pattern is to screw up in some way and then, paranoid by the possible consequences and believing the worst is going to happen, she makes it worse and worse and worse for herself by making poorer and poorer choices until she bottoms out and faces legal challenges. So, this morning I tried something different and tried using a sense of humor. Told her she should get up because this would be a perfect chance to be really mean to me and she likes that so much she needed to get out of bed so she could do

    Challenges
    2008-06-02 16:29:00
Life has been crazy busy over here as usual. I didn't name this blog "Organized Chaos" for nothing. My husband is working 4 10 hour days so he can be here more and attend the many upcoming doctor's appointments I will have. I love having him home all day on Fridays but it means I spend no time updating my blog over the weekend. Our new 6 year old son has decided that he no longer wants to use the toilet and instead is peeing in his bed or his pants. This is a challenge both because of my morning sickness and it means something is going on with him and it isn't good. We are off to see his therapist on the 11th. I am hoping for some help for him.We got our garden in finally this weekend. We are so slow at that this year. It helps that I am feeling better and better by the day. Hopefully by next week I will be out of this morning sickness althogether.I am finally getting to that huge pile of "to-do's" that have been piling up while I have been sick. I even have stuff from my Mom that I need

Goverment's use of GPS tracking device in Connecticut trash probe could become test case NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- An accountant charged in a federal probe of mob influence in the trash industry is challenging the government's use of a sophisticated GPS tracking device that he says was put on his car without a warrant.Christopher Rayner's lawyer is asking a judge to decide whether the high-technology snooping violates constitutional protections against unreasonable government searches. It's a "novel issue implicating questions about how the reality of GPS technology impacts traditional notions of Fourth Amendment protection," attorney Ross Garber wrote in a motion asking U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Bree Burns to throw out any evidence obtained by the GPS device.Rayner discovered the global positioning system protruding from the undercarriage of his car in September 2005. Alkaline Water Cures 75% of ALL Health Challenges!
    2008-04-12 00:21:44
You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty"For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God."(I Corinthians 3:19)Is the answer to our current health care crisis as simple as drinking half your bodyweight a day in alkaline water with a teaspoon of pure, colloidal pHlavor sea salt? It sounds too easy doesn’t it? However, the passage from Corinthians makes it clear that what man thinks is best or correct is generally foolishness to God. Think about it for a moment. Trillions of dollars are being made annually worldwide when it comes to health care. Pharmaceutical companies have billions of people literally hooked on drugs that do absolutely nothing to cure their health problems.Scientists, doctors and researchers are all in search of the magic bullet cure that they think will be found in some synthetic concoction they come up with. Might they all be looking in the wrong places?Everyone knows that alkaline water is the source of all life on earth. NASA scientists send space probes around th

    The Pressure's On (Dem's): Ogonowski Re-Challenges Kerry
    2008-03-04 12:18:00
The pressure continues to mount against Dem's as the elections approach. First it was John (our Marines are mass murderers) Murtha being challenged in his home court by Lt. Col. William Russell. Now John Kerry, who was almost defeated last round, faces a rematch.Retired Air Force and Air National Guard Lt. Col. (retired after 28 years), Jim Ogonowski is taking another crack at John Kerry. Last time, Democrats / Kerry out spent Ogonowski by a ratio of nearly 5 to 1, and STILL almost lost. That does not bode well for Kerry's reputation.Nor do I believe the "voted for the war, before voting against it," helps him much either. Especially now since there's almost nil reporting from our "fair and balanced" media since things have seriously improved in Iraq. But that's another issue entirely.Lt. Col. Drunk Challenges Police Car to a Fight -- and the smart money is not on the boozer
    2008-02-15 10:51:43
Blackouts are nature’s way of sparing drunks from having to forever remember the shameful acts they may have committed whilst in liquor’s clutches. (Though the legend-like feats of the worst among them have been collected for posterity in our book, “The Man Who Scared a Shark to Death: and other true tales of drunken debauchery). Also, in some places simply telling an arresting officer that you were so blotto you can’t remember a single detail of the crime you are alleged to have committed will result in you being set free with a sandwich and the best wishes of the city… or so we’ve heard.A 25-year-old man in Lincolnshire England was arrested recently for a crime he committed while blackout drunk that one would have assumed involved the consumption of hallucinogenic drugs rather than alcohol – challenging a police car to a fight. The man is said to have finished a night’s boozing by hopping up on the roof of a marked police car and shouting “come on then”, while swin

    Challenges and Obstacles
    2008-02-12 22:47:00
My new job at the book shop gave me a decent life, ample time to read and meet people. In the evenings, I would go to the Esplanade to play football or go to the shipping office to chat with other relatives and friends. At times I would go in search of solitude usually to the Esplanade as it was only a walking distance. Esplanade was the perfect place to sit and dream. Youngsters gathered here for some sea breeze and hawker food. The sea promenade would be always full of teenagers. I would sit on the retaining wall; see the harbour, Butterworth on the mainland and Gunung Jerai across in Kedah. As I sit smelling the salty air and see the waves crashing against the retaining wall, my thoughts will float over the sea to create a vision of illusion. I would dream the impossible and feel that beyond the sea is a land which would give me a new life. I would ask the twinkling stars and the friendly moon where the strange land is. But to get there, not only I needed strength but money which bl

Challenges after sixty years of independence
    2008-02-03 09:47:02
In February 4th 1948, the British emperors officially handed over the administrative powers to the Sri Lankans. Since then we celebrate this day as our independence day. At the same time, some sections of the people absurdly question that what sort of development we have gained since this so called independence. In fact, indirectly they try to promote an impression that the good old white government would have been far better than the governments in post independence era.Historical backgroundWhen we were presented with independence in 1948, the costal areas had been under different colonial rules for about 450 years while the whole country has been under them for over 130 years. By that time, the colonial masters were able to create segments in the society who were more than willing to serve them. Firstly, they were hand picked from those from royal clan who were shamelessly willing to betray the country to retain their power and this segment was christened by Don Juan Dharmapala and m

Challenges of starting a home business
    2008-01-27 13:18:00
Working from home can be both challenging and rewarding. Below are several things to keep in mind when seriously considering a work at home job or profession.Keep your office and house as separate as possible is essential to your home business. Someone working at home should create an office that you really enjoy walking into and that has everything you want is in one area. Organization books call it a "zone" which is an area of the house having one purpose. In this case, it should be your home business area.Sometimes home workers report isolation as both an issue and a big challenge. One of the biggest challenges concerning isolation is the mere fact that there is sometime no one physically around to bounce ideas off of, or complain about the boss! One way around this is to make an active effort to get out meet for coffee or lunch with a business associate current or potential clients, attending networking meetings in your area, and participating in online business related forums and

Challenges of Taxation on Internet Business
    2008-01-20 20:36:00
Electronic commerce (e-commerce) has changed the way business is conducted in the twenty-first century. Since the advent of e-commerce distances and national borders have become much less significant and the concept of a global marketplace has become much more of a reality.Sales can now be made via the Internet thereby increasing the availability of new ranges of products and services worldwide in the so-called global market. Commercial transactions no longer require traditional intermediaries. Government regulatory and tax authorities are therefore finding it much more difficult to track the flow of intangible products and services. Although taxation is less of an issue in the internet business practitioners, it is an issue of concern for many governments. The Internet as a market place without boundaries, presents complicated administrative challenges for traditional means of levying taxation. There are however fears that some jurisdictions may target on-line transactions with new forms of taxation thus increasing the costs of purchasing online. Some international e-commerce transactions may touch numerous national and international taxing jurisdictions and so increase the odds that consumers will be overwhelmed by multiple taxes. The identification of parties involved in the transactions, the applicable jurisdiction of tax liabilities, the risk of double taxation location of server, location of the bank from which funds for purchase are withdrawn and enforcement of tax laws have prompted the attention of legislators and analysts around the world. Difficulties that face legislators around the world are, for example, how to identify the parties to e-commerce transactions and how to determine which jurisdiction(s) ought to tax such transactions. In determining which jurisdiction ought to tax ecommerce transactions, relevant considerations include whether the appropriate jurisdiction should be where particular servers are located or where the bank from which funds are p

Many sites have enjoyed top rankings for years without being proactive in link development. Once they got top rankings they started to take their rankings for granted. Some feel a sense of "entitlement" to top rankings."I am generally finding this sense of entitlement and arrogance among Webmasters who have maintained rankings for some time," said Benjamin Pfeiffer, president of RankSmart.com. "If they can't get the rankings, they throw a Google tantrum. This attitude, however, shows their inexperience, as a good SEO would never be so hasty."

    Android's Challenges
    2008-01-10 10:25:22
CEO's and CDO's are talking about Android and some of the things that might stand in the way of Google reaching the next level in search. Take for instance Dan Olschwang, CEO of JumpTap. He says that "they have to seriously overhaul it" to serve a mobile audience. If somebody asks, 'Where is the closest gas station?' they need that information now, and they don't need 20,000 results." Very valid point. Who is going to care to read sponsored ads for starting a gas station or buying one? Don't believe us...? Users are going to want an instant result that says "BP is 2.3 miles with a map to go along with it." Rather than thousands of results, we'll want 5 or so. Olschwang predicts that Google will not "completely fail" in mobile web but he doesn't "think they will be nearly as successful as they are on the (desktop) Web." Dan wouldn't be heartbroken if Google didn't do so good because JumpTap has developed a search engine and search-advertising platform for cellphones.T-Mobile's chief development officer, Cole Brodman sheds a tad bit of light into how they will implement Android into handsets. He says Google's basic wireless goal is to use Android to better target ads to wireless customers so it can charge advertisers more. By combining "unique information about consumers from the Web," he says, with "other information" from mobile devices, such as location, "Google believes search responses can be much more targeted for Google, and that the value they can bring back to advertisers can be quite a bit higher."Sounds great, but what about all the ads people are worried about seeing on their phone? Brodman says that Android will not favor Google over Yahoo or other search engines and that consumers also can "opt out" of Google's "cookies," used to track their movements on the Web. Brodman says T-Mobile won't blanket its customers with advertisements from Google or any other company. "Mobile phones are personal and private, and we want to ensure th

The government of Sri Lanka; Challenges for 2008
    2008-01-08 22:34:15
The year 2007 marked one of the politically vibrant years in Sri Lankan history. In the past year, while the war against terrorism being the main success for the country, other different politico-social-economic aspects had its ups and downs. The government not only successfully weather the political storms initiated by UNP and its backing international agents which is later orchestrated by JVP, but also lead the war against terrorism in successful manner. However the economy and corruption remained the weak links in the country in the last year. The year 2008 is going to be crucial in many aspects and the success of the coming year will greatly depends on completing the war in a wining note and starting the economic revival and fight against corruption in new grounds. The war against terrorismLast year, the country witnessed the success in the fight against terrorism in all fronts. The Sri Lankan forces must be commended for the enormous commitment and dedication shown in the fight against LTTE, which had transformed into one of the ruthless and powerful terrorist organizations due to weakness and selfishness of past political leadership of this country. It was Mahinda Rajapaksa who is closely backed by his own brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa that led the political leadership for the war. Unlike past governments, Mahinda never let the war to be politicized and he let the battle hardened military leadership to tackle the terrorism. The government made sure that it will not engaged in any act that would jeopardize the moral of the armed forces despite immense political pressure from international community and their local agents in the form of political parties and allied NGO’s.The SL army successfully repulsed LTTE terrorists from the entire eastern province and now the SL armed forces have completely seized the Wanni jungle which is LTTE terrorists’ last strong hold. In the last year, The SL Navy was successful in sinking seven LTTE ships packed with arms and ammunit

Challenges Await in Investigating Benazir Bhutto's Death
    2008-01-06 11:45:11
Pakistan has decided to allow Scotland Yard to investigate Benazir Bhutto's assassination. This is a good political move given the massive suspicion on the country's streets that Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf was behind her death -- suspicions that Musharraf has fueled through his government's incompetent handling of the aftermath of Bhutto's killing. It seems that Western behind-the-scenes pressure played a role in the invitation that Musharraf extended to Scotland Yard. An Agence France-Presse...(read more)

Book & Movie Explore Challenges of Marriage
    2007-12-30 11:43:12
Doris Lessing in her 1950 novel, "The Grass is Singing," many of Edith Wharton's stories, and the recent movie "The Painted Veil" explore the tragic consequences of the socially upheld expectation of women to marry. In today's culture, women still feel compelled to "make a good match" even if they consider themselves modern or progressive.Kitty Garstin, played by Naomi Watts in the 2006 film "The Painted Veil" was confronted by her family who implied that they no longer wished to financially support her and that it was time for her to get married, thus becoming someone else's burden. This film was set in the 1920's and Kitty did not have the skills and society did not have the infrastructure to allow a woman of her class to earn her own income and thereby support herself. Kitty's only path to "independence" was to get married, even if she didn't want to, or as in this case, was not in love with her suitor. Her marriage led her on a downward tailspin to the bleak, grim lands of inner China to a town decimated by a cholera outbreak. Left here, isolated from her previous life, Kitty is forced to not only grow up but to also forge her own path and identity.Doris Lessing's female character, Mary Turner of "The Grass is Singing" does not fare as well as Kitty Garstin. The story opens with her murder and then back tracks to how she arrived at such a fatal ending. Mary Turner was unlike Kitty, and more like some of Edith Wharton's women, she worked and supported herself even if the income was meager. Mary Turner was successful with her office job and socially successful. She was happy and independent until she overheard some of her friends criticizing her for remaining single. Mary felt shame at their stigma, as if being single meant that she was incomplete or undesirable, instead of single by her own choice. Many women still experience this same stigma today. They hear exclamations like "Why is a nice girl like you still single?"Mary, like Kitty, enters into a hos

    Challenges of finding Printer Cartridges
    2007-11-18 07:39:00
With thousands of printer models around, it can be a big challenge to buy ink cartridges once you have run out of the in-box stuff. As is true with other electronics stuff, new models come out every 12 to 18 months and with that all the accessories for the old ones are gone from the shelves of electronics stores as well. I faced this problem first hand when I went to buy ink cartridge for my Epson Stylus CX3200. When the sale associate at Best Buy could not find it,he suggested that I should dump this printer and buy a new one, as it was a dinosaur of the printer world. While agreeing with his assessment,I did make some last ditch efforts to find any some options. And this effort lead me to Cartridge Finder and since then all my worries about getting ink cartridges is gone. It a very clean and easy to use website, where you can find ink cartridges for almost all the models at the click of the mouse. Folks instead of wasting hours at the electronic stores try this out.

    The Challenges of Change
    2007-09-20 22:03:00
Over the past few months we have spent a great deal of time assessing our future business needs and as a result we have launched a new group in the company to focus on new business initiatives and in particular on the many opportunities that are developing through various forms of emerging media, such as internet based programming and mobile content. We are very excited about these developments and believe that they will help us to capitalise on new opportunities, as well as continue to offer our existing clients the same great service that they have come to expect from NHNZ.The Emerging Media group, which will encompass our stock footage library and other existing non-broadcast activities such as DVD and mobile content sales, will be headed up by Caroline Cook, who brings with her extensive marketing and media experience. She will be joining us on 8 October. The establishment of the group was part of a restructure of various parts of our existing operation and regrettably this has lead to the disestablishment of the position of Library Manager and with it the loss of our highly-regarded and long-serving manager, Rosi Crane.Rosi joined NHNZ 16 years ago from the BBC in Bristol, where she had been manager of the Natural History Unit Library. During her time at NHNZ she has overseen the development of our library from a roomful of tapes into the well managed, thriving operation that it is today. Fortunately, we won't be entirely losing Rosi's valuable skills and knowledge. As she moves into a new phase in her life as a freelance footage consultant, her first engagement will be working on a business development project for NHNZ.As part of the Emerging Media division, the NHNZ Images footage business will continue as before, with the very capable Olly Rudd and Jamie Thorp standing ready to deal with footage research and sales, and to provide for your every need for footage and stills for your production.Olly gained a BSc. Hons in Physics at Lancaster

The Challenges of Entering Tibet from Nepal
    2007-08-02 08:00:52
A few weeks ago, I was merrily collecting entry and Visa requirements for the first few countries I intend to visit. All was going well, until I reached Nepal. Getting into Nepal will be simple, as Americans can get a 60-day Visa upon arrival, however it didn’t take long for me to find out that accessing Tibet from the Nepalese side (vs the Chinese side) as an independent traveler may be extremely difficult. Visiting Tibet is very important to me. After reading the Dalai Lama’s autobiography a few years ago, I started to feel a great sense of sympathy and compassion for the Tibetan people and their culture. It upsets me to hear, read, and learn about the human rights abuses which are occurring, the need for Tibetans to flee their land over the dangerous Himalaya (into India), and the increasing influence China continues to exert in the region. The fact that a Tibetan’s mention of the Dalai Lama by name can have him/her thrown in jail is appalling. During my resea

    WWE.com Challenges Benoit Reports
    2007-06-27 19:08:00
The WWE Article:STAMFORD, Conn., June 26, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment is stunned and saddened by the details released by local authorities concerning the double homicide-suicide involving Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son, Daniel. However, WWE is concerned with the sensationalistic reporting and speculation being undertaken by some members of the media following the press conference held by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney. During the press conference, the investigating authorities made the following points, all of which run contrary to the media speculation that "roid rage" was a factor in the senseless murders and suicide:1. The authorities stated that all drugs found in the house were believed to be legal prescriptions.2. Steroids were not, and could not, be related to the cause of death (asphyxiation). Authorities had no factual basis to speculate as to Benoit’s state of mind, and rightly did not do so.3. Toxicology tests have

    YouTube challenges the Pentagon
    2007-05-18 14:52:12
On Tuesday I posted about how the Pentagon is blocking access to sites such as MySpace and YouTube to boost network efficiencies. Yesterday, in their first extensive interview since YouTube was bought by Google last year, YouTube’s co-founders challenged the US Pentagon to reverse the ban or at least partially revoke the complete ban. Chad Hurley, CEO of YouTube, said in the interview, “They said it might be a bandwidth issue, but they created the Internet, so I don’t know what the problem is.” The report goes on to say that YouTube was reaching out to the Pentagon to learn “what it’s going to take to keep the YouTube site up” and “they were willing to work with the military to install controls on what type of content would be available”. I’m sure that a lot of people will be watching this story closely, not only those who are interested in this Pentagon/YouTube saga but also how to work around the complete banning of social m
