| Is This a Pontiac or a Chevy? | | 2008-07-10 00:01:00 | | So the last Hemmings cruise-in, while not outstanding in terms of quantity due to the rain that soaked the area all day, still produced some cars of outstanding quality - enough so that we forged ahead and handed out awards despite the low numbers. | | Lutz chimes in on the Chevy Beat | | 2008-07-07 13:26:00 | | In the wake of the Chevy Beat news that started pounding the wires before the 4th of July weekend, the Wall Street Journal reached out to Bob Lutz for some commentary on the topic. Lutz, in an email to the Journal, said, "We always thought we'd do it at some point, but now it obviously enjoys a much higher priority." Based on what the Journal says, this loosely translates to "the 2012 timeframe." Unfortunately for GM, this is a car that its U.S. operation needs approximately yesterday. It would behoove the brain trust in the RenCen to stop debating this and simply end all the speculation by formally announcing a U.S. Beat and attaching a timetable, already (as in, now). We think that the car's appearance as an Autobot in next summer's Transformers follow-up will help create enough public interest for that GM will be forced to make some sort declaration if they haven't by then already (TF2 opens on June 26, 2009).As we've suggested, GM would probably do itself a big favor by greenlighti | | By: Car News | | |
| | Spy Photos: 2010 Chevy Silverado HD | | 2008-07-02 16:16:00 | | Look quickly, and you'll miss the changes, but GM's got some subtle exterior tweaks in store for its Heavy Duty trucks in 2010. Development doesn't stop even though the practice of using a pickup truck as a commuter car is no longer popular, so GM is plugging away at a new Silverado to avoid being passed up by its competitors.Competition aside, there's also the issue of federal regulations to comply with, so changes were necessary no matter what. Most noticeably, the bumper changes, gaining a strip of trim that extends across the top, doing away with the overemphasized corner look of the current cow catcher. Looking more closely at the bumper, the air intake in the middle appears to have grown in size. That opening feeds the transmission cooler, so the speculation is that the Allison transmission has picked up extra ratios. Of course, it could just be bigger to gain an edge on thermal management underhood, but we're going to jump on the bandwagon of being excited for more cogs spun by | | By: Car News | | |

| | 2009 Chevy Tahoe Hybrid Give SUV New Image? | | 2008-06-24 09:37:00 | | When the first Chevy Tahoe rolled off the assembly line in 1992, Americans were still buying typewriters, gas was a little over a buck and global warming was largely something people from California fretted about. So what if the Tahoe got something like 14 miles to the gallon?
Now, SUVs are about as hip as the Macarena, but GM is gambling enthusiasts want to quit polluting - or at least avoid coughing up $100 every turn at the pump - so here comes the Tahoe Hybrid.
For about $4,000 more than the sticker on the top-of-the-line, all-gas Tahoe, you can drive this 5,500-pound eight seater, which gets 20 miles to the gallon and has an enormous "HYBRID" printed on its flanks. GM's behemoths, even the green ones, require a claque, after all.
The system the Tahoe uses is called a "two-mode," based on technology already in use in GM buses and jointly created, surprisingly, by GM, BMW and the now de-coupled DaimlerChrysler.

| Quick Test: 2008 Chevy Malibu LTZ | | 2008-06-22 00:28:00 | | This is far and away the most American midsize sedan you can buy. Letter-writers relax, we haven't bothered to track down the provenance of every last bit and piece; we're talking personality here. Everything about Chevy's new Malibu is big and bold. It's an unabashed Yankee Doodle Dandy, from its broad smiling face and blingy chrome wheels to the brightwork ringing the windows. The brash styling continues inside with multiple choices of high-contrast interior colors and more chrome trim. It's a refreshing distraction from all the bland-mobiles rolling out of so many Asian-owned factories.Such brash styling gives the Malibu a larger-than-life countenance. When parked near its chief rivals, the Malibu looks larger than most, but dimensionally it's among the smallest -- only the Nissan Altima and Kia Optima cast smaller shadows. Sit in the Malibu and it feels large, but in fact, at 112.5 cu ft, only the VW Passat has a smaller EPA combined interior and trunk volume. Driving the Malibu LT | | By: Autoshows | | |

| | | | eBay Find of the Day: 1983 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport Dragster | | 2008-06-06 17:06:00 | | Ah, the Eurosport, Chevrolet's well-executed package for classing up the '80s A-Body front-drivers. Catch a Eurosport in your peripheral vision quickly, and it'd be easy to mistake it for a Volvo 7-series, or even an Audi 5000 (G). What we have here is a time capsule in two ways. First, the Celebrity was GM's redemption from the X-Body's failure to deliver on its potential. The Celebrity is the vehicle where the General got its act together, fully years before the Taurus, too. Secondly, this particular Celebrity was swept up in the Pro Street craze that customizers glommed on to in the days when a guy could pull off a hot pink tank top. It's a period piece, built when the Simpsons were still on Tracey Ullman. The excesses of the 1980s are perfectly embodied in the decadent Pro Street movement; the same ethos drove the popularity of hair metal. There was an edge to it, an underlying basis in the blues. Pro Street's blues were the grit and rocket fuel fumes of serious drag racing. Many c | | By: Car News | | |

| | REPORT: Production-trim Chevy Volt to be shown in Paris | | 2008-05-19 12:25:00 | | Britain's Channel 4 reports that GM will be making an announcement related to the Chevy Volt when the curtain lifts on the 2008 edition of the Mondial de l'Automobile, better known around here as the Paris Motor Show, in October. Channel 4 reports that we can expect to see the U.S. production-spec Volt on display in the City of Lights. That's big news in and of itself, and we're wondering if GM will use the occasion to tell Europe when they can plan on getting an Opel-branded E-Flex ride of their own. Hmmm... An official Camaro unveiling this summer and now the production Volt in Paris? | | Chevy Camaro getting early unveil at Indy in September | | 2008-05-15 21:08:00 | | It's true. The production Chevy Camaro will debut at Indy, but not at the Indy 500 race in a couple of weeks. Rather, General Motors has informed various Camaro fanboy circles that production Camaros will be in attendance at the Indy '08, Back at the Brickyard event from September 19-21. The Back at the Brickyard is an event attended by thousands of Camaro and Firebird fans, so it's appropriate that the production Camaro be welcomed into the world by friends. On hand will be a number of different Camaro models sporting the full engine lineup and, of course, all the different colors. Everyone thought GM would wait until the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit to debut its new rear-wheel-drive coupe bearing the iconic Camaro name, but we're hardly disappointed the car will be unveiled more than three months earlier. The test track though, as you can see in the photo above, is another story entirely. According to Brenda Priddy's spy photographers, the Volt's E-Flex underpinnings are currently being tested cloaked under last-generation Malibu bodywork. We knew they'd be coming and are glad to see some visual proof. The production Volt will be based on GM's Delta platform, not the Malibu's architecture. The mules you see in these shots should contain an electric motor, an engine/generator set and some of the first battery packs from CPI and Continental. | | Chevy Classics! | | 2008-04-04 07:18:00 | | Chevrolet used to have an advertising campaign that touted, “Baseball, apple pie, and Chevrolet.” Supposedly, General Motor’s largest division attempted to indoctrinate consumers into believing that a Chevrolet was as mainstream as Main Street, USA. In many ways this campaign worked. For generations now the Chevrolet division has been serving up cars that have been snapped up by Americans, particularly those seeking their first car. Let’s take a look at three Chevy classics that have shaped the respected US automaker.Corvette – In 1953, the Chevy Corvette was released and the auto market hasn’t been the same since. | | Spy Shots: Chevy Beat spotted on the road in China, is it real? | | 2008-03-31 16:39:35 | | At last year's New York Auto Show, the Chevrolet mini car triplets were the stars of the show, particularly the lime green Chevy Beat. Later in the year at the LA Auto Show, GM announced that the Beat would indeed go into production around 2010. The first spy shots of what appears to be a Chevy Beat wearing the usual camo suit of vinyl and tape have now surfaced. Interestingly although the Beat was designed and engineering by GM's Korean team at Daewoo, this particular car was snapped in China. This of course raises the obvious question of whether in fact this is a genuine GM prototype or a premature knock-off from Chery or some other Chinese builder. Given that the Beat has been around for a year now and has made the rounds of all the auto shows, it would be pretty easy for someone to gather enough information to create a pretty realistic-looking replica. Only time will tell if this one is the real thing. We'll be watching for an introduction at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show. Galler | | By: Auto News: Car Reviews, Car News, Car Shows | | |

The rear windows pop open for ventilation and an 84-horse 1.2L or step-up 1.4L that generates 101 hp will supply power. The interior styling carries over, as do the exterior visuals that share the Aveo5's gigantic grille, fake fender vents, and the like. | | An Introduction To Chevy Corvette | | 2008-02-05 23:28:00 | | An Introduction to CorvetteBy William BergThe glorious Corvette history started in 1953, when Chevrolet first came out with the Corvettes. It has endured the tests and ravages of time, and is now considered to be at par with some of the greatest cars in the world. The first all American sports car built by an American company, today Corvettes are manufactured almost exclusively by General Motors in their plant in Kentucky. The early Corvette produced in 1953, was a reflection of the styling flair of Harley Earl, who convinced GM that two-seater sports cars were the ultimate American dream. The name Corvette comes from a small maneuverable fighting frigate. The early Corvettes were almost hand built using fiberglass instead of steel for the lightweight effect. At that time, Chevrolet was known for producing excellent performing cars in a no nonsense package. So, though the cars were good value, sales continued to decline. The Corvette history would have ended with this small chapter excep | | By: Car Buying Tips To Save You Money | | |

| | Scion Xb versus Chevy HHR ?? | | 2008-01-18 11:00:00 | | Which one is better? Both start around $16,000.. but only the Scion has ABS, side curtain airbags and traction control, standard.. The HHR has a nice and durable plastic clad trunk area and fold flat rear seats (Xb has chintzy fabric covering and flimsy trunk cover flap) Both vehicles are good on gas- 28 and 30 mpg respectively. The Xb has more standard horsepower and is more fun to drive than the HHR. The HHR is styled like an old 1940's milk truck whereas the Xb is styled very high tech modern.. Maybe these vehicles both suck.. but please consider that we are looking for an affordable and roomy "novelty" vehicle with lots of curb appeal, one we can decorate with graphics and make it into a "WeeBIKE.com-mobile". It will also receive some graphics of the new M1 Racing Team. Thoughts? Opinions? Alternatives? | | By: Amerikan Turk | | |

| | 2007 Chevy Fulwin Concept | | 2007-12-10 22:09:00 | | 2007 Chevy FulwinBy Fei LimWhile you don't usually hear much about sports cars that are made in China, the 2007 Chery Fulwin just may change that. Although the car is still only a concept car, it very well may be the car that takes China into the real of sports car production. This car is very light weight, and only weighs in at about 2650 pounds. Combine that with a nice 1.6 L engine that puts out 100 lb-ft of torque and you have a car that will definitely be quite speedy. The new Chery Fulwin is much different from the boxy car of the past, and now boasts some smoother curves and a new design that is much more modern than before. The 2007 Chery Fulwin was recently shown at the Beijing Motor Show and was definitely quite a hit. In fact, it was stated that it was actually one of the hottest vehicles to be shown at this show. The name Fulwin, actually translates to mean "wind cloud" and the car definitely looks like it could go like the wind. It combines together some very sharp lines with some slight curves that make it have a very eye catching look. The Chery company is wanting to see this car produced, and they may even give low cost cars, such as KIA a run for their money in the future. With a sporty look and a two door design, it is no wonder that the 2007 Chery Fulwin made such an impact at the Beijing Motor Show. It is definitely a car that boasts great looks and Chery hopes to start actually producing the sports car sometime in 2008. One of the great things about this vehicle is the low price. While you get a sporty look and drive from this car, it is not overpriced and is great for the younger generation that wants a sporty car without a steep price.Although other designs from Chery in the past have not pushed the design concepts to this level, it is a breath of fresh air to look at the 2007 Chery Fulwin. The car has a very sleek look and the front of the car looks light and fast. As you look towards the back of the vehicle it gets a bit broader and has heavi | | By: Car Buying Tips To Save You Money | | |

Well, more than 1.8 million people worldwide voted on GM's online survey, and one has beaten down the competition. At the 2007 LA Auto Show, Bob Lutz announced that a vehicle based on the Chevy Beat concept will go into global production outside the North America in mid-2009. Production will begin in South Korea where the car was originally created at GM's design studio in Bupyeong. GM is still undecided as to whether the Beat will be eventually sold in the United States. | | Chevy Tahoe Hybrid: Real American Revolution? | | 2007-06-13 09:42:00 | | Finally, an American hybrid.I won't call it a freedom-fighter - that takes, minimally, 40 mpg. Nonetheless, I'll call the Chevy Tahoe hybrid an incredibly important step in the evolution of the American automobile. I might even call it an American revolution. The Chevy Tahoe hybrid, as well as the Yukon hybrid, will not just be the first dual mode hybrid vehicles, these hybrids vehicles will be Made in America.Unlike Ford's hybrids, such as theEscape hybrid, the Tahoe hybrid will also not be built under any sort of licensing agreement with Toyota. This is not a Japanese hybrid powertrain in disguise - no offense to either Ford or to the Japanese - this is a new, more American spin on hybrids. In contrast to Japan, the U.S. is a huge land mass - a huge land mass filled with a massive network of highways and freeways that Americans often use to traverse great distances. | | | Chevy Beat production confirmed as Matiz-replacement | | 2007-06-07 22:06:24 | | Autocar got an advanced previewing of the next Chevrolet Matiz recently. They are happy to report that one of the trio concepts unveiled at the Big Apple will be the main influence for the design. The Matiz will depart from the vanilla-esque look of now and will move into the hot-hatch sector for the successor.
The Matiz, which will heavily influence styling from the Beat Concept, will be available in three or five-door configurations. The Matiz will grow in size in accordance to South Korea’s new regulations on city cars.
Autocar also got some hints on the reskinned Aveo hatchback which will go on sale next spring. The new Aveo Hatchback will feature a sharper exterior with interiors shared with the new Aveo Sedan, which is on sale currently. The new Aveo will most likely debut in Bologna later this year. Follow the jump to view a hi-res image gallery of the Beat Concept.

| | | GM Chevy Minicar Concept; Big Things Come In Small Packages | | 2007-05-12 06:08:00 | | General Motors showed off 3 Minicar concepts at the recent New York International Auto Show. The Cars were designed in its South Korea design studio in Inchon. GM were asking potential customers to go to www.vote4chevrolet.com to cast a vote on their favorite of the 3. I believe GM was testing the waters to see if any of the 3 would float. The first being the Chevrolet Beat Concept which has a 1.2 liter gasoline engine and automatic transmission. It is a 3 door hatchback that has a fabric covered instrument panel that will give it an uplevel feel. The Chevrolet Groove Concept is a 4 door and features the only deisel engine of the minicars. It is a 1.0 liter deisel and could get up to 50 miles to a gallon. The Chevrolet Groove has a matte finish similar to the finish on cell phones, but GM is concerned the sought after matte finish will shine up from buffing of car washes. The Chevrolet Trax Concept will feature a low cost All Wheel Drive option with a 1.0 liter gas engine.
