    Bombs Away in Cincy
    2008-06-16 14:12:00
After a close shave on Saturday afternoon, the Red Sox flexed their muscles on Sunday afternoon, and got four home runs, three from unlikely sources, as they took the interleague series from the Cincinnati Reds without much difficulty, 9-0.Josh Beckett pitched seven solid innings in getting the win. He struggled a bit the first two innings, but he settled in after Cincinnati couldn't get to him early. Jacoby Ellsbury singled to open the game, stole two bases and scored on a Dustin Pedroia sacrifice fly. Ellsbury went deep later in the game, and was joined by Coco Crisp (second in two days), Pedroia and J.D. Drew (11th of the year). The Red Sox were without Manny Ramirez, who was sidelined for the second straight game with a slight hamstring strain. He figures to be back tonight.Ellsbury also set a new record for stolen bases for a Red Sox rookie with 33, having broken the old record of one Amby McConnell, who swiped 31 in 1908.The Red Sox now head into Philadelphia, and take on the NL E...

Harang, Reds Defeat The Red Sox 3-1 in Cincy
    2008-06-14 04:15:00
The Cincinnati Red's Aaron Harang found his rythym after a few bad starts and held the Boston Red Sox to five hits and one run in a 3-1 victory. Boston had not been to Cincinnati since the 1975 World Series. The last Sox pitcher to win a game there was none other than Luis Tiant, or Looo-ie, as he was affectionately called. Justin Masterson pitched well enough to win but he could not match Harang's outing. He had this to say after the game's conclusion... “You always want to be perfect when you go out in front of your friends and family, but Aaron Harang was really good today.“That was probably the best I’ve felt. The ball was sinking really good. For the most part, my slider was moving. I hung a few pitches.”Manny Ramirez, who was playing leftfield, had to leave the game in the seventh inning when his hamstring tightened up, and he will probably get the day off today. That leaves the Sox without their two most feared hitters, Manny and Papi, for this afternoon's game, which st...

Bengals Wide Out Johnson Outraces Horse In Cincy
    2007-06-10 04:14:25
The best news is that he didn’t get hurt. The somewhat surprising news - he won. Yes, Bengals wide out Chad Johnson on Saturday not only raced - but beat a horse during a charity event in Cincinnati. Johnson, who went up against a horse named “Restore the Roar,” won the race by several lengths at River Downs in front of about 8,000 fans. Johnson, never one to take a back seat to showboating, was quite boastful after the race. “Floyd Merriweather, you’re next,” Johnson yelled. “I want to fight you. I’d like to take Kobe and LeBron one-on-one. Jeff Gordon, we can take a couple laps.” C.J. may have had a little revenge in mind for the Bengals, as 14 years ago, Bengals wide out Chris Collinsworth lost a similar race to the same jockey that rode the horse Johnson beat on Saturday. The current Bengals receiver took the win in stride, and even took a ride on the horse that he beat. He did say that he might be back at River Downs later in t...

Bengals Lewis Needs to Curtail Comments About Cincy Police
    2007-05-25 12:29:50
When it comes to stupid comments, I guess nowadays in the National Football League it’s not just classified to the players, but to coaches as well. Such was the case on Wednesday, when Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis made a ridiculous statement on ESPN Radio that Bengal players are being pulled over because of profiling at work. Yes, Lewis, who is not running a football team on most days but a home for troubled players, stated that wide out Chris Henry was pulled over for not signaling a turn because of profiling. Upon it leaking to the masses, the Bengals quickly went into damage control, and Lewis, who is supposed to be the leader of his team, back tracked his statements. “At no point did I say or mean to imply that these issues had anything to do with race,” Lewis stated. “When I spoke of our players being perhaps more subject to scrutiny than others, I was referring to their standing as public figures.” Uh, in other words, what I think Lewis meant was ...
