| | Where I Lay My Head (and my bones...) Is Home: Some statistical facts about dual citizenship in Luxembourg | | 2008-04-14 14:00:37 | | (see the original charts in http://www.statistiques.public.lu/)The red line at the bottom of the chart represents the number of foreigners that actually died in Luxembourg from 2001 to 2006 (arithmetic mean: 613 per year). Compare it with the blue line at the the top(arithmetic mean: 3133). Luxembourgers/foreigners death percentages: 83,6 / 16,4 %. Luxembourgers/foreigners total population percentages: 61,2 / 38,8 % (arithmetic means per year, again). Now think that some (most? half?) of this foreigners didn't choose to die in Luxembourg (road or work accident, sudden death, whatever...).Surprised? I'm not.And I'm also not too keen on the traditional idea of patriotism. In fact, I think most of it is a bunch of nonsense, and "national" traditions just a model for those who are too lazy or too stupid to think for themselves. But I do believe in citizenship, in responsibility, in rights and duties. The kind of citizenship built in Europe after the French Revolution (but not in France, it | | By: :u:b:i:k:u:o: | | |
| | Cpl. Cesar Laurean Captured In Mexico: Dual Citizenship Troubles | | 2008-04-11 10:31:00 | | I wanted to wait just a bit before tapping this out, as there seemed to be some concerns that weren't being immediately addressed by the media. Yes, Cpl. Cesar Laurean HAS been captured, in a small town in Mexico called Tacambaro. NO, he will not be facing the death penalty, as Mexico won't extradite when "death" is on the table. Here's the random details "filler" section. Laurean has been the target of an international manhunt for about 3 months now. Laurean was captured, almost by accident, when he walked up to a roadblock and was questioned. Laurean provided his REAL name, which clicked and got him arrested. Laurean stated he had been living in an avocado field for some time, living off the fruit from trees. Laurean now faces extradition to the U.S. to face murder charges in the death of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, who had accused him of rape. Her charred remains were located in Laurean's backyard. | | News: "Green card soldiers": Die in Iraq, US citizenship guaranteed. | | 2008-03-31 13:58:30 | | A young, ambitious immigrant from Guatemala who dreamed of becoming an architect. A Nigerian medic. A soldier from China who boasted he would one day become an American general. An Indian Sikh native. What do they have in common? They are among more than 100 foreign-born members of the U.S. military who earned American citizenship post-mortem, by dying in the Iraq war.Immigrants have always fought — and died — in America's wars. There are tens of thousands of foreign-born members in the US armed forces. Many have been naturalized, but more than 20,000 are not US citizens.Early in the Iraq war, Bush signed an executive order making the "Green card soldiers", as they are often called, eligible to apply for citizenship as soon as they enlist. Previously, legal residents in the military had to wait three years.Since Bush's order, nearly 37,000 soldiers have been naturalized. And 109 who lost their lives have been granted posthumous citizenship.Immigrant advocates have mixed feelings abo | | By: The Road to the Horizon | | |

| | Got A Letter From (BCIS) Bureau of Citizenship Immigration Service | | 2008-01-17 16:40:00 | | I got my letter from Bureau of Citizenship Immigration Service and only to find out it is about the receipt of application of my removal residency. My husband did pay more than $500 dollars for that and it seems the fee now is increasing and I do not know how much if I applied last year. Well, the important they accept my payment, meaning I will have a biometrics for unconditional residency card soon. I am glad about it so that I can apply for citizenship one day and once I am citizen I do not need to worry to get a visa when my husband and I will travel sometimes in overseas. Last year, we suppose to go to France and Italy but I have a problem, I do not have a visa and it is a big hassle to get it. So, we just decided to go to Switzerland as I have a green card and they do not require a visa who is a green card holder in USA. How I wish we did went to Southern part of Italy and Paris, so that it will be more fun travelling from other countries and it will be great as experience. Well, there is still next time, we might go there next year, and I might get my blue passport then. | | By: My Trails In Life | | |
