| Climate Change & Wildlife Habitat | | 2008-06-27 15:48:08 | | Many of our wildlife species are completely dependent on a very narrow band of acceptable climactic and environmental conditions in order to survive. Serious study of the effects of climate change on habitat must be undertaken and planning models must be tuned to reflect the new reality.
In short, when an ecosystem undergoes a dramatic change it can no longer sustain resident and migratory wildlife populations. New species of plant and animal life take over and indigenous species disappear.
So why don't animals and birds simply move as their habitat changes? The fact is that they do, and much can be learned by the studying the slow migration of species into regions where they were previously unknown. But what happens if they can't move? Take the animals and birds of the northern tundra for example. They rely on food sources that are only produced in regions of permafrost. As the permafrost vanishes due to sustained periods of higher than normal temperatures new types of vegetation wi | | By: Global Warming Articles - Information on Global Wa | | |
| | China now leading emitter of Climate Change ... | | 2008-06-22 19:22:00 | | "With bated breath we wait for Gore and DiCaprio’s upcoming films critical of China."
Here’s a quick one. If it hasn’t gained official status yet, it will soon. Yet another source reports that China has now “officially” and “clearly” surpassed the United States as the world’s leading emitter of purported climate warming gases.
“Worse, China's emissions are likely to continue growing substantially for years to come because they are tied to the country's strong economic growth and its particular mix of industry and power sources, the researchers said.” Read the rest here
It is now estimated that China's CO2 emissions are about 14% higher than those of the U.S. putting it at the top of the list of CO2 emitting countries with about a quarter (24%) share in total global CO2 emissions. Imagine of you will, the likely Chinese figure in say, 2025?

| Great Energy and Climate Change Site | | 2008-06-10 22:07:49 | | I've mentioned before that I am a member of the local planning board. At tonight's meeting I was reading a planning board publication that listed some top websites that deal with planning for local government. One of the sites that I read about was Post Carbon Cities. The website focuses on topics such as green building and transportation oriented development. It's amazing to me how far reaching the green building movement and carbon footprint "idea" has become. If you're at all interested in how these new environmental approaches are being utilized in local planning and government then I think you'll find this site a nice resource.Tags: home improvement, home improvement blog, post carbon cities | | By: Helpful Advice for Home Construction Improvement | | |
| | Fighting Climate Change and Global Warming | | 2008-06-08 09:56:42 | | Climate change is really changing, and global warming is getting hotter and hotter everyday. Why is this so?We hear suggestions from environmentalists that everyone should help in fighting environmental abuse. But it seems nobody is doing his/her share, and the efforts of a few are in vain. It is not enough - of course. The situation is getting worse. There's much environmental abuse, people are throwing their garbage when no one is watching. The factories and manufacturing plants are producing and making more and more new products to sell, there are more than enough in their stocks and inventories. And consumers are throwing their not-so-old appliances to give in to new ones. The ordinary American consumer buys more than he/she needs at home. It's just the way it is for an ordinary American, a culture of owning more than what he needs. Meanwhile, the rest of the world are in dire need, and are content with second-hand or third hand appliances and equipment. | | Taking The Temperature Of Global Climate Change | | 2008-06-01 07:51:28 | | The daily observation from the Solar & Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) clearly highlights a potential global problem. In 2008, nearly every day of each of the first four months of the year has recorded an observation of sunspot activity that is equal to zero. In fact, there have been only two days in the last four months when there has been any sunspot activity at all and each small event disappeared very quickly. The importance of sunspot inactivity is the continued confirmation that Sunspot Cycle 24 will be very weak or even delayed. The most recent solar minimum was in March of last year. The new cycle, No.24, was supposed to start soon after that, with a predicted gradual build-up in sunspot numbers. It has not yet happened. History would suggest that the longer the delay in cycle activity, the weaker this sunspot cycle will be.Consider that the future implications of this lack of sunspot activity may be enormous. Sunspots can be historically correlated with temperature change o | | By: Global Warming Articles - Information on Global Wa | | |
| | | Greenhouse Gases, Climate Change, Ozone Layer, Solar Power | | 2008-05-29 14:31:55 | | In last months, I've been noticing more and more articles, how the increased solar activity is the cause of global warming and climate changes. By their words, we should blame the solar power. What an utter nonsense! Luckily, it had been defeated by many very extensive scientific studies, including NASA. Climate changes and global warming in this very moment are entirely caused by human activity on earth. In this very short video Vermont state climatologist Lesley-Ann Dupigny-Giroux explains one of the major planetary components of climate change: greenhouse gases. The ozone layer protects us from UV radiation, but with increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the 'greenhouse effect' is largely increased, warming and deflecting more solar radiation back to the earth. Her experiment shows, how even on a very dark or snowing day the earth is still receiving UV radiation. We simply have no other choice, than to switch to free solar power and other renewable energy sources, if we want to | | By: Solar Shingles | | |
| | Bigfoot On Dry Dust - Climate Change And Ecological Damage | | 2008-05-23 06:32:51 | | The recently released annual report from the Climate Living Index states that Australia has the sixth biggest footprint in terms of fossil fuel use and ecological damage. My only surprise at this is that we are sixth and not higher! At the top is the USA, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Finland, Canada then Kuwait. The demands we are making on the natural resources, and by we I mean everyone, not just Australians, is growing and could well lead to our own demise; at the very least, a radically different lifestyle, for fewer people, and possibly only marginally above subsistence level. It is predicted that by 2050, 1.4 billion people will be living under water distress. This all translates to a steep decline the in biodiversity of species, such as fresh water fish, mammals, birds, plants. These issues are serious. Although we seem to think, or hope, that it will not affect us or our lifestyles, it will. | | Climate Change and Cancer | | 2008-05-14 06:41:59 | | According to encyclopedia, skin cancer and cataract are the first diseases to be encountered problem as a result of global warming. Though there are other problems predicted like drought on the highlands and flooding on the lowlands will be next problem, these two were not being experienced before. But as time passes by, little by little these droughts and flooding are now being experienced on some part of the world and skin cancer and cataracts are now becoming normal because these diseases are now curable. But droughts and flooding are obviously far different. Thought environmentalist and other authorities have rewired another action to support the people who will be affected, the exact problems of droughts and flooding, I think, has nothing to be done. Before this kind of situation manifested, there were already numerous information drives to prevent this things to happen, but human race seems to only active in the drive to inform the world. | | Climate Change Could Affect Burgundy Wine | | 2008-05-05 08:24:02 | | The affects of climate change is causing concern across the world and it seems that France is no exception.Last week, scientific experts gathered at the University of Burgundy in Dijon to discuss the effect that global warming could have on France's wine growing regions. One claimed that the changes would be so pronounced that by the end of the century it would be possible to grow Syrah grapes as far north as Champagne.Yet concerns have been raised that many parts of France, including the famous Burgundy region, could get too hot to grow grapes for wine.Burgundy celebrates its love of wine But it looks like for this year at least, the French wine industry is as booming as ever with Burgundy locals looking forward to a number of wine related events for 2007.Two that are set to prove particularly popular with both visitors and locals alike are the traditional Beaujolais Nouveau celebrations held in November and the Chablis Wine Festival which takes place in the same month. The former is hu | | By: Global Warming Articles - Information on Global Wa | | |

| | Climate Change - Climate Changes Due To Global Warming | | 2008-04-23 08:20:21 | | Earth's climate has always been in a state of constant change. It is part of a normal cycle of planetary events. Yet, most scientists agree that drastic changes are occurring which are due to unnatural global warming. The climate of the United States has already become warmer. In some locations, the average rise in temperature is four degrees Fahrenheit. Every single state shows some degree of warming. The first and second warmest years on record were 1998 and 2006, respectively. The years 1999 through 2005 ranked within the warmest 25 years in US history. In 2006, the annual average temperature was 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Recent warm years point to a climate change being brought on by global warming.Global warming has increased the level of drought. This is caused by the heat that is building up around the earth's surface. Excessive evaporation intensifies drought during the spring and fall. A major drought in the US lasted from 1999-2002. | | | Bush's Latest Proposal on Climate Change | | 2008-04-21 14:44:35 | | There is a clear consensus in the scientific community that global climate change or global warming is caused primarily by human activity. This conclusion has been endorsed by no less than 30 scientific societies and academies of science. This includes every single national academy of science of all the major industrialized countries. With such a strong consensus, why do we find the president Bush giving environmental double-talk and thwarting any reasonable environmental legislation?Real Cause for ConcernIs global warming a real danger? Yes - a catastrophic one. According to Don Fitz of Zmag Ecology states "in order to avoid catastrophic effects ... greenhouse gas emissions (mostly CO2) must be cut by 60-80% by 2050 (though the figure may need to be a 95% cut in the US)." What are these so called catastrophic effects? According to Wikipedia, "the predicted effects of global warming on the environment and for human life are numerous and varied." | | Climate Change - Health Concerns Related to Global Warming | | 2008-04-14 14:06:08 | | Global warming affects the environment as well as the health of the people living in that environment. Climatic changes impact human habitats as much as animal habitats. Human health is very sensitive to these changes.Global warming has caused rising temperatures in the environment. Devastating heat waves have recently occurred in areas of the world unaccustomed to extreme heat. Heat waves in Europe in 2003 lasted as long as two weeks, and temperatures soared as high as 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Although temperatures like this are common in parts of the American Southwest, European summers are usually much cooler. Over 35,000 people died there as a result of the heat waves that year. They were ill-equipped to deal with their changing habitat. There have also been heat waves in North America. One in 2006 claimed 226 lives. Another result of global warming is an increase in pollen in the air. Higher levels of carbon dioxide encourage the growth of more pollen-producing weeds. | | Global Warming - The Significance of Rising Water Temperatures And Climate Change | | 2008-04-13 14:18:11 | | An alarm is being raised about global warming causing dramatic rises in the temperature of ocean waters. Scientists are studying warming waters all over the globe to determine the extent of this rise in temperatures. The consequences of global warming are far-reaching. One of the most devastating effects of global warming is an impact on tropical storms. Hurricanes that would have been category 3 storms in years past are now category 4 or above because they are energized when they pick up warmer-than-normal ocean water. There has been a significant increase in these higher intensity storms over the last 35 years. In 2005, the Atlantic was bombarded with 27 tropical storms powerful enough to receive a name, and fifteen of them developed into hurricanes. Five of these storms were classified as category 4 hurricanes and four reached the level of category 5. Hurricane Katrina made a terrible mark on history in August of 2005. | | Forestry and Global Warming - How Can Our Forests Effect Climate Change | | 2008-04-03 09:13:40 | | The amount of land dedicated to forests, particularly old growth forests, could significantly reduce global warming. Forests are an important use of land in most countries, and in modern times they take on a new, environmental significance. Plant life scrubs carbon dioxide from the air. Carbon dioxide is a main cause of global warming and can be eliminated just by being in the vicinity of certain plants.Trees are the best carbon dioxide scrubbers found in nature. Old growth trees are especially good at removing carbon dioxide from the air and storing it within their cells. For this reason, old growth trees need to be preserved. The lumber trade argues that the old growth trees can be easily replaced by new trees, but this is simply not the case. New trees do not possess the abilities that old trees have of preventing global warming by trapping carbon dioxide. Some proponents of cutting suggest that certain new trees are capable of trapping more greenhouse gases than the old trees. This | | By: Global Warming Articles - Information on Global Wa | | |
| | Climate Change - Building Green to Reduce Global Warming | | 2008-04-02 08:17:01 | | Building green, the practice of designing and constructing buildings in an eco-friendly way, is one way to combat global warming. Houses contribute to global warming by emitting carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. In the United States, houses are responsible for 38% of the country's total carbon dioxide emissions.Building green starts with the materials that are used. Renewable and local materials are both good choices. Bamboo and straw are two examples of building materials that are easily renewable. Using materials that originate near the building site, such as stone or logs found on or near the building site, cuts down on transportation, another source of carbon dioxide emissions. Recycled materials represent another green building practice. Wood can be used from an older home that has been torn down, preventing further deforestation and the use of energy required to process trees into lumber.Minimizing the energy use needed to sustain a comfortable indoor temperature helps lessen the | | By: Global Warming Articles - Information on Global Wa | | |
| | Ice - The Price Of Climate Change | | 2008-03-31 09:13:38 | | When you receive the Seal you will recognize climate change as the coming End-times. You will see what is happening in the Arctic--there is much less "perennial" sea ice now and it is being replaced by short-lived sea ice.In the past 25 years much of the longer-lasting sea ice in the Arctic has melted. This includes ice that lasts for 2 to 5 years or even 6 years or more. Now there appears to be plenty of ice cover, but it is seasonal ice.The seasonal ice lasts for about a year. It increases in the winter and melts away by the end of summer, so it lasts 1 year or less. Now more than 2/3 of the sea ice in the Arctic is this seasonal ice.The winter of 2007-2009 was the coldest winter since 2001. That means plenty of seasonal ice formed in the cold. But that is not necessarily good news, because that ice is not likely to replace the lost perennial ice. That ice buildup is likely to be gone within a year. So the weather variation of a cooler year seems to be building up some ice, but it wou | | By: Global Warming Articles - Information on Global Wa | | |
| | Australian wine industry feels heat from climate change | | 2008-03-26 06:53:00 | | MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Australian grape growers reckon they are the canary in the coalmine of global warming, as a long drought forces winemakers to rethink the styles of wine they can produce and the regions they can grow in. The three largest grape-growing regions in Australia, the driest inhabited continent on earth, all depend on irrigation to survive. The high cost of water has made life tough for growers. Some say they probably won't survive this year's harvest, because of the cost of keeping vines alive. Water prices surged above A$1,000 a megaliter last year from around A$300.

| | Answers to 5 Common Questions About Climate Change | | 2008-03-24 23:32:04 | | With an Academy Award for "An Inconvenient Truth" and a Nobel Peace Prize, Al Gore is arguably the most public face associated with environmental issues today. Yet with all of the discussion surrounding climate change, global warming, greenhouse gases, renewable energy, and fuel conservation, many people don't understand the basics. These and other catchphrases are often used as shorthand when discussing the results of scientific studies, but those studies are frequently written in such a scholarly way that they're inaccessible to the average person. Here, then, are answers to five common questions about environmental issues.1. Isn't global warming just a theory?Global warming is a theory, but that doesn't mean it's not real. Theories are the basis of all scientific work, whether that work is in medicine, astrophysics, or climate change. The evidence scientists have collected thus far indicates that ice caps are melting at an unprecedented rate, weather patterns are changing, and that | | By: Global Warming Articles - Information on Global Wa | | |
| | Climate Change - Forecasting the Future of Global Warming | | 2008-03-23 23:14:37 | | Most people agree that the long-term effects of global warming will be disastrous for the planet and its inhabitants. But predicting the exact future impact it will have is a very complex task. Those who make predictions about its long-term effects are not likely to do so with one hundred percent accuracy. Some of the difficulties inherent in forecasting future effects of global warming have to do with those same factors that make it hard for meteorologists to predict the weather correctly on a day-to-day basis. Winds can cool the air or warm it depending on the direction they take. Cloud cover can cool a hot day. Air masses move and cause storms as cool fronts and warm fronts collide. Ocean currents can change the temperature of the land on which they strike. The earth's atmosphere is constantly in a cycle of evaporation and precipitation. As ice melts in the Polar Regions due to global warming, the ocean temperatures are affected. Evaporation rates are in flux. I found this tremendously helpful in determining who cares and who just pretends to care. Based on my light analysis, it seems that the Democrats care more about this issue, which isn't much of a surprise. | | Fix environment without U.S., Gore tells climate change summit | | 2007-12-15 00:51:00 | | NUSA DUA, Indonesia -The Bush administration is the main obstacle to progress in international efforts to fight global warming, but the rest of the world should move on without it, former U.S. vice-president Al Gore said Thursday night during a special appearance at the United Nations climate change summit."I am not an official of the United States and I am not bound by the diplomatic niceties," said Gore in an emotional speech to delegates that lasted close to an hour. "So I am going to speak an inconvenient truth: My own country, the United States, is principally responsible for obstructing progress here in Bali. We all know that."

The study will gauge their worries on the travel plans of two of the largest visitor groups to Australia.A tender document describing the study notes concern that Britons have an "exaggerated understanding" of the greenhouse emissions contributed by aircraft.

| | | Al Gore Wins the Nobel Peace Prize Along with the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): Is This a Joke? | | 2007-10-15 01:57:42 | | The Nobel Peace Prize has officially become meaningless. It was pretty ridiculous when Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin were nominated for the Prize, and Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter won. But now, apparently, the award is being given to the biggest failure in the History of the World: Al Gore.Al Gore, who rode the short bus to school, lost a Presidential election, and created a propaganda film that needs a warning label to protect students in Britain, has just won the Nobel Peace Prize. Pathetically, Al Gore gets to share this award with the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), an organization where real scientists had to sue to get their names removed from the list of contributors because of its baseless conclusions. The “World’s Greatest Grandpa” has officially become a more prestigious award. The justification for giving the Prize to Al Gore was, "His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change." Furthermore, "He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted." What!? Al Gore created propaganda films with objective falsehoods, demonstrates abject hypocrisy with everything he does, and should be awarded for it!?Thankfully, John Edwards had to provide his specious input: "The Nobel Committee's recognition of Vice President Gore shines a bright light on the most inconvenient truth of all — the selection of George Bush as president has endangered the peace and prosperity of the entire planet. Two terms later, Americans are ready for bold change," Edwards said. How did George Bush get into this conversation? Moreover, Al Gore continued to chant his obnoxious mantra. "The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level," Gore said. This is obviously why Al Gore travels on private jets and emits more CO2 than most Americans. But, remember, he has convinced the world to invest in carbon credits so he can take a cut of the profits.Al Gore better run for President; I want to see him cry again when he loses.(source)Related EditorialsBritish Students Saved From Al Gore Indoctrination Global Warming Movie, “Inconvenient Truth.”Betty Williams: Militant Nobel Peace Prize WinnerJudge Martin Jenkins Temporarily Saves the World: Dismisses Dangerous Global Warming LawsuitThe Most Dangerous Class-Action Lawsuit of Our Time: Suing For Causing Global Warming and HurricanesHannity’s America: Sean Hannity Exposes Al Gore and Liberals with Their Global Warming HypocrisyLiberals Learn that Carbon Offsets are a Swindle, Proceed to Eat their OwnGlobal Warming: The New ReligionAl Gore and "Live Earth" Drown 10 Polar BearsAl Gore: More of an Environmental Disaster than a Compact Florescent Light BulbGlobal Warming InsanityLatest Liberal Guilt Trip: Humans Are Using Too Much Solar EnergyWalking Causes Climate Change / Global Warming: Had Enough Yet?Environmentalism and the Global Warming Religion: An Agent of the Catholic ChurchJohn Edwards Tells American Middle-Class to Sacrifice their SUVsJohn Stossel Debates Robert F. | | Climate change disaster is upon us, warns UN | | 2007-10-05 19:47:00 | | A record number of floods, droughts and storms around the world this year amount to a climate change "mega disaster", the United Nation's emergency relief coordinator, Sir John Holmes, has warned. Sir John, a British diplomat who is also known as the UN's under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, said dire predictions about the impact of global warming on humanity were already coming true. "We are seeing the effects of climate change. Any year can be a freak but the pattern looks pretty clear to be honest. That's why we're trying ... to say, of course you've got to deal with mitigation of emissions, but this is here and now, this is with us already," he said.

| | New global warning on climate change | | 2007-10-02 11:09:00 | | Average temperatures will rise 1C by 2030 and could increase as much as 5C in Australia by 2070 if global greenhouse emissions are not cut drastically. A major report by the CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology, released yesterday, warns marine ecosystems, including the Great Barrier Reef, could be damaged beyond repair if temperatures rise more than 3C and alpine ecosystems are at risk from increasing temperatures. The Climate Change in Australia report concedes a 1C temperature rise is inevitable but human activity will dictate increases beyond 2030. Under a low emissions scenario, in which greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are stabilised, temperatures may increase 2.5C by 2070.

| | UN Framework Convention on Climate Change meeting in Bali this December | | 2007-08-20 01:58:00 | | As an energy exporter and a carbon-intensive economy, Australia can play a decisive role in the international response to climate change. The Government's pillars might at first look superficially impressive. But when we examine the substance, it becomes clear that the five pillars don't actually hold up much weight. The first pillar, support for progress towards a new global framework, is the Government's most abject failure. This failure began with a negative approach to the original Kyoto Protocol negotiations, which saw it achieve the dubious honour of being one of only three industrialised countries to negotiate an increased target of emissions from the 1990 baseline level.

| | Climate change protest at Heathrow | | 2007-08-14 01:01:00 | | Hundreds of climate demonstrators set up a tent camp next to London's Heathrow airport on Monday and threatened "direct action" at the world's busiest air hub to protest against global warming. Police with batons were on alert at the field where the camp is based, within one kilometer of the airport complex. The campaigners plan a week of activities they say will culminate on Sunday in 24 hours of "direct action" in a bid to force the government to halt the planned expansion of the airport, which they argue will exacerbate climate change.

| | Walking Causes Climate Change / Global Warming: Had Enough Yet? | | 2007-08-08 02:58:27 | | I have had it with these global warming nutcases. They need to be stopped soon or they will be the death of us. I thought these lunatics had hit a new low when they said that humans are using too much solar energy, but this new story may be worse. This new story is so much worse in fact, that I think rational people are beginning to realize that global warming is a multi-billion dollar industry perpetuated by guilt.Let us first examine what we have been told by these liberals so far: 1) We destroy the planet by driving to work; 2) providing for our families; 3) using electricity; 4) eating meat; 5) using too much solar energy; and 6) wiping our rear ends. Now, however, we should also be ashamed for simply walking. Do not walk anymore, it is worse than driving! If this were a joke, I would be laughing. But, they are serious. What is worse is that they are also brainwashing our next generation into believing this nonsense.Repent!!
