| Frei: Granato's Coaching Ability Is "Suspect" | | 2008-08-06 07:30:34 | | I like doing traditional media-style headlines. You cherry pick a single word from the article you're headlining, and then build a false impression of what the article is about using just that one word. This will all make sense, so stick with me.
Terry Frei, one of "our" reporters, posted a piece yesterday on ESPN.com that ranks---kind of---the NHL coaches according to ability and reputation. It's not a 1-30 list, but a grouping of categories that ranges from "The Elite" to "The Suspect" and three additional coaches who have never coached in the NHL before.
Of course, cruising at the top of the list is that one guy Mike Babcock, who tops "The Elite" category and shares it with Jacques Lemaire, Barry Trotz and Lindy Ruff. Following that group is the second category, called "The Proven." There we find guys like Randy Carlyle, Ken Hitchcock and Ron Wilson. After them comes "The Jury's Still Out," which includes recent Jack Adams winner Bruce Boudreau, W | | By: Mile High Hockey

| Cantona as Coaching Staffs ? | | 2008-07-06 22:56:00 | | A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Eric's plan to return as a manager for Manchester United replacing Alex Ferguson sometime in the future.Well, it looks like we don't have to wait very long for the King's return to Old Trafford.According to one of his close friend to the Sunday Express, Eric is now considering a move back to Old Trafford to become one of the coaching staffs for Manchester United."Eric is very interested in a chance to become one of the coaching staffs at Old Trafford", the man said.Coincidentally this emerges as Carlos Queiroz is said to leave for the Portugal job. If Queiroz does leave, then this will leave a spot in the assistant manager spot, something that I think any Manchester United fan will agree will be most fit to be filled with Eric Cantona."He enjoys his life, playing and directing a couple of movies, playing beach soccer, etc. But he always want to manage his own team with his own style of play, and Alex Ferguson totally supports him for that.", added th | | By: Manchester United fan Blog | | |

| Torre May Not Have Accepted All Star Coaching Gig | | 2008-05-17 11:17:00 | | Associated Press:"I'm with a new team now," Torre told The Associated Press Friday night after his Los Angeles Dodgers were beaten 4-2 by the Angels. " (Yankees manager) Joe Girardi is a coach for the All-Star Game, and deservedly so. They usually take the local city's managers as coaches. Besides, I'm not sure that if I got a call, I would say yes. Going over there at this point in time, I may serve as more of a distraction than to go over there and help the manager win a ballgame."National League manager Clint Hurdle, who guided the Colorado Rockies to their first pennant last year, decided not to add Torre to his coaching staff for the game on July 15. Instead he invited San Diego manager Bud Black and New York Mets skipper Willie Randolph, who was a member of Torre's coaching staff in the Bronx for 11 seasons — one of them as bench coach."I have no problem with that," Torre said. | The Importance Of Dissertation Coaching | | 2008-03-12 01:24:00 | | Although the dictionary plainly defines coaching as the job of a professional coach, this activity involves a sophisticated form of teaching aimed to help individuals in the development of inner qualities and physical aptitudes, or just for gaining self-esteem and confidence.Coaching is a term that was coined in the Great Britain during the mid-19th century in relation to sporting activities. Once the idea of coaching took root in the United States, coaches were hired to encourage sports teams, and the way in which coaches helped athletes to develop their full potential did not go unnoticed by professionals in many other fields.Derived from sports coaching, nutrition writing a dissertation coaching and fitness coaching emerged in the last 20 years to help people develop a sense of wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle. | Broncos Round Out Coaching Staff, Name Fisch Receivers Coach | | 2008-02-27 14:21:24 | | The Denver Broncos on Wednesday named Jedd Fisch as their wide receivers coach, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. Fisch worked as the Baltimore Ravens' assistant quarterbacks coach in 2007 and has spent the last seven seasons in the NFL during stints with Baltimore (2004-07) and Houston (2001-03). Fisch was on the Ravens' coaching staff during each of the last four years, including the 2006 campaign in which Baltimore posted a 13-3 record and won the AFC North. He worked as an offensive assistant (2004) and assistant quarterbacks/wide receivers coach (2005-06) with Baltimore before he was named the club's assistant quarterbacks coach in 2007. Although injuries forced Baltimore to use three different starting quarterbacks in 2007, the Ravens finished sixth in the NFL in lowest interception percentage (2.5) with Fisch as assistant quarterbacks coach. | Dolphins Coaching Rumors; Chad Johnson? | | 2008-01-28 14:52:00 | | The past week has been a busy one for the Dolphins organization. They've hired a slew of assistant coaches already, and were being linked to a pair of Saints coaches over the weekend. One, special teams coach John Bonamego, has accepted their offer. The other, Pete Carmichael Jr., now looks like he won't be leaving New Orleans to be our offensive coordinator. Don't ask me what happened with Dan Henning, because I have no idea.As a potential replacement for Carmichael, who was supposed to be pretty close to taking the job (as was Henning, so that shows how much rumors are worth), the Fins are interviewing Atlanta coordinator Hue Jackson. The Jackson interview is interesting first because Atlanta's offense wasn't exactly a powerhouse last season, though to be fair the personnel they had out on the field would be hard to work with for even the most innovative playcallers. But more importantly, as PFT mentions, it might fuel speculation about Chad Johnson being traded to the Dolphins. Jackson served as Chad's WR coach throughout most of his career and a reunion would be an good thing for everyone involved. You might recall I made a note of Chad's potential interest in leaving Cincinnati for Miami a few weeks ago. Then I doubted the possibility of such a move being made. I still doubt it. However, these recent developments can't be dismissed. A talent like Chad Johnson would certainly be a welcome addition to this team. It would take a lot of pressure off John Beck and it would give Ted Ginn room to run around and grow as a WR. | | By: State of Miami | | |

| Bills Playing Solitaire as Coaching Carousel Turns | | 2008-01-16 07:19:18 | | [editor's note, by Brian Galliford] As usual, jri111 is very adept at knowing exactly what I'm planning to write about, and beating me to the punch. This is a very good analysis of the coaching carousel that is going on right now, and Buffalo's strange approach to filling out their offensive staff. Read and enjoy (and by enjoy, I mean, of course, become as frustrated and perplexed as I am at the lack of news)! End Note So San Francisco was the first to hire their new offensive coordinator (Mike Martz) and it looks like St. Louis is close to doing the same. According to Rotoworld, Hue Jackson is said to have been offered the offensive coordinator jobs in both St. Louis and Washington. Now Washington is interesting because it's all but certain that Gregg Williams is going to be their next coach (God help them! - I live in DC and keep telling people they don't know what they're getting, but they seem optimistic about him - who knows why!). Anyways, Al Saunders still has the title of coordinator, so it's interesting that Jackson says he has the opportunity to "call plays there." The leading candidates for the Chiefs are Mike Shula and Chan Gailey. Former Giants head coach Jim Fassel was interviewed yesterday and Gailey has been interviewed twice so far. Shula is up next and then a decision will soon follow. Rotoworld also reports that Tony Sparano could be named Miami's head coach as early as tomorrow. If that were to happen then Miami could start looking for an offensive coordinator. It remains to be seen whether Sparano would want to call plays himself. Obviously, if Saunders is out in Washington, they will need a new OC too. Atlanta, after they hire a coach, will also need to find an OC. With Norm Chow out in Tennessee, it appears that Denver's Mike Heimerdinger (Assistant Head Coach/Offense) is the leading candidate. Of course, if Heimerdinger leaves Denver, the Broncos would be in the market as well. Apperantly Chan Gailey would be the man | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

| The Latest on the Coaching Search | | 2008-01-08 23:03:35 | | Like many, I will often times get on the case of Miami Herald writer Armando Salguero, and for good reason (most of the time). But I got to hand it to the guy. He gets the latest information and quickly informs his readers either via an article or his blog. So kudos to him, as he supplies us with the very latest on the Dolphins' head coaching search. There's a lot of info here, so we'll take it piece by piece. First of all, as many know, Vikings' defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier was in for an interview on Monday. However, his interview didn't conclude until yesterday. That goes against the idea that Frazier was solely interviewed because he is a minority and interviewing him satisfies the "Rooney Rule." In fact, even Frazier doesn't believe this conspiracy theory that's going around. Here's what he said: "I think [the rule] was respected. | His name is Jack Del Rio, Coaching toward the Super Bowl: Press Conference | | 2008-01-07 16:51:52 | | This is Fan-Tastic! Ryan Parker sent this to me, and it's worth watching. To go with this, here's your Monday Afternoon Press Conference With Jack Del Rio That was a huge, huge win last night. Certainly a great experience for us, and what a thrill. Finishing that ballgame, that was a thrilling finish and it took everything
it took a complete effort from our football team. As we have had all year, we had guys step up. We lose John Henderson early in the game, a guy like Derek Landri steps up and ends up getting a hat trick. He gets a sack, an interception, and recovered a fumble at the end of the game. Just a great example of the way weve had guys all year - step up, step in, play well and help us win, and Im really for him and happy for our team. Eight teams after today will go on into next weekends ballgames. Were one of those eight; were proud of that. We understand regardless of who we draw next week, and thatll be determined later today, regardles | | By: Big Cat Country - An Unoffical Jacksonville Jaguar

Parcells was hired as the Dolphins executive vice president of football operations Dec. 20. He has already hired Jeff Ireland from the Cowboys to become Miami’s general manager. | College Football Coaching Changes: What are the grades? | | 2007-11-27 20:45:00 | | While the college football season is not officially over just yet, plenty of schools nationwide are already firing their head coaches. In some cases, I praise athletic directors for getting rid of a coach that has overstayed his welcome. On the other hand, some coaches should still be leading their football teams. Here are my grades on the coaches firing.Washington State: Bill Doba; Grade B+It's always sad to see a class act guy like Doba step down as head coach but over the past few seasons it has been increasingly clear that his time has passed. Washington State has failed to reach a bowl game since 2003. Pullman has always been a tough place to win but winning six or seven games over a four to five period run is not too much to ask for. This is a good move for both Doba and Washington State as it will allow the Cougars to return back to respectability.Texas A&M: Dennis Franchione; Grade A-Whatever happened to the dominant Texas A&M football teams that we used to see decades | | By: West Coast Bias

Parcells, who resigned as Cowboys coach after last season, did not close the door on returning to the sidelines. He also fondly recalled his time with the Giants. Q. At some press conferences last season, when your New York Giants teams were mentioned, you cut your answers short, saying, "Don't get me started about that." Why is that topic such an emotional tug? A. It was the team I got started with. If it wasn't for a lot of those players, I wouldn't have been able to go forward in my career. I may have never been able to go as far as I have. | Organized Coaching Sessions Review | | 2007-05-18 22:24:15 | | Edgar Thompson, in his latest blog entry, talks a little bit about Miami's recent OCS or organized coaching sessions, that the Dolphins just finished a week of. These sessions are voluntary and the NFL allows each team to have 14 of them leading up to training camp in July. The Dolphins will also have some next week as well. In his blog post, Thompson talks about some of the going-ons at the sessions. First and foremost is the workouts of Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper was seen participating in QB drills, such as handing off, rolling out, and making passes without any defenders. He did not participate in team drills. However, Thompson reports that Daunte's arm looked good, saying "Culpepper's arm looks fine. He moves a bit gingerly, but once his feet are set he delivers the ball with tremendous velocity and good accuracy." That's very good news, though we don't know how much longer he will be in Miami with all of the Trent Green talk | | By: The Phinsider
