    Web Grades: Colorado Senate
    2008-06-30 21:05:47
Today, we examined campaign websites from the Colorado Senate race pitting Democratic Congressman Mark Udall against former House Republican Bob Schaffer. Don't forget to check out our previous web grades as well.Mark Udall (markudall.com)The Udall campaign breaks with the standard red, white, and blue motif, opting for a somewhat bland tan palette. The site has a modern look and feel that includes all the relevant features we're looking for. Viewers are greeted with a rotating series of images and links on the main page, which also includes links to the latest blog posts, campaign videos, and upcoming events. The biography section includes Udall's personal history as well a page touting his bipartisan record in Congress. The issues section is very impressive. Udall writes at length on 23 topics, including information on relevant past votes as well as future plans. The news section is hidden somewhat under the "About Mark" heading and the archive of campaign releases is rather limi

Article I Can't Read: Colorado Signs Swedish Bad Boy
    2008-06-12 13:04:41
Who is Per Ledin?  Apparently, he's a Swedish hockey player who, according to every single thing I've read about him in the last two and a half minutes, is an "agitator."  I wonder how much agitating one can do in the National Hockey League if one only speaks Swedish. Cue the Swedish Chef jokes.  Du Bork Bork. This is all over the HF Boards and the Avs forum right now, so I had to jump on.  Word is that Ledin has signed a $600,000, one-year, one-way contract with the Avs.  One-way means he won't be playing in the minors, kiddos. According to the article: Per Ledin, 29, är framme vid målet – en plats i NHL. I can discern a couple of things.  First, Colorado is Peter Forsber

Cultural Chaos In Colorado: Ritter Signs S.B. 200
    2008-05-30 10:20:00
I knew this was going to eventually happen. But no one believes an obviously "bigoted" Conservative. Nope. Can't believe him. But now it has happened. Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter has gone ahead and signed S.B. 200. And thanks to a little clause at the end, there's apparently no recourse. Some crap about being enacted in the cause of emergency.Right,.......But I'm betting that NAMBLA, GLAAD, GLESN, and all those other obscene organizations are about to enjoy a veritable feast of kiddie flesh, courtesy of the "bought and paid for" Colorado Legislation. I suppose millionaire gay activist Tim Gill and the rest of his radical friends are about to be bombarded with thank you cards from these groups. Why? Because it was their money (through mass campaign contributions) that bought this decision. And it's not likely that the Colorado Supreme Courts will do anything about it as they have a pretty "liberal" reputation as well. So, now, NO PUBLIC DOMAIN can refuse a male from using a females restroom.

Ad Wars: Outside Groups Take Aim In Colorado
    2008-05-21 12:10:36
Check out our entire video library at Political Realm TV.Presidential Watch: John McCainThe left-leaning MoveOn.org has launched a new ad urging John McCain to fire aide Charlie Black. The ad attacks Black for lobbying for "the world's worst tyrants." Several other McCain campaign staffers have recently resigned due to their past lobbying work, which could undermine McCain's message of reform. Senate Watch: ColoradoDemocrat Mark Udall and Republican Bob Schaffer both launched their ad campaigns this week and now two outside groups are getting in on the act as well. Coloradans for Economic Growth, a group that seems to have been formed specifically to support Bob Schaffer, is up with a new ad, "Sources," which touts Schaffer's support for alternative energy. The League of Conservation Voters, a left-leaning environmental group, is airing its own ad, "Fingerprint," which attacks Schaffer for his associations with the oil and gas industry. Colorado Needs "Water Day" Earth Day Reflections
    2008-04-22 08:59:31
The different domains of the globe can be separated by categories: earth, air, and water. Earth Day celebrates all three domains collectively in an attempt to encourage each of us to nurture and respect our own relationship with the environment. But in Colorado there seems to be a more pressing concern, our water, or better said, the lack of it.Yesterday afternoon I watched a small dark grey plume of smoke over a ridge in Castle Rock. I later learned that two residential homes were burned but at the time I felt the sickening dread of "fire season". My family was intimately involved in the Hayman Fire in 2000. Dread, fueled by slippery winds and erratic fire paths, toyed with our emotions and our property for days. Would we be spared? Sadly we watched acres of gorgeous Colorado mountain terrain be swallowed up in a voracious fireball. Our arid climate not only fuels fires but also the pine beetle devastation that has stripped our ski slopes, leaving the scrawny brown remains of the once

Impression from the 8th Annual Aikido Summit at the Denver Buddhist Temple in Denver, Colorado – March 22nd 2008
    2008-04-07 14:07:00
Edgar Johannsen Sensei's personality and drive is, perhaps, the only reason that the Colorado Aikido Summit has come to fruition once again. It is only because of Edgar's amiable, easy going disposition that he is able to successfully blend with all the diverse personalities in the Colorado Aikido community and bring us all together each year to share in our similarities and learn from our differences. The Aikido Summit is a great place for younger Aikido students to experience a wide array of Aikido styles once they have attained their black belt and created a foundation from which to build. It is also an opportunity for more veteran black belts to get refocused on their own training and decide what aspects to develop on in the coming year. Having attended several previous Colorado Aikido Summits, this year's was in many ways very much the same as years past. Therefore, it was my responsibility to be sure that I took away from it something new and different. The Aikido styles repres

    Find Colorado Farmers' Markets
    2008-04-06 10:00:39
The Colorado gold rushes filled many with hopes of wealth and encouraged them to go to great lengths to pan for rare gold nuggets. Today, living in a state where most think vegetables and fruits come from a major grocery store, I feel like the dedicated gold seeker as I look for fresh, locally grown early spring produce. The longer spring days are urging my body to find local produce that still has its water and nutrient content in abundance. Because our climate is not like California or Florida, most of us have to wait until June or July to shop our local markets. At least that is what I used to think but Santa Fe has a winter farmer's market. I haven't been yet, but I am curious to see what is available there. Maybe Coloradan's just aren’t that committed to local produce.Thankful a few hearty souls open the farmer's markets early so I plan to show up right away to see what is available.Boulder's Farmers Market opens April 5, 2008 Fort Collins' Farmers Market opens April 19, 2008High

    Eating Local in Colorado
    2008-03-31 06:17:43
The Colorado growing season is starting to take root and I can't wait. Last summer my husband and I visited a local farm using "zero impact" agriculture methods to grow the most delicious, satisfying local produce I've ever tasted. When I eat fresh organic vegetables and fruits I need to keep a napkin handy because they burst with water and flavor. Organic vegetables and fruits make conventional fruits and vegetables taste like Styrofoam blocks in comparison to organic live foods. I didn’t think eating vegetables could taste any better until I tried the produce from Willow Grove Farms in Castle Rock, Colorado. Located just off Highway 85, Willow Grove Farms is oddly sandwiched between Castle Pines and a large new-home development in Castle Rock called The Meadows.Willow Grove is a sustainable farm whose compact rows of vegetables and herbs takes up little space and minimal water but provides ample supply and abundant flavor. I created the most interesting, nutrient rich salads using

Buying a Colorado home at auction is a process fraught with uncertainty
    2008-03-16 04:51:00
With foreclosure rates spiking, more homebuyers may heed the siren song of the auction, a sound that can mean sizable savings for some. But it also might mean you're the proud owner of a money pit. Opportunities to buy homes at auction are on the rise. Some experts say the share of homes sold at auction could double this year. One potential advantage for today's auction shoppers is inventory. The number of foreclosed properties is clearly on the rise.

Boulder, Colorado Is Insane Attacking Cats and a Pink Poodle

The Avalanche did not react to this well, On the fight's replays were where everyone's opinions dwelled. On these events, Detroit took Kris Draper's side. Why Pursue Colorado Lasik Refractive Eye Surgery Anyway?
    2008-02-01 06:19:00
It goes like this: if you have an eye condition (namely hyperopia, myopia, or astigmatism), you have the option of pursuing a Colorado Lasik refractive eye surgery procedure so that you have no need of corrective prosthesis like contact lenses or eyeglasses anymore. A Colorado Lasik procedure is basically the laser eyesight correction procedure done in a Colorado eye surgeon’s clinic or in a hospital.Lasik eye surgery maybe just one of the disciplines your Colorado Lasik eye surgeon specializes in. The Colorado Lasik doctor may also specialize in other forms of laser eye surgery (namely Epi-Lasik, LASEK, and PRK.) If you are scared of undergoing Lasik eye surgery at your Colorado Lasik eye surgeon’s clinic, or if the Colorado Lasik doctor doesn’t feel that is the most appropriate medical procedure you should undergo, try asking if custom Lasik or monovision Lasik are better for you.[ lasik , lasek , lasic ]One thing you should never do is agree to a Colorado Lasik refractive eye

    2008-01-23 12:13:00
Computer rentals in the Mile-High City have been a part of our daily routine since 1988. Our Tech-Travel Agents rank Denver Computer Rentals in the top 20 most requested destinations for their computer rental clients. Though it has been several years ago now I do believe Denver was the destination for the single largest order I was ever personally evolved with. That order was for the rental of three fully populated racks of IBM blade servers. Not every client however has the type of project that requires that much processing power. So of course the more common Denver computer rental scenario might be desktop systems for a training class, or a LCD projector for a presentation, or even a laptop for a traveling executive who might be in town for a meeting. Our Denver computer rental inventory and our services are among the most diverse of any computer rental firm in the country. Englewood Author’s Novel Inspired by Colorado Castle Owner
    2008-01-15 19:45:30
A Scottish castle brimming with European antiques is not what you would expect to see in Northern Douglas County. Nor would you expect to run into over 3,000 acres of pristine undeveloped land just east of Castle Pines Village. Even odder, this castle and the land was owned and governed by a Southern belle who raised cattle.Colorado's beauty and sunny days attract all sorts of people with interesting pasts and Tweet Kimble brought her life steeped in European culture to our Rocky Mountain State.Englewood author Corinne Joy Brown was one of the last writers to interview Tweet before she died in 1999. Tweet's character was so strong and so fascinating to Corinne that Tweet served as the inspiration for her historic novel "MacGregor's Lantern." The castle Tweet owned was modeled after Scottish castles. During the research for Corinne's book, Corinne discovered that the Scots dominated in the ranching industry in Colorado and Wyoming. It may have been this influence that encouraged the castle design at Cherokee Ranch.Maggie Dowling is the main character in MacGregor's Lantern. Her determination is reminiscent of the stories people still tell about Tweet Kimble. Maggie moved out West, accepting an engagement proposal from one of her father's clients. She expected adventure, which she certainly encountered but it wasn’t packaged the way she expected. Many women during the late 1800’s also traveled west with their husbands or to meet up with their fiancés and many found the western frontier too difficult to bear so they returned home. Returning home was never an option in Maggie's mind. She committed to the decision and for better or worse, she was going to see that decision through. This story combines independence and determination with usual western flair.I love reading stories about strong, determined women, so I gladly encourage you to MacGregor's Lantern by Corinne Joy Brown. If you live in Colorado or when you plan a visit, make sure you take a tour of Ch

    Industry generated $24.3B in Colorado
    2008-01-14 18:41:00
Colorado's commercial real estate industry had less of an economic impact in 2006, but still accounted for more than 10.5 percent of the state's economic output, according to a new study. The study, by the Colorado chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), found that the sector generated $24.3 billion last year. That figure is slightly lower than the commercial real estate sector's average performance in the state, because of the current construction downturn.

New Uniforms: Toronto Sticks To Tradition, Colorado Screws The Pooch
    2007-09-13 06:04:00
Well, there were two RBK Edge "uniform system" unveilings yesterday, with one being a minor success and the other an unmitigated disaster. First of all, let me congratulate the five of the Original Six for their conservative approach to the new jersey designs. Sure, some would argue that the past is boring, but the past is what gives all professional sports the meaning they have. That and steroids. But mostly it's a respect for tradition that ties fans together and gives a sport its cultural weight. Boston, the Rangers, Detroit, Montreal and now Toronto have all maintained their uniform traditions with subtle, hard-to-notice changes to old-school looks. Response among Maple Leafs fans has been generally positive so far. The Blackhawks, the only team that could conceivably ruin the streak, release their new look tomorrow on September 14th. Let's hope for the best.On the flip side is the Colorado Avalanche. They screwed up big time. Like Florida, Nashville and the Islanders b

Colorado Elementary School Bans the Game of Tag
    2007-08-30 23:05:03
After giving this issue some thought, I have come to the conclusion that instead of deciding to ban the game of Tag from the school, more emphasis should have been focusing upon the inappropriate bullying behavior of the particular children who were involved. I've said this countless times in my life - every single school in every single district in our country should have a designated class that deals with the subject of bullying and its negative effects. READ ABOUT THIS HEREPractice non-violence in your lives. You will be leaving your children a beautiful legacy.

    Colorado Rockies are rockin'
    2007-08-14 19:22:00
When Steve Phillips of ESPN picked the Padres to win the NL West this week, it was no surprise. But the Colorado Rockies to earn the NL wild card?Maybe Phillips is on to something. The Rockies, who begin a three-game series tonight in San Diego, are starting to resemble the Blake Street Bombers teams of the mid-1990s that put the franchise on the map.Vinny Castilla and Larry Walker are long-gone from the Rockies, but the current talent they have is quite impressive (including 13 of 25 homegrown players.)Colorado has a batting order that can stand up to just about anybody with the likes of Willy Taveras, Matt Holliday, Garrett Atkins, Brad Hawpe, Todd Helton and Troy Tulowitzki.Add starting pitchers such as Jeff Francis and Aaron Cook to the mix, and then you can see why the Rockies are talking playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.Colorado is just two games behind the Padres in the wild card race and five games in back of Arizona in the NL West. The Rockies could go a long way

Castle Rock Colorado Residents Over 50 Taking Up Martial Arts
    2007-08-08 15:27:00
There's something strange going on in Castle Rock. Residents over fifty years old are beginning to practice a Japanese martial art called Aikido (pronounced 'eye-key-doh').Aikido isn't exclusively for men and women over fifty, but Aikido does seem to have an affinity for that age group. "I think it is because Aikido is a great form of exercise and a powerful form of self-defense, but still allows you to go to work on each morning without being covered in bruises and broken bones," says instructor Jeff Albright.Husband and wife instructors Jeff and Miho Albright don't seem surprised that their Aikido program is attracting people over fifty. "We have a tendency to attract more a intellectual, mature and introspective student, which may come with age, I suppose" he continued. "Our students really are here to become better people. It makes it a pleasure to teach them and we learn so much from them, as well." According to the instructors, there are no young, "hot-heads" with a chip on their shoulder in the program. "When those kind of people do show up, they tend not to stay," said Miho Albright. "Our program attracts people that are interested in having fun and growing personally, not people who are interested in learning how to hurt others."Jeff and Miho say that working adults tend to get forget that it is important for them to play, too. It's important for their health, their fitness, their mental state and even their social life. Aikido is a great opportunity to cover all of these needs. "Kids already have so many different activities to choose from. Our program is specifically targeted to adults," says Miho. "We allow teenagers 15-17 to participate, if they demonstrate the necessary maturity, but so far, we're an all adult program. Our focus is on providing adults with a fun, friendly, and physical environment to de-stress and grow as people."Castle Rock Aikido also tailors to adults by holding weekday classes in the evenings. Classes don't start until 8 p.m. This allows adults to come home from work, eat something, spend time with children, and then go practice Aikido for an hour or so. "This approach has been very successful for us. We seem to be fulfilling a real need in many Castle Rock households," Sensei Jeff continued. When most adults think of a martial arts school, they often think of children's classes, colorful belts, and pre-arranged fighting forms performed against imaginary opponents. Walk into many martial art schools and you'll hear loud shouts, screams, and grunts and if you look at the faces of many students you'll see a lot of brooding and grimacing. This Aikido program in Castle Rock is different. The predominant sound in class isn't shouting, but laughter. And, if you look around the room you see nothing but wide, bright smiles. Sensei Jeff Albright appeared to be quite serious when he said, "Aikido has a tendency to produce extreme happiness in people."While many martial arts have an age-related shelf life (like many professional sports do), Aikido is a life long practice. Aikido doesn't adversely discriminate with age. While much more dynamic than yoga, Aikido is similar to yoga in that you tend to get better, not worse, as you get older. "One of our teachers back in Japan is over 80 years old and still practices Aikido daily," says Sensei Miho. Furthermore, like yoga, Aikido contributes to health and longevity by helping to keep the body limber.Aikido strongly promotes and emphasizes body awareness. It is a way of physically reconnecting with yourself. By practicing Aikido, you learn to recognize just how much people have lost touch with their bodies, their senses, and for some people, their spirit. Aikido truly reawakens a spark of life long forgotten by many working adults. And, it does this without causing pain or injury.Student Gary S., 56, shared that "As I get older, I think about how I might maintain my balance, agility and coordination. As a health care professional I see many older people who have fallen and broken bones, in particular their hips. This happens, in part, because of a diminished sense of balance, a loss of agility. Aikido, through its repeated practice of centered movements, can help prevent such injuries by helping to maintain agility and a strong sense of balance."Paul P., 51, another health care professional at Parker Adventist Hospital, is attracted to Aikido because of it's non-competitive nature and relaxed atmosphere while still providing a good workout and good means of self-defense. "We accomplish an awful lot in a hour long class" says Paul. The low risk of injury played a significant role in his decision to practice Aikido, too. "Because of my profession, I need to be able to go to work the next day without injury. Aikido let's me do just that. Plus, I feel refreshed and revitalized after each class."Doug S., 55, has studied other martial arts in the past, however he prefers Aikido because of its more natural, flowing blend of form and function. "It's powerful, but graceful at the same time," says Doug. "And, it's really great for stress relief. When I'm grumpy after a long day at work, Aikido is a great way to focus on something non-work related for a while."Castle Rock Aikido is currently located inside Omega Gymnastics at 1609 Park Street in Castle Rock. You are welcome to come watch or try a class for free anytime. You can also an Aikido video clip of Sensei Jeff Albright demonstrating Aikido techniques by visiting their website http://www.craikido.com/. You can also reach them by calling 720-221-3665.

Samurai Descendant Teaches in Castle Rock, Colorado
    2007-08-07 20:15:00
Miho Shiraki Albright teaches the samurai sword and the Japanese martial art of Aikido in Castle Rock. However, she wasn't always in Colorado. Born and raised in Kitakyushu, a town in the Southern Japan Prefecture of Fukuoka, Miho is a descendant of a long line of samurai warriors of feudal Japan.Samurai were a class of Japanese military nobility who served a feudal lord and/or the Japanese Emperor. The word samurai derives from the Japanese verb "samorau," which means "to serve." Samurai came into power as a warrior class in the early 12th century and were subsequently disbanned, virtually becoming extinct, in the late 1880s with the fall of the feudal system of Japan and the rise of industry and westernization. This dramatic shift in culture was beautifully depicted in the 2003 film, The Last Samurai, starring Tom Cruise.Growing up, Miho had heard stories about her family's ancestors being pacifist, Shinto priests. What she didn't really know until recently was why did those ancestors become Shinto priests in the first place? Miho was somewhat surprised to discover that her ancestors hadn't always been priests, but, in fact, were from a long line of samurai warriors of feudal Japan. Miho's mother told her about samurai of the Shiraki family who had left the samurai class and became pacifists to atone for their violent past.Miho's family name of Shiraki has an interesting story itself. In Japan, carrying on a family name is of the utmost importance. Being a first-born son and head of a family unit is a very coveted position in Japanese culture. Being a first-born son is so coveted that second or later born sons will often marry women from families who have no sons and take the surname of the wife's family. Through marriage, the husband then becomes the prestigious, first-born son of the wife's family (albeit the first-born son- in-law). Miho's ancestors went through a similar experience.Sometime between 1100 and 1800 lived this samurai-turned-Shinto priest family named Shiraki. This particular family had no children, yet it was still very important to them to carry on the name of Shiraki. So they did something somewhat unorthodox, at the time. Since they had no children, they arranged for a marriage between a second family with only a daughter and a third family with a second-born son. In return for arranging this marriage, the families of the young couple agreed to take on and perpetuate the priests' family name of Shiraki. This was a mutually beneficial arrangement for the two families since the Shiraki priests were the keepers of a highly respected Shinto shrine in Southern Japan, Munakata Taisha shrine of Kyushu. The newly married couple (Miho's ancestors) inherited responsibility for this shrine.Much like her samurai/shinto priest ancestors, Miho, too, did something very unorthodox. In 1996, she married a "gaijin", or foreigner - an American, no less.Dr. Jeff Albright, DC (who practices Japanese Acupuncture in Castle Rock) and Miho Shiraki were married in Japan over ten years ago and, congruent with both American and Japanese culture, Miho took the surname of Jeff (a first-born son himself). In Japan, there are no hyphenated last names, nor any middle names. So Miho somewhat reluctantly gave up her Shiraki family name. However, while living in the United States, Miho has chosen to honor her ancestors by making Shiraki her middle name.Miho's family also has a very unique family crest. Japanese family crests are almost always circular and named after the male's family. However, Miho's family crest is a three-pronged white tree surrounded by a hexagon. The hexagon shape emphasizes the female elements in Japanese crest symbology. Use of the hexagon, instead of the traditional circle for the family crest appears to have been part of the agreement made between the three families at the time of the unorthodox marriage. This was meant to honor the Shiraki family name and the unique family arrangement made by these three families to carry on the name of Shiraki. The family crest has remained unchanged in Miho's family since this unique joining of families. Today, Miho & Jeff continue to use the Shiraki symbol as their personal family crest as well as the logo for the Aikido martial arts school they teach at in Castle Rock.Miho, and her husband Jeff, teach a samurai sword class on Sunday afternoons and Aikido throughout the week. In class, students use traditional, wooden Japanese practice-swords, called bokken. You can learn more about Miho and Jeff's martial art programs by visiting http://www.craikido.com/ or by calling Castle Rock Aikido, LLC at 720-221-3665.

Série mexicana “Chapolin Colorado” vai virar longa animado

Welcome to the July 16, 2007 edition of Colorado Politics. Colorado Draft Pick Recap, Saturday Blog Post Orgy Continues
    2007-06-23 21:50:00
With all seven rounds of the draft now over, nine new players have joined the Colorado Avalanche system. Most of them will play more time in their local beer leagues than in the National Hockey League. Statistically speaking, only a small number of the 200 or more young players chosen in the NHL Entry Draft every year actually make it to the NHL, and even fewer become stars. The majority play most of their careers in the minor leagues and then unceremoniously retire while still fairly young. Such is life in all professional sports, not just hockey. Since fame and notoriety will likely escape most of them, it's my duty to give these young players at minimum the glory of a Dear Lord Stanley blog post, so I'll run down the list of new Avalanche prospects one at a time. Hopefully their mothers, at least, will be proud.I already profiled first round pick Kevin Shattenkirk here. Colorado’s Cancer
    2007-06-17 18:38:46
I’ve been in Colorado only a few years now. I am still not always sure which city I am in at any given time. This may seem a bit strange. It may seem that I am a bit strange, not knowing what city I am in, but I haven’t always had this problem. Generally, I’ve always known, pretty much, where I was. Not so any longer. Now, a warning. I am going to linking to some very large (mostly PDF) files. Click at your own risk. Let’s take a look at a few city maps. I spent most of my life in Texas, so lets pick a few from there. Let’s take Houston (PDF) , San Antonio (PDF), the capital city of Austin, and the college town of San Marcos. I don’t pretend that these cities are representative. These are just the cities I know. Honestly, I’m not sure what the national trend is. What strikes me about these cities? Generally speaking, they are round, especially when extra-territorial jurisdictions are included. Maybe ’round’ is the wrong word. Maybe

Senate Watch: How Blue Is Colorado?
    2007-06-11 21:23:00
Following the January announcement that incumbent Republican Senator Wayne Allard would not seek re-election in 2008, the battle for his Colorado Senate seat is set to become perhaps the most competitive in the country. Allard is currently the only 2008 Senate incumbent to have announced retirement, providing Democrats with their best opportunity to pick up a seat. The race will likely test the strength of the recently resurgent Democratic Party in Colorado against the Republican history of the state. Both parties appear to have their nominees--Mark Udall for the Democrats and Bob Schaffer for the Republicans. Udall currently represents Colorado's liberal 2nd District, consisting of Boulder and some Denver suburbs, and was easily re-elected in 2006, with nearly 70% of the vote. He is part of a powerful political family that includes his father, former presidential candidate and Arizona Congressman Mo Udall, as well as cousins Tom Udall, a Democratic representative from New Mexico, and

The Colorado Avalanche will have a brand-spankin...
    2007-05-08 20:50:00
The Colorado Avalanche will have a brand-spankin' new AHL affiliate next season, and they don't even have to share this time! The Lake Erie Monsters, who play in Cleveland (sorry about their luck), are already gearing up for their first hockey campaign. The Avs named Joe Sacco as Monsters head coach and Sylvain Lefebvre* as assistant coach. Sacco was an assistant at the last two Colorado AHL affiliates---Lowell and Albany. With a strong lineup that will likely include young standouts like TJ Hensick, Ray Macias, Codey Burki and Michael Wall, the Monsters should have a strong first season. And hopefully, Sacco's proven development efforts provide even more talented young players for the Avs.And now, to think of a clever nickname for the team mascot. How about "Boggy" or "Steamer"?*The photo of Lefebvre shows him wearing the team captain's C for the Avalanche during a game in the 1997-98 season while filling in for an injured Joe Sakic. In case anyone noticed.

    Colorado 5, Edmonton 1
    2007-03-22 22:23:00
The Avs swept into Edmonton last night and crushed the Oilers with ease, improving their record over the last ten games to 9-0-1. Not that beating the Oilmen is really that big of a deal, as the former team of Ryan Smyth has apparently all but packed their bags and permanently left the proverbial building. They've lost twelve straight games. As for the Avalanche, they continue on their make-the-playoffs-or-die-trying tear, chasing down the on-again, off-again Flames of Calgary. It's cool to see Colorado doing so well, but one has to ask, where the hell were they the rest of the season? Why are they still four points out of the playoffs after going 9-0-1 in the last ten games?Hello? What is particularly telling is which Avalanche players haven't been playing during this impressive streak. Peter Budaj has finally become THE starting goalie, and with much success, at the expense of uber-disappointment Jose Theodore, who hasn't played since February 25th, the last non-overtime loss th
