The Politically Incorrect Case for Columbus Day
    2007-10-09 00:34:25
I understand children are now taught in school that Christopher Columbus is someone to be detested instead of revered. Teachers instruct their pupils to believe that Christopher Columbus was a tyrannical person who enslaved peaceful native people. In truth, Christopher Columbus deserves considerable praise, and is worthy of a Federal holiday.Without a doubt, one of the most influential moments in the history of the World was the European discovery of America. It led to the spreading of a civilized European Culture throughout the World. It also ultimately led to the founding of the United States. The United States since its founding has created more prosperity for the common man than any Nation in the history of the World. Consequently, without Christopher Columbus’ dangerous voyage and courage, America and its greatness would not be here today. That in of itself justifies a national Christopher Columbus Day.For those of you who may be wondering if I am insinuating that the native people who lived in the “New World” were primitive, yes, I am doing just that. While Columbus and the Europeans utilized metals, mathematics, writing, literature, engineering, and numerous other inventions, the native people had not yet invented the wheel, metal working, nor domesticated animals when Columbus discovered America. I am sorry; the native people who lived in the “New World” were objectively primitive. They were a Stone-Age people.Furthermore, this romanticism with primitivism and peasant life is getting to be obnoxious. It is because of technology and the movement toward civilization that people prosper today. Nevertheless, liberals are rewriting history by claiming that Native Americans were peaceful people with a superior culture to that of Europeans. This is total nonsense. The Native tribes that lived in the “New World” were warlike people. The Incas fattened six-year-olds before they sacrificed them. One of the tribes that Columbus encountered was called the Canibs. The Canibs created the root word for cannibal. This is because they ate the people they killed. But, of course we are not allowed to talk about these things because it may hurt the self-esteem of some people.Lastly, what most people fail to recognize is that every civilization in the history of the world was founded by advanced people conquering more primitive people. Europe’s conquering of the Native Americans is nothing new. But, to deny Columbus’ importance to our lives is to deny reality. He certainly deserves a holiday in his honor.Related EditorialsIndoctrinate U...

Columbus Day: A Holiday Celebrating a Fraud?
    2007-10-08 14:20:00
I feel like ranting today so strap yourself in and let’s roll.Today is “Columbus Day” and I really cannot tell you why. Columbus did nothing. Yes, you read that correctly. He failed in 100% of his stated goals and did not even do what we seem to credit him with today. Columbus set sail to discover a new trade route to the Indies. He failed in that regard as he never made it to the Indies. He is credited with discovering America, but he never set foot in America, he landed in Cuba. Also, there were already people there when Columbus landed. Remember, he was greeted by the indigenous people, so what exactly did he “discover?” How can you claim to find new land when there are already people living there?Marco Polo set out to find a new trade route to China and he succeeded. He brought pasta to Italy yet he is honored by having a pool game named after him where one person closes his eyes and searches blindly for his target. Columbus, who failed in his endeavors, gets a holiday na...

    COLUMBUS DAY !!!!
    2007-10-07 10:07:00
Here in Oregon, we have "bad" memories of the Columbus Day storm ....So, every Columbus Day, you make sure the snow blower is working, the tire chains are ready-to-go, and that there is plenty of food, and beer, in the cabin; firewood, candles, blankets, snow shoes, and animal shelter and food.Usually October is the best month of the year for weather, 60 degree days-clear blue skies and random puffy white clouds, cool evenings ('til dark) then 25 degrees ! The whole month goes on like this.... UNTIL November first, when the switches get thrown, and the rain starts and grey skies begin, lasting until May.This year we had snow September 26th ! ... and it has been November for two weeks now, with snow, wind, rain, grey, and cold. My bus work was a month (or three weeks) behind @ mid- September, not to worry though...we always have my beautiful October to catch up in ... yea, right !So, I have been working "other" things instead of "bus" things, in hopes of actually being ready for...
