| Cher, Cosmetic Surgery And A Comeback: | | 2008-05-09 00:00:00 | | Original showgirl Cher is back! The 61 year-old singer has taken possession of the stage once again and is going to perform for a 3 year period at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Cher and Las Vegas, now that’s one combination that’s got scintillating flamboyance written all over it! Cher is famous for her totally groovy costumes and almost as famous for getting a lot of cosmetic surgery work done during her career. In a recent interview with Oprah, she exclaimed that getting older in showbiz ‘sucks’. Small wonder than that the woman felt the need to take some help from the plastic surgeon’s scalpel to keep the cheques coming in. And a good decision it has been too. I just checked out her official website and she looks stunning in it; even the opening night concert pictures I looked up were fabulous enough to make me green with envy! Plastic surgery and age have mellowed up dear old Cher quite captivatingly. Just last year Cher ‘fessed up to getting some h | | By: Plastic Surgery Institute Of California | | |
| | Bad Start, Nice Comeback, Awful Ending | | 2008-05-08 09:37:00 | | The Red Sox fell behind the Tigers 4-0 early last night, as Clay Buchholz didn't have it. He gave up five runs total, but the Red Sox marched back with two home runs from Kevin Youkilis, a three-run bomb by Mike Lowell to tie it up at 8 (second time this week Mike fell just a triple short of the cycle), and Dustin Pedroia completed the comeback (or so we thought) with a pinch-single in the eighth to make it 9-8.And Julio Lugo blows it all in the ninth. He made his MLB-leading 10th error in the ninth with no outs, and it opened the door for Detroit to score two runs off Jonathan Papelbon and win, 9-8. And it was slightly ironic that the guy who hit the ball Lugo booted was Edgar (30 errors in 2005) Renteria. It's been a horrific year for Lugo at SS, and he's on a pace to eclipse the one-year disaster that was Rent-a-Wreck in Boston in 2005. Lugo tried to get the runner going to second in the ninth, but the ball popped out of his glove and completely changed the inning. The fact Lugo was o | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |
| | COMEBACK WASTED...Tigers 10 Red Sox 9 | | 2008-05-08 04:17:00 | | You can't win 'em all, but last night's 10-9 loss to the Detroit Tigers really hurt. The Tigers had lost five games in a row and Boston had WON five straight. But when the Red Sox finally went ahead by a score of 9-8 going into the bottom of the ninth, an improbable Boston comeback veered into the realm of a probable victory. But it was not to be, for the Tigers, on the strength (??) of a checked-swing roller, a costly error by Julio Lugo, a sacrifice bunt that traveled no more than three yards and a shattered bat bloop single, scored two vital runs to get the victory. I could go into who hit what when, but you can click on the title of this post for all those details. The Boston comeback was thrwarted by the two unearned ninth inning runs. Oh well, turn the page. It's all we can do, so let's do it! I already have, late last night. Sleep was a tossed and turning trip of dreamlike states. It was a bad night for Clay Buchholz, who went four innings and gave up five runs on ten hits. Julia | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | | Pirates Can't Complete Comeback | | 2008-04-25 22:06:00 | | The Pirates came back from a 6-0 hole Zach Duke dug, but couldn't quite finish the job. They scored 5 quickly in the middle innings, but the strong end of the Phillies bullpen kept the Bucs off the board for the rest of the game. The Pirate bullpen did the same, but the Bucs fell, 6-5. Exciting game after a terrible start, but that just made the finish all the more dissapointing.Legit recap and pictures from the game later. | | By: Raise the Jolly Roger! | | |
| | | California merlot ripe for a comeback | | 2008-04-23 10:21:00 | | There is no doubting that 2005 is a great vintage for Bordeaux's merlot-dominated wines - when all manner of wineries succeed from the fanciest such as Chateau Petrus, which sell upwards of $1,000 a bottle, to Chateau Franc Mayne, which sells in the $35 to $50 category. And wine drinkers are going to be flocking to those wines. But, here is the rub. The 2005 vintage in Pomerol and St. Emilion, those parts of the prestigious Bordeaux region that lie across the river from the famous city, has produced very ripe wines whose California-like roundness and richness is atypical. Moreover, the popular cry that California wines are too ripe and sweet now applies to 2005 in Pomerol and St. Emilion.

| | MANNY Powers Red Sox Comeback Victory | | 2008-04-15 04:35:00 | | Manny Ramirez has been putting up All Star numbers for the Boston Red Sox so far this season, and his two run monster bomb shot completed a Red Sox comeback and powered the New England team to a 6-4 victory over the at home Cleveland Indians. It was 4-1 Cleveland after 5 innings as Sox starter Jon Lester was not sharp, not sharp at all, at least after the first three spotless innings. He ended up going only 4 1/3 frames, throwing a whopping 97 pitches in that short span. Why so many? Walks, number one. He allowed 4 free passes while giving up 4 earned runs and 5 hits. Do the math and you get a typically mediocre Lester performance. NOT ACCEPTABLE! But the bullpen shined. Yes, OUR BULLPEN. Julian Tavarez, who has been mostly great this year, was the prime savior, holding the fort for 2 2/3 innings. Winner Mike Timlin has seemed to find the cure to what ailed him. He went 1 clean inning, the 8th, and Paps scalped the Indians in the 9th, striking out 2. Youkilis chimed in with 3 hits, but | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| | “Comeback” meals. | | 2008-04-08 14:27:00 | | April 9 ... Some cooks cook with the express intent of having leftovers. I am one of those cooks. I understand (no, I don’t, actually) that some cooks abhor leftovers, and some eaters refuse them. I have puzzled over the issue in several previous stories (two of them are here and here), and had no intention of bringing up the subject again (at least for a while) until I came across the term ‘comeback’, in relation to a meal. I naively thought this meant a meal so good that everyone came back for more, so there were no leftovers to agonise over. I was wrong, it seems. A ‘comeback’ is restaurant-speak for a particular type of leftover. At least that is what Mr. Charles Fellows indicates in his book Fellows’ Menu Maker (Chicago, 1910). I don’t know if this remains current restaurant parlance, and would be grateful for some enlightenment from professionals in the business. | | Rain barrels make a comeback | | 2008-03-27 19:29:43 | | Springfield, Massachusetts is blessed with some of the purest and best-tasting water in the country, thanks to the state's largest uncontrolled river, the West Branch Westfield. This river fills the 1,135 acre Cobble Mountain Reservoir in Russell and Blandford; the reservoir then goes on to provide 37 million gallons of water a day to Springfield, Agawam, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow and Ludlow.Rich in lakes and rivers, no place in New England is more than 400 miles from the ocean, With water so ubiquitous, New Englanders rarely give much thought to its availability..Yet the region experienced a moderately severe drought in 2002 and has had periods of abnormally dry or moderate drought conditions every year since then. Last August was the second driest in 122 years, according to Drought Monitor. One old water conservation idea that seems to be becoming new again is the rain barrel. The Mass. | | Anatomy of a Clinton Comeback: Part 2 | | 2008-03-02 10:56:00 | | (Note: This is the second half of an extended piece about Hillary Clinton. To read the first half, click here.)-----3. Stop complaining and fight. At the most recent debate in Cleveland, Clinton started the debate off by whining about "being asked the first question" and sarcastically chided the moderators for not asking if "Barack [Obama] wants another pillow." This was a stunningly stupid thing for her to say because it only reinforced her negatives, reminded voters that she was losing, sounded petty instead of presidential, and wasted time that could have been better spent articulating her views on something that actually mattered to voters. One of the most basic rules of politics is that when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. (Regarding her actual complaint, Dan Abrams of MSNBC argued that she had a point, but her poor delivery crowded out her actual message.)Clinton needs to accept the fact that underdogs don't get treated as well as frontrunners do. | | Anatomy of a Clinton Comeback: Part 1 | | 2008-03-02 10:53:00 | | (Note: This is the first half of an extended piece about Hillary Clinton. To read the second half, click here.)-----The caucuses and primaries on March 4 in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont have been dubbed Junior Super Tuesday. This is welcome news for politicos who will have been starved of fresh primary election results for about two weeks. Because of the saturation of pundits on television as of late, many political observers have noticed that there simply isn't much new to say right now. After the Wisconsin and Washington primaries, everybody knew that Barack Obama had the momentum, that John McCain was the assumed Republican nominee, and that Hillary Clinton was in serious trouble. And given that Obama is whittling down Clinton's lead in Ohio and may have overtaken her in Texas, these stories about mayday in the Clinton campaign seem prudent. However, in light of all the twists and turns of the fight for the Democratic nomination so far, nothing is a done deal and the | | By: The 7-10 | | |

| | French wines make a comeback | | 2008-01-29 02:32:00 | | French wines are quietly making a comeback thanks to a New World market that is exhibiting the kind of smugness that first had the French on the run. Drought, consolidation, the dumb-it-down factor and sweet-tasting, high-alcohol wines are tiring out New World drinkers, in effect driving them right back into the hands of the French. In the right place at the right time are Rhone Valley producers where, according to the folks at Sopexa Canada, some 16 per cent of winemakers are under 35 years old, or three per cent more than the national average.

| | A Comeback For The Ages | | 2007-09-12 12:44:00 | | For the first time since September 21, 2001, the Boston Red Sox overcame a seven run deficit and beat the visiting Tampa Bay Devil Rays 14-10. The score was 4-0 Rays after two innings and 8-1 after 3 1/2. But the bats started to speak for the Red Sox, in fact they started to yell! And by the time the 7th inning was history, the score was 16-9 good guys. Gagne eventually gave up a meaningless run in the ninth to make the final score read 16-10. Batting heroes for the Sox? You have an extra hour? Just kidding....every hitter in the starting lineup had at least two hits, with the exception of Cash, who had 3 RBIs. The biggest blow might have been a bases loaded triple by Kevin Youkilis, which cleared the bases, in the 6th inning. By that time the Sox were well on their way on the comeback trail. Or was it the Yellow Brick Road? If it was, they FOUND the Wizard!Timmy Wakefield is another story. "I'm not making excuses, I just didn't make the right pitches when I needed to."Peter here, and I was happy to read that. The Boston Red Sox, down 6-5 after 4, tied the game in the 5th on the strength of a Big Papi solo shot. It was 6-6 after 5 with young Clay Buchholz coming in to make the first relief appearance of his young career. The first three batters reached base. WITH NONE OUT. But he settled down and induced a double play grounder by Miggy Tejada and then proceeded to strike out Kevin Millar, making him look a little foolish. | | The Comeback Kids | | 2007-08-19 18:12:00 | | Curt Schilling didn't have it last night, giving up 5 runs in six innings, but the Red Sox staged a dramatic comeback from 5-0 down, scoring 6 runs in the fifth and four more in the eighth to beat the LA Angels last night, 10-5. It was Schilling's first win since his near no-hitter back in June.David Ortiz capped the comeback with a grand slam that put the Red Sox ahead to stay (pictured). | | The Red Sox Slam The Angels In A Comeback Victory | | 2007-08-19 11:46:00 | | Saturday night was a night that the home Boston Red Sox had to put up some crooked numbers on their half of the scoreboard or lose their second in a row to the LA Angels. And after Friday night's second game loss, that would have been tough on the team, and for us here in magical RSN. But Curt Schilling still needs to fine tune the edges and regain some lost velocity. He said this...."As much as I hate to say it, I am a work in progress in a lot of ways," said Schilling, who came off the disabled list Aug. 6. "I don't have the consistent low to mid-90s velocity."I have to agree with him, but when it counted Saturday night at Fenway Park, as he and his team faced the LA Angels, Curt got the outs. In the sixth inning, after the Sox had gone ahead 6-5 on the strength of a Big Papi monster shot grand slam to right, he retired the Angels. Timlin, Okajima and Papelbon, in a non-save situation, also put up scoreless frames to end it. The Halos were held to one run after the second inning. T | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Six Runs Down Too Much For A Sox Comeback | | 2007-08-15 22:39:00 | | That's the bad news.....6-5 Devil Rays final. But the Yankees are down by three in the 10th. Full details tomorrow morning. But to me, there is NO EXCUSE for losing to that team from Tampa Bay. NONE AT ALL. I guess the Red Sox are intent to plod along at a .500 pace. HOW BORING.....and eventually deadly. MARK MY WORDS. | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Sox Comeback Falls Just Short | | 2007-08-15 21:13:00 | | Andy Sonnanstine? Are you kidding me?On paper, Wednesday afternoon's Red Sox-Devil Rays game looked like a total mismatch. Daisuke Matsuzaka was going for the Red Sox, seeking his 14th win. Going for a Tampa Bay was a rookie with a 1-8 record, and an ERA over 6.30. Daisuke has the best ERA of any American League pitcher since June 1. Sonnanstine, in his last two outings against Baltimore and Texas, had an ERA over 13.00. He had not won since beating Florida in his second MLB outing back on June 10.The Sox had beaten Tampa Bay the last two nights, and all five times at Fenway this year. They allowed them just one run in two games. They had an emotional, come-from-behind win the night before. I saw this matchup and thought the Red Sox bats would get healthy in a hurry today. But today they came out flat. It was simply a putrid effort for the first six innings against what has been an awful Devil Rays pitcher. Daisuke simply didn't have it. He had trouble with his fastball, and gave up a | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |
| | NP and LP - comeback kids? | | 2007-08-06 12:44:36 | | After spending time outside the country’s political limelight in recent years, the two leading traditional parties of the pre-martial law era may be heading for a big comeback. | | Comeback Victory For The Red Sox Over The Birdies | | 2007-08-02 12:04:00 | | It was quiet, too quiet, until the seventh inning at Fenway Park Wednesday night. The score heading into that inning was 3-1 O's, Julien Tavarez had already headed to the showers after pitching five good innings in a spot start, and Kyle Snyder did a bang up job, as did eventual winner Javy Lopez, in keeping the game that close. The Sox scored four times in that bottom of the seventh, with the big hits a wall double by Papi and a double to right center by the clutch Kevin Youkilis. And it was smooth sailing from there, as Okajima pitched the eighth, giving up a run, and an electric Jonathon Papelbon, whose fastball topped out at 97 MPH, finished things off with a 12 pitch ninth. All in all, a very satisfying win. A team win when the Sox needed a starter because of the departure of good guy Kason Gabbard. And with the Yankees pounding out another victory over the hapless White Sox, the lead holds at 7 games. And remember, the Yank's schedule gets so much tougher really soon, including | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Don't Call it a Comeback | | 2007-07-27 00:02:00 | | Mikhail Gorbachev has come a long way since he wrote in a high school essay, "Stalin is our glorious fighter, Stalin is the iron of our youth (“Stalin – nasha slava boevaia, Stalin – nashei iunosti polet)" But his love for Stalin faded with Khrushchev's 'Secret Speech." Also gone are the days when he tried to reform the Soviet system with glasnost and perestroika. Gorby as reformer is a nice legacy. But Gorby the fashion model?Yes. The New York Times tells us that along with several other celebrities, Gorbachev will be featured in Louis Vuitton ads.[W]hat is a reader to make of a Vuitton ad, coming in the big September books, that stars Mikhail S. Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union? A decade ago, Mr. Gorbachev’s appearance in a Pizza Hut commercial was generally greeted as a low point in his career. The Vuitton ad, however, is part of a campaign to emphasize the company’s heritage in luggage and travel accessories. | | 80s Style Making A Comeback | | 2007-07-14 04:19:22 | | I still remember being alive in the 80s, looking back on photos, there is one thing that really stands out...the apparel. It is hard to miss pictures of parents and relatives alike donning oversize sweaters, leggings, and cropped pants and as an in style child, I seemed to comply with all of the trends. And, the magazines are already forecasting the popularity of the 80s comeback. Finally, 80s fashion is back again... Leggings, off-the shoulder jumpers, skinny jeans, high-waisted skirts, high-waisted pants, high-waisted dress, drop-waisted blouse, belted jumper dresses, miniskirts, off-the-shoulder tops, cropped pants, dungarees and lots more - the 1980's fashion trends are now considered as latest teenager trend and are what every woman loves to wear. Wide belts too are a good idea. And, here are some of my favourite collection of 80s style. | | By: Makeup And Beauty Tips | | |

| | PS3 "Already Making Comeback" | | 2007-06-21 17:10:00 | | news from (http://www.next-gen.biz)"All the production problems have been solved. We are making a comeback already,” Stringer said in an associated press report. He reiterated that the PS3 is going to play a major role in Sony’s overall financial s, calling the console “a key driver” for growth.Sony's meeting was reportedly upbeat, with talk of recovery in games and big strides in flat-panel TV and digital camera sales. But shareholders remain cautious. Shareholder Kazuhiko Machida, for instance, is particularly aware of Sony’s PS3 missteps."It's hard to think that Sony has solved all its problems," he said. "The Sony brand has taken a beating. I think Sony may be at a crossroads, but it's too early to say 'Banzai!'”But Stringer still has an immense amount of faith in Sony’s games business. Earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai said that 380 games would be hitting PS3 this year."We believe that the PS3 going forward will be vital to our future, and succeed,” Stringer said.news from (http://www.next-gen.biz)http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/ | | By: Gamer 4 Life | | |
| | Cro Cop's Comeback at UFC 75? | | 2007-06-12 06:08:00 | | After nearly going into cardiac arrest upon hearing the announcement of the 205 pound double-crown championship fight between Rampage and Dan Henderson, rumors have risen about “Cro Cop’s” possible opponent on the same fight card. “Cro Cop,” a former Croatian law enforcement officer, has been a wrecking machine in his professional career as a fighter, holding a hard-earned record of (16-7) in K1 and winning the PRIDE 2006 Open-weight Grand Prix with a MMA record of (22-5-2). After a less than stellar win over Eddie Sanchez and a devastating knockout loss against Gabriel Gonzaga, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic is in dire need of a strong comeback in the UFC. “Cro Cop” lacks the heart and passion he had when he fought for Pride FC. With any luck, Cro Cop’s fire will be rekindled at UFC 75 as he squares off against Cheick Kongo (10-3-1) in London, England, on September 8. | | 'Pen Flawless In Red Sox Comeback Win | | 2007-06-10 12:42:00 | | They did it again. The Boston Red Sox roared back from a 3-0 deficit and beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 in 10 innings. It was their 19th come-from-behind victory, and that's the sign of a good ball club. Julian Tavarez, in what might have been his last start of the season (see Jon Lester related story below), was great for 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 base hits. He struck out 5 and gave way to the Sox bullpen. And the 'pen responded with perfection from Donnelly, the Darkman, Hideki Okajima and Jonathon Papelbon. The Darkman was perfect for two innings and was credited with the win while a rusty Paps earned the save, although he threw a ton of pitches. The batting star was the captain, Jason Varitek. He batted in three with a home run and a double. The winning run was driven in by Mike Lowell with a pinch hitting at-bat sac fly. The Sox have now won 3 straight as they keep their lead over the Yankees at 10 1/2 games. The Yankees have been playing good ball of late with 5 strai | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
