| | | Holden to introduce Z06-powered Commodore sedan | | 2008-02-28 15:06:20 | | Holden to introduce Z06-powered Commodore sedan
Holden, GM's Australian auto brand, is set to unveil a high-performance variant of its Commodore sedan (regular model pictured) powered by the same 7.0-liter V8 engine as the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The Commodore is sold in the United States as the Pontiac G8. So far, there has been no indication if Pontiac plans to import this new high-powered variant. Holden's in-house tuner HSV will build the cars by hand alongside the Holden Racing Team headquarters. The car's three-year, 62,000-mile warranty will remain in effect, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Despite rising gas prices, sales of high-performance cars remain strong in Australia. The automaker believes "there is definitely a market for this car," HSV boss Scott Grant told the Herald. The 500 horsepower car will see only limited production, and will likely cost twice as much as the current top-of-the-line model. | | 2008 Chevrolet Omega: Brazil?€?s Turn For The Holden Commodore | | 2007-07-05 04:36:43 | | General Motors announced today the introduction of the Holden Commodore based, Chevrolet Omega in the Brazilian market. Evidently, the word ?€?based?€ is an understatement because the only visible difference between the Chevy and its down-under stable mate is restricted to the bowtie in the grille. While American consumers will have to wait until early 2008 to get a taste of the RWD Australian sedan via the Pontiac G8, the Chevrolet Omega will go on sale in Brazil this August where it will be available with GM?€?s 250Hp 3.6-liter V6 unit. For those unfamiliar with the Brazilian market, the current Chevrolet Omega is a rebadged version of the previous Holden Commodore. GM decided to import the Omega from Australia in 1999 after the original Chevrolet Omega based on the Opel Omega A and built locally between 1992 and 1998, ceased production. -More pictures after the jump

| VE Commodore 4 Star ANCAP Rating | | 2007-06-23 12:22:00 | | At the launch of the VE Commodore in July last year, Holden management were quick to point out that more than a billion Aussie dollars were sunk into developing GM's new global RWD architecture, and that thousands of miles of testing were conducted for the latest version of Australia's most popular car.Holden is now on the back foot following the four-star crash test rating its VE scored in last week's Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), the local equivalent of the Euro NCAP and America's NHTSA crash test ratings. The latest result means the all-new Commodore is no safer than the previous VY model released back in May 2003. Worse still, in some cases, such as the offset impact test, the new VE was rated less safe than the previous car.Holden's official response is that the ANCAP doesn't represent real-world conditions, and that 80 cars were crash-tested during the VE's development in addition to more than 5,000 computer-simulated barrier tests.
