Country Cookin': Cheap Eats in Virginia
    2007-06-15 23:05:00
While on vacation last week, we had the pleasure of eating two meals in Country Cookin', a down home restaurant with several locations in Virginia. They offer a large salad, side dish, and dessert bar (the "Country Favorites Bar") in addition to menu items. Whenever we go, we always get the salad bar. It's all-you-can-eat and they have the best rolls! My family has been eating at Country Cookin' since I was a baby. Every time we go back, I'm delighted to see that little has changed since I was a kid. They're still offering the same good foods at very reasonable prices. You can find Country Cookin' in Culpeper, Warrenton, and Fredericksburg, in addition to other locations in Virginia. Although they're all good, our favorite is the one in Culpeper, my hometown. They have the largest dining area and are now smoke-free! They also have the best selection of desserts. Enjoy!

    Mama Knows Her Cookin’
    2007-01-23 16:36:55
This past weekend we spent a lovely time in NYC with some good friends (more about all the particulars later).  One of our stops earns the distinction of “Something I just have to recommend.”  Mama’s.  It’s at 200 East 3rd Street between Ave. A and Ave. B, in the Lower East Side.  This is good, old school cooking, with overgenerous portions and a wide variety of meat and vegetarian dishes.  The macaroni and cheese was an especially big hit with our group.  Go to Mama’s.  I guarantee you will be overcome by the essential yumminess of the food and will not leave hungry*. *You might leave hungry if you were, for example, The Incredible Hulk, but if you were The Incredible Hunk you probably would have enough money from your recent movie appearance to get TWO dinners, so even you, The Incredible Hulk, would leave Mama’s patting your green belly in satisfaction.
