| | Coping with the heat | | 2008-07-06 23:02:00 | | I would first like to thank Nancy and Jennifer for making me feel like a poor blogger since I have not posted in quite a while. It did work, and got me off my world wide web rear! (say that fast 5 times in a row) While I do have my excuses for the last few weeks, quite frankly, I am (obviously) not exactly one of the more reliable bloggers and can be a bit lazy. It is getting warmer and a common subject, both around town and Latin American bloggers is how to deal with the heat. There are all kinds of ways to do it; lots of fans, wear only cotton clothing, use umbrellas, etc. I thought I would enlighten everyone on the "Sans Method". To put it simply, I have embraced the siesta idea with total abandon and I nap. Usually, I tend to wake up about sunrise or a little afterwards. During the winter, I'll lay around most of the morning drinking tea, watching the news, and surfing the net and then do my "out of house chores" in the afternoon. Summer is different. I get up, and run what ever e | | By: Que Pasa? | | |
| | Understanding & Coping With Loneliness | | 2008-05-11 23:39:32 | | Some people believe that loneliness is a sign of our times, while others believe it has always existed as part of the human condition. After all, we come into this life and leave it alone. But intense loneliness and a sense of isolation can lead to depression, illness, sleep issues and general unhappi-ness. There is much that each of us can do for ourselves to over-come the feelings of un-necessary loneli-ness. The questions that lonely people ask themselves are: Why am I alone? Why have I not found my soul mate? Others work twelve-hour days, sleep a lot, spend money they do not have and use shopping, alcohol or drugs to combat these feelings; some people are lonely because they are new to a strange city and have not yet met friends. Then there are many who are waiting for a special love - their soul mate - to cure them of their unwanted solitude. What is most important when it comes to dealing with whichever brand of loneliness we suffer from, is that we understand the distinction betw | | By: Spiritual Village | | |

| Coping with acne | | 2008-05-05 05:50:00 | | Only in very rare cases can acne represent a serious general health risk. But, its effects can still be severe. The unsightly blemishes, the appearance of having unhealthy skin will almost inevitably lead to mild depression or worse. One important method for keeping that outlook under control is to make reasonable efforts to combat the condition. Not everyone can readily afford a professional dermatologist on an ongoing basis. But even one visit can provide tons of useful advice and a prescription for acne medication. That's worth quite a lot. Even though there is a substantial amount of information available on the Internet today, it's helpful to have someone experienced who can help interpret it. The medicine itself is important, both to treat the disease and the psychological effects. As the patient lessens the number of lesions, and lengthens the period between outbreaks, the skin will clear. At the same time, even when acne is still present, knowing that one is doing everything po | | By: Health Care Guide | | |

| | Coping With Social Anxiety | | 2007-09-04 10:54:57 | | The photo in this entry is Flowering Rainbow. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez.
I recently went somewhere with my parents where there were a lot of people. A little restaurant with few cooks and loud music. There was a long line when we arrived, which only got longer very soon after our arrival. A perfect recipe for a near panic attack as a result of having social anxiety.
I have had social anxiety for a few years now. The recent visit to the restaurant was a reminder of how bad it can get sometimes. I felt claustrophobic from being surrounded by people and yet so tiny. The loud music set off my sensitive nerves, I was stuttering as I tried talking to my mom. During which I realized I can't live like this. So I told myself to calm down, relax, and that it would all soon be over. We were there longer than expected, but I managed to calm down my nerves.

| | 10 Rules for Coping with Panic Attacks | | 2007-05-20 07:00:43 | | Three or four years ago, I was taking a shower before work in my apartment when I was suddenly overcome with an intense panic. My heart started to race, my breathing became shallow, and I jumped out of the shower not knowing what hit me. Part of me knew I was in no mortal danger, however that didn’t seem to be the part controlling my body at the time. I turned on my computer, and did a quick Internet search for “panic attacks.”
As I started to read through a few web pages, I came across a very similar version of the following instructions for coping with panic attacks, which I began to repeat to myself over and over…
1. Remember panic feelings are only normal reactions that are exaggerated.
2. They are not harmful and nothing worse will happen.
3. Notice what is happening in your body now. Stay with the present. Slow down, relax but keep going.
4. Thinking about what might happen is unhelpful. Only now matters.
5. Accept the feelings. Let them run through yo | | By: GoBackpacking
| | Coping the Desert Environment | | 2007-05-18 07:00:00 | | Desert DispatchIn the stark desert environment, a dry year is nothing new. As this weather season draws closer to becoming the driest on record for Southern California since 1877, seeds of native desert plants simply bide their time until the next big rain.
Sensitive species of animals in the desert and nearby mountains could bear the brunt of the dry weather, however, with less food and water available. Even some species that have adapted to cycles of drought could be harder hit because they are already under stress from human impacts. Reproduction levels in particular could be affected... | | By: The Flower Expert - Flowers Encyclopedia
| | Tips on Coping with Loss of pets | | 2007-04-13 11:36:00 | | by Moira Anderson Allen, M.Ed Anyone who considers a pet a beloved friend, companion, or family member knows the intense pain that accompanies the loss of that friend. Following are some tips on coping with that grief, and with the difficult decisions one faces upon the loss of a pet.1. Am I crazy to hurt so much?Intense grief over the loss of a pet is normal and natural. Don't let anyone tell you that it's silly, crazy, or overly sentimental to grieve!During the years you spent with your pet (even if they were few), it became a significant and constant part of your life. It was a source of comfort and companionship, of unconditional love and acceptance, of fun and joy. So don't be surprised if you feel devastated by the loss of such a relationship.People who don't understand the pet/owner bond may not understand your pain. All that matters, however, is how you feel. Don't let others dictate your feelings: They are valid, and may be extremely painful. But remember, you are not alo | | By: Pet Greeting Cards & Ecards | | |
