| To Draft or Not to Draft: Daunte Culpepper | | 2007-08-07 02:48:59 | | Everyone loves an underdog. It's a statement that, despite our cynicism, we here at TJI Fantasy Sports cannot disagree with. So we turn our attention to perhaps the biggest underdog of the upcoming NFL season, Raiders QB Daunte Culpepper. We were really pulling for Daunte in Miami. He seemed to be the perfect fit for a team seeking an heir to one of the greatest of all time, Dan Marino. Alas, it wasn't meant to be, as Culpepper's injured knee kept him on IR for all but the first four games. Now, with almost two years between Culpepper and his last quality game, he's taking a shot at winning the job in Oakland. They wouldn't bring him in if he didn't have a shot, right? Josh McCown is certainly capable of keeping the QB's seat warm for 8 games before JaMarcus Russell is ready. Something is afoot in Raider Nation and TJI thinks that it's time to pull for Daunte once again. How great would it be to see #8 throwing TD bombs like it was 2004 again? While we agree that it would be the s... | | By: This Just In | | |
| | Raiders Expected to Sign Culpepper | | 2007-08-01 01:47:48 | | A reported newspaper said the Oakland Raiders will sign free agent and former Viking and Dolphin QB Daunte Culpepper to a one-year deal, according to a source known with the situation. This would be a good move for the Raiders because as I stated in Saturday’s July 28 article, “Raiders QB Russell to start Week 1?” this team does not have a “worthy” starting QB to go in there for Russell no matter how long he holds out. Now they do, as they are expected to pick up the former Central Florida QB Culpepper. Culpepper should be the favorite to be under center against Detroit at home for Week 1. Oakland has been pleased with his workouts and so far he is a “go” in terms of his questioned, and often speculated health.
Culpepper has a strong arm and still has some mobility left in him. He is a major upgrade over McCown and Walter. He should be able to keep the seat warm for Russell when he is ready to start.
Culpepper will be a mentor for Russell, as they share a similar style ... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab
| | Tampa Bay Meets with Former Dolphins QB Culpepper | | 2007-07-20 15:37:51 | | Evidently still not happy with the teams quarterback position, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are jumping into the ring as a possible suitor for former Vikings and Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper. On Thursday head coach Jon Gruden, GM Bruce Allen, and personnel executive Doug Williams met with Culpepper, who is free to sign with anyone after being released from the Dolphins on Tuesday.
The Bucs have five QB’s already on their roster, even though one of them, Jake Plummer, has stated he is retired even though he has yet to file the paperwork with the league. Jeff Garcia, who signed with the team in the offseason from Philly, is the starter, and behind him you have Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms and Luke McCown. Gruden had said in the past that the door was still open for Plummer to come back if he wanted, as it almost seems in a perfect world for Gruden he would want Plummer and Garcia as his #1 and #2 QB’s.
So now the attention turns to Culpepper, who has been waiting for hi... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab

| Daunte Culpepper/Ricky Williams Updates | | 2007-06-29 22:33:31 | | Just some afternoon updates for you guys. First of all, Daunte Culpepper's arbitratio hearing has been postponed until Tuesday. It was originally scheduled for today. It was delayed because of the person hearing the case had flight issues. This hearing is due to the fact that Culpepper is fighting to be released, saying the Dolphins violated his contract by not allowing him to practice in mini-camp. However, he was able to practice in individual drills. He just received no snaps in the team drills. That, my friends, is not grounds for any violations. It's the same as the 4th string QB not getting any reps. It happens. As for Ricky, John Clayton is reporting that Williams will apply for reinstatement come September. However, even if he is reinstated, it isn't likely he remains with the Dolphins. In fact, it's unsure if any team would want him. In my opinion, I think it's 50/50 right now as to whether or not Roger Goo... | | By: The Phinsider | | |
| | Culpepper Hearing Against Dolphins Set for Today | | 2007-06-29 14:31:02 | | Today is the day that Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper has been waiting for. Today he goes in front of arbitrator John Feerick and states his case on why he feels the Miami Dolphins should release him. Culpepper, who is his own agent, will be represented as well by NFL Players Association general counsel Richard Berthelsen. As of right now it is not known who will represent the Dolphins in the case. Culpepper would like the Dolphins to release him, so he is free to find work with another team. The Dolphins have been trying to trade Culpepper, but have found no takers.
Culpepper was told by Miami after the trade to get Trent Green that he no longer fits in their plans. The QB had declared before being told about the Fins plans that he was excited and was looking forward to going at it in camp with Green to find out who the QB of the Dolphins would be. Culpepper attended a mini-camp after his knee was declared good to go by a doctor, but walked off the field when he was not getting ... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab
| | Culpepper Injures Hand in Two-Vehicle Crash | | 2007-06-14 20:46:14 | | The South Florida Sun-Sentinel is reporting that Miami Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper injured his hand last night in a two-vehicle crash, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman said on Thursday. The collision occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on the Sawgrass Expressway at Mile Marker 18, said FHP Lt. Mike Brown. Culpepper was westbound in a Chevrolet Caprice when he collided with an unidentified driver in a Chevy Avalanche. Both vehicles rolled off the roadway.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, Culpepper complained of a hand injury, Brown said. Paramedics took one of the injured to Coral Springs Medical Center, but Brown could not immediately say whether the patient was the quarterback or the other driver. Brown also could not say which hand Culpepper injured. Details of the crash were to become available later today, he said. The crash comes the day after the NFL Players’ Association filed a grievance against the Dolphins on behalf of Culpepper... | | By: NFL GridIron Gab

| Culpepper Creating a Circus Atmosphere | | 2007-06-09 21:20:26 | | Daunte Culpepper has passed out a press release to the media today that informed everyone how he felt and what he was doing about it. In the press release, Culepper talks about how his dream to play for the Miami Dolphins has turned into a nightmare and that he simply wants to be released. It also says that he has asked the legal department of the Players' Union to get involved. Therefore, this mess is going to get even uglier. Apparently, Cam Cameron said today that the team was prepared to drag this circus out into training camp if they needed to. They clearly don't want to simply release Culpepper and would rather get something for him. However, Culpepper, upon hearing Cameron's comments, said, "That's cool," and passed out his press release. Here is the full press release. Below is the final paragraph: I am now waiting for the Dolphins management to do what is right and fair by granting my release so that I can find a team that will ap... | | By: The Phinsider | | |
| | Stalemate Continues Between Culpepper and Dolphins | | 2007-06-09 19:46:10 | | Things are getting worse for the Dolphins in terms of the Daunte Culpepper saga. Saturday’s Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins spent Thursday calling around for interest in Culpepper, and basically found none. The early reports had the Rams, Jags and maybe even the Packers having interest in Culpepper, who was medically cleared to practice, but didn’t as the Dolphins told him not to and he left the field.
Clupepper, who acts as his own agent, has been vocal in stating he wants to be released from the Dolphins, and will not accpet a trade to any other team. The paper was quoted as saying: ”I will not agree to any trade,” Culpepper said. “If I’m traded, ultimately my contract has to be restructured and I will not restructure it.” Everyone knows that with making $5.5 mil this season, no team is going to take on Culpepper at that price, so a new deal with have to be in place with a team that will deal for the QB.

| | Culpepper joins "As the QB World Turns" | | 2007-06-09 07:15:08 | | It was just a couple weeks ago when Daunte Culpepper talked about how he didn't worry about things like new QB's coming in. That was shortly after the Fins used a 2nd round pick on a QB.So let's recap the last week for C-Pep. He was given the green light to take his knee on the practice field on Monday. Tuesday those trade talks for Trent Green finally came to a head. As no surprise Daunte was told on Wednesday he was going to be traded. Culpepper, who doesn't worry about things like that, told the team on Thursday he would like to be released. He isn't going to go easy. Although understanding about the business side of the situation, Culpepper feels slighted by the Dolphins here. He makes a very good point in our opinion addressing it on Thursday."I must say the impatience the organization displayed in both encouraging me to rush back on the field last year and then rushing me out the door this year is disappointing," Culpepper said. "However, I understand that they have the right to make that business decision. It is now my turn to make some decisions."So with that we come to Friday. As practice started Culpepper was right there along with the other QB's tossing balls around. He was told prior to practice that he would not be getting any reps beyond one-on-one drills. The Dolphins do have to protect their investment...for now...right? They can't have him getting hurt when they are already trying to trade away his knee and salary."I understand totally what's going on," said Culpepper, who is adamant that he wants to be released, not traded. "Instead of wasting time out there watching practice, I went into the weight room and got a little bit stronger."They are going to do what's best for them," Culpepper said before correcting himself by adding, "what they think is best for them."Headlines were a bit misleading. Saying he was "escorted" off the field (by the guy who had the keys to the weight room)paints a picture of a disgruntled postal employee. I don't ... | | By: TINO's Bloghouse | | |
| | Culpepper Update | | 2007-06-07 04:43:02 | | The NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that there are 3 teams who are involved in "discussions" regarding Daunte Culpepper. Apparently, the Dolphins are asking for a late-round pick. And despite Daunte saying he doesn't want to be traded, Schefter reports that Daunte would be willing to restructure his contract so that he can get a chance with another team. As for who these 3 teams are, it's all speculation at this point and time. So how will this play out. There are 3 ways: The Dolphins reach a deal with a team for Daunte. Culpepper then agrees to a renegotiated contract with that team and everybody's happy. The Dolphins reach a deal with a team for Culpepper but he, for whatever reason, refuses to restructure his deal, therefore ending discussions with that team. The Dolphins fail to reach a deal with any team for Culpepper and he is released. The question here, though, would be at what point the Dolphins choose to release him. | | The Future of Culpepper | | 2007-06-06 18:36:52 | | Following the acquisition of Trent Green, most believed that Daunte Culpepper would be on his way out of Miami. Last night, Adam Schefter was reporting that he believed Culpepper was "one and done" in Miami and threw out 2 possible destinations for Culpepper: Atlanta, Jacksonville, and St. Louis. This morning, we find out that the Dolphins have informed Culpepper that they will look to trade him. However, Culpepper doesn't want to be traded. Says Culpepper: "This morning I met with Randy Mueller and Cam Cameron. They finally notified me that they are going in a different direction at the QB position. They would like to trade me in order to `get something for me.' However, it is my position that I have already been down that road and I am not interested in being traded. They have told me throughout the off-season that I am under contract to the Dolphins. Therefore, it will be up to them to either keep me under contract or release me. In the meantime I will cont... | | By: The Phinsider | | |
