Darkman and CY Head to Frisco
    2007-07-06 05:48:00
Hideki Okajima and Chris Young won their respective elections as the "32nd man" to be included in the All-Star Game this coming Tuesday night in San Francisco. Well done, Red Sox and Padres fans across the nation. The Darkman edged out Jeremy Bonderman to become the third Sox pitcher heading to the game, and it's also the first time that the Red Sox have ever done that. The Sox now have the most players going to San Francisco, as Okajima joins Jonathan Papelbon, Josh Beckett, Mike Lowell, Manny Ramirez, and David Ortiz at the Midsummer Classic. And a pox on those Yankee fans who were trying to get Pat Neshek of the Minnesota Twins elected. I like Neshek a lot as a setup man, as I have him on one of my fantasy teams. But in an ironic twist, the Yankees won today over Minnesota on a two-run home run by Hideki Matsui in the eighth inning off: Pat Neshek.Congratulations, Darkman. Have a great time in San Francisco.

    2007-07-02 14:08:00
Just click on the title, right here, and vote. I've voted 10 times already on this early Monday morning. He's the best left-handed reliever in the league, with a 0.90 ERA, he pitches for our Red Sox, and he needs our help. I've already talked via email to my Japanese friends, and they're busy voting right now. Please, do the same. Click on the title, and thank you. I so appreciate it.

Downbound Train----Red Sox All Star Selections, And Vote For Hideki Okajima, The DARKMAN!
    2007-07-02 12:21:00
Another 2-1 loss. This is getting ridiculous! But it's true. The Red Sox lost Sunday yet again to the Texas Rangers and their mediocre starting pitching. And with Gabbard going today, who knows what will happen? The Sox were 13-14 in the month of June. They had the second lowest ERA in the league but batted as a team only .264. Only the White Sox scored fewer runs. (Thank you Htfd. Courant). That's a far cry from the bashing teams of '03, '04 and '05. But pitching is what makes good teams great. Said Kevin Youkilis about the batting woes, also from the Courant........"We're going to go through ruts," said Kevin Youkilis, who reached base three times but didn't score. "You're going to have your down times. Right now we're not scoring runs, but we're pitching well. If we keep pitching well, we'll win games. It's going to happen. Just be patient. We're not playing that great, hitting-wise, but it's one of those things."Wise words? I sure hope so. What's important right now

More Darkman, From Michael Silverman's (of the Boston Herald) Blog.
    2007-05-22 12:54:00
**My post about Monday's Red Sox-Yankee game follows this post.**This was in the Boston Herald's Michael Silverman blog last night, before the NY game. He's asked the public to help him with a nickname for Hideki Okajima. I've called Okajima "THE DARKMAN" since the beginning of March ( my March 3rd, 2007 post), and many of you (but not enough!) have emailed him, per his request. With that thought in mind, here is Michael's blog post from Tuesday......and huge thanks go to one of the best sportswriters I've EVER read...... ***************************************************"Sorry, Darkman"Posted by Michael Silverman at 7:42 pm. Tuesday May 21, 2007 NEW YORK — "This giving Hideki Okajima a nickname business is getting interesting. I’ve gotten some great responses so far — they will be revealed later – but first a clarification. It was Peter, not Ian, who came up with the Darkman nickname. Click on his link (http://peteronall.blogspot.com/) to find some passionate feelings

Will Hideki Okajima Be Known As THE DARKMAN? It's Up TO US!
    2007-05-20 19:02:00
Hello on this Sunday, and I have a huge favor to ask you. I linked the Boston Herald's Michael Silverman article from today's paper. PLEASE click on the title of this post and scroll to the bottom of page one, continued on page two. His subject? Hideki Okajima, who is right now THE BEST lefthander in MLB. He's another weapon from our Red Sox bullpen. I have called him THE DARKMAN since he said before season's start that he prefers to remain in the shadow of his countrymate and fellow pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka...a "hero of the dark." And I have been calling him that since my post here dated March 03. THE DARKMAN. He comes out of the bullpen, our wonderful bullpen, and snuffs out all enemy batters. His ERA is less than the price for your newspaper!!!! So please click on the title of this very post and scroll to the bottom. And when you see some of the possible nicknames, you'll realize that THE DARKMAN LIVES!And if you can, email Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald. HERE IS HIS D

Beckett, The Darkman, The Mets and United
    2007-05-03 17:31:00
Not a bad day yesterday for the teams I support, as well as a rotten one for those I don't support.Josh Beckett (pictured) became the majors' first six-game winner as the Red Sox beat the Oakland A's, 6-4 at Fenway last night. Coco Crisp continued his strong hitting, going 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored, and he made a tremendous diving catch in the ninth to help short circuit an A's rally against Mike Timlin, who got his first save of the year.Beckett also became the first Red Sox pitcher since Roger Clemens (remember him?) in 1991 to win his first six starts of the season. Beckett pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs in getting the victory.Hideki Okajima pitched another strong eighth inning and yesterday was voted the AL Rookie Pitcher of the Month for April. It's ridiculous to think of the Japanese veteran Okijima as a rookie, but those are MLB rules. The Darkman continues to impress mightily, as his ERA for April was an astounding 0.71, and he's only allowed five h
