Western Digital hard drive data recovery
    2008-07-03 08:40:33
A friend of mine found this company which does data recovery for western digital. It looks like a great deal. Flat rate recovery based on the size of your hard drive. No data no charge guarantee. The price includes an external drive and turn around is within a couple of weeks. So that recovery quote you got for $2000 would be $1195. That's a pretty good deal if you ask me. Plus if your drive is

Data Recovery 2.0! The Next Generation of Data Recovery
    2008-05-27 10:47:00
Data Recovery 2.0! The Next Generation of Data RecoveryUnbelievably, less than 10% of all computer users actually have a backup of their hard drives. With the price of hard drives continually falling, one can easily get a 500Gb hard drive for less than .25 on the Gigabyte. Yet the lack of backup trend continues.Hard drives are mechanical, which means they can fail, and they do. Furthermore, hard drive data encoding is done using magnetic media. This fact alone should send off warning signals and alarms. think of the cassette tape and how easily it can be erased simply by placing it in proximity to a speaker, or a magnet. Have any cassette tapes stored away for a few years? Dig them out and see if they still have anything on them, I'll bet they don't.Data loss is painful, speaking from experience. I still have hard drives with data on them that I cannot retrieve. The only option remaining for me is to purchase the services of a data recovery company, and trust me, I have exhausted

Losing Your Mind with Data Recovery
    2008-05-25 03:12:34
For nearly all computer users, losing data can be a very traumatic experience. If you use your computer for a business or for other important matters, it can be very stressful and very traumatic to lose everything you have worked months, and possibly even years to build.Even though you may back up your data on a periodic basis, you’ll still need to check the backup to make sure that everything works. Nothing can be worse than backing something up, only to find months later that something went wrong. No matter who you are, or what business you work for, data loss can happen. Computers are great, although they aren’t perfect. Over time, your hard drive can crash or malfunction, which will result in the loss of everything you have stored on your computer.Whenever this happens to you, it’s always a good thing there’s data recovery. Without data recovery, it wouldn’t be possible to retrieve files, recover information, or simply get back to the data you spent years building. To

    Data Recovery Procedures
    2008-05-21 04:27:50
Your computer is always at risk regardless of where you stay, work, or type of computer that you use. Among the threats to computers include viruses, power surges, thunderstorms, natural disasters, human mistakes, & hackers; all of which could cause your computer’s hard drive to fail. Hence, doing data backups frequently is a thing to do in case any of the aforementioned happens to your computer. A hard disk that is about to fail will produce clunking sounds or other signs like lost drive sectors & failure to boot. You should shut down your computer immediately to avoid data loss.Otherwise the hard disk will function awkwardly & destroy itself including your data stored in it. Of course, you should never try to fix your computer’s hard drive on your own or else you could make the situation worse. The process of data recovery requires special tools & clean working environment, not to mention the hours or days it takes to do the work! Software used for data recovery s

    4 Tips for Data Recovery
    2008-05-08 20:45:46
In the other post, I have mentioned that providing good maintenance for your computer is paramount to ensuring that your data will not become lost. Now, I shall tell you some tips for data recovery in case something happens to your computer’s hard drive.1) Always backup your data; not on the same hard drive or at least on a different partition of the same hard drive.2) Turn off the computer when it’s not in use & when you suspect the hard drive going kaput; usually with a clunking sound.3) Avoid data recovery software because it will over write your lost data4) Always let the professional data recovery specialist do the work for you & bring the hard drive over to them A.S.A.P.

Practice Good Computer Maintenance Regards to Data Recovery
    2008-05-08 19:28:44
In the event your computer’s hard drive goes kaput, you will probably need to turn to a data recovery specialist to help retrieve your lost data. Anybody who has used a computer often will have felt how it feels to lose data. It may have been forgetting to save a written document before the computer crashes or perhaps even experiencing a total data loss when a hard drive ceases to function. Hard drives nowadays are becoming better & more dependable. In fact, I have been using mine since middle 2004 without any problems. Wow, it’s almost 5 years down the road without a single major glitch!*WHhoooTTtt! *Yeah, I am so proud of it! I prefer the Maxtor brand. I did not have a good experience with Seagate hard drives prior to 2004. Regardless of the brand, hard drives are mechanical in nature & are susceptible to encounter problems especially without good computer maintenance. I must admit that my computer’s hard drive had suddenly crashed once or twice a few months ago. It did

Let the Trained Data Recovery Technicians Do the Hard Work
    2008-04-27 18:25:00
People who do not know how to work the innards of the computer’s hard drive by hand is not recommended to be opening the device as an attempt to recover data. A careless hand can easily scratch hard disk platter’s surface & result in the data being lost without any hope of recovery. The innards of the hard drive, namely the platters and the actuator arm move at very fast speeds hence the need for perfection in its assembly.Tampering with the drive & attempting to rebuild the drive on one’s own amateurish capability will likely cause a device malfunction. Trained technicians at the data recovery specialist shop work with hard drives everyday & know how to dissemble & reassemble the hard drive efficiently. Leave the hard work to the trained technicians as your data can be recovered faster & without any fuss.

Data Recovery: Maybe Not on Your Own
    2008-04-26 08:00:11
Missing data? There is usually only one thing to do which is to use data recovery to recover the missing data. It’s a very complicated process. It is possible that you would need expert help regarding the matter. Hard drives are very complex machines with fragile components in them. More often than not, only trained people should be attempting to go inside the physical bowels of a hard drive.Usually, just like when you send your computer for repair, a trained technician will have a look at your hard drive then inform you of the problem & cost. Don’t be surprised when you are mentioned about the cost. You may as well try to bargain the price or go to another data recovery specialist. Just don’t try to do it your self because there is the risk that the data will be unrecoverable by the data recovery specialist after your attempt. How about a disk repair utility? Should you use one in case the data on your hard drive cannot be accessed? In case you are just about to do it, then m

I am in need of data recovery
    2008-02-25 23:18:29
I was just telling everybody awhile back about how I needed a data recovery software to be able to retrieve my lost data. See, I was uninstalling my web-camera driver when all of a sudden I forgot that our old computer was connected to the switch I happened to turn off because it was just supposed to turn off our new computer. I forgot that the two computer was connected, and interrupted the uninstalling process. So then, when I turned our old computer back on, it wouldn't start, and no matter what I do to specify the normal start up or log on, nothing seem to progress, so finally, I just thought a recovery CD would help, and loaded it up, until it actually re-formatted and lost the old partition. Now, all our files in the old computer are gone. I tried to recover them by purchasing a file retriever software, but so far, all I have done is spend money, I bought another software just the other day, but still nothing helped. I need a data recovery to retrieve my files
    2008-02-05 20:00:31
I bought a new computer-yes, finally. I am so happy that I was able to buy something for myself, and I am satisfied for now. Well, anyway, what I want to talk about here is that I lost, I mean wiped out our old computer. I didn't mean to do so, but accidentally it got absolutely screwed up. I was writing files to a cd, but then since our old computer is running out of memory I had to get rid of some software, and when I tried to uninstall my web-camera-the driver, I forgot that our old computer was connected to the switch I turned off when I shutdown my computer-the new one. So there, the uninstall was interupted, and wiped our old computer out; the files. I couldn't start our old computer then when that happened, and as frustrated as I became, I decided to use the recovery cd/'s which it did a reformat. Now, our old computer is like never been used, as if we just bought it, the C: Drive has a huge free space. So, ugh! I have to worry about finding a software that can bring back all th

    The data recovery process
    2008-01-10 08:51:00
Data recovery, according to the word sleuths and data recovery experts, is the process of salvaging of deleted or inaccessible data stored on damaged media like magnetic disks and computer hard drives, optical devices, and tape cartridges. A large number of data recovery software and data recovery service is designed to help users retrieve their files at the event of a computer crash or viral infection. The first step of the process of data recovery service usually involves evaluation where the initial analysis of the extent of the data lost is determined. After the prognosis, the data recovery experts and technicians would then proceed in "cloning" or copying the media and queuing it into their systems. The actual data recovery process occurs when the technicians secure and extract the data from the copy of the damaged media.A damaged media has the data locked within it and it is the job of highly experienced hardware and software engineers to unlock it. These two teams of data recovery experts work very closely together throughout the project, combining all their experiences in their respective fields to solve the problem quickly and surely. For safety measures, hardware engineers access as much of the disk as they can to produce the copy which they then share with the software specialists. The bulk of the data recovery process lies on the software team as they are the ones who do the actual extraction using complicated software programs designed especially for data recovery work. The ensuing data are then filed and written onto a new, undamaged media.faq

    Linux data recovery: pt.3
    2007-12-03 08:53:00
If the failed drive is the primary IDE master drive, use the following command. Otherwisesubstitute /dev/hda with the device path listed above.bash# /sbin/sfdisk -l /dev/hdaThe output of this command provides information on the hard drive geometry (heads, sectors and cylinders), and then lists the partition information. Check the geometry and capacity against what is known about the failed drive so that you don't "recover" data from the wrong device.Partitions must start and end on cylinder boundaries. Unfortunately many older versions ofWindows had trouble with disks which had few heads and a large number of cylinders, someBIOS implementations and drives lie about their geometry. Because Linux tends to read thegeometry from the drive, and Windows tends to read it from the BIOS, problems can occur when the drive-read an BIOS-read geometries don't match. Linux data recovery: pt.2
    2007-12-03 08:51:00
The first step in performing any data recovery is usually to create an image of each file system onthe drive. The images can be stored on a USB hard drive, the system hard drive, a network fileshare, or somewhere else. By creating an image, we allow ourselves to do two things we could not otherwise do. First weallow ourselves to screw up and still have a chance to get back to where we started. In caseswhere the file system is damaged, this sort of mistake is not uncommon. Secondly, we reduce thestress we put on a potentially failing hard drive so that no more data is lost than absolutelynecessary.

In cases of data recovery, it is generally important to understand the problem so that furtherdamage is not caused in the process. In cases where drive failure is involved, it is almost alwayssafest to send the drive to dedicated data recovery specialists who can disassemble the drive asneeded. This process is, however, expensive and must be weighed against the value of the databeing recovered.Even if there are no signs of drive failure, the safest solution is to assume that the drive is failing.

    Data recovery: reiserfs partition
    2007-11-29 09:23:00
Once you realize that you've lost data, don't do anything else on that partition - you may cause that data to be overwritten by new data.Unmount that partition. e.g., umount /homeFind out what actual device this partition refers to. You can usually get this information from the file /etc/fstab. We'll assume here that the device is /dev/hda3.Run the command: reiserfsck --rebuild-tree -S -l /root/recovery.log /dev/hda3 You need to be root to do this. Read the reiserfsck man page for what these options do and for more options. Some interesting options are '--rebuild-sb, --check' After the command finishes, which might be a long time for a big partition, you can take a look at the logfile /root/recovery.log if you wish.Mount your partition: mount /homeLook for the lost+found directory in the root of the partition. Here, that would be: /home/lost+foundThis directory contains all the files that could be recovered. Unfortunately, the filenames are not preserved for a lot of files. You'll find some sub-directories - filenames within those are preserved!Look through the files and copy back what you need.

Phoenix Data Recovery Software is 3 times faster!
    2007-08-27 17:14:00
Following my recent post covering data recovery for hard drives, I stumbledupon a data recovery product called Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software. I will have a review of the product shortly. I am hoping to test their data recovery services on a hardware level. I'll keep you posted! Stellar launches Version 3.0 of Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software– The v3.0 of Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software has a new scanning & recovery engine that is three times faster and much more efficient. Stellar Information Systems, the industry's leading and most advanced provider of data recovery products and services has announced the immediate availability of the latest version of their flagship product, v3.0 Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software, advanced recovery software designed for safe and non-destructive data recovery from hard disk or any removable media. This is the latest version of Stellar Phoenix FAT & NTFS. The new version is powered by a new engine that scans drives in an efficient manner and at a much faster speed. V3.0 also enables faster file recovery with improved data transfer speeds and the recovered files can be saved in compressed form. The new user interface of the software makes it easier to use. This streamlined screen layout helps the user to spend more time in recovering the data and gives better results at a faster pace. The product has various important features such as File Preview, RAW Data Recovery, Create Image to name a few. With “File Preview” feature the user can view preview of files and hence get a fair idea about the recovery results. The “RAW Data Recovery” feature helps to recover 300 different file types including MS-Office, web, images, movie, digital camera and application files, in spite of severe file corruption or overwritten. The “Create an image” feature of the latest version creates an image of hard disk drive, floppy disk, CD / DVD storage media and logical drives. When there are bad sectors in the storage media, it becomes difficult and time consuming to scan and recover the data from the media. However, “Create an image” feature simplifies this and helps to scan the image at a faster pace with better results. “The storage media is susceptible to crash due to various reasons. This is precisely where a post crash data recovery tool like Stellar Phoenix comes handy to recover data from an inaccessible or a partially accessible hard disk,” said Sunil Chandna, CEO, Stellar Information Systems Ltd. “The advanced recovery process is capable enough to ensure that all the precious data are retrieved from the affected system. Stellar Phoenix can locate, recover and restore lost data from any severe file system corruption,” he further stated. The pricing of the software starts from $99 and is available online as well as through the company's partner network across the globe. Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software is Vista compatible and available in five different software interface languages—English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. This article will show you a few things NOT to do when an event such as this occurs.Don't run the drive anymore, or use the device. (MP3, portable storage, camera card, whatever) If you think it won't hurt to even just poke around the internet for a solution to this mess you've made/found, you're wrong! Don't install or run anything on the drive you hope to recover data from. Only access this drive again from a healthy PC with the software solution you're going to use. Since files are overwritten in the order they've been deleted, the last files that have been excised from your drive will be the first to be lost permanently. Even just surfing, with all the cookies and temporary internet files that are always being generate
