At this point, it's almost laughable to suggest that any team without it might have a chance of playing in October; that's how far we've come. Yet, as much as we've done to counteract old, tired cliches about winning being a result of talent, mixed, perhaps, with a little luck, we grudgingly tip our caps to Newsday's Wallace Matthews, who can truthfully claim to have done more than any other member of the media to advance the notion that success depends entirely on desire.
