| Anwar Ibrahim - Shabery Cheek debate | | 2008-07-15 10:16:00 | | Anwar - Shabery live debate on Astro Awani channel 501 and TV9, organised by Agendadaily.com (image credit: Malaysiakini)After watching the debate, "Hari ini membentuk kerajaan, esok turun harga minyak", I think it was pretty obvious that Dato' Seri Anwar was the better person. Though Dato' Shabery did brought up some good points, it was no match to the points and details raised by Dato' Seri Anwar. I doubt any UMNO supporters would claim that Shabery 'won' the debate. I'd say Shabery has failed in his duty as a representative of the government to explain the rational and the reason of the government's policy to increase the price of petrol. By saying this I am not implying that I agree with the petrol increase. It is just that Shabery was not convincing enough. I shooked my head in disbelieve when he spoke again and again about the 1974 demonstrasi mahasiswa issue for the third time toward the ending speech. What has this got to do with the debate topic? | The Debate Over The Apocrypha - Why Are There Extra Books In The "Catholic Bible" That Aren't In The Bible That Most Christians Read? | | 2008-07-02 13:45:00 | | The Apocrypha ("hidden", "doubtful") most commonly refers to a group of disputed books which are rejected by Protestants and most other Christian groups and accepted by the Roman Catholic organization. So why are these books in the "Catholic Bible" and not in other Bibles? The folks over at inplainsite.org have done a very good job of explaining the issues behind this debate. The article linked to below will answer such questions as:-Did the Jews consider the Apocrypha part of the Old Testament?-What did Jesus think of the Apocrypha?-Does the New Testament refer to the Apocrypha?-Did the early church fathers believe the Apocrypha was authoritative?-What kinds of problems do we find with the Apocrypha? For those who are curious about this topic I would encourage you to go read the article:http://www.inplainsite.org/html/apocrypha.html

My brother seems to think that i don't go into enough detail in my posts on my new site Game FreakZ, but i seem to think it's ok from a bloggers point of view.
I said to him that people just want to read the basics. I know me myself i hate reading posts that are too long, and take forever to read.
I just like to get straight to the point, and talk about what i need to without boring people.
But what do you guys think do your prefer detailed posts, or just short and sweet?

| Canada's Dress Rehersal for the U.S. Carbon Tax Debate | | 2008-06-18 23:00:00 | | Both Senator McCain and Senator Obama favor a cap and trade system as a means of limiting American's reliance on carbon-based products. A cap and trade system has the effect of a carbon tax except that it is managed through a regulatory regime rather than the tax code. Thanks to our neighbors to the North, we no longer have to speculate what the debate will look like when the next president introduces his solution to global climate change. Canadian Liberal Leader Stephane Dion has introduced a real carbon tax that "would impose a tax of $10 per tonne of greenhouse gas emissions in the first year, rising to $40 per tonne in the fourth year," reports the Toronto Star. http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/445604To assuage charges that such a tax (C$15.5 billion annually) would be place an undue burden on low-income citizens and, potentially harm the economy, Dion promises to cut individual and business taxes. Last week, neurosurgeons told CNN that they did not hold cellphones next to their ears. "I think the safe practice," said Dr. Keith Black, a surgeon in Los Angeles, "is to use an earpiece so you keep the microwave antenna away from your brain." Dr. Vini Khurana, an associate professor of neurosurgery at the Australian National University, said: "I use it on the speaker-phone mode. I do not hold it to my ear." And CNN's chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a neurosurgeon at Emory University Hospital, said that like Dr. Black he used an earpiece.Along with Senator Edward M. Kennedy's recent diagnosis of a glioma, a type of tumor that critics have long associated with cellphone use, the doctors' remarks have helped reignite a long-simmering debate about cellphones and cancer. That supposed link has been largely dismissed by many experts, including the American Cancer Society. | Capital Gains Tax Continues to Roil Economic Debate on Anniversary of Bush Tax Cut | | 2008-05-26 23:00:00 | | Tomorrow, May 28, 2008, is the fifth anniversary of the second round of Bush tax cuts to personal income, known officially as the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief and Reconciliation Act of 2003 (JGTRRA).Impatient with the economic stagnation that followed the enactment of the first Bush tax cut two years earlier, the Republican congress pushed JGTRRA through during the spring of 2003 to accelerate the tax rate cuts that were scheduled to occur in dribs and drabs over the next several years. JGTRRA also cut the tax rate on long-term capital gains from 20 percent to 15 percent. The Tax Foundation has expanded its historical table of capital gains tax rates, back in time to 1988 and forward into the future, when the current rate is scheduled to expire in 2011.The 2003 tax cut for capital gains was JGTRRA'a most controversial provision for two reasons.First is the Democratic Party theme that capital gains should be taxed at least as heavily as wages, and second is the Republican Party theme that | | By: Tax Policy Blog

| Titanium Hammer Debate | | 2008-05-22 07:08:41 | | Recently I've been noticing more and more carpenters using Titanium hammers like the one shown in this picture. Now my first reaction to this is are you kidding me, these things cost $200 and are about 45% lighter than steel. Now call me crazy but last time I checked force is equal to mass times velocity. So why on earth would you want a lighter hammer? So you can try to swing 45% faster to produce the same force? This has been bugging me for some time because I love new gadgets but when you look at a price of $200 I have a hard time understanding why anyone would spend that kind of money on a hammer. I started asking the guys what they thought and each of them told me the same thing. After years of swinging a steel hammer my body is worn out. Now that they own a Titanium hammer they all say that their arm pains have been substantially reduced. But the real question is does it work as well?I was really surprised that they all said it works just as well. | Pennsylvania Debate Aftermath | | 2008-04-17 09:59:00 | | Last night Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama participated in their first debate in about two months in Philadelphia. This debate was significant because it represented the last best chance in which the two candidates could impact the race before the Pennsylvania primary on April 22. For Obama, a strong performance likely would have led to a much narrower Clinton victory in the primary, which could easily be spun as a moral victory for Obama who wasn't expected to win Pennsylvania to begin with. And for Clinton, a solid performance would have helped her pad her margin of probable victory in Pennsylvania and help change the narrative that she should simply get out now because Obama is the superior candidate.Obama has more money, has won more states, has won more popular votes, and has broader electoral appeal than Hillary Clinton in terms of demographics. | The 21st Debate | | 2008-04-17 03:35:16 | |
If you wanted to see where the candidates stand on the issues that matter for moving America in a new direction, there wasn't much in last night's debate. I think ABC did a horrible job. Almost the first half of the debate was spent on controversial issues that have already been endlessly jammed down our throat. This debate seemed to be designed more to help the media than it was for the voters. It was as if they were looking to create more controversy so the news media would have more material to help with their ratings. I don't believe there were any questions about education, Afghanistan, or resolving our national debt. Along with other topics of greater importance, these questions could have replaced all the controversial garbage that wasted our time. I understand that these controversial topics deserve some coverage, but lately it seems like there is a whole lot of coverage of controversy and not so much on the issues. | Pennsylvania Debate Focuses Little on the Issues | | 2008-04-17 00:28:37 | | Wednesday night’s debate in Pennsylvania featured questions about some of the most controversial statements and potentially damaging campaign supporters. On a couple of occasions in the last weeks, I just said some things that were not in keeping with what I knew to be the case.” “I’m embarrassed by it. I apologized for it. I said it was a mistake,” she added. I wonder if she realizes that in that statement she said that she’s not dumb, she just knowingly lied about some things. One thing she obviously has not learned is that in the modern age we can find video of almost anything. As first lady your trips are well documented and there | | By: The Mersman Political Blog

| Recap of the Pennsylvania Debate | | 2008-04-16 22:57:00 | | I do have to apologize as I did not actually watch the debate thanks my DVR mysteriously not working, but nonetheless I did catch up on the main points through videos from ABC and YouTube. Well ladies and gentleman the 21st debate for the Dems was uneventful for the most part. This time the debate was hosted by ABC and moderated by Charles Gibson, and George Stephanopoulos. I wouldn't call this debate a "lovefest", but it wasn't really catty either. There were some humorous moments in the deba | | By: The Political Point | | |

PHILADELPHIA — Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton went on the attack against Senator Barack Obama on a variety of issues during a contentious debate Wednesday, warning that he would be deeply vulnerable in a general-election fight if he won the nomination.

| Pennsylvania Democrat Debate | | 2008-04-16 14:45:00 | | The Pennsylvania Democrat Debate is on tonight at 8pm on ABC. The stakes are very high for both candidates tonight and it will be interesting to see who will be taking the offensive. Expectations are high for Obama tonight coming off this weekends coverage of "bitter-gate", and he has to prove that this party is ready for him to have this nomination. Clinton has a score to settle, and she has to prove that this party isn't ready for Obama. Lets hope sparks fly and this is a very good debate a | | By: The Political Point | | |

| Observations on Tax Talk from Democratic Debate | | 2008-04-15 23:00:00 | | Some observations on how taxes were discussed in tonight's high profile Democratic debate: Best comment of the night on tax policy: Obama refuting Hillary Clinton regarding the payroll tax cap. Clinton used rhetoric that it would hit firefighters and educators. Obama essentially asked how many firefighters and teachers make over $102,000 ($97,500 in 2007)? He also pointed out to Clinton that the Social Security reform done in the 1980s actually raised the retirement age and raised taxes, the latter which Clinton had criticized Obama for.Worst comments: Obama and Clinton endorsing a windfall profits tax on oil companies. If the oil companies are truly "gouging" as they also suggested, then that's illegal and the FTC should investigate. But that's been done. And even if the oil companies were artificially restricting supply (i.e. market manipulation), the end result would be in the same direction as a carbon tax or cap-and-trade | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |

Si la iniciativa prospera | | By: Apoderate | | |

| The "is Wang an ace" debate is over? I don't think so | | 2008-04-12 10:47:00 | | Mark Feinsand and Tyler Kepner both wrote on their blogs today that Wang has answered all the questions about being an ace; well I don't think he has - at least not yet.Wang is usually criticized for not striking out enough batters and not being a good road pitcher. His K's are not a major concern of mine, last year his K/9 rate improved last year to 4.70, a career high, and I think it will get even better this season. On the other hand, his road numbers do concern me, and I feel that is the que | | By: Sliding Into Home | | |

| The Debate is Over! | | 2008-04-09 12:11:38 | | Once again, I Comandante D, have taken control of this tool of the oppressors to bring you news of the glorious struggle!Today, we of the Plant Liberation Army-PLA (nt) bring you information on a problem that has far-reaching political and economic consequences for all the people of Earth. I'm referring of course, to the now closed debate on: Global Eating. As the graph below clearly demonstrates, over time there is a near perfect correlation between increased food consumption and world-wide death. There are of course detractors. People who refuse to see the truth, or who even deny reality. Many of these are scientists who are in the pay of BIG FOOD.But the facts speak for themselves."Every year, more and more food is produced and consumed. And every year, more people die."(Source: Me, Just Now)We must therefore, as a world of uncaring individuals and caring collectives, begin NOW to stop this march to extinction. | Special Interests, Housing, and the Current Tax Debate in the United States Senate | | 2008-04-04 23:00:00 | | Steve Pearlstein of the Washington Post had a rather amusing yet at the same time somewhat scary look at the current debacle that is taking place in the U.S. Senate with regards to housing and the tax code. It's scary because what he says is true, and it says a lot for the state of tax policy in America.Hold on to your wallets, Mr. and Mrs. America, Max and Chuck are at it again.Yes, our favorite sugar beet socialist and cornhusk communitarian have decided to ride to the rescue of the nation's troubled housing sector. It all started on Monday when members of the Senate returned to Washington after another two-week recess in which they apparently discovered that voters actually expected them to do something about the housing crisis rather than just talking about it until the next recess. So Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman and ranking member, respectively, of the Senate Finance Committee, took the opportunity to dust off a quartet of stinky ta | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |

| The Great Defensive End Debate | | 2008-03-13 10:44:55 | | Kelsay: part of the depth, or part of the problem? (BuffaloBills.com) This has been a topic highly and heatedly debated this off-season. We've seen post after post (recent example) and comment after comment regarding the issue. That question is, of course, this: should the Buffalo Bills draft a defensive end in the first round of the 2008 Draft? If you think conversation has been heated over the past couple of days, this should bring that simmer to a boil. There are a few sides to this debate; we'll cover each of those, I'll state my opinion on how defensive end should be addressed, and then y'all will have a chance to rip each other to shreds. We've had a lot of new users register at the site over the past couple of weeks, and I'd like to applaud all of the newbies for (in general) keeping things civil and non-personal during discussions. Recently they gave me this cool badge for getting my debate lens in top 50:It's about the eternal question of who would win in a fight: a pirate or a ninja. Please join!
