Over Populated Deer with Too Many Deer Might change Forests Plants, more Diseases, the Future
    2008-07-18 10:26:25
I am in a state we are over populated by deer with too many. I was talking to a guy today telling me the reason the forest are having a hard time growing back is because of too many deer. That the reason is that they eat all the baby trees then they never get a chance to grow again. Along with trees disappearing with being cut down then not being planted back all over again. With the increased deer herd in the forest that it is also killing off wild ginseng as well as other plant species. I wond

    Deer Hunt Damage
    2008-06-03 19:54:48
A deer hunter was out enjoying a nice day out in the woods when he decided to take a leak. He walked over to a tree and propped up his gun. Just then a gust of wind blew, the gun fell over and discharged shooting him in the genitals. Several hours later, lying in a hospital bed, he was approached by his doctor, who said, "Well sir, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that you are going to be OK. The damage was local to your groin, there was very little internal damage and we were able to remove all of the buck shot." "The bad news is that there was some pretty extensive damage done to your manly part I'm going to have to refer you to my brother." "Oh, well I guess that isn't too bad," the man replied "is your brother a plastic surgeon?" "Not exactly. he's a flute player in the local symphony. He's going to teach you where to put your fingers so you don't pee in your eye" (via Phil’s Phun)

    Dancing Deer Brownies
    2008-01-05 21:36:00
Cheryl & Matt bought Kasi and Stephen some "Chocolate Chunk Brownies" from Dancing Deer Baking Co. Holy cow (err, deer) they're delicious!I'm not the biggest brownie fan, and find most fancy shmancy brands (like Fat Witch) passable at best. But I really enjoyed the bite of these brownies. They are very rich, but not too rich. The texture is perfectly dense with slight cakiness, with a few chunks of chocolate scattered about. And the flavor is just excellent.Jessica found the brownies mediocre, tasting too sweet and too fudge-like for her. This is where we disagree. I vote these as some of the best I've had (at least in recent memory). But looking at the purchase price of $19.50 for eight (plus shipping), I'm a bit stunned. I think I'll stick with homemade.

    Oh, Deer!
    2007-11-25 22:14:00
First of all, I failed NaBloPoMo. I had my computer right there in front of me every day, and I just didn't want to do it. A big fat "F" for me. But to put things in perspective, 1,250,000 children starved to death this month, which thing I had nothing to do with. Go get mad at somebody else.Moving right along. We spent the holidays in Utah. It's always entertaining to drive up a couple of times a year and experience dry skin, flat hair and an irrationally bloody nose. Hoping to beat traffic, we left for home this morning at 5 am. I've been tense on the road lately because of an article my husband sent me. Earlier this month, a 600 pound cow fell off a cliff and landed on the hood of a moving minivan. The story terrified me. How do you guard against something like that?Although the Utah basin is flat as a pancake, I scanned for hidden cliffs as I drove through the pre-dawn. My vigilance was rewarded - I spotted a deer far ahead. I slowed to 65 mph and watched to make sure the doe cle

    Deer Season
    2007-10-17 13:42:00
The lead story on our local cable news station last night was about how it was Autumn and that meant an increase in car accidents involving deer. While I mused over the merits of this getting the lead over other stories in the line-up, I shared the car-deer story with Matt. That led to the following (warning: language ahead):Anchor/Mark: Thank you for joining us on this Tuesday, October 16th. We begin tonight with an investigative report from Local News Reporter Sewer VanLair. We now go to Sewer live in the field, Sewer?Reporter/Sewer: Yes Mark. It's Autumn and state officials say that means an increase in car accidents involving deer. As you can see Mark, I just hit a fucking deer with the news jeep. CHRIST! Not even my deer whistles worked! Oh yeah! It would have been great to have known BEFORE this story that experts have determined that deer whistles don't work, but NOOOooooOO, I had to go and believe you guys that I'd be okay with taking the back roads of Stockton at 60 miles per hour and that these fucking whistles would work. Well Mark, I think I'm going to head over to Forte after this and grab a Southern Tier Harvest. Wait, what? They're all sold out of fucking Harvest?? October is turning out to be a shitty month. Damnit! Back to you Mark.

    Highland Deer Spotting
    2007-06-10 11:51:26
Last week we stayed at a holiday cottage on the Leckmelm estate just outside Ullapool, in the Scottish Higlands.  One evening as I was descending the stairs in the cottage I spotted a deer grazing just outside the cottage, through the glass at the top of the front door. We saw many deer during our week in the Highlands. unfortunately several of them dead by the road side.  It is one of the hazards of driving in the Highlands.  We did have deer cross the road in front of us but it was a single track road so we’d time to slow down.  We watched a couple of deer grazing in a field below one of the walks from the cottage. There were aware that we were close and would look up regularly to check on us. Technorati Tags: Scottish Highlands, deer
