Real Estate/Credit Deflation 16: The Next Dozen Shoes to Drop
    2008-05-09 13:58:55
“If the shoe fits, it’s too expensive.” ~ Adrienne Gusoff I was offered a very nice position with Fisher Investments of Woodside, California last year and, although I passed on the opportunity, I truly respect their money management track record. At the same time, I have noticed from their website that they are comparing the [...]...

Real Estate/Credit Deflation 14: Anatomy of a Murder - By Steve Moyer
    2008-03-05 23:55:27
“And there should be no doubt about who is really responsible for the subprime woes. The investment banks employ some of the country’s “best and brightest” — sharp guys who have studied at some of our finest colleges and universities. Does anyone really believe that a Harvard MBA — who understands all the fine-points of [...]...

    2008-02-14 10:03:07
“I always felt very secure and very safe with real estate. Real estate always appreciates.” ~Ivana Trump Before we begin our next hair-raiser, I notice a lot of people scratching their heads as global stock markets decline in the face of a “strong global economy.” What you are seeing is the “pricing in” of approximately [...]...

    Deflation to the Rescue
    2007-11-24 11:21:00
by Clif DrokeTime is the least common denominator of all things, including in the stock market. We'd all be lost if we couldn't look at the clock throughout the day since time is our frame of reference for the day's activities. So are the days of the calendar and so are the dominant equity market cycles. With that in mind, let's step back for a minute and consider where we are in the grand scheme of the 60-year cycle. The 60-year cycle is one of the most profound market cycles of our lifetime since it usually bottoms at least once during the average lifespan. The 60-year cycle also closely correlates with the 50-70 year Kondratieff economic long wave (which as the name implies is a wave, not a cycle). The K-wave averages 60 years and is expected to bottom at about the same time as the current 60-year cycle, in or around 2014.The 60-year cycle is the dominant half-cycle component of the Kress 120-year Master Cycle series, which governs the major bias of the financial markets over a 1...

    Prime Example of Credit Deflation
    2007-07-02 16:31:16
Credit deflation is not just some abstract concept, it is real life activity. The article linked below highlights some concrete activities that coincide with real credit deflation. During the credit inflation, eventually rising prices allow fundamentals to be thrown out the door. As the tide rises, so to speak, you need not swim with a suit, everyone’s malinvestment is hidden by the increasing liquidity associated with ever-expanding credit. However, at some point, individuals get too far out on a limb. Fundamentals no longer support asset values. The riskiest borrowers default, the lenders must then deal with the asset that collateralized the loan. In the linked article Bear Stearns and other large investment banking institutions are described having to deal with rotten foreclosed properties en masse, as foreclosures pile up due to the effects of overly risky loans issued during the insane housing boom. Now that the tide has turned, the naked have been exposed and the pr...

Real Estate and Asset Deflation: You Assume, You Lose
    2007-05-29 21:50:08
Real Estate and Asset Deflation: You Assume, You Lose by Steve Moyer “Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows to the world. Scrub them off every once in a while or the light won’t come in.” ~Alan Alda Just to prove that every village has its idiots, an article in the San Francisco Chronicle’s Sunday Real Estate section last week featured an assortment of irresponsible “mortgage consultants” and “financial strategists” speaking enthusiastically about the idea of borrowing against the equity in your home in order to invest in the stock market (or wherever else you might want to take a chance on achieving an investment return higher than the interest rate you would pay on a home loan). It was the real estate section’s cover story. On May 20, 2007. I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that mindless hacks all hang out at the same art galleries and coffeehouses but this article was the one that finally confirmed it for me....
