The Outsourcing Domain – A Largely Democratic Setup
    2008-07-21 04:03:14
Just like the inherent difference in the socio-economic and political blueprints of various countries, business domains too have their own specific characteristics and in that context, the business process outsourcing domain is certainly not an exception. While democracy, as a concept, may have witnessed a downward trend in recent years, business domains such as outsourcing [...]

Economic Reality Check for Democratic Oil Rhetoric
    2008-07-19 23:00:00
There has been a lot of rhetoric from both parties with regards to what policies, if any, can bring down gas prices. John McCain has proposed one bad policy: a temporary gas tax holiday. But recently, the issue of offshore drilling has now come up.Republicans do tend to speak with a monotonic voice when it comes to "drill, drill, drill," but the Democratic response to this policy proposal has been pretty dishonest.Yesterday, at a blogger's convention, Al Gore claimed that drilling in Alaska would not lower the price of gasoline because the oil would be sold to China. But because oil is a global commodity, the world price would fall, leading to lower prices at the pump. Mr. Gore is either lying when he uses this rhetoric, or doesn't understand the economics of oil. He should be honest and tell the people that he doesn't believe the environmental harms are worth the lower prices of gasoline (and the further environmental harm such lower prices would do). But he should stop

Human Rights Quote (71): Democratic Peace
    2008-07-05 05:39:15
“In an increasingly interdependent world, Americans have a growing stake in how countries govern, or misgovern, themselves. The larger and more close-knit the community of nations that choose democratic forms of government, the safer and more prosperous Americans will be, since democracies are demonstrably more likely to maintain their international commitments, less likely to engage [...]

Democratic Europe? You must be joking!
    2008-06-28 11:31:18
I got an email from my friends in Open Europe. Part of the missive quotes these delectable democrats and their level of contempt for Irish voters!"They [the Irish] are bloody fools. They have been stuffing their faces at Europe's expense for years and now they dump us in the s***." - Nicolas Sarkozy, French President (Times, 20 June)"The Lisbon Treaty is not dead... It is imperative that they vote again." - Valery Giscard d'Estaing, former French President and author of the EU Constitution (RTL, 19 June)"I don't think you can say the treaty of Lisbon is dead even if the ratification process will be delayed." - Jean-Pierre Jouyet, French Europe Minister (Reuters, 16 June)"I am convinced that we need this Treaty. Therefore we are sticking with our goal for it to come into force. The ratification process must continue." - Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Foreign Minister (Reuters, 14 June)"Of course we have to take the Irish referendum seriously. Buy Or Sell: Democratic Dream Ticket
    2008-06-26 10:51:38
The ArgumentWith the Democratic primary race finally over, the talk of a so-called "Dream Ticket" has begun to re-emerge. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will make their first joint public appearance since he sealed the nomination tomorrow night. Appropriately, and not without planning, the event will take place in Unity, New Hampshire, and a number of Democratic voters are sure to begin "dreaming" again.Buy: Party UnityA Clinton pick, for whatever other benefits it may have, would be one made for the sake of party unity. As her campaign ensured we wouldn't forget, she garnered more primary votes than anyone in history and yet she is not the nominee. That defeat was a stinging disappointment that will no doubt linger with many supporters, some of whom believe the nomination was stolen from their candidate. With the political environment tilted in their favor this year, a divided base could be the greatest obstacle preventing a Democratic win in November. Selecting Clinton to be h

Grassroots Campaign to Strip Lieberman of His Rank in Democratic Party Launches Website
    2008-06-25 22:43:00
On Wednesday, a grassroots effort to remove Senator Joseph Lieberman from his high ranking chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee launched their new website campaign. Liebermanmustgo.com contains a YouTube video showcasing why he should be stripped of his rank in the party. The site is focused around gathering signatures to send to the Senate Democratic Steering Committee which makes recommendations to the Senate leader of the party. Senator Harry Reid is currently the Senate Majority leader and has the final say on committee assignments but the steering committee makes their recommendations before these assignments are made. Lieberman has been the leading Democratic supporter of the Iraq war and for the 2008 campaign has endorsed Republican candidate John McCain. Lieberman has discussed military action with Iran on numerous occasions and has even discussed a war with Syria. The video on the website highlights the re

Barack Obama, Democratic Nominee - A Personal Development Example
    2008-06-12 22:04:00
Barack Obama did it , he won the delegate race, and by doing that won the Democratic nomination. Barack took everything Senator Hillary Clinton and team threw at him, and he took it like a man, when I thought here we go again...bye...bye Mr. Obama...he survived and continued on... This man his a strength, a silent powerful strength, he is showing America what personal development can do, what faith in oneself can accomplish. Mr. Barack Obama doesn’t seem to understand failure, he doesn’t seem to hear the nay-sayers, he just goes forth, focused and determined. That my friends, is the result of a personal development and self-growth program that Obama has obviously been using through this entire campaign to reach the White House. We heard and hear personal development mentality in his speeches, in the way he carries himself. Barack Obama is a man full of will. The issues with his finances, the questions about his religion, and that situation about his pastor - all successfully dealt w

Obama Claims the Democratic Presidential Nomination - Next US president

This is good day for all Americans even all peoples around the globe. Yes! Sen. Barack Obama claimed the Democratic nomination for president in a speech in Minnesota tonight -- an historic achievement that for the first time will place an African American at the top of a major political party's ticket. Here is the short biography of Mr.ObamaBorn to a Kenyan father and a white American mother, he spent most of his childhood and adolescent years in Honolulu, Hawaii. At age six, he moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, where he lived with his mother and Indonesian stepfather for four years. A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, Obama worked as a community organizer, university professor, political activist, and lawyer before serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for U.S. Senate in January 2003. Obama Clinches the Democratic Party's Nomination

After six long months the crowning is officially here. Barack Obama has made history as the first African-American to have a major parties nomination for President of the United States. This is a great moment in history and I'm not here to diminish that. As an African-American I am extremely proud of what I'm witnessing, but can't help but feel he isn't the strongest candidate for the party. Lets look forward now to the general election. The Democratic Endgame
    2008-06-03 18:58:00
Reuters: Jimmy Carter set to endorse ObamaCNN: Clinton says she’s open to VPAP: Clinton to concede delegate raceReuters: Obama poised to claim victoryIt appears that the final Democratic nomination endgame may be seen after tonight. The fate of one Obama is certain, while the future of the other Democratic candidate is much less clear. The future of HillaryIt is unlikely Clinton will withdraw either today or tomorrow without having Obama and the Democratic National Committee answer some questions, some of which include:- Her place in the Obama administration- Her political future- Her campaign debtLet’s start with that last one. Clinton has about $20 million dollars in debt, some $11 million of which is her own money that she lent to her own campaign. What are her options for raising $20 million after her campaign has effectively ended? The easiest practice might be to pay back her creditors slowly in small payments. However, this would likely lose Clinton some credibility. One stra

    Democratic weekend hijinx
    2008-06-02 10:11:00
Big weekend for the Democratic primaries. On Saturday, the Michigan/Florida dispute was FINALLY decided on as the DNC ruled to sit the full delegations of both states at the Convention, but halving each delegate's vote. As this was the established punishment for the offense (do I really have to remind you what the two states did?) this was a suitable response. In fact, legally, it's what the DNC had to do, according to their rules. But all delegates will be seated and that's a good thing, so let's move on.Florida, as expected, allowed the election results to stand as they were voted upon in January. As both candidates were on the ballot, neither had a strong argument against the matter, and there you go. Of course, the Clinton campaign wanted full votes for all delegates, but hey, desperate people want unobtainable goals. If you need further evidence, take a look at the Michigan debate. As the Michigan primary did not have Obama on the ballot, it would seem unfair to give no dele

Democratic candidates gain support abroad: Obama in Afghanistan, Hillary in Somalia
    2008-04-19 04:50:00
Kabul, 18 April (AKI) - (by Syed Saleem Shahzad) - US presidential candidate Barack Obama has generated broad support in Afghanistan, while Somalis would prefer to work with his Democratic rival Senator Hillary Clinton. These are the findings of a survey conducted by the international think-tank, The Senlis Council, in Afghanistan and Somalia in March and April. According to the think-tank, the results of this year's US presidential elections are "critical to both countries," as they are both "strongly affected by US policy". When asked which of the presidential candidates they would back, 69 percent of those questioned in Afghanistan favoured Obama, while 26 percent were in favour of Clinton. In Somalia, 47 percent of civilians surveyed supported Clinton, while 44 percent backed Obama.

Observations on Tax Talk from Democratic Debate
    2008-04-15 23:00:00
Some observations on how taxes were discussed in tonight's high profile Democratic debate: Best comment of the night on tax policy: Obama refuting Hillary Clinton regarding the payroll tax cap. Clinton used rhetoric that it would hit firefighters and educators. Obama essentially asked how many firefighters and teachers make over $102,000 ($97,500 in 2007)? He also pointed out to Clinton that the Social Security reform done in the 1980s actually raised the retirement age and raised taxes, the latter which Clinton had criticized Obama for.Worst comments: Obama and Clinton endorsing a windfall profits tax on oil companies. If the oil companies are truly "gouging" as they also suggested, then that's illegal and the FTC should investigate. But that's been done. And even if the oil companies were artificially restricting supply (i.e. market manipulation), the end result would be in the same direction as a carbon tax or cap-and-trade

The Four Options for the Democratic Nomination and the Best Plan Going Forward
    2008-04-02 17:36:07
There are essentially four options left for the Democratic nomination. They depend upon three factors: who wins Pennsylvania, who wins Indiana, and whether Florida or Michigan get revotes. The possibilities1.Clinton wins Pennsylvania, Indiana and Florida and Michigan get revotes.Outcome: Clinton wins2. Clinton wins Pennsylvania, Indiana and Florida and Michigan do NOT get revotes.Outcome: Clinton will win after a fight3. Clinton wins Pennsylvania, Obama wins Indiana.Outcome: Obama will win after a fight4. Obama wins Pennsylvania, Indiana.Outcome: The race is over. Obama wins nominationThe best plan moving forwardThere is one plan, which DNC chairman Dean has already proposed, which makes perfect sense no matter which way any vote goes: superdelegates must endorse by June 4. This will save time, money, and energy, and could save Democrats the election. The one thing I would add is this: new elections in Florida and Michigan are not necessary. They understood the rules when they voted to

The Math of the Democratic Delegates
    2008-03-15 20:13:15
Cross posted with PoliticalGrind.comSo it’s come down to this: an all out fight between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination. Let’s take a quick look at the current numbers:Obama: 1402 pledged (non-super) delegatesClinton: 1240 pledged (non-super) delegatesKeep in mind, 2025 delegates are needed to win. And how many non-super delegates are left to win? 566. That means it is mathematically impossible for either candidate to win without the support of the super delegates, unless Florida and Michigan get revotes. And even then, it’s pretty unlikely that either candidate would receive enough votes; races between Clinton and Obama have been close.Ouch. That’s painful. So how many superdelegates are there? 795. That’s really not a lot. Every vote, quite literally, will count.

Michigan Democratic Party Says Yes to Election Redo
    2008-03-05 18:41:37
Wednesday evening, Democratic officials in Michigan indicated that they were open to a new primary or caucus in order to get their delegates seated at the convention. There was no mention of what kind of election it would be but this time the election would be valid. Howard Dean told National Public Radio this Wednesday afternoon, that a redo of their election would likely be the only way their delegates would be seated. Dean took a hard line with Michigan and Florida saying they broke the rules of the party and they should not get to decide the winner of this nomination. Dean said, a situation where Michigan or Florida got to decide the election based on their previous elections, would divide the party. Over the weekend, Governor Charlie Crist of Florida indicated that he would support a redo of their primary. Howard Dean speculated that redo's of both Michigan and Florida would have to happen sometime in May or June. The Democratic National Convention is not until August and Dean

Florida Gov. Supports New Democratic Primary, Michigan Gov. Does Not
    2008-03-02 23:22:07
Florida Governor Crist said that he would be open to a “redo” of his state’s Democratic primary. Michigan’s Governor has not been so generous. The Democratic Party stripped Michigan and Florida of their delegates for moving their primary before February 5th in violation of party rules. Governor Jennifer Granholm of Michigan said in February that, “The DNC created this problem by the sanctions they used and unfairly applied. The DNC has to fix this problem.” As both a Democrat and a resident of Michigan, I have to say she could not be more wrong. Moving the primary ahead to January 15th brought Republicans and Democrats together in Lansing in ways they would not previously. Lawmakers, including Granholm, knew the rules going into the move and what the repercussions would be, this is not the Democratic National Committee’s problem. Florida was the first state to move their primary and the DNC stripped them of their delegates following that decision.

    Democratic Debate Potpourri
    2008-02-27 00:19:06
A sampling of reaction to tonight's Democratic debate in Ohio:Chuck Todd:The entire debate had a very tense feel--a combination of two very competitive Democratic candidates and two very tough questioners. Both candidates were put on the spot and survived. Overall, it's hard to see this debate as changing the trajectory of this race. It was a contentious debate, but civil and both will probably be better nominees for it.It's hard to pick a winner--Clinton was more prepared but Obama survived and that's probably the name of the game for him at this late date in the campaign.Chris Cillizza:Neither candidate scored a knockout or even a knockdown. That's probably good news for Obama, who came into the debate on a roll and simply wanted to make it through the night without breaking that momentum.Clinton dominated much of the debate--for good or bad. She repeatedly sought to take the fight to Obama over his campaign tactics, his commitment to universal health care, his alleged naivete on for

MSNBC Nevada Democratic Debate (January 15, 2008)
    2008-01-16 23:40:31
On Tuesday, January 15, 2008, the top 3 Democratic candidates debated the issues in Nevada on MSNBC. Dennis Kucinich was not allowed to participate by MSNBC and that ruling was upheld when it was challenged in court. A judge in a lower court had threatened to block the MSNBC broadcast if Kucinich was not allowed to participate but the Nevada Supreme Court reversed that decision 1 hour before the debate went on air. The debate went on without Kucinich and the tone was friendly throughout the debate. Tim Russert, Natalie Morales, and Brian Williams were the moderators of the round-table style debate. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were asked about the issue of race and the battle that emerged between the two parties over the past week. The candidates stayed true to their word and honored the truce on the issue. “I think that what’s most important is that Senator Obama and I agree completely that neither race nor gender should be a part of this campaign,” Senator Clinton said when asked how things had gotten to where they are now. Obama stated that he agreed with what Senator Clinton said and that he believed all the candidates sitting there believe in racial equality. Brian Williams asked Obama what I thought was an important question during Tuesdays debate. Obama was asked about the false rumors that have been going around on the internet that he is a Muslim, that he was raised a Muslim, and that he does not pledge allegiance to our flag because of his beliefs. Obama said that he was a Christian and that he was sworn in with a Bible, not the Koran. Obama also said that the voters are smart enough to distinguish between the lies and the truth when it comes to these rumors. These emails have been going around for months and are still circulating across the country. I have been asked several times by people that do not follow politics as closely as I do, if they are in fact true. I think this is something

Democratic Love Fests - Will Hillary and Obama Kiss?

With Bill in Las Vegas stumping for Hillary, makes me wonder if Hillary has her private detective force checking on him because of all those female entertainers, strippers, dancers, hookers, etc. Wouldn’t it be a blast if he got caught with appreciating some of that beauty surrounding him? Mitt Romney Wins Michigan and Democratic Debate Coverage
    2008-01-16 00:15:22
As many of you know, Mitt Romney has won the Michigan Primary. This is a big win for fiscal conservatives; it appears that Michiganders are tired of Big Government disasters. But, this also means that there is no leading Republican candidate. If Fred Thompson wins South Carolina and Rudy wins Florida, this could get even worse. With all that being said, I also would like to point out that... Click the Headline Link to Visit Copious Dissent and Read the Full Story.

Iowa Democratic Race: Too Close to Call
    2007-12-29 00:18:39
After months of polling potential January 3rd caucus goers, we are no where closer to knowing which Democrat will win in Iowa. The latest Research 2000 poll shows John Edwards and Barack Obama are tied at 29 percent and Hillary Clinton is just behind with 28 percent of potential voters. Three candidates and only 1 percent separates the lead between them.Real Clear Politics took an average of the polls for Iowa and found that Hillary Clinton leads John Edwards by only 2 percentage points. Barack Obama was in third place just .3 percent behind Edwards. One thing is consistent and clear in Iowa, no one knows who will win. The experts don’t know, the political scientists have no idea, and the media doesn’t have a clue. 2004 Howard Dean was supposed to win it all. The media and all the experts picked him to come out on top in Iowa. Dean finished third. Iowa voters usually wait until the last minute to decide who to vote for and turnout is lackluster. Iowa is also a state known for strong participation in politics yet only 6 to 7 percent of the people actually show up to vote, according to TIME Magazine. Iowa Democrats are also hard to predict because of the fact that the candidates who fail to get 15 percent of the vote are said to be “nonviable”. The caucus goers who selected that candidate can try to get more people in their group or they can break off and join another candidate. After each candidate has at least 15 percent of the votes they use a formula based on their percentage to determine how many delegates they get from that precinct. On the Republican side in Iowa things are a little more predictable. Mike Huckabee currently leads Mitt Romney by 7 points in the Research 2000 poll and by 5.7 points in the Real Clear Politics average. The Republicans in Iowa have a much simpler way of voting compared to Democrats. The candidate that gets the majority of the vote in the precinct gets all of the votes for that precinct. The Republican race

Des Moines Register Democratic Debate from Iowa (YouTube Videos) December 13, 2007
    2007-12-21 04:11:25
December 13, 2007 the Des Moines Register and Iowa Public Television hosted the second day of presidential primary debates in Iowa. This time the Democrats faced off for Carolyn Washburn who moderated the debate. The debate was shown on the Fox News channel. The best part of this series of debates was that Fox News put the live dial group’s opinions to what the candidates were saying in the upper right hand corner. Being able to see how the dial group was reacting to what the candidates were saying was very interesting. Mike Gravel again was not present but the newest candidate to be excluded was Dennis Kucinich. The reason Dennis was excluded was not because of his low poll numbers but because his Iowa field director works from his home and did not meet the requirements of a full-time paid staff in Iowa. With the Iowa caucuses just 3 weeks away the candidates had one last chance to debate the issues before the people of Iowa went to vote. The candidates dec

Edwards Now Leads in Three Way Democratic Shuffle
    2007-12-19 14:10:41
John Edwards stands with Mari Culver after receiving her endorsement. Her husband Gov. Chet Culver of Iowa has stayed neutral. Photo by: John Edwards Flickr Edwards, Clinton and Obama are locked in a three way race in an unpredictable state. According to a new poll that measures likely caucus goers, John Edwards has jumped out ahead of Obama and Clinton. The newest InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion poll shows John Edwards has 30 percent of likely voters, Clinton 26 percent, and Barack Obama has 24 percent. Iowa is a state that is extremely hard to poll because of their caucus voting format. Only those that show up at the right time in the right place may vote. This is a very difficult group to poll especially because they wait until the last minute to decide on a candidate. The close three way race leaves room for any of these candidates to finish first or third in Iowa. Edwards holds a few advantages over the other candidates in Iowa. Edwards holds

    Questions for Tonight's Democratic Debate
    2007-11-15 00:00:00
Tonight's Democratic debate in Las Vegas will undoubtedly bring up the issue of the war in Iraq, but tax policy issues, especially what to do about the Bush tax cuts, have come up in previous debates as well. Here are some questions on fiscal policy that we would like to see asked of the candidates.(1) Most of you favor making the tax system more progressive and your first instinct to accomplishing this is to raise marginal tax rates. And most of you, especially Senator Obama, have claimed that special interests have too much influence in tax policy. Why not do what many public finance experts on both the left and right advise, which is to raise revenue and make the tax system more progressive in a way that limits the special provisions in the tax code that tend to flow to higher-income Americans. This would include the mortgage interest deduction, the deduction for state and local taxes, the municipal bond interest exemption, and the exemp

An Open Letter to Waring Howe, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman

(change your name obviously)Dear Mr. Howe,I'd like you to reconsider your rejection of the Colbert Campaign. You are missing a huge opportunity that is unlikely to come again unless we vote in another president as unpopular as the current president.By denying Colbert even the chance to run, you are effectively throwing away the youth vote. By allowing Colbert to be on ballot, the percentage of young voters would increase beyond what it has been for years. This has been proven through the '1 Million Strong for Stephen T. Colbert' Facebook group, which, at the time of this writing, has over 1.3 million members. Yes, 1.3 million members.Second, you are denying South Carolina the chance to be a powerful primary state. A Colbert campaign in the state would bring unprecedented media coverage. Not only the media, but a

CNN YouTube Democratic Debate: Big Government at its Worst
    2007-07-24 07:01:00
The CNN YouTube Democratic Debate was the typical liberal panderfest. It also oozed with total support for big government. While I could easily write a book about the absurdity that took place, this editorial may seem more like a stream of consciousness. For the first time, we really saw who the Democrats are. Anderson Cooper, in my opinion, did an excellent job forcing the liberal Democrats to expose their true intentions. He made sure that all the questions were answered and I commend him for that. Let us take some time to examine some of what was said. When asked whether any of the politicians would work for minimum wage, all the politicians said they would but Senator Dodd. So, if that is the case, maybe we do not need a minimum wage after all. This was pandering at its worst.Earlier in the “debate,” John Edwards, with Stalinist zeal, advocated taking the power away from corporations through the use of government force. The scary thing is that the audience applauded. Tha

Charleston debate breaking new ground CHARLESTON -- It's likely the biggest thing to come to The Citadel’s McAlister Field House since air conditioning was installed in the fabled gymnasium in the mid-1990s. Tonight the eight Democratic candidates for president will converge on the campus off Moultrie Street for what one CNN executive described as the Internet's "first seat at the table in terms of determining who the next president of the United States might be.” In all, some 2,700 tickets have been distributed for tonight's debate, the live broadcast of which begins at 7 p.m. That's more than three times as many as were distributed for the Democratic debate three months ago at S.C. State University in Orangeburg. As has been highly publicized, rather than simply answer questions posed by moderator Anderson Cooper, the candidates will respond to questions submitted by video via YouTube. By Sunday nearly 2,000 videos were submitted. Of those, only about 30 w

Leading Democratic Candidates for US President Side-Stepping Comments on the Film 'SICKO'

Who will save the Democratic Party?
    2007-06-21 11:59:00
Out of the 8 candidates for President on the Democratic Side, only 1 of them seems qualified enough or likable enough to be elected President.WHY 7 OF THE 8 OF THE CANDIDATES CANNOT BE ELECTEDHillary Clinton: Half the country hates her. No really, 51% of the population find her "unfavourable," and that's why she will never be elected.Barack Obama: He has 2 years of Senate experience. Yeah, that's it. In a time of war 2 years isn't enough. We might as well elect Paris Hilton.Joe Biden: He has more than enough experience, but is too unlikeable to be elected President.Chris Dodd: Have you seen this guys voting record? He's one of the biggest liars in the Senate.John Edwards: Very likable, although he seems out of touch with the average American. ($400!!! Haircut)Mike Gravel: He's 77 and has been out of politics for decades. Extremely entertaining and certainly likable, but look again.Dennis Kucinich: He simply seems too much of a congressman to be a President. He, although smart, lacks the leadership aura we need.WHO HAS A CHANCE?The one who I think has potential is Bill Richardson, the Governor of New Mexico. Although this man is smart, friendly and has leadership qualities, he needs to plan his moves wisely to be elected.Another person who is smart and likable enough to be elected president narrowly lost the 2000 election. Yes, Al Gore has potential to be elected, but if he doesn't get in the field soon he will never take the Oath of Office.

Growing frustration with the performance of the Democratic Congress over the Iraq war
    2007-06-07 15:49:00
Dissatisfaction with the Democrat's over the failure to stand up against the Iraq war is staring to show in the polls, and the media. Source: The washington post"Disapproval of Bush's performance in office remains high, but the poll highlighted growing disapproval of the new Democratic majority in Congress. Just 39 percent said they approve of the job Congress is doing, down from 44 percent in April, when the new Congress was about 100 days into its term. More significant, approval of congressional Democrats dropped 10 percentage points over that same period, from 54 percent to 44 percent."

If you haven't read it yet, check out our analysis of last night's Democratic debate in New Hampshire. Now, let's take a look at the reactions from politicos and bloggers across the web.David Yepsen from the Des Moines Register:John Edwards, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were the winners of Sunday night’s debate among Democratic presidential candidates in New Hampshire. Edwards probably did himself the most good. That’s because national polls show him running in third place behind the other two so any time he scores well in a national debate with them, he’s in a position to gain more than Clinton or Obama who lead those polls.CNN.com:Although there was no consensus on the winner of Sunday night's Democratic presidential debate, CNN analysts were largely impressed with Sen. Joe Biden and disappointed with Gov. Bill Richardson.Biden was "on fire," Democratic strategist and CNN contributor Donna Brazile said. Brazile said Biden's answers set him apart from the other seven.Cr

Frontrunners Excel In Second Democratic Debate
    2007-06-04 20:13:00
A mere glance at the position of the candidates on stage would reveal the clear the focus on the second Democratic debate that took place Sunday night in New Hampshire. The debate centered on the strong performances of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards, with the second and third tier candidates struggling to make an impact. All three gave impressive performances, but we're inclined to give our nod to John Edwards (ever so slightly) over the other top tier candidates. Running third nationally in what is shaping up to be a three horse race, Edwards should be pleased with his performance. He managed to accomplish what he set out to do in the first debate--show voters the distinctions between the top candidates. The former North Carolina senator was involved in one of the night's earliest and most memorable exchanges, criticizing his two chief rivals for their actions regarding the funding of the Iraq War. He complimented Clinton and Obama for eventually making the right vot

    Second Democratic Debate
    2007-06-04 15:26:42
I'm calling Hillary the winner in the traditional debating team sort of way. Obama comes in as first runner up.Boiling it down from CNN:Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, an early and outspoken opponent of the invasion who mounted an anti-war campaign in 2004, said the way to end the war was to cut off funding."The money's in the pipeline right now, enough to bring the troops home," he said. "Let's end the war, and let's make this a productive evening."But Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Delaware, said opponents of the war need to realize Democrats do not have the 67 votes needed to override a veto and force an end to the war."As long as there is a single troop in Iraq that I know if I take action by funding them, I increase the prospect they will live or not be injured, I cannot and will not vote no to fund them," said Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.Former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, who served in the Senate during the Vietnam War, said anyone who voted to authorize

Most of you seem to want the job just to show someone up or prove something to yourself, but are any of you honestly qualified to be President in any way, shape, or form? The three Democratic front runners have a sum total of just over three terms in Congress to their names. Only Hillary is in her second term and that so far has been mostly campaigning which is better than Obama who is spending his entire FIRST term on the trail and not representing his state.I am trying to learn your positions, but so far that has been impossible. Democratic Debate in Charleston SC
    2007-05-17 16:51:00
Democrats to Hold Presidential Debate in Charleston in July CHARLESTON -- Haven’t caught presidential debate fever yet? You’ll get your chance this summer when Charleston hosts a nationally televised debate among the Democratic candidates vying for the White House. The sparing session is scheduled for July 23 and will be broadcast live on CNN. The debate, which is being cosponsored by the region’s newest major corporate citizen, Google, is the first such event being held in the port city in modern memory. It will also be the first debate to be hosted on Google’s YouTube. On Tuesday, Columbia played host to a Fox News debate featuring the Republican candidates for president, and two weeks ago, the full Democratic field came together for their first-in-the-South debate in Orangeburg. Although a venue has yet to be chosen for the event, political insiders said Tuesday morning, they believe the most likely location is the Galliard Municipal Auditorium. What&rsq
