Democrats Cave, may Allow a Vote on Offshore Drilling
    2008-07-20 19:43:04
Last week President Bush called the Democrat’s bluff and lifted the executive ban on offshore oil drilling. This put Democrats on the defensive and they have been trying to come up with their own plan that does not authorise an increase in oil drilling.  They have failed. The president has played his hand perfectly and [...]

    2008-07-17 09:36:45
WASHINGTON (AP) - Seeking to blunt GOP efforts to permit oil exploration off Atlantic and Pacific coasts, House Democrats are pushing legislation they say would spur oil drilling on already available lands in Alaska, the West and the western Gulf of Mexico. Republicans scoffed that the so-called Drill Act - imposing a tougher “use it or [...]

New Hampshire Democrats End Straight Ticket Voting

New Hampshire is a state that has had straight ticket voting for as long as I have been voting. I don’t know how long the practice has gone on. You simply check the box at the top of the ballot for the party you want to vote for and you are done.  In New Hampshire [...]

Their Blatant Hypocrisy - And The Democrats’ Constituents Buy It?

After US Democrats passed legislation to sue OPEC for not producing enough oil, the leading oil producing nations responded by telling Democrats they better develop their own reserves.OPEC also threatened to not sell oil to the US if the Democrats go ahead with their ridiculous plan to sue the Organization of the Oil Producing Countries for not producing enough oil. Democrats and the Bill of Rights
    2008-06-30 22:11:15
The reaction by liberals to last week’s Supreme Court ruling that Americans have the right to keep and bear arms has had me thinking about where they stand when it comes to the constitution. To me the Supreme Court ruling was a no-brainer: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free [...]

    FISA and The Democrats
    2008-06-22 18:47:02
The topic below was originally posted on my blog, the Intrepid Liberal Journal.I am a loyal and committed Democrat. However, my first loyalty is to our Constitution. Unquestionably, the Democratic Party's capitulation to the Bush Administration with respect to the FISA protocol is a disgrace. My favorite Democrat, Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold issued the following statement about it on June 19th:“The proposed FISA deal is not a compromise; it is a capitulation. The House and Senate should not be taking up this bill, which effectively guarantees immunity for telecom companies alleged to have participated in the President’s illegal program, and which fails to protect the privacy of law-abiding Americans at home. Allowing courts to review the question of immunity is meaningless when the same legislation essentially requires the court to grant immunity. And under this bill, the government can still sweep up and keep the international communications of innocent Americans in the U.S. w

Democrats want to Nationalize the Oil Companies

    Do Democrats Like Peace? [Digg]
    2008-06-18 16:36:19
Do Democrats like peace? Well, most elected Democrats won't risk much for it. And neither will most American citizens. But most people who identify themselves as Democrats (as well as those who identify themselves as individuals but often vote for Democrats) would prefer peace to war.

Progressive Democrats: is their rudeness inevitable? (or is it just when I'm around?)
    2008-06-17 12:45:12
Last Friday I went to a very nice event at the Northampton Senior Center which was a fundraiser for the Franklin/Hampshire Health Care Coalition. Charlie King and Karen Brandow were performing, and I always enjoy hearing them, but the real reason I went is that Single Payer Health Care activist George Markham was being honored for his life-long commitment to the movement. George and his wife Arky are in their 90's now, and they are two people I admire very much. I'd love to think I can keep going for that long!Charlie and Karen performed for a bit and then Diana Stein from the Amherst League of Women Voters took the microphone and began speaking about George in preparation for giving him a a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives. At that very moment, two people came in with flyers and, starting from the rear rows, began handing out the flyers for people to pass down the line. It was incredibly distracting and I said to the person at the end of my line, "Grab that

In a preview of a message we will probably see down the line, the RNC using the words of former Democratic rivals against Barack Obama in one video, "Democrats vs. Obama." The most damning comments come from Hillary Clinton, who in March touted her own experience and that of John McCain, while questioning Obama's readiness. The RNC also hits Obama's experience, suggesting he has limited job experience and few accomplishments. "Does Barack Obama's thin resume prepare him to hold the most powerful office in the world?" It's another message you can expect to hear more of as the general election moves forward.Senate Watch: ColoradoThe NRSC has released a new web video that essentially sums up its case in Colorado in a four word phrase: "Boulder libe

    Democrats' Demographics: A Convention Preview
    2008-05-18 22:22:00
Super Tuesday Part V takes place on May 20, when Kentucky and Oregon have their say at the polls. These two states are similar to North Carolina and Indiana in that Oregon is considered Obama territory while Kentucky is considered Clinton's turf. The most likely result will be a split decision in which Obama beats Clinton in Oregon by a fairly comfortable margin while Clinton beats Obama in Kentucky by a landslide.Given that the results of these primaries are essentially foregone conclusions, what's the news value of these contests? There are two major questions that political observers are waiting to be answered: 1) What is the impact of John Edwards' endorsement, and 2) Will Obama's support among Whites continue to send warning signs to superdelegates?John Edwards placed his credibility on the line by endorsing Barack Obama last week. As one of the remaining heavyweights who had yet to endorse, Edwards' endorsement was big political news. And this endorsement essentially steppe

When Will it End…? Are Some Democrats Getting Tired and Bitter?
    2008-04-25 01:04:31
Democrats in Iowa first started caucusing on January 3rd and after nearly 5 months of elections the race is still not over. How many times have we heard pundits argue that the race would be over after super Tuesday, mini-super Tuesday, or Pennsylvania? Barack Obama spoke in Springfield, Illinois on February 10, 2007 to officially announce his candidacy for president. Hillary Clinton gave her living room “I’m in” speech on January 22, 2007. Nearly a year and a half after this race began, Democrats are becoming agitated and worried. Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, appeared on CNN with Wolf Blitzer and told the remaining undecided superdelegates to make up their mind “starting now”. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are working hard to prevent what would easily be described as a meltdown in the works. Democratic leaders and members of the party are worried that the longer this race goes on

    The Dividing Democrats
    2008-04-21 18:34:47
One of the hot topics for the political season is how the Democrats are risking an irreconcilable division as a result of the negative campaigning. There are many who feel the tone of the campaign is going to leave the Democratic party unable to unite for the General Election. These are probably the same people who said that Republicans would not get behind John McCain and the party would be left divided. All the talk we are now hearing about a divided Democratic party is the same talk that we heard about the Republican party. The truth is that emotions were running high then and they are running high now. Several months ago there were Republicans saying they would never vote for McCain, now we hear none of that talk.  Now we are hearing about how Obama and Clinton supporters won't vote for the other candidate if their candidate loses, and several months after there is a nominee we will hear none of it. All of this is nothing more than a perfect

    Calling the Democrats' Bluff
    2008-03-28 09:41:00
Gallup has recently released a poll that sheds light on the extent to which the ongoing fight between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has damaged the Democratic party. According to the poll, 28% of Clinton supporters would back McCain over Obama in the general election while 19% of Obama supporters would back McCain over Clinton. These findings suggest that both Clinton and Obama have rendered each other unacceptable to a significant amount of each other's supporters. The idea that 1 in 5 Obama supporters or 1 in 4 Clinton supporters would back McCain over their own party nominee should give all Democrats pause. However, while Gallup's findings may make for good fodder for the punditry, I believe it would be prudent to take a step back and view this poll with a bit more skepticism. Democrats may be angry and polarized, but they are not so rash as to completely undermine the issues important to them. Instead of a true warning sign, this poll gives angry Democrats the opportunity to vent

Good Reads: Long Road Ahead For Democrats
    2008-03-26 15:39:18
David Brooks: The Long DefeatHillary Clinton may not realize it yet, but she’s just endured one of the worst weeks of her campaign.First, Barack Obama weathered the Reverend Jeremiah Wright affair without serious damage to his nomination prospects. Obama still holds a tiny lead among Democrats nationally in the Gallup tracking poll, just as he did before this whole affair blew up. Second, Obama’s lawyers successfully prevented re-votes in Florida and Michigan. That means it would be virtually impossible for Clinton to take a lead in either elected delegates or total primary votes. Third, as Noam Scheiber of The New Republic has reported, most superdelegates have accepted Nancy Pelosi’s judgment that the winner of the elected delegates should get the nomination. Instead of lining up behind Clinton, they’re drifting away. Her lead among them has shrunk by about 60 in the past month, according to Avi Zenilman of Politico.com.In short, Hillary Clinton’s presidential prospects con

    Democrats Battle at Own Peril
    2008-03-21 00:37:08
Real Clear Politics is beginning to show what could be a trend in this presidential campaign. As Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton continue to battle it out for the nomination John McCain grows stronger. National head-to-head polls now show John McCain leading both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Previously, both Senator Obama and Clinton were leading McCain in most head-to-head polls. Real Clear Politics averages for polls conducted between March 13 and March 19, show McCain beating Clinton by 1.3 percent. The same polling average also showed Obama trailed McCain by 1.4 percent. McCain is now the official Republican nominee and is not facing the same daily campaign battles that Clinton and Obama are. McCain recently took the time to visit Iraq which just this week reached the 5 year anniversary of the U.S. led invasion. McCain is of course taking attacks from Democrats now that he is the Republican candidate, but with no clear Democratic nominee, there is no one

Turmoil Plagues Democrats: Then And Now
    2008-03-20 11:39:00
Christopher G. Adamo has an interesting article today on the GOPUSA.com website titled, "Democrat Turmoil Reflects Liberal Dysfunction." It's considerably more in depth than my article (Catch-22) from a short while back. But he essentially says the same thing. Democrats are in trouble. My article basically narrowed down what many people have been noticing happening over the years to the Democratic party. A deep shift in the core values that Democrats once stood for no longer exist, or barely exist. Adamo's article deals more with the current plights facing Democrats. Those being mainly the rifts caused by the dual minority candidates. Both of which have serious problems of their own.Obama has not only a race issue to deal with, but a wife who's comments are almost as equally un-American as Obama's pastor Rev. Wright. Hillary on the other hand, has the now popular "instant water works" that showed little in the way of strength that may/will be required as a President. And between them, t

Obama wins Mississippi primary, new race row rocks Democrats

Obama wins Mississippi primary, new race row rocks Democrats BILOXI: Barack Obama on Tuesday surged to victory in Mississippi's Democratic primary (Watch) , in a new triumph over Hillary Clinton, as a fierce new race row rocked their bitter White House race. The Illinois senator punched back with his second win in a row since the former first lady pulled her campaign back from the brink of extinction, with huge victories in Texas and Ohio last week. As Mississippi voted, the tone of the race took another nasty lurch, as the Obama camp demanded the dismissal of Clinton's supporter Geraldine Ferraro, for saying: "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position." With its 33 nominating delegates up for grabs, conservative Mississippi, reliably Republican in general elections, was the last showdown in the Democratic race before the huge Pennsylvania primary on April 22. Television exit polls handed Obama the victory within minutes of polls closing in the state, and showed a lar

Democrats : popular vote may now be key
    2008-03-09 17:10:00
Hillary Clinton's victories in Ohio and Texas last Tuesday may have done little to reduce Barack Obama's lead in the pledged delegate count (she enjoyed a net gain of just 10 delegates on the night according to the latest figures from Realclearpolitics) but the margin of her victory in the popular vote, which she won by 330,000 votes across the two states , raises an intriguing possibility : that come the end of the primary season in June, Democrats could face a situation where Barack Obama has more pledged delegates yet Hillary Clinton has an overall lead in the popular vote.According to the rules, the Democratic nomination is awarded to the candidate who amasses most delegates - that is, a sum of both pledged delegates (awarded according to the results of primaries and caucuses) and super delegates (senior party officials who are free to vote whichever way they choose). However so far this primary campaign, the Obama camp, aware from the start that Senator Clinton would likely hold a

    McCain Embraces Bush, Democrats Rejoice?
    2008-03-05 14:54:53
John McCain visited the White House today to receive the endorsement of President Bush. It does not push McCain to the nomination--the Arizona Senator wrapped that up on his own, finally dispatching the pesky Mike Huckabee with wins in Ohio and Texas yesterday. Nor was it particularly surprising--the Republican president was certainly going to give the blessing to his apparent heir. The event was monumental nonetheless. His appearance with Bush today, months after his campaign was declared dead and eight years after his bitter primary battle with the then-Texas Governor ended in stinging defeat, caps a roller coaster ride for John McCain. In 2000, it was clear the two men shared distaste for one another, culminating with Bush's primary win in South Carolina. Rumors of dirty politics and a smear campaign left McCain resentful. McCain only begrudgingly endorsed Bush after conceding that race and was a thorn in his side for much of his presidency. After flirting with the possibility

Bush renews demands for telecom immunity as Democrats seek compromise on spy bill
    2008-03-02 23:05:25
US President George Bush used a Thursday White House press conference to issue a belligerent demand that Congress pass a bill effectively gutting Constitutional protections against government spying while granting immunity to telecommunications companies that helped the administration break the law.The bullying tone of the president, who repeatedly banged the podium while warning of supposed imminent dangers posed by the Congressional delay in renewing the administration’s unfettered power to conduct domestic wiretapping, stood in sharp contradiction with the overwhelming popular hostility towards Bush, whose standing in the polls has fallen to record lows. Despite his deepening political isolation, the Republican president is justifiably confident that the Democratic majority in Congress will ultimately bow to his demands.Democrats in Congress are largely agreed on measures to permanently expand government spying and give the executive branch unfettered access to telecommunication s

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26Due to the Democrats I unfortunately used my favorite profanity, a word that deals with a barnyard substance, 4 times. We’ve had an interesting day.  Thanks to the actions of Rumsfeld and Miss Beverly Sills, I think I was able to sleep for 3 hours last night.  I had to be up early for an appointment in Alamo with the parents.  My mother has been experiencing some serious bleeding in the back of her right eye.  She was to meet with a specialist today.  The initial tests this AM indicated some macular damage to the left eye.  ...

Democrats and Racism: Keepin' Da Black Man Down
    2008-02-25 11:15:00
Oh boy is this one ever gonna get some folks seriously hot under the collar. The article, titled "Black Leader: Democratic Party Architect of Racism," written by Ronald Kessler found on NewsMax.com today outlines a few of the Democrats "highlights" in the neverending Race-card battle. The opening lines of the article alone hit below the belt of the Democratic party; "Frances Rice, chairman of the National Black Republican Association, describes the Democratic Party as the architect of modern day racism."After that, it just goes downhill from there for the image of the Democrats. Rice it turns out, is a retired Army lieutenant colonel and lawyer. So were not talking about some uneducated putz here.In the article, Rice first makes note of how "it was Republicans who pushed through much of the ground-breaking civil rights legislation in Congress." And continues on from there to mention how it's Republicans who are trying to empower blacks to help them out of poverty. While it's Democrats w

The Real Reason Congressional Democrats are Wimping out on Iraq
    2008-02-13 21:07:48
Rolling Stone writer Matt Taibbi has called Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid “one of the biggest pussies in U.S. political history.” While this may be true, I believe there is a deeper explanation for Reid’s timidity.Democrats cower in fear of being called “soft on terror/national defense/national security by Republicans. The very act of cowering is political suicide because they are confirming the Republican charges. This doesn’t make sense, because with a little effort Democrats could shove the charge of softness down the Republican’s throat. Sen. Bernie Sanders said that the reason Congress will never cut off funding for the war is that they are afraid, “George Bush would be on TV every five minutes saying that the Democrats betrayed the troops.”Let us assume that the Democrats actually cut off funding for the war, and that Bush did exactly as they feared: He went on the tube and accused them of not supporting our troops. What follows is an example of what a robust D

Super Tuesday Answers Nothing for Democrats: Both Going to Denver?
    2008-02-06 21:36:28
The early states were supposed to filter out candidates and give us our nominees. After the early states, Super Tuesday, was supposed to be the deciding factor. We go on to March 4th and the battle goes on. Barack Obama won a majority of the states in Tuesday’s contests but it looks like the delegates could be split right down the middle. Obama won Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, and Utah. Senator Clinton won her adopted home state of New York but probably not by as much as she hoped. Clinton won a big victory in California but as many as one-third of the votes had been cast weeks prior to Tuesday. Barack Obama was certainly hurt by early voting which did not reflect his recent surge and Senator Clinton did very well among women in California. Obama’s advantage with men in California was not as large as Clinton’s advantage with women in that state. New Jersey was

They had even managed to put some mileage between themselves and the poisonous public image of Slick Willie. Then it all fell apart. South Carolina Democrats Send a Strong Message to Clintons
    2008-01-26 18:57:11
Barack Obama won the South Carolina Democratic primary handily over Senator Clinton on Saturday. All of the major news outlets projected Obama the winner of the state only minutes after the polls closed in the state because the loss was so embarrassing for Clinton. A “substantial margin” according to MSNBC and the Associated Press called it a “routing”. Fox News was discussing whether or not Clinton would even be the second place finisher there. John Edwards and Clinton are now competing for the second spot in South Carolina. The Democratic voters in South Carolina sent a message to Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton and that was to STOP the kind of campaign you are running. The voters showed that they are tired of Bill Clinton’s lies and stretching of the truth to attack Obama. The voters in exit polls showed they were sick of the attacks in this campaign over the past week and those voters overwhelmingly supported Senator Obama. Obama received in the neighborhood of 80

Romney Wins Michigan, Democrats Get No National Delegates
    2008-01-16 00:37:22
Mitt Romney won his childhood state of Michigan on Tuesday night where voter turnout was extremely low. Analysts estimated that about 20 percent of the 7.14 million registered voters would vote in Tuesday’s election. In some counties, that number was closer to 15 percent. According to the Associated Press, Secretary of State Terry Lynn Land estimated that fewer than 1.5 million people voted. Hillary Clinton was the only major candidate on the Democratic ticket because Obama and Edwards pledged to not campaign in Michigan if they moved their primary before February 5th. Senator Clinton barely held off the “uncommitted” choice on the Democratic side to “win” the state. Clinton will be awarded no delegates due to the fact that the Democratic National Committee has stripped the state of their delegates for violating party rules when they moved their primary date. Even with her name being the only major name on the list for Democrats, 45 percent of Democratic voters voted against her. Mitt Romney picked up a major win in Michigan on Tuesday which many people said he needed in order to be a viable candidate. Romney finished second in both New Hampshire and Iowa, but won in Wyoming where there was little competition for it from the other candidates. Romney’s win showed that McCain did not pick up all the momentum after winning in New Hampshire and that this will be a long Republican race. 1976 was the last time that Republicans went to the convention without a clear winner from the primaries and 2008 could be the same way. On “Super Tuesday”, 21 states will go to the polls and candidates will be forced to cherry pick which states they want to spend their money and where they want to be physically. There is no candidate with enough money to campaign in each of these 21 states or enough time to visit these states in order to win them all. After February 5th, if there is no clear Republican candidate

Democrats Dominate Social Network Sites and Loose in Overall Site Traffic
    2007-12-27 00:03:53
Democrats have been more successful reining in supporters on YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, and Eventful sites than Republicans have been. Democratic candidates have more subscribers on YouTube, more event requests on Eventful, and more friends on Facebook and MySpace.Barack Obama has over 172,000 Facebook supporters, while Ron Paul, who leads all Republicans, has just over 44,700 supporters. Clinton has only 56,000 supporters and Romney has only 22,000 supporters to come in second for their respective parties. While Democratic candidates may have more subscribers on YouTube.com, Ron Paul is certainly leading in the amount of daily viewers. According to TubeMogul, RonPaul.com YouTube videos receive cumulative views of over 8.6 million per day. Barack Obama leads Democrats with over 6.4 million viewers each day. Mike Huckabee is the next closest Republican and he gets just over 3.8 million views a day and Mitt Romney is close behind him with 3.2 million. John Edwards was the second highest Democrat with just over 4 million viewers and Hillary Clinton was third with 3.6 million. When it comes to MySpace supporters Barack Obama has almost double the amount than the next closest Republican. Obama has over 202,000 supporters while Ron Paul has just over 102,000. Senator Clinton has over 152,000 supporters and John McCain, the second place Republican, has only 40,000. According to Hitwise, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul lead all other candidates in overall site traffic. Huckabee and Paul both have 23 percent of traffic among presidential candidates. Barack Obama was the next closest with 18 percent and Hillary Clinton had 11 percent. Barack Obama leads Democratic site traffic with 43 percent, Hillary Clinton had an average of 28 percent, and John Edwards had an average of 14 percent of the Democratic traffic. Is 2008 the Year Democrats Finally Realize Iraq Is An Occupation?
    2007-12-26 09:55:52
The topic below was originally posted on my blog, the Intrepid Liberal Journal, as well as the Independent Bloggers Alliance, the Peace Tree, the Out of Iraq Bloggers Caucus, the Wild Wild Left and Worldwide Sawdust. In 2007, the Democratic Party was a self-gelding machine of ineptitude. Activists such as myself worked feverishly in 2006 to retake congress and end America’s occupation of Iraq. Instead the Bush Administration implemented a “surge” as Democrats retreated from flexing their constitutional muscle. They continued to fund military operations, never invoked the War Powers Act and impeachment was taken off the table.Remarkable considering how unpopular both the Iraq occupation and President Bush had become. Cracks even appeared in the façade of GOP unity as their Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell warned the Bush Administration that congressional Republicans would not allow Iraq to harm their electoral prospects in 2008. Indeed, on June 26th the Washington Post quoted McConnell as saying,“I anticipate that we'll probably be going in a different direction in some way in Iraq. And it'll be interesting to see what the administration chooses to do."McConell was anticipating the September testimony of Army General David H. Petraues. Yet as 2007 ends there is no denying that the unpopular Bush Administration successfully thwarted both the Democratic majority and the will of the people. How did this happen? One can offer all sorts of explanations. Among them is that sixty-votes are required in the Senate and a thin Democratic majority had no real shot of making a difference. Others may prefer to scapegoat Moveon.org for their controversial “Betray Us” advertisement prior to the testimony of the highly decorated General Petraeus. Finally, some may simply contend that the surge worked and the rationale for withdrawal no longer applies.Personally, I believe Democrats never truly wanted to end our occupation in Iraq. Iraq had sapped Bush’s popular

    Tancredo's Lesson for Democrats
    2007-12-22 23:10:00
Earlier this week, Tom Tancredo officially dropped out of the presidential race. His campaign had been plagued by anemic polling, insufficient fundraising, and the inability to gain any real traction. Perhaps the biggest problem Tancredo had was that he had no real niche that wasn't already filled by another more viable candidate. In the words of CNN political analyst Bill Schneider:"I would say all of the other Republican candidates...adopted some parts of Tancredo's tough line on illegal immigration. Now, what happens when you out-Tancredo Tancredo? You don't need Tancredo anymore. And that's why he's getting out." Let's be honest. Tancredo stood no chance of winning the Republican nomination. However, his candidacy was important for one reason: He tapped into the anger stemming from illegal immigration and successfully pushed his Republican rivals further to the right on this issue. John McCain in particular learned the hard way about appearing soft on this issue. Most Republicans and some Democrats get it now. Almost all of them are talking about border security, penalties for employers that hire illegal workers, and restricting social services for those who are not in the country legally. Tough new laws at the state level are addressing the failings of the federal government on this issue. People everywhere regardless of party are incensed about this issue and right now, the Republicans are paying a lot of attention to it.However, the Democrats have remained relatively silent on this issue. And that is a big mistake. The Democrats' strategy is to let the Republicans appear so mean and dispirited towards "undocumented workers" that moderate voters and (especially) Latino voters in places like Florida, Texas, and the Southwest will penalize them at the ballot box. The Democrats seem to believe that by not demonizing and scapegoating (mostly Latino) illegal immigrants, they are cultivating a new politically loyal constituency, much like the

    The Gutless Democrats
    2007-12-21 02:28:17
They've talked about changing course. They've talked about withdrawal dates. They've even talked about ending the war, but when it came to actually doing any of these things the Democrats wimped out. The new budget was approved with funding for the Iraq war. With this funding there will be no change in course, no withdrawal dates, and no end in sight. I can't help but wonder if the Democrats actually believe what they say or are just playing politics. When questioned about why they can't bring any change in the Iraq policy, the Democrats respond by saying they need more seats in the Senate. It seems to me they are using this to help in the next election. If this isn't the case then they are afraid to cut off funding for fear of what will happen in Iraq if the war was ended. The Democrats are afraid that if they end the war and things get worse in the middle East the Republicans will gain political capital for the next election. Either way the Democrats are just playing

An American Warning - Those Damn Democrats
    2007-12-05 09:48:00
You know it occurs to me that we are really standing on the edge of the end of our great nation. Everything our founding fathers told us we needed to be, we are not. Everything they said they wanted for us, we’ve thrown away. And those who feel the same way I do haven’t spoken loud enough or pulled hard enough. It’s sad and I feel sorry for our children.   Recently the democrats had a “debate”. All were present at this debate with the exception of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson who was attending a memorial service for a Korean War soldier whose remains he brought home from North Korea in April. Wow… a Democrat with his priorities straight. Can someone mark that down for me please? While I’m on the subject, I like Bill Richardson. I don’t agree with some of views but I like the guy. He’s a traditional Democrat. Paul to Opponents: Why Do You Act Like Democrats?
    2007-11-11 23:35:09
From Ron Paul's interview with The Bulletin in Philadelphia:FF: Since the debates don't allow for direct exchanges, if you could ask your opponents a direct question, what would it be?RP: Why do you act like Democrats? You do everything the Democrats did. You're doing all the things we accuse the Democrats of doing. You're big spenders and champions of welfare programs, even though you condemned President Clinton for nation-building. And now you're losing your shirt, you lost last year, you're running up the deficit, you're in the entitlement business, you don't care about personal liberties, and you've taken up Bill Clinton's foreign policy [of nation-building]. It doesn't make any sense. Why would you do it if you know it's hurting the party?Money quote number two:I was on the House floor, and at least seven or eight members came up to me and said, "All I see are Ron Paul signs all over my district!"
