    Benefits of Dental Implants
    2008-06-16 21:42:02
If you have a missing tooth, do you realize you have two gaps? One where the tooth was and another where its root was. The visible gap tends to take precedence in some people’s minds, as being something to fix. If it’s visible when you smile or laugh, then clearly it needs to be corrected, and many people have a bridge or wear dentures. If the gap remains there, the neighboring teeth will fill it, by gradually drifting into that spot. That could cause a bad bite. When the upper and lower teeth don’t meet correctly, many unwanted consequences will flow, such as premature wear on the teeth, strain in the jaw muscles, tooth grinding, and headaches. So it’s important to fill that gap left by the missing tooth. It’s equally important to fill the gap in the jawbone left by the missing root. It doesn’t immediately impair your smile or your bite. But gradually it will impair your entire face. The bone tissue will shrink to fill the gap " something called bone resorption. That w

After a visit to the Dentist which is always long overdue in any case, we promise ourselves to be more particular in future but once we get busy in our daily activities we forget about it all over again.Due to this careless attitude, we ruin a few teeth. But thanks to our Dental Surgeons and technology, they have devised ways to cure and fix our teeth and restore our smiles. Dental Implants are a blessing in disguise where missing tooth/teeth are replaced so perfectly that no one can ever make out the difference. The Dental Plan Part 2.
    2008-04-23 01:28:04
It was time to make my move. I knew it wouldn't be easy. There were powerful forces arrayed against me. But the Tooth Fairy Ninja knows no fear! (Unless I get caught. Then I'll be whining like a baby, but that only seems reasonable.)For those of you who haven't read my previous blog entry, this all may seem like the ravings of a lunatic. So I highly recommend that you go there, and read The Dental Plan Part 1. first. It's always a pleasure to confirm the accuracy of your first impressions.Anyway,Having inadvertently gone to bed before delivering the "package" under the pillow of my daughter (Let's call her the Dragon Girl, it makes it more fun.) The Dental Plan
    2008-04-21 11:02:19
I was sitting at my computer last night, busily going through the eReams of on-line periodicals I peruse every night. I had just started an in-depth scan of the 'Weekly World Standard' website.I'd made a vow to bring you, my readers, the latest news and information, and as a part of that sacred trust, I was intently studying an important photograph of potentially Galactic Significance, when my wife came up behind me."Don, don't forget that Lucy needs a visit from the 'tooth fairy' tonight" She showed me an envelope covered in childish scrawl. Then she glanced at the computer screen."Oh God! Get that thing off of there before the kids see it! You are such a pervert!"What? I happen to think that a two-headed alien just might be of great interest to my fans! This is scientific research!""And the four breasts?""I...didn't notice." Nevertheless, I minimized the screen. Women just don't understand science."Now my little Chickadee, what were you saying?""I said, don't forget to slip a dollar

    Dental Health: What Is Plaque?
    2008-04-07 08:48:21
If no action is taken to maintain proper dental health care, acid will form and attack the tooth enamel, allowing tooth decay to penetrate into the softer tissue inside the tooth. If the decay is not treated in its early stages, it will progress to the tooth pulp, a soft tissue containing nerves, arteries, veins and lymph vessels. Eventually, an abscess will begin to form at the root - and unless endodontic (root canal) treatment is carried out, the tooth will be lost.Plaque must be removed daily, if not, the irritants in plaque can cause swollen, red, bleeding gums. These conditions occur when plaque hardens and forms tartar (calculus) that collects around the tooth under the gum line, causing the gum to pull away from the tooth. Pockets form between the tooth and under the gum line. Plaque and its harmful by-products move down along the tooth towards the roots. When the bone is eaten away, the tooth, with little support, will become loose and fall out. Gum disease (periodontal diseas

Patients are paying more for dental treatment than ever before and this has turned the patient from a passive receiver of dentistry to an active buyer. 2008-01-18 02:38:00
Upon first hearing about it, many people think that dental insurance is a just another fad of the insurance companies who are just about to insure everything under the sun. The Difference between Dental Plan and Dental Insurance Dental insurance is simply an agreement between the dental insurance company and you that will allocate you to get pleasure from discounts on dental expenses. Maybe you will think that dental insurance and dental plan are just one and the same, but you are wrong. There are big differences between the two. First let me tell you what a dental plan is. Types Of Supplemental Dental Insurance.
    2008-01-14 02:16:00
Not all the health insurance plans offer you included dental insurance. Usually, there is some dental insurance that comes along with the health insurance plan, but this is surely not enough to cover all your expenses for your dental needs. So, it is advisable to know how much of your costs are covered by your typical health insurance plan. In order to get a better deal, you may choose, as a viable addition, a supplemental dental insurance, in order to cover up some expenses or to lower your costs that are just partly covered by various dental plans. Be aware that your supplemental dental insurance is not meant to cover all your costs or to be used instead of your primary dental insurance plan. But you may lower some of your expenses with the dental needs that are not included in your primary dental insurance plan. In order to find what are the options to choose from here are the major categories of supplemental dental insurance plans. [ car , insurance , life ] What are dental discount plans? Dental discount plans are very interesting as they can save you some money on your dental costs. Their system works on the following base: they have a large number of members and they negotiate lower prices for those who pay them. Practically, a dental discount plan is not an insurance as you know it, but it saves you money by passing the savings on to you. The dentists that are members of the plans offer services at lower costs. So, when you must make a payment for their services, you must present your dental discount plan member card and you will need to pay only the discounted price for members. Another advantage is that dental discount plans cost little, even around $5 per person insured. Dental Plans For Students Students are a specific category of individuals that need a reliable dental plan. When they turn 18, they lose the dental insurance that is usually covered by their parents’ health insurance. For them, many colleges offer discounted student dental plan

    Dental Insurance Plans.
    2008-01-13 03:22:00
When you get a job with a company that offers dental and health insurance plans, it can very easy to only select the bare minimum coverage to prevent the deduction of too much money from your paycheck. Some people even opt not to take either insurance, or only one, to save even more money. This strategy can and will only end up costing you more money in the long run. Sign Up For Full Coverage Most companies that offer dental and health insurance plans do so after ninety days, or some other probationary period. This is to ensure that the money spent on the plans isn’t going to waste on employees that may not last. The ones who stay, however, are rewarded by the offering of benefits. Dental and health insurance plans are usually set up on a group plan, which means you get discounts and better rates as a corporation, as opposed to the rates you’d get as an individual. That’s why it’s a very good idea to sign up with whatever dental and health insurance plans your company sets in front of you. [ car , insurance , life ] When signing up with the dental and health insurance plans, sign up for the best coverage you can afford. Sure, the money is being taken out every month from your paycheck, but if you think about it the insurance plans are actually saving you money. Especially if you have children, you have to realize all the money the average person spends on health care. There are doctor’s visits, physicals, there are the times when you or your family fall ill, there are broken bones, there are toothaches, root canals, and more. All of the above could happen at any time, and you’d better be prepared for it. Good dental and health insurance plans should cover the above ailments. That means that, even with all those doctor visits and medical bills, you could end up saving thousands of dollars merely by having a little money taken out of your check each month. It may seem a shame to have that money taken out when you feel fine but you have to realize

    Various Dental Insurance Plans.
    2008-01-11 04:21:00
Shaving nicks and toothaches hurt more than they should. While a nick will vanish in a couple of days, toothache will take your pocket for a spin before it goes away. Believe me, dental care is prohibitively expensive, but still a part of necessary health care and very important. [ car , insurance , life ] Here comes dental insurance. Not much in the past it was considered a big company perk, dental insurance has today established itself as a must-have benefit. Even most small companies offer dental insurance today to recruit and retain workers. Dental coverage costs less than 10% of total medical coverage so its affordable and preventive procedures, like cleanings, ensure the overall health of employees, which means a decrease in sick time and increase in productivity. Various dental insurance plans with numerous variations are available today. You should take proper care and time to consider all options. Most expensive plans: Direct reimbursement plans These plans are the most expensive of the lot. They operate by paying for employee dental coverage from a pool of money set aside by the company for this purpose. The simplicity of this plan makes it the most effective, the reimbursement is made by a simple formula doing away with the complexity of co-payments, deductibles etc. Even though ADA strongly recommends this plan, this kind of direct dental care may not be affordable by smaller companies. Least expensive plans: Managed care plans Similar to a medical HMO, managed care dental plans need to pay for the treatment through regular co-payments and choose forma pool of dentists to get treated. These plans do various cost-control measures and can more affordable for small businesses. The co-payment amount varies according to procedure. Preventive procedures are usually performed without co-payment, however advanced procedures will bear higher co-payments. The choice lies with the company and their financial managers, however great care is recommende

Do Not Buy Individual Dental Insurance Until You Read This!
    2008-01-07 04:43:00
Individual dental insurance is exactly what it says it is, a policy that is meant to provide protection for one individual against major dental care issues. This is done mainly by providing low or no cost visits (depending on the plan) to the dentist for routine preventive care. This preventive care includes things like cleanings, x-rays and more. But what if you need to see a dentist right now for a toothache, broken tooth, dentures or other immediate need and you haven't bought your individual dental insurance plan yet? Then you're on your own. Read on. You see, insurance is only meant to protect you against an unforeseen event. This means that the purpose of buying an individual dental insurance plan would be to provide financial protection against an unforeseen illness or injury to your teeth or mouth. [ car , insurance , life ] The problem here is that insurance is not meant to pay for conditions that are already there. This means that if you already have that toothache and haven't bought your policy yet then you'll have to pay for it yourself. Think about it for a minute. Would you really expect to walk into an insurance agency with several bad teeth, buy a policy for $50-$100.00 to get it started and then immediately go to the dentist to have hundreds of dollars worth of repair work done? Do you honestly believe that any insurance company would pay for it? I can promise you that it won't happen. If you are in need of and individual dental plan, insurance is not necessarily your best option, especially if you need to be seen right away for an existing problem. Your best bet is to join what's called a "Discount Dental Plan" network. These plans, unlike insurance, will offer you big discounts on most types of dental care regardless of if it's an existing problem or not. Many of these plans offer savings as high as 60%, depending on the plan, the procedure, and where you live. The bottom line here is that individual dental insurance does not provid

The Importance Of Dental Care For Your Pet
    2007-12-04 00:48:00
We all know that brushing and flossing is a must if we want to keep all our teeth in our old age. Of course we want to take good care of our teeth and mouths because we desire pearly white teeth that are aesthetically appealing. However, we realize the importance of dental hygiene; we need to take care of our teeth so we don't succumb to disease that could have been prevented by simply brushing and flossing multiple times each day. So, what about our dogs? They have teeth too, and they need dental care just like us. Though they don't mind if their teeth aren't the perfect shade of white, they probably do care if their mouth is poorly taken care of and if they suffer later on in life as a result from lack of attention. Like humans, dogs can have plaque, cavities, gingivitis, and tartar. Though you can take your pet to the local groomer to get their teeth cleaned, you can do it at home. Here's how to take care of your pet's teeth easily and effectively. The best way to prevent periodontal disease and inflammation is by daily brushing your dog's teeth. Of course, you will want to begin slowly and entice your dog with treats and praise to encourage him or her to allow you to brush their teeth. This takes time, and effort, but it is well worth it. When you brush your dog's teeth, you will most likely want to use a finger toothbrush or a simple kid-sized toothbrush. These are gentle, yet they allow the tartar and plaque to loosen up on the teeth and be flushed out. Also, you will need to make sure you use special doggie toothpaste. You can either get this at your personal veterinary office or at your local pet supply store. When you apply the toothpaste to the toothbrush, be sure to get the paste deep into the brush; if it just sits on top it will quickly come off in your pet's mouth and be ineffective. Be sure to brush your dog's teeth at a 45-degree angle, because this helps ensure that every tooth gets properly cleaned, and this makes it more comfortable for y

I was there for teeth cleaning. The Dental Surgeon is Dr. Chan Chan Seng B.D.S. (Singapore), a graduate from National University of Singapore. His wife and daughter helped out at his clinic. After a short waiting time, I met with Dr. Chan. He did some fact finding and began his work. The process was comfortable, unlike previous occasions when I visited the National Dental Centre and school dental centres. Dr. Chan is experienced in that he pinpointed the problem very quickly and very precisely.Overall, I would rate my experience with Pan Island Dental Surgery as Excellent. 5 Star, despite the fact that it is a neighbourhood clinic.

Dental Dilemna III - Mo Money, Mo Problems
    2007-07-12 08:00:39
For those readers who were with me back in March, you know I decided to get a much delayed dental implant this year, before I go for broke and spend my loot on a backpacking trip to 6 of the 7 continents. To catch up, simply read the first two posts of this series (listed below). I had a follow-up appointment yesterday, at which point my dentist indicated I could proceed with the second stage of the implant. This step entails setting up the part of the implant to which the custom crown will be attached. I was in the dentist’s chair for about 2 hours. When I went to pay, I figured I’d have to cough up the remaining $1,500 for the crown which was being ordered. As it turns out, I believe the removal of a brace I had on an upper (opposing) molar tacked on another $1,400 in unexpected (to me) expenses. So when I was quoted $2,900 or so, on top of the $2,300 I paid after the first stage, I was not happy. After a short discussion with the receptionist, who called over my de
