| Just Desserts | | 2008-05-14 23:09:00 | | About a year ago, two events conspired to change my life. I gave up on men, and I became a professional blogger. Blogging doesn't pay much, so I find myself working three jobs and putting in ridiculous hours sitting at the computer. There's not much keeping me away from the caramels and chocolates in my desk drawer... after all, everyone's got to have a little joy in their lives! As a consequence, I have become incredibly fat. I keep telling myself "this is temporary, I can lose this weight". Sure I can, all it takes is MORE self-denial MORE sacrifice, MORE willpower. Reminds me of the old joke where the man asks the doctor how long can he expect to live. The doctor asks, "Do you eat healthy food, avoid smoking, drinking, and wild sex, go to bed at a decent time, and exercise?" When the man answers yes, the doctor says "Then why do you care?" Honestly, the main thing I need is to get out of the house (and away from the desk drawer) and get a life. It wo | | By: Miss Cellania | | |

| | Just Desserts... | | 2008-02-06 18:40:00 | | I hate to say it, but since 2 am today I've been dealing with a feverish, coughing, yacking baby. I guess those old ladies were right after all. Darn wisdom!! And I'm seriously considering filing a law suit against the manufacturers of those "I Voted" stickers. They don't work at all!Don't know what I'm talking about? | | Friday Flash...Christmas Desserts | | 2007-12-20 22:32:00 | | It seems at Christmas the small bakeries and pastisserie shops go all out to produce eye-catching and colourful desserts and treats.Much care and attention goes into producing these extravagant individual offerings. The one above has a few strawberries and cranberries sitting on a base of cream and sponge. The sponge is itself floating on a sweet caramel like sauce. The second dessert has a thin champagne coloured jelly on top.Once you dig in below the surface there emerges a trifle like mixture.Small chunks of pineapple and sponge together with a custard sauce appear on the end of your spoon.Very tempting. | | By: porcelain-monkey | | |
| | Write Back Weekend Monday "Just Desserts" | | 2007-11-12 16:20:00 | | It's so funny that this week's TITMT question was about desserts. Well, ok maybe it's not so funny, but it is mildly amusing at least. In order to understand my answer to the question, I have to rewind to the conversation I had with a friend of mine just earlier today. A few friends and I are meeting for dinner later on tonight. We were talking about how if the waiter we know is there, we can get free dessert. Only something like "free dessert" has never been all that tempting to me. This is because I'm not now, nor have I ever really been, a sweets person. Now that doesn't mean I don't have a favorite dessert or two, I'm just saying given the choice between dessert or a cup of soup, nine times out of ten I'd choose the soup (yes, even if it's summertime). There are some desserts that have never been tempting to me. For the most part, I can easily resist almost anything that is chocolate. I enjoy a Twix bar or peanut butter cup from time to time, but I never understood the whole chocolate craze. Even when I do want a piece of chocolate, a mini bar like that is good enough. Oh and chocolate yogurt. I like that for some inexplicable reason, too. Like I said, nothing is absolute.Still, I figured since TITMT questions are more or less the land of the "top five or so answers that are on board" I might as well tell you about five of my favorite desserts, in no particular order, of course, just something I'd like to order, as the case may be. They may have changed over the years, but I'll answer as if I was ordering in present time, not the past. Also note that I stuck with sweet desserts however I whole heartedly acknowledge that sour and salty are equal important, just different is all.1. Italian Ice- First of all let me preface this choice with an explanation. Depending on where you live, italian ice can come in many different forms and as a result, they are often varying levels of icy goodness. Suffice it to say I've had some italian ices that are fantastic | | By: The Art of Getting By | | |
