    2008-06-30 22:36:58
For the individual living with diabetes, there is perhaps nothing more important than living a healthy lifestyle, which includes both diet and nutrition. Diabetic cooking and proper nutrition and diet can be the determining factors in the quality of life they will have. Developing healthy eating habits can not only help a diabetic control his or her weight, but it can also play an important role in helping them control their blood pressure, prevent heart disease, and maintain healthy blood-glucose levels. There are dozens of diets on the market today, and different approaches to diabetic cooking that claim to have benefits for a variety of groups. 2008-06-06 22:32:48
If you have a child that has received a diagnoses of diabetes, you may be tempted to give in to fear. It can be an overwhelming revelation to a parent. You may also be tempted to succumb to guilt. After all, if you had done something differently, this may never have happened. But you need to keep the perspective that we can't always know what actions will have what results. From what little we know, the greatest contribution you may have made to your child's diabetes, if your child has type 1 diabetes, is your set of genes. In other words, your child has diabetes because your child is your child. So you need to get beyond your guilt and fear for the sake of your child. You must be strong to make sure your child gets the best treatment each day. Finding Diabetic Care Sponsors As if life wasn't busy enough, now you also face daily treatments for your child. Improving Your Diabetic Condition With Exercise
    2008-05-21 00:46:50
by Bob HeldThe type 2 diabetic condition is brought about by a diet that is too high in carbohydrates and a lack of nutrients, which results in the insulin the body naturally produces becoming less and less effective in keeping blood sugar levels under control and in a normal range. While change in diet and proper nutritional supplementation have a dramatic effect in controlling blood sugar naturally without the need for drugs or insulin, exercise can greatly contribute to the overall control of the diabetic condition, as can be seen in the following excerpt: "While many people may begin exercising out of a sense of responsibility - the way children eat vegetables they don't like - the main reason they keep exercising is that it feels good." "Overall, people who exercise regularly are better equipped to carry on day-to-day activities as they age." "One of the great benefits is that many people find that when they exercise, they have less desire to overeat." "Even though your fat won't

Diabetic Foot Care - How to Avoid Future Problems in Diabetes
    2008-05-21 00:25:20
by Mary Rose AntonioAs more and more of the population struggles with their weight, it's not surprising that the incidence of diabetes is on the rise. With better medical testing, more and more cases of diabetes are being diagnosed. If you, or someone you love, have been diagnosed with diabetes, there are several things you should know about living with the disease. Two of the most significant side effects of diabetes are nerve damage and poor blood flow. Nerve damage results when the nerve cells' normal functioning has been disrupted by too much sugar in the blood. This changes the structure and behavior of the cells, causing them to respond poorly. Diabetics often lose sensation in their feet, making them prone to cuts and puncture wounds that they cannot feel. Left untreated, these cuts and puncture wounds can become infected and dangerous. The loss of sensation in any of the extremities is termed diabetic neuropathy. The second most significant side effect of diabetes is poor blood fl

Diabetic Medications Drugs That Are Incompatible
    2008-05-19 14:14:56
In addition to adverse consequences from the drugs themselves, many of the drug interactions and resulting bad reactions may be cloaked under a condition you already have. For example, instead of having some bizarre medical reaction, you may have a reaction that is simply a worsening of a condition you already have. For example, it will be hard for a doctor to determine if your diabetes is getting worse because of medication interactions since there are many other reasons diabetes can go out of control. Here is a list of 9of the most common drugs that may have adverse effects on diabetics:1. Beta blockers: These may reduce the release of insulin. Some examples are Lopressor, Tenormin, and Inderal.2. Minoxidil: This can raise your blood glucose levels. If you are on insulin and you forget your minoxidil dose, your blood glucose may go too low. If you are not on insulin this may make it hard for you to keep your blood glucose down through lifestyle choices.3. Thiazide diuretics: These di

Forget "controlling." You would like to lose this awful weight, get off all the meds, and get the blood sugar readings down. What you do know, is that you can lose weight. Diabetic Recipes Most Appeal to Your Tastes
    2008-04-23 13:46:57
Although many people diagnosed with diabetes initially worry about the future, there is no reason why with a properly regulated diet, they cannot enjoy a good healthy life. As with many things that are good for you in life, there is a payback and diabetes is no different, and it will be necessary to alter the foods you may be used too. To start with you will need to sort out your own diabetic diet plan using diabetic recipes that most appeal to your tastes. One of the hardest things to do will be to stick with your diabetic diet to shed those unnecessary pounds as maintaining your weight is extremely important when you're a diabetic. Diabetes Myths Must for Every Diabetic to Know
    2008-04-11 08:58:26
I and food are key components of diabetes care. Diabetics have many doubts and suspicions. It's no surprise that a lot of myths in diabetes revolve around these two topics. In this article I have tried to clear these myths so that more and more diabetics have the true knowledge to for better management.Myth No.1> No Symptoms of Diabetes Appear before Damage Has Occurred Diabetes is sometimes called "the Silent Disease," but this is not true. Diabetes actually has plenty of symptoms like increased urination, increased thirst, dry skin, fatigue, blurry vision, irritability, extreme hunger, eating without weight gain, unexpected and unusual weight loss, these symptoms aren't severe, so they often go unnoticed by parents and caretakers.Put simply, it's hard to accept the fact that there's something seriously wrong with body.Myth No.2> Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes Are the Same Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes share some common characteristics but they are hardly the same disease. They diff

Managing Diabetes with Diabetic Medical Supplies
    2008-04-02 15:13:41
Left untreated diabetes can cause life threatening complications such as cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, kidney failure, high blood pressure, and vision issues. There is currently no cure for diabetes but by using proper management techniques built on medications, diet and exercise, and blood glucose monitoring you can see why diabetic medical supplies are so important. A working and well maintained blood glucose monitor is one of the most important pieces of equipment for managing diabetes. With out one of these handy little devices it would be nearly impossible to manage the affects of diabetes. Depending on the type and severity of their disease the diabetic will check their blood glucose levels anywhere from 3 to 7 times a day. Blood glucose meters can be bought at just about any pharmacy but a better way to get one is through an online diabetic medical supply company. Most of these companies will give you one for free when you sign up to use them as your testing supply provi

Police: Diabetic Man Missing After Being Kicked Off Train
    2007-07-01 01:33:51
PHOENIX — A 65-year-old St. Louis man is missing after Amtrak personnel, mistaking his diabetic shock for drunk and disorderly behavior, kicked him off a train in the middle of a national forest, according to police in Williams, Ariz. Police said Roosevelt Sims was headed to Los Angeles but was asked to leave the train shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday at a railroad crossing five miles outside Williams. “He was let off in the middle of a national forest, which is about 800,000 acres of beautiful pine trees,” Lt. Mike Graham said. Police said there is no train station or running water at the crossing, which is about two miles from the nearest road, at an elevation of about 8,000 feet. Amtrak personnel told police dispatchers that Sims was drunk and unruly. The Sims family said Sims is diabetic and was going into shock.
