Democracy or Dictatorship? What Will King Richard II Do Next?
    2008-05-19 04:36:39
Last week Chicago repealed the two-year-old foie gras ban that made the city an "international laughingstock." What may be more embarrassing for Chicagoans than the ban itself, however, might be how the democratic process is applied in Richard M. Daley's kingdom.

    Dictatorship of the ‘Stache
    2007-10-27 19:47:29
Is there a link between dictators’ brutality and facial hair?  This is the question Rich Cohen explores in his article “Becoming Adolf” in this month’s Vanity Fair.   And come to find out, the “Hitler mustache” as we now know and love it was not always the property of the world’s most renowned murderer.  Nor was [...]

Hugo Chavez Pushes Closer to a Full Communist Dictatorship
    2007-10-25 16:05:19
Hollywood liberals often spout that George Bush a Fascist. According to the Left, George Bush is taking away our liberties by listening to phone conversations from foreign suspected terrorists, or by denying trials for militants pulled off the battlefield in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, these “Glittering Gems of Colossal Ignorance” fawn over tyrants like Hugo Chavez.Hugo Chavez, the champion of the ignorant limousine liberals, has decided to employ security forces to detain citizens without charge during political “emergencies” or major natural disasters. Yes, that is right; after taking control over virtually all media in Venezuela, now Hugo Chavez wants to throw people in jail for dissent. When a massacre takes place in Venezuela in the next decade, just wait for Hollywood to apologize on behalf of Hugo Chavez for, “Just trying to help the poor.”My predictions are not unfounded either. Communist Cuba executed or detained the greatest percentage of its population, in the shortest time, than any Country in the history of the World. So, do not think I am being hysterical. The truth is that when all media is controlled by the government, and dissent illegal, genocide or massacres always follow. So while the lunatics on the Left think George Bush is taking away their liberties, I find it ironic that they make these claims while protesting right outside George Bush’s ranch. But, then it is also ironic when Nancy Pelosi calls for protesters to be arrested when they do the same in front of her mansion. I guess making sense of the Left is my problem in the first place.CaracasUploaded by krs601Related EditorialsHugo Chavez Proposes a Constitutionally Mandated 6-hour WorkdayChavez Crushes Dissent..Liberals CheerCelebrity ExpertsCameron Diaz Learns that Communist Accessories Are Not Fashion Statements

Democracy is founded upon the conviction that the wisdom of society lies with the many and not the few. In this context, the massive centralisation of power in the PMO, under a succession of Prime Ministers of varying political hues, undermines not only the efficacy but also the very legitimacy of the Canadian state. Steve Paikin and The Agenda assembled a panel to examine what impact the minority parliament has had on the impulse to amass ever more power at the centre: Jeffrey Simpson, of the Globe and Mail; Norman Spector, Brian Mulroney's Chief of Staff; Janice MacKinnon, Roy Romanow's Minister of Finance; and myself.
