    Dining Out On A Diet
    2008-07-03 00:12:34
You don’t have to stay home to eat healthy. Most restaurants have low fat options and are quickly adding low carb menus. Before going out, call around and find a restaurant with a menu that will be a good match for your diet. Once at the restaurant, there are ways to enjoy a guilt free meal. The secret to success is in the initial ordering—you don’t want to find yourself staring at a plate of bad choices, and regretting it only after the plate is empty. Some experts suggest that once served, you should ask for a take-out container and put half of it away for the next day’s lunch or dinner. This works great if you are incredibly self-controlled. However, if the knowledge that there is more food under the lid of that Styrofoam container is too much—change the way you order.Side dishes, children’s plates, and appetizers are all great alternatives. Request that extras like gravy, butter, sauces, salad dressings, and sour cream be served on the side. Slightly dipping a fork in a c

A guide to dining in Italy
    2008-07-02 15:52:00
Italian pizza isn’t the same as we enjoy here. Pizza is considered a first course in Italy. It is almost always a 10-inch, thin crust pizza. The 10-inch pizza is meant to be a personal size pizza, but we often shared one.Our meal in Positano was our first experience with being charged for sitting at a table, the cuperto or cover charge. In Italy, there are different charges for your meal based on if you carry it out, eat it at a counter or sit at a table. The location of the table can increase the charge also as we found out later in Florence where a table overlooking the Arno River cost us four euros each, the most expensive table charge of the trip.

http://www.amishroundtables.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_26&products_id=699 I love the look of this table. The way the trestle arches out from the bottom of the table is just so cool. It’s like no other trestle table I’ve seen before, and I’ve seen quite a few. It’s so clean and simple in it’s design. Honestly I cant put my finger on one thing that I think does it for me with this table. I think it’s the table as a whole. To be honest this rare for me. Usually I like 1 particular element of the design, but this table, for me at least has the whole package. This table was designed and built by my favorite table builder. His attention to detail and ability to make new and interesting designs is like no other I’ve seen. As with all his tables the top is 1 inch thick, the skirts too. This being a trestle table he uses geared slides making it easy to open it up by yourself. If you don’t get the leaf self store option it has a locking mechanism that’s eas

Things to Consider While Looking at Dining Room Tables
    2008-03-29 07:20:05
http://www.amishroundtables.com There are several things that you should look at or at least consider when choosing a table. How are the legs or pedestal joined to the table? Is the table solid wood or particle board? Can you see a distinct line between the leaves or sides of the table? Is the table top finished underneath? How the legs or pedestal are attached tells you alot about the table. First of all if the legs are screwed in it is inevitable that they will loosen and when you try and tighten them you run the risk of stripping the original holes. Second if you need to move the table dismantling it runs an even higher risk of stripping the holes. Now if they are held in with bolts not only can you retighen them and move the table easily but bolts can only be used in a solid mounting system. Solid wood or particle board? This is pretty straight forward. Solid wood is alot stronger, more durable and lasts alot longer, potentially generations when taken care of, than part

Practical Tips for Your Dining Space
    2008-03-01 12:43:00
Dining space with rectangle table and flower decorative.- photo by decor8Dining space needs the same approach like guest space and other spaces in home. This limited space may need some addition or more attention to adapt with it needs. Here are some dining space tips which can help:- Because the guest space and dining space are in the same space, the approach for guest space is brought into the dining space, which is the use of bright wall color and white ceiling.- To differentiate between dining space and guest space, you can lay carpet or mat as an effort to make the space looks more prominent.- Dining space does not require excessive accessories. If you want to beautify the dining space, enough by placing a fresh bouquet of flower in low composition.- A narrow dining space will become narrower if a sink placed nearby. If there is still space, place the sink at a corner space of non main pathway.- A big dining table will need big space. Therefore buy small dining table equipped with

THE ART OF DINING IN THESSALONIKI, GREECE
    2007-09-30 08:14:00
Ancient Greeks believed that the arts and gourmet dining were inextricably linked, both satisfying all five senses. In modern Greece, this is still the case in the gourmet capital of the country, Thessaloniki. A number of the city’s museums and art galleries now offer connoisseurs of art and food excellent dining opportunities. An epicurean weekend in Thessaloniki starts from £42 per room per night at the three star Mandrino Hotel. The Byzantine Museum’s B Restaurant started a trend in the city and many other art establishments followed. The B Restaurant is situated within the premises of the museum and offers indoor and outdoor dining, depending on the season.

    Fresh Dining
    2007-09-12 22:13:00
Fresh Direct has started a new section called Fresh Dining. It is a collection of portable meals that can be microwaved in under 4 minutes. The newest line is Presto Italiano, created by Chef Tina Bourbeau. We tried 2 flavors, the Parmesan Meatballs with Mezzi Rigatoni and Basil and the Shrimp Fettuccine with Mint, Peas, and Berkshire Bacon.I enjoyed the meatball meal more. The meatballs were tender and the sauce had a good flavor. The Shrimp meal was way too greasy and the bacon overpowered the rest of the pasta. However, the fetuccini was cooked perfectly and the rigatoni was a bit too soft.Overall, the Presto Italiano meals were leaps and bounds better than the standard microwave dinner. They look just like real food and taste like freshly made food. The catch is that they are also leaps and bounds more expensive. At $8.99 each, the portion size is not large enough for me personally (maybe lunch but not dinner), yet the calorie and fat content is disproportionately high. They do have another line called Fresh & Simple where they are all 500 calories or less but I haven't tasted any so I don't know how good they are.

    Residual Dining
    2007-07-12 15:32:00
Earlier this week, I had the misfortune of not noticing my neighbor's truck parked opposite our driveway as I pulled out to go do the news at night. A small dent in the fender led to notes left, phone calls made, and a visit last night by my neighbor to fill out an accident report for his work place. We haven't had a lot of neighbors in our house since we moved in 2 years ago just because our house is an infinite work in progress. Although, Matt did make great progress in the living room this week. One of the things we do almost immediately after moving in was rip up carpet from the floors all through out the house. The hardwood floors underneath need to be re-finished, but still look good enough to be exposed. As our neighbor walked into our dining room to go over the paperwork, he looked over to his left at the floor near our china cabinet."And that would be where Mrs. White died," he stated as if pointing out something on a tour."Mrs. White? That must have been three owners ago

    Dining Out Review: Granville's
    2007-06-19 15:48:00
Dining out at Granville's Last night, My Husband and I joined friends at Granville's on Rutledge Avenue just outside Wagener Terrace.  While we waited at the bar and perused the wine list, the staff recommended dishes and drinks from the varried menu.  I decided on a Chinin Blanc while Whit enjoyed a Victory Golden Monkey (high gravity beer). We dined outside and other than the flies (ceiling fans are needed on the patio) the evening was quite lovely.  Both couples chose a variety of small plates, appetizers and salads to share.  The Asian braised Short Ribs were the crowd favorite and suggested by the entire staff.  Slow cooked, falling off the bone, smothered in an amazing sauce and just enough for 2.  Next time I'm sure we will split the dinner portion. The Mussels were also great.  The sauce was a red curry, coconut milk combo with just enough spice.  We also enjoyed a Maple Leaf Duck Breast over greens and still had room for des

Why There Is No Dining Room in A Bali House?
    2007-06-17 05:42:00
A house in Bali has no dining room. Why is that? Where do they eat? Those are the questions in your mind. Before we talk about it, we need to see how a Bali house is built. The house in Bali is built based on a concept of "mountain-ocean" line. The lay out of the building must follow the idea or believe that the direction toward the mountain is sacred but the direction toward the sea is less

    Fine Dining
    2007-05-23 06:04:09
My kids and I were in a different town last week and I insisted on looking around the courthouse for a diner. They didn’t understand why, since there was a McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, etc. out on the highway. I found a storefront pizza place, which was really a diner in the old sense of the word. I got a huge lasagna, a salad with about twelve ingredients, and hot garlic toast for about $5. The kids were excited to find they could order their own strange combination meals (just like home). And I explained why a locally-owned restaurant would always be a better choice, despite the wobbly furniture and jukebox that doesn’t work. I’m pretty sure they believed me, and since then we’ve tried several of my old haunts they don’t remember visiting before. They are just old enough to break out of their consistancy bubble. Life is good. How to Irritate People Ten Things Your Restaurant Will Not Tell You. Nobody ever gets Jane’s order right. I

In Thailand, the popular restaurant chain Cabbages and Condoms was founded by the kingdom’s leading philanthropist and former Minister of Health, Meechai Viravaidya, in an effort to make condoms as common - and as accepted - as cabbages. The food is consistently delicious (and ‘guaranteed not to cause pregnancy!’) and all proceeds from the restaurants are used to fund the social programs of the Population and Community Development Association (PDA), a non-profit organization founded in 1974 by Meechai himself.Choosing to eat at socially responsible restaurants such as these can make a big difference to the most vulnerable sectors of the local community.
