    Bakuteh & Chili Dipping Sauce
    2008-09-21 13:40:00
I love coming across a dish I've never heard of. More than that, I love cooking a recipe from another country and having my house come alive with aromas unfamilier and beautiful. Aromas that, for others far away, would remind one of the kitchen smells of childhood. That's the magic of cooking, the power to evoke the smells and flavours of others in your own kitchen. Flavour combinations completely foreign but delicious. At the wheel of your stove it takes you only a short time to arrive in Rhône-Alpes, Louisiana, or even Malaysia (as with this dish). When I came across the recipe for bakuteh I mistakenly thought it was a Korean dish called gamjatang (Pork Bone Soup - my mistake will be evident below). Gamjatang is one of my favourite soups of all time, along with French Onion Soup and Japanese Fish Broth. But this is not gamjatang, it is a more herbal dish, less spicy, but just as hearty. I decided that it needed to be tried. After a couple of weeks of reading though the many differen...

    Skinny Dipping
    2008-03-10 00:00:00
“Last one in the water is a rotten egg!!” As she drops her towel and exposes her leg. Running across the warm sands with nothing on but a smile, Followed closely by him on their own special isle.. He runs as quickly as his legs would take him, But had to slow down because of something a-shaking. In front of him she too slows down a bit, She’s not as supple, she has to admit. She trips on a log and quickly falls down Silently she sits there laughing on the ground. He caringly ensures that she can still stand Before falling on top of her right there in the sand Their bodies now together and filled with desire, Both wanting only to put out the fire, Her lips find his mouth and starts to please, Her tongue darting all over as if to tease. Four hands start exploring in the dark of the night, Bringing nothing to the lovers but pure delight. The pressure that was building begins to ease As she gets up in front him, and is now on her knees. Teasing, pleasing, bringi...

McDonald's Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce.
    2008-01-09 21:42:06
This recipe clones one of those sauces you get with your order of McNuggets at the world's largest hamburger outlet. Now, instead of shoving a fistful of the little green packs into your backpack, you can make up a batch of your own to use as a dip for store bought nuggets, chicken fingers, fried shrimp, and tempura. Or you can even use this as a sauce for the traditional Chinese sweet and sour dish (with pineapple, bell pepper, onion, and sautéed chicken or pork.) It's a simple recipe that requires a food processor or a blender, and the sauce will keep well for some time in the fridge.1/4 cup peach preserves1/4 cup apricot preserves2 tablespoons light corn syrup5 teaspoons white vinegar1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch1/2 teaspoon soy sauce1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard1/4 teaspoon salt1/8 teaspoon garlic powder2 tablespoons water1. Combine all ingredients except the water in a food processor or a blender and puree until the mixture is smooth.2. Pour mixture into a small saucepan over medium heat. Add water, stir, and bring mixture to a boil. Allow it to boil for five minutes, stirring often. When the sauce has thickened, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Store sauce in a covered container in the refrigerator.Makes about 3/4 cup....

    2007-05-25 14:04:00
Reis (above), mommy and grandma went to the beach yesterday at Goddard Park, where they were ambushed by the papparazzi.. Reporters took pictures, words were exchanged, no lenses were smashed.. He's also on the front page of the Providence Journal website. (Probably today only) The newspaper was kind enough to deposit a packet of copies on our doorstep this morning- hard copies of the newspaper- remember those?? Thank you Providence Journal. Very cool....
