KIM KARDASHIAN and Carmen Electra have a couple of obvious things in common. And now they have another - they’re starring in the same movie.Kim’s posted behind the scenes pics from their new film, Disaster Movie, on her website. The Playboy favourites’ questionable acting ability suggests the title may be a fairly accurate one.

    fashion disaster - match responsibly
    2008-07-06 08:57:00
Say you own a pair of acid green shoes.Hopefully you are aware that acid green is not the prettiest color in the crayon box. And also not the easiest one to wear. Now while blue and green can be worn together with no problems, I'm not sure I like turquoise blue and acid green together. Strike one.Next, the belt. It has a floral pattern going on, that clashes with the geometrical pattern of the shoes. Strike two.Lastly, the two-toned bag just adds to the mess. Strike three.I am big on respecting general color/pattern matching rules, and since it doesn't look like any pre-meditated matching has taken place here, I'm going to have to declare this a fashion disaster..

Eighth Inning Doom, Mayhem And Disaster...Astros 3 Red Sox 2
    2008-06-30 04:45:00
For the first time since May 14th, Boston manager Terry Francona summoned his lefthander Hideki Okajima with a man or men on base. A wild pitch allowed that runner, Miguel Tejada, to scamper to second base. A pinch hitter strode to the plate, none other than old friend Mark Loretta, who promptly laced a flat slider (I think) into the outfield for a base hit, scoring Tejada. That proved to be the winning run as the Houston Astros defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 3-2.Josh Beckett again pitched well enough to win, going seven innings and allowing only two runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking one. David Aardsma, who allowed the potential winning run to reach first, was lifted after recording one out and it was Okie time. You know the rest. Okie has allowed 12 of 25 inherited runners to score, and this one hurt. It moved the Red Sox to second place as they prepare for a three game series with the pesky and potent Tampa Bay Rays, who will have their three best starters

    fashion disaster - window treatment
    2008-06-26 21:35:00
I hate always being the bad guy, but I am surrounded by people that are just begging to be NY Spender's guest stars!Enter the lady with the interesting top and the rain boots in June.I understand it rained today... for like 5 minutes!During these quick summer showers, there really is no need for the rain boots, seriously. Her feet must be boiling! As for the top, believe it or not, it's a look you can easily recreate at home:1. Go to your kitchen.2. Pull a curtain panel off the window.3. Make two holes for the arms.4. Use the tie-back to secure the panel around your waist.5. (Optional) Wear your rain boots and start walking around NY... I will find you! ;)

    A Daisuke Disaster...St. Louis 9 Boston 3
    2008-06-22 04:04:00
What can I say about Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park? Maybe I'd say I'm glad I wasn't there. Nothing else comes to mind. Daisuke Matsuzaka was making his triumphant return to the rotation, and it was a complete bust, all one inning and three batters of it. In that one inning plus he allowed seven earned runs and six hits while walking three. The final score was 9-3 Cardinals, and that was because of good bullpen work (except for the second inning grand slam). Here is what his manager and the man himself said after the fiasco...“When he came out, there were not complaints about soreness, fatigue, anything, so that’s a good sign,” Boston manager Terry Francona said. “I’m hopeful we’ll just chalk it up to a bad outing.”“I just hope that I can get back to a good spot,” Matsuzaka said through a translator. “The good, I can’t really think of anything that was good. Things were mostly bad today.”Peter here, and I can't think of anything that was good, either. His ERA

    OUR PICNIC DISASTER

The sun just disappeared. Can you tell we were cold from the pictures ha ha!?Evan still wanted to go in the pool though, so he had about 15 minutes of fun in there. Then it rained! Can you believe it! We had to pack up and leave then.Poor Evan it ruined his day :(

Catherine Zeta Jones In Rebound – An Aesthetic Disaster
    2008-06-11 00:28:00
One of my favorite actresses, Catherine Zeta Jones has been looking rather unglamorous lately. For a woman whose every move exuded charisma and impeccable oomph, this new CZJ is someone I simply can’t bear to look at. Her curves defined her and most of her roles had her essaying roles about strong women with more than a hint of the exotic. She was simply perfect in The Mask of Zorro and compared to her latest rom-com The Rebound, the difference is very apparent. Catherine has had very less need to add or modify her body with plastic surgery. Though she doesn’t confirm it, cosmetic surgeons and fans are certain she has had a breast augmentation and eyelid surgery somewhere down the line. Her curvy body looked less augmented when she was sighted shooting for The Rebound and point to her well-known weight fluctuations. Speaking about her weight problems she says, “My muscles have memory from the time I danced, and it’s quick for me to get back in shape, but I’m not fana

fashion disaster - guys in pink
    2008-06-04 20:18:00
They've always said that only a few men can pull off wearing pink. Well, here are two guys that failed the test.Usually the pink item that a man tries to wear is a shirt... not the pants! And I love it how this guy paired pink pants with a baby blue shirt. Maybe he was trying to send out a message: "I'm not gay, I'm bisexual"?He's definitely confused in my book. This other guy really knows his fashion!Notice the ombre jacket? But what's going on by the ankles? He's wearing his pants rolled up, so that he can show you his pretty pink socks!Worn under a second pair of socks!Luckily for us I had my camera with me! ;)

    How to Survive A Disaster
    2008-06-03 18:55:32
By Amanda RipleyWhen a plane crashes or the earth shakes, we tend to view the survivors as the lucky ones. Had they been in the next seat or the apartment across the street, they would have perished. We marvel at the whimsy of the devastation. The recent earthquake in China and the cyclone in Burma, not to mention the battery of tornadoes and wildfires ripping through the U.S. this season, remind us that disasters are part of the human condition. We are more or less vulnerable to them, depending where we live. But survival is not just a product of luck. We can do far more than we think to improve our odds of preventing and surviving even the most horrendous of catastrophes. It's a matter of preparation--bolting down your water heater before an earthquake or actually reading the in-flight safety card before takeoff--but also of mental conditioning. Each of us has what I call a "disaster personality," a state of being that takes over in a crisis. It is at the core of who we are. The fact i

    fashion disaster - too tight
    2008-05-21 15:50:00
There are at least two points to make about this fashion disaster:1. Skin-tight clothes are not very flattering on cellulite. Some people still believe that if they wear tight clothes they will look skinnier. Unfortunately, the opposite is true.2. If you accessorize, make an effort. The red necklace doesn't match the outfit. The black scarf doesn't match the weather.I will be nice and stop here.

    Tiptoeing toward disaster
    2008-04-15 12:30:48
The City of Springfield is repaving St. James Ave. near the Rt. 291 entrances. I was headed that way yesterday when I saw the signs: Bump and Grooved Surface. I reduced my speed a little but what astounded me was the way the sports utility vehicles around me were practically tiptoeing over the bump! What the hell good is having a "rugged, adventurous, pathfinding, exploring, blah, blah, blah" vehicle when you treat it like a baby carriage carrying a newborn? And as usual, nearly every SUV held one person only-- the driver.Ethanols and other biofuels are coming under increased criticism for turning farmland into fuel land; biofuels are tagged as one of the more immediate causes of the current world food crisis. But all fuel usage has its cost. I wish there was a way gas pumps could give a precise calculation of these costs, something like: "Using this gallon of gas will remove blank number of grains of rice from a poor family's food bowl, contribute to blank number of new asthma

Ixilix Announces Support for Low-Cost Virtualized Disaster Recovery Over IP in Compliance-Based Data Center
    2008-02-26 00:32:59
PHILADELPHIA, Ixilix announced today that its SAS 70 Type II data center now offers disaster recovery using virtualized servers and data replication over IP networks. "Many companies do not use a disaster recovery site because it is too expensive to buy a second set of hardware for the DR site, hardware that will naturally sit idle most of the time," said Robert Boyer, Senior Vice President at Ixilix. "Using virtualization greatly reduces hardware costs, and using data replication over IP means simple system management and minimal impact on production systems," Boyer added.Using server virtualization means that businesses can adhere to the disaster recovery best practice of one-to-one correspondence in systems for failover, but with much less capital expense. Data Replication over IP networks means that the disaster recovery site can feasibly be almost anywhere in relation to the primary site. Synchronous data replication, usually to storage area networks (SAN), generally has a limit o

The Rising Risk of a Systemic Financial Meltdown: The Twelve Steps to Financial Disaster
    2008-02-10 10:20:00
This is the worst housing recession in US history and there is no sign it will bottom out any time soon. At this point it is clear that US home prices will fall between 20% and 30% from their bubbly peak; that would wipe out between $4 trillion and $6 trillion of household wealth. While the subprime meltdown is likely to cause about 2.2 million foreclosures, a 30% fall in home values would imply that over 10 million households would have negative equity in their homes and would have a big incentive to use "jingle mail" (i.e. default, put the home keys in an envelope and send it to their mortgage bank). Moreover, soon enough a few very large home builders will go bankrupt and join the dozens of other small ones that have already gone bankrupt thus leading to another free fall in home builders' stock prices that have irrationally rallied in the last few weeks in spite of a worsening housing recession. Losses for the financial system from the subprime disaster are now estimated to be as

    fashion disaster - miniskirt
    2008-01-08 20:59:00
So this was my view on the subway today.Painful.Why? You might ask. It looks like a nice pair of legs! And I will have to agree with you, they were nice legs. All wrapped up in nude fishnets, too.The skirt was a bit short, you can't deny that. But as they say "if you've got it, flaunt it!".But now let see if you can guess how old is the person flaunting all this skin?20? Nope.30? Nope.40? Nope.50? Nope.65? Bingo! Probably even 70!So now try to imagine her face (I wish I could post the full picture). Old, wrinkled, enormously fake lips, smeared red lipstick. Why, oh why???Why do we hold on so desperately to the time past? Why can we just age gracefully?I believe in everybody's right to wear whatever they like, but there are unwritten (and unforgiving) rules that should never be broken. In this case "no miniskirts in your 60s" (I don't care how nice your legs are)!.

Rumble: Have We Become Disaster Gypsies?
    2007-12-25 06:14:00
"I had met far too many people that were left alone, lonely, and bitter after years of wandering fieldwork. There were the drunks and misanthropes, people who were reduced to a husk of their former selves by cynicism and personal and professional estrangement ... This was not to even mention the crazies, of which there were more than a few," writes John Norris, senior political adviser to the U.N. Mission in Nepal, in his new book, "The Disaster Gypsies: Humanitarian Workers in the World's Deadliest Conflicts". (full post)It relates back to 'us': relief workers and development aid workers, and our lives: I am an aid worker. Help!, I wrote in an earlier post. Even more so when you are a woman in the relief field...Thanks to E. for the link.PS: Merry Christmas everyone!

fashion disaster - sneakers and fur
    2007-12-05 20:18:00
I love sneakers.I love high heels.I know the difference between the two.I know that I should wear sneakers when I go jogging. And that I should wear high heels to feel sexier and taller.I don't wear sneakers to the office, and I don't wear high heels to go hiking.I wear high heels to a party, and I wear sneakers to the gym.I don't wear high heels with sweats and I don't wear sneakers with fur!Repeat: I don't wear sneakers with fur!.

A Disaster of a GOP Debate - But Why?
    2007-10-22 04:15:42
There are a few reasons why I absolutely hated the Republican Presidential Debate on Sunday night. For me the biggest problem was the fact that the FOX News question askers are in such an inherently awkward position that they can’t help but to ask stupid questions that voters don’t care about. I shall [...]

Climate change disaster is upon us, warns UN
    2007-10-05 19:47:00
A record number of floods, droughts and storms around the world this year amount to a climate change "mega disaster", the United Nation's emergency relief coordinator, Sir John Holmes, has warned. Sir John, a British diplomat who is also known as the UN's under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs, said dire predictions about the impact of global warming on humanity were already coming true. "We are seeing the effects of climate change. Any year can be a freak but the pattern looks pretty clear to be honest. That's why we're trying ... to say, of course you've got to deal with mitigation of emissions, but this is here and now, this is with us already," he said.

    DIY Disaster
    2007-10-04 15:26:02
I am by no means a DIY amateur, I have managed, in the past, to carry out a few quite breathtaking pieces of home improvement. My proudest hour was, most likely, the replacement of a large TV aerial on our roof. I managed ( and this was in a foreign country) to purchase several poles, [...]

video disaster - j-lo "do it well"
    2007-09-26 16:31:00
We all know about the big fiasco that was Britney at the VMA this year. But what's J-Lo excuse in her new video "Do it well"?I'll give her that her body is better toned than Britney's and that she is dancing somewhat more in tune with the music. But that's where my empathy ends. What's with the kicks, the uppercuts and the tough girl attitude while wearing maternity dresses throughout the video? With the plot revolving around her trying to save a child from a club/dungeon filled with women-hamsters, closet-gays, and bald guys, and having NOTHING to do with the lyrics, I have to say subliminal messages these are not... And when the little boy looked so terrorized when J-Lo burst the door open with such spiky heels, I almost shed a tear, as memories of Madonna's adoption techniques kept flashing in the back of my mind.

Al Gore: More of an Environmental Disaster than a Compact Florescent Light Bulb
    2007-07-20 07:01:00
Al Gore was recently quoted saying, “There's an African proverb that says, ‘If you want to go quick, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ We have to go far quickly.” Well, by now the African people are thinking that Al Gore and his environmentalist lunatics can “Go f&%$ themselves.” It makes me sick to my stomach to think of the arrogance and ignorant condescension instilled in liberal elitists like Al Gore. In his latest scare tactic rhetoric he also spouted, “Worldwide atmospheric carbon has jumped from 280 to 383 parts per million in the last century; the polar icecaps are melting three times faster than anyone's direst prediction; China is on the verge of surpassing the United States for greenhouse gas emissions; bark beetles and wildfires are sweeping across Western forests; temperatures are climbing, sea levels rising, glaciers vanishing. By some estimates, humans must pull 30 gigatons of carbon from the atmosphere to have a shot at reversing such e
