| Survive Eating Disorders With Depression Treatment | | 2008-08-24 21:47:00 | | While the continuing efforts of health organizations and other concerned groups against the “idealized” concept of thinness are resulting in improved eating habits and self-image for a lot of people, there are still those that struggle with their weight, eating habits, and personal demons. To Eat or Not to Eat? Recent studies indicated that at least eight million Americans are suffering from eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, anorexia nervosa, and bulimia nervosa. Of this number, seven million are women from varying age ranges. According to statistics gathered by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, 20% of people who suffer from eating disorders die prematurely due to complications like suicide and heart diseases. Twenty percent may not shock people who think they are invincible " that binge-eating and purging will not harm them at all " but that percentage includes young girls and women; young lives that have been wasted without the i... | | By: Health Care Guide | | |

| Disorders of the Chest free download ebook | | 2008-07-17 23:20:51 | | Book DescriptionThe spectrum of occupational and environmental diseases has changed markedly in recent years. New industrial processes have led to the production and use of a wide range of chemicals, metals, and alloys, an increasing number of which have been reported to cause interstitial lung disease in exposed workers. Thus, while the workforce in coal mining and asbestos handling has decreased, new groups of workers are at risk of exposure to agents potentially responsible for pneumoconiosis. This well-illustrated book, written by internationally acclaimed experts, provides a comprehensive approach to modern imaging of environmental and occupational diseases of the chest. The first part of the book addresses the basic knowledge required to understand imaging in this context, while the second focuses on the imaging results achieved in a variety of specific disorders. | | Common Skin Conditions and Disorders | | 2008-07-13 09:07:19 | | Skin conditions come in many forms, all with their own unique treatment recommendations. Most frequently experienced include eczema (atopic dermatitis), psoriasis, folliculitis and, of course, breakouts. These diseases can leave you with a whole laundry list of symptoms, some more troublesome than others and can show up as an itchy condition, pigmentation disorders, extremely dry skin conditions, sores and other less than stunning appearances. Dealing with most skin conditions requires a trip to the dermatologist and, in some cases, advanced skincare. Solar Damage - Far and away the skin's biggest enemy, the sun can have a dramatic impact on all facets of the derma from wrinkles to age spots to problems with the underlying layers that support and nourish. Skin conditions resulting from sun damage often lead to advanced procedures such as laser peels, chemical procedures and photorejuvenation.Rashes - Rash is a generic term for a large number of conditions. It is known by its name because its light yellow flowers open at dusk. The oil of evening primrose is very rich in polysaturated comega-6 fatty acids, which are necessary fatty acids that body needs to complete numerous functions including insulin absorption, regulating the heart, and regulating mood. The body does not manufacture these fatty acids on its own, so they have to be taken as food or food supplements. Aside from the omega-6 fatty acids, evening primrose oil has linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid (“GLA”). Both of these acids are very important and very beneficial to general well-being. GLA accounts for most of the supplement's therapeutic effects. Eczema: One of the leading uses of evening primrose oil is to treat eczema, an allergic skin condition that may develop if the body has trouble converting fats derived from food into GLA. | | Anti-Aging: Sleep Disorders Age Us Faster and Hasten the Onset of Disease | | 2008-05-23 09:23:00 | | Nearly a decade ago, researchers at the University of Chicago discovered that not getting enough sleep does a lot more than make us feel tired the next day. Chronic lack of sleep can obstruct basic metabolism and hormone production in the same way that aging does, and has the same signs as the early stages of diabetes. If you chronically toss and turn, or wake up feeling unrested, it’s time to ask your doctor if you are suffering from one of the many treatable sleep disorders.Sleep researchers have amassed a list of sleep disorders as long as your arm, some with pretty complex names and text-book style descriptions. They encompass the gamut of mental, emotional and physical problems -- almost everything you could think of that might keep you awake tossing and turning, waking and sleeping, all night long. The bottom line is that almost all sleep disorders can be treated, and if it’s interfering with your life, it should be treated. Lousy sleep for weeks on end can make you older and... | | By: Health Care Guide | | |
| | Anxiety Disorders Explained | | 2008-05-09 21:02:33 | | Anxiety is a normal, and often useful, emotional response. If you are worrying about two or more issues for six months or more, and the worry is far disproportionate to any real threat then GAD may be indicated. You may also get physical symptoms such as muscle aches, tension, headaches, stomach aches, or insomnia. Panic Disorder Panic attacks seem to be unprovoked, overwhelming, and come out of the blue. I they continue you may begin fearing the next one. You suddenly experience an overwhelming sense of impending doom, terror, and fear. | | Trinucleotide Repeat Disorders | | 2008-04-08 21:11:00 | | Trinucleotide repeat disorders (also known as trinucleotide repeat expansion disorders, triplet repeat expansion disorders or codon reiteration disorders) are a set of genetic disorders caused by trinucleotide repeats in certain genes exceeding the normal, stable, threshold, which differs per gene. The mutation is a subset of unstable microsatellite repeats that occur throughout all genomic sequences. If the repeat is present in a healthy gene, a dynamic mutation may increase the repeat count and result in a defective gene.Trinucleotide repeat disorders are classified as a type of Non-Mendelian inheritanceTri Nucleotide RepeatSince the early 90’s, a new class of molecular disease has been characterized based upon the presence of unstable and abnormal expansions of DNA-triplets (trinucleotides). The first triplet disease to be identified was fragile X syndrome that has since been mapped to the long arm of the X chromosome. At this point, there are from 230 to 4000 CGG repeats in the g... | | By: Biosolution | | |

I thought to admit that I was being stalked was an admission of being self-centered. As if I was self-absorbed.Who would want to waste their time stalking me? It must be all in my head. It must. Just ignore it and it will go away. It didn't.It was happening.I was denying it.And, as anyone who has been stalked knows, the stalker thrives on isolating their victim. The first time I ever told anyone, outside of my parents and the police, was when I was working in victim assistance in NYC. | | A Root of Sleep Disorders | | 2007-07-07 07:38:38 | | Many people are wondering what is the exact origin of a sleep disorder that they experience at night. A lot of this comes from the subconscious mind of people when they are fully awake. Images and visions haunt them when they get to sleep and while most are not aware, these are carried on and sometimes become nightmares.
It is something that is evident that we usually store in our minds what we experience or see. Hence, such is one root of sleep disorders, something that deprives people of proper sleeping habits today.

A new study by Alyssa Bachmann, of Chappaqua Public Schools in New York finds a direct link between sleep disorder and bad grades. This holds true particularly in subjects like English and Maths (now they tell me).
“This study, which identified the relationship between the prevalence of symptoms of sleep disorders and academic performance in second and third graders, found that screening students at school with a validated school-based instrument may identify students to be referred for appropriate medical and/or behavioral treatment,” said Bachmann.

Milder mood swings such as cyclothymia may be manifested or viewed as everyday creativity rather than an illness requiring treatment. Hypomania can actually enhance artistic creativity and creative thinking/ problem-solving. This plan of care focuses on treatment of the manic phase. (Note: Bipolar II disorder is characterized by periods of depression and hypomania, but without manic episodes.) Refer to CP: Depressive Disorders for care of depressive episode. ETIOLOGICAL THEORIES Psychodynamics Psychoanalytical theory explains the cyclic behaviors of mania and depression as a response to conditional love from the primary caregiver. The child is maintained in a dependent position, and ego development is disrupted. This gives way to the development of a punitive superego (anger turned inward or depression) or a strong id (uncontrollable impulsive behavior or mania). In the psychoanalytical model, mania is viewed as the mirror image of depression, a “denial of depression.†Biological There is increasing evidence to indicate that genetics plays a strong role in the predisposition to bipolar disorder. Research suggests a combination of genes may create this predisposition. Incidence among relatives of affected individuals is higher than in the general population. Biochemically there appear to be increased levels of the biogenic amine norepinephrine in the brain, which may account for the increased activity of the manic individual. For this reason, these substances are referred to as “mind expanding.†They are highly unpredictable in the effects they may induce each time they are used, and adverse reactions, including “flashbacks,†can recur at any time, even without current use of the drug. Hallucinogens have been used as part of religious ceremonies and at social gatherings by Native Americans for more than 2000 years. Therapeutic uses for LSD have been proposed; however, more research is required. At this time, no real evidence speaks to the safety and efficacy of LSD in humans. Of the drugs that produce mood and perceptual changes varying from sensory illusions to hallucinations, the most popular and well-known are ergot and related compounds (LSD, morning glory seeds), phenyl alkylamines (mescaline, “STP,†and MDMA or “Ecstasyâ€), and indole alkaloids (DMT). A separate classification of drugs includes phencyclidine (PCP, “angel dust,†HOG) and similarly acting compounds such as ketamine (Ketalar) and the thiophene analogue of phencyclidine (TCP). Stimulants are natural and manufactured drugs that speed up the nervous system. They can be swallowed, injected, inhaled, or smoked. These substances are identified by the behavioral stimulation and psychomotor agitation that they induce. They differ widely in their molecular structures and in their mechanisms of action. The most prevalent and widely used stimulants are caffeine and nicotine. Caffeine is readily available as a common ingredient in coffee, tea, colas, and chocolate. Nicotine is a primary substance in tobacco products. These are generally accepted as a part of our culture, are not usually seen in overdose situations, and are included here for information only. Other more potent stimulants (e.g., cocaine, amphetamines, and nonamphetamine stimulants) are regulated by the Controlled Substance Act. They are available for therapeutic purposes by prescription but are also widely available on the illicit drug market. The potential for overdose and even death is high. Inhalant substances such as gasoline, glue, paint/paint thinners, spray paints, cleaning compounds, and correction fluid, to name a few, are not classified as stimulants; however, the intoxicating effects of these products and their therapeutic interventions... | | By: Nursing Care Plan | | |
| | NCP Elimination Disorders Enuresis / Encopresis | | 2007-05-14 02:41:00 | | DSM-IV 307.6 Enuresis (not due to a general medical condition) 307.7 Encopresis without constipation and overflow incontinence 787.6 Encopresis with constipation and overflow incontinence The DSM-IV defines enuresis/encopresis as repeated involuntary (or, much more rarely, intentional) voiding/passage of feces into places not appropriate for that purpose, after attaining the developmental level at which continence is expected. If continence has not been achieved, the condition can be termed “functional†or “primary.†The period of continence necessary to differentiate between primary and secondary enuresis/encopresis is now considered to be 1 year. There does seem to be a significant relationship between enuresis and encopresis, although neither condition can be the direct effect of a general medical condition (e.g., diabetes, spina bifida, seizure activity) to be included in this category. ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS Psychodynamics Numerous psychological interpretations exist speculating on the dynamics of toilet training and the significance of flushing bodily fluids down the toilet. Freudian theory places the fixation at the anal stage of development whereby the child fails to neutralize libidinal urges, and the aggressive impulses are fused with the pleasure of controlling bodily functions. Expulsion of feces or urination and untimed feces or urination or intentionally placing the feces in inappropriate places elicits hostility from parents. Loss of bodily functions leads to loss of self-respect, loss of friends, and feelings of shame and isolation. Biological Learning to control urination/defecation is a developmental task most likely achieved by age 4 or 5 and requires a mechanically effective anatomy. In some enuretic children, abnormalities in regulation of vasopressor/antidiuretic hormone (ADH) have been evidenced, with ADH regulation being linked to both the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. A theory of developmental delay suggests there is a... | | By: Nursing Care Plan | | |
| | Quality Education - Mainstreaming Autism-Spectrum Disorders (ASD) - update 10/23/06 Rough Start to new School Year | | 2006-10-23 16:55:00 | | qualityg for a while has been working with special education children in an educational school system environment. My primary focus is children with Autism-Spectrum Disorders (ASD)Both Newsweek and Time Magazines did articles this month (May 2006) on the subject. There is so much misconception about these disabilities it is frighten especially when it comes to mainstreaming these children into general education settings.I’m not going to get into the debate of whether or not they should be in a general education class because it is the law, and being a law each child should have the right to learn in the best possible environment. The biggest problem in the schools is the lack of education/understanding of these disabilities from the general education teachers, administrators, special education teachers and aides. There will be no shortage of children with this disability coming into your schools, just people who are trained. If you don't believe me check with your elementary special ... | | By: qualityg says ... | | |
