| 22 May: The International Day for Biological Diversity | | 2008-05-22 09:58:00 | | Biodiversity and Agriculture The United Nations proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. When first created by the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly in late 1993, 29 December (the date of entry into force of the Convention of Biological Diversity), was designated The International Day for Biological Diversity. In December 2000, the UN General Assembly adopted 22 May as IBD, to commemorate the adoption of the text of the Convention on 22 May 1992 by the Nairobi Final Act of the Conference for the Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention on Biological Diversity. This was partly done because it was difficult for many countries to plan and carry out suitable celebrations for the date of 29 December, given the number of holidays that coincide around that time of year. The theme for 2008 is Biodiversity and Agriculture.Help to protect the Nature and the Biological Diversity. | | Beauty in diversity - Started off from Guwahati4Shimla | | 2008-05-12 22:17:00 | | 3rd July’1994 On this day I began to travel by rail (NorthEast Express) from Kamakhya (Guwahati) with a intention to tour in Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh (Kashmir). Today train was 4 hrs. late . My traveling started at about 1.45 pm in the noon. In the midst of heavy rain I was waiting for train, got totally wetted. At last, when train arrived all doors and windows were closed. After knocking and facing some difficulties, somehow got to occupy my reserved seat. Then, I was tried to forget everything, began to taste the pleasure of journey in mind. Traveling alone is really exciting and extra ordinary experience seldom one can acquire. Here I can get enough undisturbed moment to consume through my eyes and heart, facing obstacles and resolves by own initiative. Perfection - you can acquired to some extend. Toleration would enhanced and adaptability would be more. You could embrace the unknown world without fear. Som... | | By: Travelling from Manali to Rohtangpass by sitting | | |
| | Morial encourages students to embrace diversity at St. Peter's Prep's Arrupe Lecture | | 2008-05-07 20:54:00 | | Mark Morial has seen it all. As a youngster, he grew up going to mostly white schools in New Orleans as one of the few African-Americans in the schools. He always got a strong education, since he was taught by the Jesuits. As he grew older, and got into politics, and wound up serving as mayor of New Orleans from 1994 to 2002.Last night, be brought his experiences as leader of one of the nation's most black cities to St. Peter's Prep as the keynote speaker of the 11th-annual Arrupe Lecture Series at St. Peter's Prep. And though he didn't speak with the passion you might expect from a civil rights leader, he still brought a great message of hope — of hope that future generations of Americans will embrace the diversity that will envelop the nation by 2050."Race in America is such a tough topic," he said. "It causes people to be so uncomfortable, and people are often uncomfortable talking about race, whether at the office, at school, wherever. Despite that, have we come a long way in thi... | | By: The Hudson Line Blog | | |

| | | Black History Month and "Diversity" | | 2007-02-15 01:20:00 | | When I first became a Christian over 10 years ago and was searching for a church, I noticed a lot of churches billing themselves as accepting of "diversity." However, their meaning of diversity had nothing to do with the actual meaning. "Diversity" was (and still is) a buzz word for "we accept practicing homosexuals as members."
What does this have to do with Black History Month? Truthfully, not... | | By: Carbohydrate Addict | | |
