| France: End of the Mitterand Doctrine? | | 2008-08-15 04:54:31 | | Over the last few weeks French and Italian sources have spoken of the possible end of the so-called “Mitterand doctrine.” The doctrine, created in the early 1980s by then French President François Mitterrand, granted asylum to those members of the Red Brigades and other Italian left-wing terrorist groups who renounced violence, or, as Mitterand said in a famous speech in 1985, “broke with the infernal machine” of terrorism. Despite predictable and intense criticism from Italian...(read more)... | | By: An American Warning | | |
| | Drudge Report: 47% Favor Fairness Doctrine for Radio, TV | | 2008-08-14 15:26:19 | | UPDATE: I found the link to Rasmussen.UPDATE + Commentary: So I finally read the Rasmussen report and looked around the web to see if more people were covering this story. It turns out that many people are not, which is quite scary (see summary of statistics below and in link above). The question was phrased, “Should the government require all radio and television stations to offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal political commentary?” Sounds great right? One aspect of the polling data is that when it comes to the Internet, most people are adamantly against government regulation, but 47% accept government control of radio content. The reason for this fact appears to be that individuals have control over the internet; it is the most democratic medium in history. They would much rather have the government tell others what to do, but want the government out of their lives.Nevertheless, Leftist professors and activists have convinced an enormous amount of people that since... | | By: Copious Dissent - Your Daily Dose of Liberty | | |
| | FCC Says Fairness Doctrine Could be Used to Control Web Content | | 2008-08-12 20:51:19 | | The FCC commissioner has recently come out and said that if the fairness doctrine is reinstated that it could be used to regulate web content. In other words the fairness doctrine could be used to regulate what private citizens, such as you and I, can and can’t write about every day.
There’s a huge concern among conservative [...]... | | By: America's Watchtower

| | The Castle Doctrine: Explanation, Interpretation and Opinions | | 2008-07-01 13:24:01 | | The very 1st thing I want to say is this: I am a gun owner and a gun user, I am a strong supporter of the rights OF gun owners and a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment as well as The Castle Doctrine.
It appears that some of my readers are less than knowledgeable concerning [...]... | | By: TexasFred's
| | Fairness Doctrine = Fascism: It's The Plain & Simple Truth | | 2008-06-23 10:57:00 | | There really is no other way to describe it. It can't be rationalized into anything other than an attempt by politicians to keep their actions close to the vest as it were. To silence once and for all, any dissension to their personal or lobbyists agendas. They simply do not like "We the people," a.k.a. their constituency, knowing what they are doing. And still they refuse to give this already-failed-once draconian, nightmare piece of legislation up.
Of course the UNfairness doctrine, as it should rightly be labeled, (as it is anything but fair) is aimed at only RADIO programing, just like the original back in 1929. No mention is even hinted at, at either print or visual media outlets, better known as "Lib-friendly" media outlets. And just like back then, it did NOT encourage competitive programing, but discouraged it to the utmost extreme. Radio programing simply discontinued airing anything that could be deemed controversial.
Which is exactly what the Lib's want! Since 90% of talk ... | | By: Hoopy Frood Dude

| I'm reading Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine"... | | 2008-06-13 13:00:50 | | A read I'd say that's completely on par with "The Slave Ship" and with "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee" for me in terms of the sort of impact it's having.I'm learning a lot about the roots of US foreign policy predating 9/11, Iraq and Hurricane Katrina. It's horrific. There are so many "choice" bits of information I don't know quite where to begin.Continuing to think about madness and the construction of "sanity" there was a chapter called "The Torture Lab" which shows how experiments conducted right here in kkkanada lead to the formation of techniques probably still being funded by the CIA and propagated by organizations like the School of the Amerikkkas, taught to their students who then return home to Latin Amerikkka. But the link between those horrific torture techniques and what is right now happening at Guantanimo Bay is crystal clear, too. (I just had a flash of that cutesy part in Michael Moore's "Sicko" where he takes that boatload of amerikkkan citizens over to Guantanimo Bay i... | | By: The Peace Tree | | |
| | Bin Laden Reiterates Al Qaeda Doctrine Tying Victory in Iraq to Victory Over Israel | | 2008-03-20 15:34:18 | | In my opinion, the most important point in the second tape in two days by Osama Bin Laden is his reiteration of long-held Al Qaeda doctrine that victory in Iraq is critical to the long-term success of the jihad throughout the Middle East, ending in victory over and the destruction of the State of Israel. Bin Laden issues a renewed call for jihadists to win in Iraq in order to support the Palestinian cause: "The nearest Jihad (holy war) battlefield to support our people in Palestine is the battlefield...(read more)... | | By: An American Warning | | |
| | Senate Democrats Support the Fairness Doctrine by Blocking a Crucial Amendment | | 2007-07-15 06:11:00 | | In an act of pure arrogance and stupidity, Senate Democrats on Friday blocked an amendment that would have prevented the return of the Fairness Doctrine, a federal rule that gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but allows government control of political content as well. South Dakota Sen. John Thune, Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman and other Republicans have been attempting to mirror the actions of Mike Pence (R-IN). Pence effectively thwarted the reimplementation of the Fairness Doctrine in the House of Representatives. We should all be proud to have politicians working for the American people as diligently at him. Sadly, however, when Coleman (R-Minn.), tried to bring up his amendment Friday to a defense authorization bill, Democrat Senator Carl Levin objected. More frightening, Senator Levin is not the only communist who supports the Fairness Doctrine. For example, Senator John Kerry, Senator Dick Durbin, and Dianne Feinstein supp... | | By: Copious Dissent - Your Daily Dose of Liberty | | |
| | The Unfairness Doctrine | | 2007-07-01 00:53:00 | | We've heard a lot of rumbling this week about bringing back the Fairness Doctrine and I'd like to take some time to dicuss it.First of all, the original intent of these rulings was to ensure that both sides of any controversial issue be represented in the media...in 1949. When the policy went into place, we didn't exactly have the massive amount of media coverage that we have today. This week, members of Congress began rumbling about the need for a reinstating of the Doctrine. What sense does this make? The reasoning in my eyes is simple, but on quite a few different levels. We'll run these down one step at a time. The past week, the whole country has been in an uprise over the proposed Amnesty Bill that was on the Senate floor. Now of course, conservative talk radio was up in arms over the whole. And frankly, the whole think stunk to high heaven, but it's over and done with so we'll leave that one be. At any rate, every major conservative host was urging pe... | | By: The Dissident Awakens | | |
| | The “Fairness Doctrine” Temporarily Thwarted by Mike Pence, Indiana Representative | | 2007-06-29 23:40:00 | | In an effort to combat reimplementation of the archaic “Fairness Doctrine,” Congressman Mike Pence, together with Congressman Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and RSC Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) introduced an amendment to the Financial Services Appropriations Bill (H.R. 2829) yesterday. Thankfully the Amendment passed 309-115. The next question is, “Who are the 115 Stalinists?” Here is what Mike Pence’s Amendment will do: It will prohibit funds in the Bill from being used by the Federal Communications Commission to impose the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. This is no small feat. It is a monumental victory for free speech and Pence should be commended for protecting the 1st Amendment. Moreover, the fear of the “Fairness Doctrine” is certainly warranted. It is one of the most dangerous laws ever conceived over the last hundred years. It gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but it would allow government control of politica... | | By: Copious Dissent - Your Daily Dose of Liberty | | |
