IOUSA - A Documentary Movie Examines the National Debt
    2008-08-14 07:00:33
Although this website is generally about consumer debt, a Washington Post review of a new documentary movie caught my eye recently. It did so when it said the nation’s looming economic crisis would make the Great Depression look like a market correction. I expected it to be talking about the foreclosure crisis or [...]

'Boys from Baghdad High' is a riveting HBO documentary worth sitting down to watch
    2008-08-10 16:35:00
The other night, I had little to do. So, as I do every time I'm bored, I searched my digital cable lineup for something to watch. Though it wasn't on when I'd be awake, I saw something called "The Boys from Baghdad High." It was a documentary about four teenagers — all living in the war zone of Iraq, and all of whom were entering their senior year of high school — who were given video cameras to document their school year. All four of the teens knew each other, though some were better friends with others. They weren't a traveling group of friends, so to speak. Three were Muslim and one was Christian. They Muslims were from different sects. And yet, all four went to school with each other, and without issues — hardly the way things were in their very surroundings. When all was said and done, the producers of the show took some 300 hours worth of footage and packed it into a 90-minute documentary that was some of the most riveting television that I've ever seen outside of "24" and

Ronan Gallagher's UFO documentary Loving The Alien,Ireland,Europe
    2008-07-17 17:22:19
Hi guys,Loving The Alien' is a documentary type film inspired by and shot around the 2nd Irish International UFO Conference which was held in Ireland late August 2005 at The Bush Hotel, Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim. The area around nearby Boyle in Co Roscommon has become a hotspot for alleged UFO activity and has attracted a lot of interest from the media, UFO Researchers, and ordinary people. Whether one is sceptical of such accounts or a total believer, the fact is, that these UFO sightings are relatively common.Loving the Alien is not about proving or disproving anyone's theories, or about mocking or ridiculing people or disrespecting their strongly held beliefs, it is hopefully more about being informative.

UFOs: Past, Present and Future an official, government involved documentary
    2008-07-04 06:26:28
Hi guys might be many of you dnt know that,In 1974, American documentary producer, Robert Emenegger, was asked by the Republican Party to produce a film about UFOs, using only official, government people and files. He was promised footage of an actual ‘flying saucer’ landing that had occurred at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico back in 1964. His film was made and given the title of UFOs: Past, Present and Future. Unfortunately, the promised footage was never forthcoming, but Emenegger had shot the dramatized parts of the segment beforehand (air force officers answering telephones, emergency trucks driving around, that kind of thing). These would have been used as inserts into the actual landing footage. What he was forced to do instead was use paintings of the alien craft and the meeting that occurred with its occupants.A few years later, in 1976, the documentary was re-released as UFOs: It Has Begun and again in 1979 (no doubt to cash in on the success of the Steven Spielberg

First documentary evidence Iran is into nuclear explosives, missile warhead design
    2008-05-29 10:11:00
The International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna based its new and damning findings partly on 18 intelligence documents submitted by the United States, and now accuse Tehran of willful lack of cooperation. Iran dismissed the documents as forged or fabricated.DEBKAfile reports that the documents came from materials contained in a laptop stolen from one of the heads of Iran’s nuclear program in Tehran in late 2006 by Iranian dissidents. It was passed to the CIA. Despite this evidence of an ongoing nuclear weapons program, sixteen US intelligence agencies, including the CIA, combined last year to announce this program was suspended in 2003.Even the nuclear watchdog’s director Mohammed ElBaradei, who often meets the Iranians halfway, has concluded that Iran’s nuclear activities are of “serious concern” and require “substantial explanations.” which Tehran has refused to offer. His latest report describes Iran’s installation of new IR-2 and IR-3 centrifuges for enriching urani

Planet in Peril – the documentary
    2008-05-22 10:23:58
I happened to rent this documentary, as I do not watch mainstream television and wanted to see what they had to say about climate change. I like to watch these kinds of documentaries, to get tips and hints on what I can to do in my small way to help.Well, wouldn’t you know it – I come away from this documentary with something completely different. And now I’m wondering if it’s our plant in peril or us?Mother Earth seems to be very a very resilient and resourceful plant. I find that she has had no less than 5 mass extinctions since her creation mostly due to cyclical ice ages and just her volcanic rumblings and tectonic plate moves. According to some experts in the field, what we are experiencing with sunspots and earth changes now ~ might actually be a readily predictable ice age ~ one that has repeated itself every 10,000 years on her surface.I digress though, what I wanted to talk about was plastic. You know, that stuff we use to store just about everything in including wat

Daily Show Documentary on “Fair and Balanced News Channel”
    2008-04-12 02:48:58
You may have thought over the past 7 years that the Fox News channel was an extension of the Bush administration. According to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Fox News has now been around for 12 wonderful years. On Thursday night John Oliver of The Daily Show began a two part documentary on the Fox News channel showing just how “fair and balanced” they actually have been. The parts of the piece only total about 10 minutes but it is all that is needed to show the different types of coverage that is given to two different administrations. When it came to executive privilege, journalists for Fox News wanted it limited during the Clinton administration and expanded during the Bush administration. Clinton’s matter was a personal and sexual matter, yet the journalists at Fox News felt that Clinton should have to testify by order of Republicans in congress. Bill O’Reilly for example, was outraged when Democrats wanted Bush’s advisors to testify before congr

Back then, he talked about filming a cross-country biodiesel education trip in the van. That movie - called Fields of Fuel - is now finished and will be shown at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. The world premiers screening is co-sponsored by Nova Biosource Fuels and will take place on Monday (the 21st). If you can't make it to the show, you can watch our own 2006 video interview with Tickell here. Swedish documentary follows "regular" Europeans who turn to jihad
    2007-10-17 18:51:00
Why do young men, who have grown up in the safe bosom of Scandinavia, want to sacrifice their lives for Allah? That is the question posed by a Swedish documentary that provides a glimpse into the world of young European Muslims who dedicate themselves to jihad, or holy war.Aching Heart is the story of two young Swedes with immigrant backgrounds - one from Ostermalm, one of Stockholm's poshest neighborhoods, and one from Kvanum, a tiny town in central Sweden - who left their homes in the 1990s to seek martyrdom in the wars of Chechnya and Bosnia and Herzegovina. But most of the focus of the film is on Göteborg, Sweden's second-biggest city. This is where Mirsad Bektasevic grew up. The 20-year-old Swede with Bosnian roots was given an eight-year sentence in Sarajevo this summer for planning a suicide attack there in 2005.The opening scene of Aching Heart is a video found with Bektasevic when he was arrested: Two balaclava-clad men show off a stash of weapons, including hand grenades and suicide belts. These weapons will be used against Europe, against those who have their forces in Iraq," a voice says. "These two brothers have sold their lives to please Allah. We are Muslims. The lions are coming. We are ready to attack."

A Documentary On A Stand Up Comedy God - Bill Hicks
    2007-08-30 21:02:57
Bill Hicks. The Dark Poet. The First Rock N Roll Comic. A US comedian who died aged 32 just as he was making it as the star he deserved to be. I love Hicks. I love everything he stands for - freedom of thought, rebellion and that just right combination of politics and 'dick jokes'. BBC Radio 2 put out a show last week Bill Hicks: The Dark Poet which I only just got a chance to listen to using their Listen Again service. It's the best summary and showcase of his life and material I have come across in ages as it manages to get the right balance of material and friend and family interviews. This is really recommended, Phill Jupitus is the perfect person to narrate the documentary (a stand up comedian from Britain who is braincute and a contemporary of Hicks who worked some of the same clubs) and there are some excellent snippets of Hicks's shows in this - some of which I'd never heard before and I'm a total Goatboy obsessive. It specifically focuses on Aleeia Maclit, a five-year-old blind Filipina. I admire Aleeia's spirit! Take note of some of her accomplishments:- she can operate a computer with a talking keyboard- sings in Filipino and English- and outtalks Howie! In my opinion, the post isn't just about Aleeia. It's about life and how one finds beauty in it - how one embraces it. Read more about Aleeia Maclit, our five-year-old kababayan. It's an inspiring read.
