Bloggers Get Your Own Domain Names
    2008-07-08 11:00:00
For those who have been following my blog since the beginning, you all know this started as a blogspot subdomain blog called callcenterveteran.blogspot.com. Then about January this year, I decided to get my own domain name for several important reasons.First of those reasons was my decision to continue blogging as a profession. Blogging has opened doors for me that I thought wasn't even possible. Currently as a pro blogger, I earn roughly $500 a month in between 2 blogs through advertising. I thought it was necessary for me to get my own domain name because most advertisers prefer blogs that have its own dot com domain. Secondly, it was a matter of branding myself and securing my name as an authority in my chosen niche which is as call center blogger. Hence the domain callcenterblogger.com.If you're planning to go on blogging for a longer time even if it is not as a professional earning money through it, I strongly suggest you to get your own domain name for the same reasons. Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDN)
    2008-06-12 03:10:32
In Web Dynpro ABAP it is imperative that a client browser with a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) has access to the AS-ABAP. For this reason the full URL must be assigned to a Web Dynpro ABAP application when it is called. The URL must not be shortened (for instance, no domain specification). The domain used must also satisfy the requirements of the cookie specification (see http://wp.netscape.com/newsref/std/cookie_spec.html). To check the FQDN, in the Web Dynpro explorer in the ABAP development environment (SE80), choose the relevant Web Dynpro application from the navigation tree for your Web Dynpro component/interface, and check the URL in the administration data. Check whether the path details in field URL also contain the full domain and host name. Note that neither IP addresses nor underscore characters are allowed in host names (see below). More information: SAP Note 654982. Purpose FQDNs are necessary for the following reasons: ● One domain is required with w

Domain Names and Domain Transfer - The hardships we faced.!
    2007-12-27 05:20:43
Last month I was trying to do change a blogspot site in to own-domain one. The guy who own the domain was a friend of mine and I was trying to help him out. He said he have registered the name through a local ISP. So i asked him to provide the user name and password for the control panel. Which turned out to be one with an Indian registrar. I tried to login and was amazed to find that there is'nt much option in the control panel. In the MX data there is the server address of the ISP typed in. and there is no Cname records. I asked the customer support of the registrar and they said they have juz provided the domain name.. and not controlling the DNS records. I tried to contact the ISp and they said that they don't have anything with them.At this point I used my paypal account and transfered the domain name to another Registrar.the steps involved was.1. Payment of cash(I payed it through paypal)2. Authorisation mail is sent to the admin of the account( Unfortunately in our case it was the ISP's email id)3. Once the admin confirmed the same, the authorisation mail is sent to the losing registrar to transfer the account.(this is an automatic process and may take around 10-15 days)4. Once the transfer is completed, we got a mail and that said we can modify the details in the domain. All together these steps took around a couple of weeks time.Once we got a confirmation mail, (this transfer includes an extension of an years service on the domain) I brought a DNS control on the domain. and used this control to configure the data.I added two cname entries pointing to ghs.google.com one is without any value and te other is with www.Then I took blogger.com and took the publishing option. In the publishing option i clicked on custom domain and then went to advanced settings. There, I typed in the name of the website. I saved the same and ask blogger to redirect the www. website name also in to that particular domain and i clicked on view blog.. andNothing happened. I have a

    Domain Names
    2007-12-15 06:26:00
'What's in a name? That which we call a roseBy any other name would smell as sweet.' -- Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)What’s in a name? Well, pretty much everything. An identity is directly connected to a name. Shakespeare was being philosophical when he wrote the famous dialog quoted above. You may indeed call a rose a skunk and it would still smell as sweet. However, that would create confusion, not to mention that a lot of people would disagree with you. When it comes to naming a website or blog, the name is a primary determining factor of the site’s potential popularity or success. For instance, if you have a website or blog that focuses on children's toys, you obviously should not name it as adult-toys.com. Your site has a greater chance of being stumbled upon by search engine users if it is appropriately named.I had committed this mistake of naming some of my blogsites with very long and non-descriptive names. Unfortunately, it would not be very practical to change those names now that I already have done some optimization. On the other hand, if your Blogger/Blogspot blogsite is still new and you want to change its name or register a domain, you may simply go to the Settings-Publishing tab of your blog account and change the name or publishing address of your blog as shown in the illustration below. You do not need to manually transfer all the contents of your blog to a new address. The publishing address of your blog would simply be changed. On the other hand, if you want to register or buy your own domain, you may click the appropriate option. Buying a unique domain for your blog would make it more optimized and professional. Registering your Blogger/Blogspot blog as a domain will remove the "blogspot" extension. Domain registration can be as low as $10 per year!

All you wish you did not have to know about Domain Names
    2007-10-14 01:49:00
If you are thinking of moving from a web based blog hosting service, such as blogspot or Wordpress, to your own hosting service then you will need a domain name, which is your unique address on the internet. When I move this blog over my domain name will be sueblimely.com.A domain name is made up of two parts, the unique name you choose, made up of letters and or numbers (in my case sueblimely) and a top level domain (TLD) - eg com, net, au, ca. A complete list of TLD's can be found on Wikipedia. (As from next year you will be able to get a .me TLD when Montenegro's domain name becomes available - imagine the rush to get that suffix e.g. buy.me, love.me, bookmark.me...)Think carefully about your domain name considering these points: If your hosted blog name is already well known then think about reusing this. If you want a new name, try to choose one that is easy to remember and easy to spell. Shorter names are generally better and less prone to spelling errors. Remember that your domain name and blog title do not need to be the same so a long title does not have to translate into a long domain name. It is good to have a name that descriptive and relevant to your blog topic, using keywords that will bring in readers from search engines. You can be descriptive and creative at the same time e.g. treehugger.com You may wish to create an identity for yourself at the same time e.g. joelonsoftware.com (this is what I am aiming to do because of my other web activities which are distinct from blogging) If you already have a well known identity/nickname consider using this e.g.: snoskred.org.Many blogs do not have a particular topic. You can be creative in this case but try to choose a memorable name. All of this comes with the proviso that the name you choose is actually available. You may not be able to buy your chosen name and a rethink or compromise may have to be settled on. There are many other domain naming tools available online although I have not been too impressed by them. I found the following of the most use:Instant Domain Checker - nice and quick Create a list of words associated with your site and check them on Google Trends gives you an idea of how much search traffic words get:bustaname.com - allows instant live searching and helps you find domains sounding similar to the one of your choice.namedroppers.com - perform searches for domain names using multiple keywordsMakeWords.com - search via keyword and get alternatives to the resultant names. JustDropped.com - lets you search for domain names that have recently expired. If you need a little inspiration the weblog name generator may help. If not you can get a giggle from some of the names it comes up with. (e.g. bug-eyed dreams, happy noodle) Once your domain name is decided on and you are sure it is available, you need to actually buy the name. Most hosting companies provide domain registration services but, although buying this way is the simplest option, it may not be the cheapest option. You can find reviews of domain registrars on NamePros.com. Namecheap and Dynadot seem to have good reputations. I have used WebPageDomainNames.com, which is associated with GoDaddy, for a few years now and have had no problems. I have not had to test out their customer support so cannot comment on how efficient this is. Domain-Names alexa

Free domain names for blogs..and not only
    2007-09-26 16:53:45
Free domains...everyone wants a free domain for their websites or blogs, but most know that you can't get a free TLD from nowhere ( TLD - Top Level Domain ). So, if you can't get a free TLD, the chance is that you'll look for a free, simple domain ( which is not a TLD ), to hide your long and even ugly URL ( such as http://www.whateverfreesite.com/user/johndoe/index.html ). The problem is that some free domain names are supported by ads and this may make you're site or blog look even more unprofessional than it already is considered. Now, let's clear some things up: when I visit an website, I really don't care if it is hosted free and has a free domain name, or it is a professionally built one, with a TLD. Why? Because even a free hosted site can offer you very interesting information and can have a nice design, too. So, I make no discrimination about this kind of sites. As I said, if it has good, quality content and a nice design, then it worth paying a visit. On the other hand, ad-supported domains can annoy visitors, because some of it have pop-ups or pop-unders, and we all know how annoying this things are. No one says not to make money even from free domains, but at least a hosting company or a free domain names website should choose some non-obtrusive ways of advertising to place on their domain names. What domain name should you use, that has no advertising to annoy your visitors? The answer is www.co.cc. The guys from CO dot CC offer free domain names ( like myblog.co.cc ) that have no annoying or visible advertisements and are easy to remember. I'm currently using a CO.CC domain name and I'm satisfied with it. Here's the address of my blog, with the CO.CC ending: http://www.myppcadvertising.co.cc. Looks better than http://myppcadvertising.blogspot.com, right? If you'd like to give your blog or website a more shorter domain name, then try www.co.cc. The service is free and I believe that you'll be satisfied with it :)

    History of Domain Names
    2007-07-27 00:26:00
By: Nicholas LaPolla What is a domain name? A domain name is a unique name, kind of like an e-mail address is unique, which is registered in a database called WHOIS through an organization called Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI). The domain name corresponds to a unique set of numbers called an IP (Internet Protocol) address. The reason we use domain names instead of IP addresses is that they are closer to our language. It would be difficult to market a site like this: "Go to 64.233.167.99 or 216.109.112.135 to search the internet!" A much easier way to do this is to say "Go to www.Google.com or www.yahoo.com to search the internet!" (Both Google and Yahoo are trade marked by Google, Inc., and Yahoo, Inc., respectively).A domain name points to a computer called a "name server". The name server knows that your domain name corresponds to your web hosting server's IP address and it routes the person who typed in your domain name to your web hosting server - to your web site. That is how peop

    Too many domain names...

I have 3 domain names and I can hardly keep up with updating them all. I might cancel my other blog that has no domain name for now and re-apply later when I am finished with connecting it to a domain name. I want all my blogs to use a domain name, with the exception of my journal that I have no way to use a domain name. Oh, well, at least my journal has a page rank of 3, and that it still the winner because it gets the big opps I need. I just wish my other blogs would have the page ranks I want. When can they possibly have any? I will give it time and work on putting my blogs out in the open for the search engine to find, and rank them.
